Sorry I didn't understand the logistics of your problem. Since you already own the parts located here in the US, my question then would be why not have the bottom sent to the person holding your complete trunk and offer to pay them a few extra bucks to swap the bottoms out, toss the bad one in the dumpster, and pack it for shipping? You could arrange the shipping, and pickup from your end..... That would probably be your best option. If the seller doesn't want to get involved, the extra shipping charges getting the parts to someone, who will, isn't going to be cheap. You have my sympathies, but you should have looked into any shipping problems prior to buying the parts. -

I use regualar carb cleaner, and then follow up with SeaFoam 'Deep Creep' on all the moving parts and the choke pistons. The whole process will make things work again. The carb cleaner I use is also flamable. Works great to locate any vacuum leaks in the intake..... Save the Sea Foam for the inside of the carbs..... -
It seems like this is a common problem on the Second Gens. Something that may work is to do a little preventative maintenence on all those tabs before they break. I used the product pictured below to lay fiberglass mat over a very large hole in the 91's trunk, and was amazed at how good the stuff acted on the ABS. It's a thicker viscosity then the stuff I usually use to 'weld' spider cracks that develope with age. It does a great job of getting the mat to set up. Maybe glass matt on the tabs would keep things from breaking, or if they have broke to repair the tab... The stuff is available thru TAP Plastics here on the west coast.

If the RSV mounting rack fits on the TD without any mods (something you'd have to do yourself anyway), swaping out trunk parts isn't that big of a deal. I'm sure someone on the east coast of the US or Canada could help you out, but why not do it yourself??? -
can anyone help on turn signal issue?

Terry, you may want to take this question to the 2ndGen Tech talk. We have enough trouble just figuring out these 1st Gens..... -
I've got it and don't even own a Zumo....... Thanks.

Lowell, The fairings are all interchangeble, but the dash panals are different between the 83-85 and the 86-93. When you talk to the wrecking yard make sure that all the pieces you're able to find are from the 86 up.... If you're in no rush, blue on blue upper fairings show up on Ebay once in a while, but if you're going to repaint, anything will do...... -
Late spring would be a great time to do the high dessert. Depending on the weather some of the mountain passes over the Sierras (I-80) could have snow. Just be patient and pick your weather window....

It's getting to be a common practice for sellers to start an auction at $.99 and pad the hell out of their shipping charges to where they are more than the item is worth. The one that really gets me is the seller charging 20 bucks via UPS for something that can be mailed USPS priority flat rate for $8.95. They do this to get away from paying any Ebay end-user fees. I figure it's coming out of my pocket in the long run, so if I see something like that happening I'll report them to Ebay. There's a page for doing that. I know it sounds like I'm a PITA but if you spent as much money as I do for shipping every year you'd be a bit touchy too....

Riding styles dictate the milage. Worn out is worn out no matter how you get there. Even radials won't last that long during the burn out competition at Sturges....

I think it looks worse that it really is. Flush the intire area with lots of a baking soda (arm&hammer) water mix to remove all the acid corrosion. Don't be bashfull. Once dry, paint the pitted areas... or everything you can find....with Krylon Semi-Flat Black. PM me your address and I'll send you another battery bracket..... How's the battery box? Another reason to change to a AGM sealed battery..... With an AGM you don't need the drain hose.

Time of the year may dictate which route would be best Pat. When do you plan on doing it?? Also is this a 'ride-about', or do you have a reason for going?? In the back on my mind I've been thinking about the possibility of doing a two week ride-about up into Canada via Seattle, over to Lethbridge, south thru Glacier to Kalispell MT., in mid-September, and end up in Reno for Street Viabrations. The weather will have a lot to do with whether I drop down into Nevada or go west up north... There's lots of things to do and see no matter which way you go....

What's even more amazing is that it took 5 bidders to get it to go that high..... and it was another one of those hidden bidder deals. I wonder how any of them were legit...??

Carefull JB. I have a wall in the garage piled high with office storage boxes full of 1stGen parts because I thought I'd do that a couple of years ago. One of these days when I get the 87 and 93 back on the road I'll pro'bly have one heck of a blow out with what's left. The best things I've picked up off Ebay are 3 to 4 boxes of old Venture...may they rest in peace... nuts, bolts, and screws. $.35 to $1.00 for a new metric nuts or bolts at ACE Hardware get's old quick. Eck has been accepting 1st and 2nd parts donations from members that are passed on free for the asking, just pick up the shipping costs, and the classified section has a 'Wanted' section that makes a pretty good needs list. -
Geeze, that's terrible. I've never heard of a Venom failing so soon. I think you need to take this to AVON, and see about getting the rest of your pro-rated warantee....

Engine on Ebay
Condor replied to Freebird's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I just received a reply from the seller asking him what year his take out 'V-Max' motor is. It ain't a V-Max. It really frosts me every time a seller mentions that his Venture motor is 'like a v-max', or 'is the same as a v-max', or... is a v-max because it came out of a Venture. Grrr!! Oh well....time for dinner. Good luck... -

Condor replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I've got an extra sidestand or two floating around in the garage. If it comes to it I can cut one up and reposition the foot peg... I just thought more chrome would look better if it'd work. I don't know why Yamaha never put out a chrome stand??? -

Interesting Rick. I've gotta look into this further and see how it would extend the stand in the right direction. Thanks for the heads up.... -

Yeah, I've been eyeballing a second and it seems?? that the yoke is straight to the shaft, just like a 1st. The angle may be created by the frame attachment point. The stand foot pin on the '91 hits the bottom of the floor board and has been shortened....I assume by the PO because the thing was too long to allow the kickstand to come up all the way and the switch to make proper contact. The end result is, it's a PITA getting a toe hold on the stand to get it down. I usually have to reach down with my hand and flick it out to use it. Ergo, I figured if I'm going to have to rework the thing I might as well mess with a chrome 2ndGen sidestand?? -

Condor replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Nah.... Just thinking about adding more chrome.... I'll have to admit there are a few things on a 2ndGen that are nice improvements over the 1st's..... But very few..... -
When you get them take some clear spray paint and coat the welds a couple of times. That should keep them from rusting.
