  1. Squeeze, just a guess here, but it probably revolves around a manufacturing system, and parts people needing to identify a particular part without having to look up the number for each one they need. Much easier to learn memorize one number rather than a different number for every part. Also much easier to maintain inventory.????
  2. Of course they're different. The first three digits designate which bike they fit, the second set of 5 is the valve cover gasket part number... the same throughout. Different prices for each. I guess I'm a little dense, but what are you making an example of??? In one of your previous posts you stated that the W0041 was not the part number, and I still stand by my statement that it is..... In your above example the 11193 is the valve cover gasket part nember, just like the W0041 is the rebuild kit number.
  3. I fianlly found the info and according to what Squeeze posted the W0042 IS the part number. On the Parts Number the first three Digits indicate the Bike which used the Part first Time. next 5 Numbers are the Parts-No itself. Next two Digits indicate superceeded or modified Parts. Last two Digits ... don't know. This applies to Parts. Nuts, Bolts, Seals are specified different.
  4. I've noticed that. I needed an oil seal for the clutch push rod and looked it up in my price list. Got two hits. One for $3.00 something, and the other for 7.50 and change. Same exact same part number. When I ordered it from the local Yamaha dealer they charged me the lower price, and didn't memtion the huigher listing. So.... just becasue you run into two different pricess for the same part number doesn't neccessarly mean that it's a different part.....
  5. Dan, when it opens click on the view tab at the top and it should give you a rotate feature. It does make things easier....
  6. It's still a little fuzzy, but it's starting to come back to me. The 26H is the code they use to designate the first model the part apeared on. The 26H code is used for the XVZ1200. The difference in pricing between the 83-85 front caliper rebuild kits and the 86-93 front rebuilds is that the later model uses four seals instead of the two on the early units. The rear master cylindar rebuild kits are the same throughout the VR run from 83-93. They never changed the rear master.
  7. I can't be 100% sure, but I think our windshields are made out of plexiglass. Much tougher, more scratch resistence, and will not yellow over time. So.... Pledge isn't going to effect it like it would Lexan.
  8. So much for Global warming.... Promises...promises.....
  9. I went out and mowed the back yard grass yesterday.......
  10. I just looked up the part numbers for the rebuild kits and the 83 took 23LW0041-00-00 and the 91 took 4H7-W0041-50-00. Looks to be the same rebuild kits, but I don't know for sure because I can't locate the thread explaining how to read a part number. Thought I had saved it...?? Old age I guess...
  11. I didn't know there was a difference between the 83-85 and 86-93 masters. Learn something new everyday.... I thought that becasue the pistons on the 86-93 front calipers were smaller, that the masters were the same, and that the better braking came from more pad contact with the rotor. Now I've gotta go figure out which spares I have??? I wonder if the braking could be improved by putting 86-93 masters on a 83-85??
  12. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/69/cat/7 Here's the listing for the stand with pics.
  13. Bob, I think Cecil is refering to the later 1stGen 100mm calipers like you're planning to do, and I don't think he'll have any problem using the 85 masters with the 86-93 calipers.....
  14. After 36years it might be full of gremlins??? I spray mine with carb cleaner every once in a while to wash those little suckers out.
  15. Geeze!! Got your Guardian Bell installed???
  16. I think??...but not positive.. that the ME's may have the gold Indian Head on the side of the tank, and the shift linkage is a golden arrow. I noticed in one of your pics the gold head, but couldn't get a good look at the shifter linkage. I've seen both motors (OEM and S&S) for sale, and I think it may have been an option??. Good lookin' bike in those picks except that last one... I think I've seen it before. Street Vibes...maybe??
  17. For the Whisler GPS I just made one out of that cardboard backing they use on memo pads. Cut it to size and sprayed it with black Plasti-Dip. Attached it with velcro. I'd take a pic.... but I can't find it... It's around here somewhere..just saw it a couple of days ago....???
  18. Geeze the page didn't even mention F11. What's with that....????
  19. Yes they will. '86 and up had the four piston calipers with the wider 100mm bolt pattern.
  20. Thanks for the link Tom. I may have to try one of those. Right now I'm using a Linksys antennaless router, and the signal get's a little weak from the remote office. If I remember it ran about $30 bucks at Sam's Club. I guess you get what you pay for... The only time I can pick up an 'excellent' connection is when I'm sitting on top of it. Although 'very good' seems to be working for the most part out here. I'd just like a better signal.
  21. Very pretty piece of "s***t...."
  22. If memory serves me correctly the bike was dismantled by a Reno MC Boneyard and some of the parts ended up on Verminelli's Yellow VR up in Carson City. So it's serving a purpose and still lives on.... http://www.pashnit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13694
  23. Kit, if you ever have a chance to pick up this book I'd highly recommend it. It deals with marine application, but it can be applied to just about any 12volt system. I bought one 20 years ago and have wired and rewired more big boats than I care to admit, and probably would have spent most of that time screwing things up if I hadn't read it. i have several others but nothing holds a candle to this one. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/516XCJXBDGL._SS500_.jpg
  24. That smell might have been Butyl cleaner. It's the same stuff in 409 and a bunch of others. Just add a color...orange, purple, green... and pick a name. They all work. You can mix concentrate 1oz.:128oz.(1 gal.) as in 409, or stronger. It's all chemical warfare..... and a money making product. I used to buy the concentrate for about $30 bucks a gal. That's 512 qts. of 409 @ what?? 4-5 bucks a bottle retail. You do the math.
