Some criminals really do like making our job easy. We once had a guy rob what he thought was a Brinks type truck making a run into a Bowl America. Turns out the truck was a delivery truck for uniforms. Cleaning company. The guy also weighed about 350 lbs making this foot chase by one of our SWAT guys the shortest/easiest foot chase in LE history. Or the time I was called to run a track from a car where a carjacker bailed from. I walked to the car with the dog and found the suspects drivers license laying on the floor board. We just drove to his house and arrested him.

Something else to add. I found an e-mail in my junk folder the other day. I almost deleted it but something caught my eye in the subject line. It was an update on an upcoming Va. M&E. We really should put in the subject line something like VR.ORG or something similar so others don't delete anything by mistake from someone on this site. Just a thought.

I'm in Prince William County (Manassas) so I'm not too far from you. I like to head out thru Fauquier County and ride in the mts. Keep me in mind.

Why is it that so many RSV's have the whine but many don't? I've never once heard the whine with my 04 but I see it talked about here all the time. Inquiring minds need to know. -
At least they are riding.

Attention Ontario Drivers and the rest of you
Bigfoot replied to E-Fishin-C's topic in Watering Hole
From the laws I've seen you only have to move over if you can safely do so. Regarding your last sentence. If the driver slows down but decides to not move over should this remove any responsibility this driver has if something were to happen to the officer or vehicle occupants? If you can move over than you should move over. Slowing down is one thing, moving over is another. If you've never stood on the side of the road with cars going by at mach 1 you don't know what you're missing. -

Many states in the US are or have passed similar laws. I am one who is glad the law is finally here. Although my state still doesn't have it. I've seen or read about too many officers being killed or injured by motorists who won't move over. I had a good friend who had his left side handgun hit by the mirror of a van on a 6 lane highway. The van had plenty of room to move over but didn't. On interstates some, not all, truckers like to play games by seeing how close they can drive by an officer standing on the side of the road with a motorist. If they blow his hat off I understand they get some kind of thrill out of it. Whenever I pull behind a stranded motorist on the side of the road the first thing I ask is can you start your car and drive way off the side of the highway if possible. Considering that officers are killed and injured every year working accidents, traffic stops or assisting stranded motorists I believe this is a good law. Sorry you got the ticket but you should have moved over just as a courtesy. If it's a new law you might have some good luck by going to court and pleading your case. I found this on the next topic when I finished typing here. It's applicable. From one of AMA publications. If you think distracted drivers are potentially dangerous, you're right. What's really scary is how many drivers are multi-tasking out there on the road. According to a recent survey from the industry group Network of Employers for Traffic Safety: 10% of drivers have done work-related tasks while driving, either by reviewing notes, talking on the phone or using a computer. 18% have applied makeup while driving. 32% of drivers admit to having read while driving. 39% have tended to children while driving. 51% say they use a cellphone while driving. 70% admit to eating while driving. -

I know this won't be popular but I've worked in the system for nearly 29 years. The judges hands are tied in cases such as this and has to hand down a fine commiserate to the charge. They don't like it anymore than we do. But it's the prosecutors who decide the charges and sometimes they can do nothing more than a traffic ticket. Now when a judge hands down a fine in a case where someone is hurt or killed they know that doesn't help the families of the victim at all. The judges know that the only recourse is for the family to take the person to civil court. This doesn't always work if the person has nothing to give but the judges can do nothing about it. As bad as it seems imagine a family member of yours, say an 18 year old daughter who'se never been in trouble a single day in her life. She is out shopping one day and due to the bright sun doesn't see a MC coming her way and she pulls out causing the MC to strike her. This person is killed or hurt bad. Can you imagine seeing someone calling for her to be tried for manslaughter? I can't. There are plenty of people who deserve the charge of involuntary manslaughter but some are just plain terrible accidents. Just imagine one of your family members making a mistake one day and you having to wonder why they have to go to prison for an honest mistake. It's not always a black and white situation.

Okay. How did you embed this from youtube? I thought it was set up so you can't. I've tried and can't do it.

And yes, I do carry when I ride. I don't wear it on my side as I don't want the extra damage to my body if I go down. I do want it close by though if I need it.
-
And this Sheriff meant it also. It's a little old but I can recall this happening. We were at a national K9 certification trial and all was stopped to announce these deaths.

I'm 6'5 with a lot of my height in my upper body. The Venture fits me nicely. I did install a backrest (Utopia) but had to take it off right away. It pushed me forward just enough and my knees were hitting the end of the bars as I was turning.

I went to new enough and right to the big sizes. I could fine no size 15's in any of the listed boots. Either they are gone or they don't stock them anymore.
-
Ditto.

I believe SIDI was the vendor I spoke to at the DC bike show a few weeks ago. I wear either a 14 EEEE or 15 EEEE depending on the manufacturer for my work boots. I've yet to find a MC boot supplier that even comes close to this.
-
Hmmm. I could handle a ride up to Ontario. Would be a sweet ride.

it must be nice to be able to buy MC boots. No one makes them for truly big feet. I had one company tell me it cost $50.000 for each size they go up beyond what they currently make. Said there would be no profit.
