Let's talk speakers again
Bigfoot replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hopefully Don won't mind if I thread jack here a little. I'm also interested in changing out my speakers but I also would like to get rid of the stock AM/FM and wondered what is available out here for the 04 RSV. Any suggestions. Cost is a factor. Thanks -
My grown kids are home for a few days and one is shopping and the other is in DC seeing the National Aquarium with his girlfriend. And the wife and I are leaving in 10 minutes to go for a ride.

As a cop I am embarrassed to see any officer write 2 over. I have to say that is chicken**** and wrong. We used to start at 11 over and most probably start at 15 over now.

Like I said above "I realize that there are some areas around the country, IE-some small towns, where ticket writing can contribute to their revenue but in most places this is simply not true." But do you know for a fact the town gets the revenue or does it go into a fund such as education? I know there are small towns that are speed traps, hell, we even have one in my county and they have a terrible reputation.

I wish I benefited from it. Hell, I might actually write a ticket once in a while if that were the case.

Not to start an argument but this revenue argument is not justified. I realize that there are some areas around the country, IE-some small towns, where ticket writing can contribute to their revenue but in most places this is simply not true. Most states have it set up where monies from tickets go towards some type of education/general fund. As a nearly 30 year LEO me or my job have never benefited from ticket revenue and neither do the vast majority of police departments.

I've done the Seneca Rocks route a couple of times. I'd like to get some routes from some of you in WV. I usually enter WV via RT. 55. I can also enter on RT. 50 easy enough. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I'm fairly certain this is all a big joke.

I finally got to ride the famous Smoke Hole Road just outside Petersburg, WV yesterday and all I have to say is WOW! If you ever have a chance to ride this area make sure to visit this stretch of road. I'd say this is a great road at anytime but right now with the foilage it can't be beat. I will definitely be back there again.

Sorry to hear this. I'm planning an all day Friday ride into the Mts of Va and WVA. Supposed to be 66 and sunny.
-
Can't speak for every state but in Va. you could be cited for disregard a highway sign. (Posted speed limit) If he can testify that he was doing the speed limit and has an updated calibration then that's all it takes if you caught up to him quickly and especially if you overtake him. You said in your post "I'm rushing through Maine at a decent pace late one night / early morning when all of a sudden over the rise I come up onto a brown car in the fast lane, and he ain't going fast" So maybe he was doing the speed limit and you were indeed speeding. Sometimes we tend to give somewhat legal advice on here that may get someone into a little bit of trouble. Use caution regarding this. In the future just be careful who you are passing. Also, I presume you know your own speedometer could be off by as much as 5 mph or more?

I also have the Utopia. If you are tall then you may have issues as I do. I'm 6'5 and I couldn't use the backrest until I installed some risers as the end of the handlebars hit my knees on a turn and almost caused a wreck. With the risers this is not an issue now but the backrest is keeping me pushed forward a little too much. I'm constantly pushing back on the backrest but there is no way you will bend this bar. I need to find someone who can heat it up and bend it back an inch or so then reinstall it.

Thanks RR, The last dealer I dealt with said that Aria did make anything larger than an XXL. Guess I'd better look into myself.
-
Have you tried this? I wasn't sure if the padding can take the sanding without ruining it.
-
I'll try some of the suggestions here. I rode today and after a few hours I had to return home. The pain to the front of my head above the forehead became too unbearable.

Okay now. I have a fat head. Now I'm 6'5 and 275 so it fits me fine but it makes buying a helmet very hard. I have a full face HJC XXXL. It's the 2nd one and the 2nd fits no better than the 1st. The local dealer says this is the biggest helmet out here except for some really cheap $69 helmet that looks like crap in the pics. It comes in at either 4 or 5 X. Does anyone have this issue or know of any larger helmets on the market?

Thanks Red and Feets. Will look at both.

Thanks. I'll look at them but I'm leary of buying boots I can't try on. The sizes seem to vary widely depending on manufacturer. I can wear 14's and 15's depending on which brand.
-
The boots in mags like Galls are the boots we wear at my job and I can't wear them. I love the Rocky boot and back in the 80's I could wear them but once my foot expanded to the 14 EEEE then they are no longer an option. But you're right about the work boots. Great quality and free. Once I retire then I'll probably keep buying them.

You got it.
