Intermittent charging?
Dano replied to BJB's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You will need a digital voltmeter to read DC volts. Measure at the battery terminals at idle then above 2500 rpms. Stators will not have full output below that. Check the connector for the regulator/rectifier (4 or 5 wire/ 6 pin connector under left side cover). Possible corrosion in there. Check and clean battery terminals. Check all fuses in the block for looseness. In the service manual is the procedure for checking the reg/rectifier. Good luck, Dan- 14 replies

To put it into one word------YES! Now, for your second lesson- do this starting out from a dead stop with about a quarter mile clearance ahead of you, run it hard up through third gear. Then check rearview mirror to see the grin permanently plastered on your face!! Dan

New 86 VR idle problems, CLASS question
Dano replied to WiVR's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Sounds like a manual air system and a disconnected CLASS. Pull the trunk off and the black panel under that, and see if the compressor is even in there. Dan -

need mechanic in SE Ohio
Dano replied to jonn1963's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Have you pulled the side covers off the carbs and checked the diaphragms? Sounds like that may be a majority of your problem. You can download a service manual here, just go under "Forums" then 1st gen technical library. Hope you got DSL or cable internet. It's a pretty big file. You've got some guys over in WVa that might be close to you. There's a thread on here about ordering new diaphragms that would be of benefit to you. Good luck and ask more questions and we can help you do this yourself! Dan PS Welcome to the site! -
I read-> Most of my questionable stuff we just email back and forth---- right guys (and gals!)

If you consider SE Indy right off of 74 close, come on up this weekend and I'll do it for you! Otherwise, give Rick at Buckeye Performance a call (N side of Cinci), I'm sure he'll help you out! Dan

Go to Lowes and pick up a thin-walled Kobalt 12 point 18mm deep well socket. Works perfect to get down in the plug well. Why do you have the choke (enrichment valves) full on at start-up? Didn't your mama tell you if something keeps messing up, don't do it that way anymore?! Mine starts cold without the choke, I let it run for 30 seconds then slowly increase it to first stop. Let it warm up like that for a minute and she's ready to ride. Dan -
And whens the last time you believed MiCarl?!?!?!?!?

If he goes to Pa, might as well come thru here! Heck, he might even show Sweetnothins how to get home to her hubby!

Glad to see the case is moving along now, albeit not exactly as you would have liked. Perhaps as has been said earlier, he will get his justice due. But we all know that he will get his just due when he meets his maker. THAT will be the Final Answer! You and Dale keep your collective chins up and we wait for good news at MD! Dan

Finally found oil leak!
Dano replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Upon looking at it furthur, when cleaning up the boots and thread holes, there was a gray sealant just inside the holes. I originally took these off last year during the rebuild. Book didn't say anything about sealant around these holes. It's got sealant now! -
Finally got the time last nite to tear the carbs back off to find this pesky harley-esque oil leak! Somewhere off the #2 cylinder. Replaced crush washers for the oil delivery pipe to no avail, figured I would pull the plugs, disable the ignition, etc. to just spin the starter to find it. Didn't find anything till I pulled the #2 carb intake boot off and saw the oil come up out of the top left screw hole when I spun the motor! Then it hit me that it was seeping around the screw and coming down around the boot as I had seen. Put a small amount of rtv around the hole, re-installed the intake boot and let it sit overnite. No more oil leak! Yeaaaaa! NOW I can clean this motor up and mama can wear her white tennies again! One more item off the list! Dan- who will struggle till it gets figured out!

That gear is the last one on the driven axle before it goes into the pinion gear, you'd athought that it would have locked up or second gear would be done also. Dan

Good luck Don, you know we're here for ya. Dan
