  1. SUPER JOB!!! I just love that ghost blue effect... Been toying with doing my '01 in amber or gold... :clap2::clap2: Sue sure does super work!!! She's a really nice person to boot... Here's a couple things she did for me in March 2006... I get lots of questions.... The first one is on my '06 GL1800 trunk lid. The other is an all aluminum cargo trailer I built a couple years ago.. Didn't want to steal your thunder hope you don't mind.... Just showing some of Sue's stuff.... :whistling: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/Whiskers3.jpg?t=1219875603 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/EagleGraphic2.jpg?t=1219875708
  2. It wouldn't surprise me to see other manufactures doing the trike thing soon. As us "Youngsters" age a bit more we'll be thinking seriously about either converting our existing rides or buying new. It's a safe bet many will go for new if the right bike is available. :whistling::whistling:
  3. SUPER JOB !!!! That looks like a relaxing place....:thumbsup2:
  4. Sorry if I took it literally.... I'm a bit thin skin when it comes to "Bike Bashing".... Toss a "VBG" or a smiley face in there so we know you are grinning.... :whistling:
  5. I beg to differ!!! :smile5: I'm sure you didn't really mean that statement so we'll all just pretend you were speaking out of ignornace........ Over the years I've belonged to several different "Brand Specific" boards and have found a few less then desirable traits at each location. I know we don't like to admit it in public but even here there is room for improvement. He can stir all he wants... Didn't hurt those guys near as much as he'd hoped I'm sure.. :sign20::sign20: :sign busted:
  6. You only have to let a helmet save your noodle one time to make a believer out of you. I went down in gravel September 1978. My helmet split like an egg shell but the padding held together and I'm sure saved me from serious injury. My face looked like I had been in a knife fight without a knife and I broke the pinky finger on my right hand but I'm here to talk about it today. Since that accident I've ridden maybe 200,000 miles and every one of them with a helmet protecting my bald head. To this day that old helmet and the accident report have a prominent place on the motorcycle safety bulletin board at the Air Force base I was station at. If it saves just one life (besides mine) then that pain and suffering was worth it!!!
  7. Does he know the pin-out of each system would be my first question. If so, then GeorgeS is on the right track. :thumbsup2: I think the Zumo will plug directly into the J&M unit so the headset is the real problem. Getting the correct head set may the BEST and easiest fix.... Yup it means $$$ but he should be able to recover some of that by selling the un-needed stuff... :smile5:
  8. Since I own and ride one of each I'd say YES/NO/MAYBE....:whistling: Give us more information on you, your riding style, where you are, and anything else that might help and we'll be glad to give you our advise:sick:.... Seriously, Both machines are GREAT rides. They are totally different rides though. Shoot me an e-mail if you don't want to air your concerns here. I'll do what I can to answer you.
  9. "OBO" means there is some wiggle room in that asking price but I'm bettin' he gets pretty close to that $8700. My '00 Limited Edition is accessorized close to the same and I wouldn't take less then that for it... :whistling: Remember price/value is market driven and right now two wheels in this kind of condition are worth top dollar... :hurts:
  10. HERE HERE ROD!!! I haven't taken the course in a while now but I too use to teach the course when I was active duty Air Force. I try to get out and practice the principles as often as I can but you actually teaching right now sure keeps your skills sharper. :clap2: Just a plug for any/all rider safety training courses -- one can never become over trained in this area !!!! :thumbsup2:
  11. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/th_mmtrunkfix002.jpg I thought the crack in my '01 MM was the previous owner's fault. Now I'm seeing a trend..... Just finished what I hope is permanent fix to my problem. I took pieces of 10 gage metal and fitted them individually into each of the little areas across the back/bottom of the trunk (inside and out) then pop riveted them together and laid a layer of fiberglass over the metal patch. Now if the repair will just hold. I had used plastic repair kit that I got off the INTERNET about six months ago and it held for a couple months. Time will tell.... I did a quick e-bay search and found a trunk up in Wisconsin for a 2000 MM Limited. I think the bid is around $130 now. This trunk would need to be painted to match your bike and it has small cracks around the mounting holes that would need reinforced. That's a really good price compared to the $500 a new trunk will cost. Here's the link... Hope you get the problem fixed. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-XVZ1300-XVZ-1300-TRAVEL-TRUNK_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247QQcategoryZ84147QQihZ002QQitemZ120107981306QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V
  12. Is That a 1st Generation muffler? I'm guessing it is...... I drilled holes in the rear place of my '00 MM limited and there was a MAJOR change in the sound!!!! I agree drilling the pictured muffler would not produce any change though...
  13. At about 893 miles you "Buns of Steel" start to feel like the biggest blister ever imagined!!! About 1000 miles everything goes numb!!!! CONGRATS RED!!!!!! Welcome aboard... :thumbsup2::thumbsup2:
  14. See -- I Told you I was blind!!! Thanks... :clap2:
  15. Unless I'm blind (been told that a couple times) I don't see how to delete the classified ad for my Baxley Trailer. A very nice gentleman gave me some of this funny green paper and I let him take away the trailer. It was a good trailer but did not fit my needs any more. New owner can't ride long distance but wants to go into northern rockies so the trailer will help him do that. If someone could pull the ad for me or tell me how to myself I'd appreciate it. Thanks !!!!!!! :smile5:
  16. Isn't it amazing how wide the insurance cost differences are. I can see variations due to population density which does increase the risk factor but we all know that's not the deciding factor. I just renew my Progressive policy. $551 covers my '06 Wing and '00 RSV with 100/300/50 coverage. I do use $500 deductible to hold the cost down just a bit. Guess the touring class price bump didn't get to Texas yet. Either that or someone was blowing smoke because they didn't want to tell the real story... Makes you think ..........:smile5:
  17. IMHO..... There's been lots of wisdom put on the pages here... Each style has it's advantages and disadvantages. The BAXLEY in the classified is mine and is still for sale. I have replaced it with a large cargo trailer because I have too many toys to fit on the open trailer now.... :whistling: The open trailer is much easier to pull but as said does not offer any protection from the elements or vandals. BTW if you wonder about stone guards just go look at the front of any cargo trailer that's been down the road several miles... It will make a believer out of you quick. Since you intended use is long distance I'd say the stone guard is a must have... Going enclosed is also a good choice for all the reasons mentioned. The big down sides are the size of tow vehicle required and the affect the wind will have on the trailer... If your tow vehicle has lots of power you should be OK there. The wind is just something you learn to deal with. I've pulled RVs for years so for me the cargo trailer is no different... Which ever choice you make, don't get sucked into the lowest price is the best choice. Just like everything else -- quality cost $$$$..... Good luck on the decission....
  18. Temperature is not a player. I've ridden just for grins in single digit temps and well over triple digit temps. :hurts: As long as the road isn't ice or snow I'll ride. Here in West Texas that usually means I get 360+ riding days a year. I don't enjoy riding in the rain or when the wind is above 35 mph so that might also cut another 15 to 20 days off the season.. Now you know why we live in San Angelo!!!! :smile5:
  19. It's not a fold up trailer but you might want to take a peek at this.. :whistling: http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/943/cat/18/limit/recent/date/1200319567
  20. Lots of "FARKLES" !!! Glad to see you like that shinny stuff as much as I do!!!:thumbsup2: You'll like it more every time you ride!!!!!!! :smile5:
  21. Here's a picture of two trailers I built........ http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/OutsideDone4.jpg?t=1198347519 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/NuggetIIandWing.jpg?t=1198348239 I seem to recall the general rule of thumb being the axle should be away from the hitch aproximatly 2/3 of the total length. That being said --- the longer the tongue the more stability. Of course you can carry that way too far. You don't want to be pulling a "boat trailer" :whistling: A lot will have to do with the size of cargo area you are looking at. Just make sure the tongue is for sure long enough so the cargo box doesn't hit the bike in a tight turn....:smile5: Take into consideration what the others have said. I like to build things and have to say there are no trailers like the ones I make..... :hurts:
  22. While I was out looking at the radial arm casters springs I took a quick peek at the bolts/nuts. The two nuts appear to be the same. I couldn't tell for sure about the studs. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful :sign13:
  23. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/spring.jpg?t=1200886155 Now how do you guys explain this one??????? MYSTERY SOLVED !!!! These springs hold tension on my radial arm saw cabinet base wheel level adjusters..... YUP -- I did myself in and didn't realize it. After all you "Very Smart Individuals" couldn't ID the villain, I did some mental back tracking. The radial arm saw is the only thing that got moved out there today.... HUMMMMMMM...... :smile5: Thanks for all the efforts and entertainment....:sign isnt that spec:sign isnt that spec:sign isnt that spec
  24. Wouldn't it be a kick in the pants if it's just some road trash that got picked up and chose to fall out now!!!! Now that would drive me out of my goard..... Can't say I've had any 1st Gen bikes around in the last 10 years and I don't have any friends so that can't be a possibility...:whistling::whistling: Keep looking guys -- there's got to be an answer....
