  1. That little circuit it neat but a bit on the costly side. AutoSwitch makes one a lot less expensive. I have one on both of my bikes and have installed it on several friend's bikes. Got mine from Cyclegadgets.com for $38 delivered to my door.. It comes in a positive or negative trigger model so you can use any source you choose. I use the negative trigger from the brake switch. It's more convenient and you do not have to fiddle with the light switch. The brake lever is much easier to use... Tucked the modified remote and the little circuit under the fairing and it works GREAT !!!
  2. http://labs.trunkful.com/LIT-11616-12-60.pdf This is the link to the downloadable service manual. Will tell you exactly what you want to know... Hope that helps....
  3. YES what Slick said..... I had both of mine done several years ago.. The left one gives me a bit of trouble every once in a while but the right one is like brand new.. I can live with a bit of tingle but the falling totally asleep thing was becoming really ugly... A couple weeks and you'll be good as new!!!! :clap2: You won't regret the short lay off....
  4. Is is OK if I stick around and harass you good people ???? There just was not room in my stable for three bikes and I just had to buy the 2006 Stratoliner S to go along with the 2006 GL1800 Goldwing... DON'T HATE ME!!!! :crying: I'd still be proud to ride with y'all so please don't forget to holler at me when you come to San Angleo... :smile5:
  5. There is a general rule about tongue weight. It should be 12 to 15 percent of the total loaded trailer weight. If you are pulling 200 pounds then 20 to 25 pounds of tongue weight is correct. If you are pulling 400 pounds ----- you see the formula. John Preston (Bushtec CEO) once told me the magic weight rule is to never pull more then half the weight of the bike. Even at that you will really be testing your breaking system... As said before you can pull a lot more then you can stop... :whistling: I have an all aluminum trailer I built that I pull behind my Goldwing. It will weigh 400 easy fully loaded. Believe me it is an experience trying to get that sucker slowed down in a hurry. Good thing the GL1800 has awesome breaks !!!! Hope that helped you out..
  6. Flagpoles mounted on the luggage rack are gonna be stronger but I personally do not like that look.. I have flown a US flag and a Texas flag on the antennas for years without any problem... You were very wise to realize the size of the flag in going to make a big difference. Way before you get the antennas to bend way back you'll be putting an awful lot of stress on them. I tried a couple different sources before finally giving up and asking my wife to modify the 4" X 6" flags we buy from Wal-Mart (the ones mounted on the sticks about a foot long). I remove the flags from the sticks then she sews a 4" strip of Velcro to the leading edge of each flag and zig-zag re-enforces the outer edge of the flag. I usually get 2200 to 2500 miles out of set before they become tattered and I feel the need to change them (been doing this for nearly 200,000 miles) ... Mounting to the antennas is easy. The CB antenna center load makes the perfect upper stop so all I had to do was cut strips of the aluminum tape and wrap around and around the antenna to build up about a quarter inch lower stop. The stops keep the flags in place on the antenna. Spread the Velcro and then close it around the antenna mast as close to the front as possible. This part is important.... Get a long hat pin or use staples to close the leading edge of the Velcro. If you don't the wind will eventually separate the Velcro and the flag will be gone.... The radio antenna is bit more involved only because you have to make an upper and lower stop. I hope that helped.. FLY YOUR COLORS - IT MAKE US ALL PROUD !!!
  7. Is that a CargoMate trailer??? Sure looks a lot like mine did before I started finishing out the inside. I pulled all the walls down and fully insulated them. Also did the ceiling and put up paneling to hold the insulation in place .... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/th_0708GettingClose.jpg 8' X 24' gives me lots of room for my trailer, two full size bikes and assorted goodies.... Don't trailer often but in a couple years when I retire we plan to spend months on the road. The motor home for us and the trailer for the toys!!! :whistling:
  8. Yes I use them and they work quite will... I have two mounted in my cargo trailer. One for the MM and one for my GL1800 Goldwing. Thanks to my short legs I have a bit of difficulty getting the MM backed out but not that much trouble. The Wing has the reverse gear so it pulls itself out OK.... As previously said you'll need to position the rocker in the lower position for the RSV. I used the middle position of the Wing because of the rotor covers ... For the money I think you will find these hard to beat. :whistling: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/th_0708GettingClose.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/th_FirstLoadMMChock.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/th_FirstLoadFront-1.jpg
  9. My heart aches for your family!!!! Our children are so precious to us and to have such a despicable thing done to one of them just tears at every fiber of our being... Sounds like your daughter has wonderful support and that is so very important for all of you... I just served on a jury where a father was accused of molesting all four of his daughters!! Yes - that's what I thought.... Unfortunately the physical evidence was very weak and circumstantial evidence wasn't much better (too long before anyone was told). He did get convicted of one count and sent to prison for 15 years ( I know that wasn't enough).. In our hearts most of the jury felt he was guilty of all four counts but just could not prove it.. The important things in your case are first that your daughter told right away... You don't know how important that is..... Hopefully in your daughter's case the law did everything exactly right so the guy can't wiggle out of anything.... I agree that not putting you daughter through any more then necessary is good. Just as long as the guy gets put away for quite a while.... I've understand prison life is not pleasant for convicts that have messed with children.. Even murders love their children !! If there's any solace in a plea agreement that might be it.... Again, my prayers for your family continue.. Stay strong and lean on us as often as you feel the need.... GOD's Speed.....
  10. Our house was built in 1900. Ten foot ceilings were the thing then... Takes a nine foot tree to fill up that space.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/xmas.jpg?t=1229041340
  11. If I can avoid all the family emergencies that kept me from attending this year ----- YOU BET I'LL BE THERE !!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2:
  12. Great looking hauler !!!! Here's a couple snaps of the one I built a couple years ago now... :smile5: I had to learn to TIG AND MIG weld aluminum before tackling this one so it was a real experience. I have a nephew that is a welding GURU so the education was free. Well almost..... :whistling: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/th_JustDone1.jpg http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/th_EagleGraphic2.jpg
  13. "MM" stands for Millennium Official Yamaha name was "2000 Venture MM Limited" Just in case anyone is interested -- I have the Yamaha official spec sheet and description they had on their web site back in the fall of '99... It's in MS Word file format that I can attach to an e-mail or if you need me to I'd be glad to print it and sent to you.... :whistling: Also -- does any of member ride (or know who does) VIN# JYAVP04E8A003009? I bought this bike in early '00 but only had it about 10 months. Just wondering if it's still out there....
  14. Hey JR. I'd choose the Aluma MCT.... They have a wonderful reputation and the style just goes better with the RSV. I know a couple guys personally that have had theirs for a few years and just love them... No doubt the other trailer is a good product but as kenw said -- pretty costly compared the the Aluma MCT... Good luck on the decission.... :whistling:
  15. GREAT PICTURES DAVE !!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2: Ain't that part of the county a wonderful place to ride... I wish I was about 100 miles closer so I could go more often.. Getting down there and doing the Three Sisters then getting back home is about 500 miles.... If it were just normal riding that would be a walk in the park but I can't hold back when I get into the twisties....:sign13: You are right about 336 having plenty of cattle guards but they aren't all that bad. A couple will get you off the seat but the rest are pretty smooth... Of the three it is my least favorite... Isn't that little section of 55 a hoot? Sometimes I run to the top of the hill from Barksdale just for that short distance then turn around and go back... Next time you get all the way to Rock Springs and have the time (I'd schedule it) there is a road (FM674) that runs from just south of Rock Springs down to Bracketville on US90 that is a super diversion..... Don't get me wrong - it's not 335 or 337 but you would have a time for sure.....:clap2: Glad you had a good time. Too bad you buddy had the mechanical problem. Sort of takes some of the sweet away....
  16. If memory serves me correctly, I think one of those was missing when I bought my '00 MM last year.... I'm not big on checking for loose hardware but maybe that needs to change... HUMMMMMM.... :whistling: Might just do that this morning while waiting to go eat stakes :smile5:.. I can just taste it already!!!!!!!!!!!:sign13:
  17. Yes there are a few places in Rock Springs to eat. The best one is part of a motel just south of the intersection of 55 and 377 (right across from the Shell gas station)... The folks in there are friendly and the groceries are good.. :thumbsup2: The other two places are questionable.... :whistling:
  18. Hey Bill -- Do you have the service manual for that beast? If not I have one on c/d for the '06 GL1800. You are welcome to borrow it... Just let me know... :smile5:
  19. Hey Tom, have you ever eaten at Laird's in Llano??? It's a small "Mom and Pop" place on the left as you would be headed south on 71 toward Austin. I like it much better then Coopers... If you haven't eaten there -- give it a try..
  20. Another vote for the D-Rose Inn.... I stayed there last winter once... Deb is a sweet-heart although you really don't want to get her riled up (no I did not).... She runs that business all by herself but gets lots of help from the bikers at times. :thumbsup2: VERY NICE PLACE !!!!!!! :clap2:
  21. Thanks Tom!!!!!! Please do give me a holler... Lowake Steak House sure puts on a GREAT feed!!! The owner is a heck of a nice guy and does all he can to keep people coming back for more !!!! Do I smell a meat (pun intended) and eat..... My back yard will hold about 25 tents.... :whistling:
  22. Funny how a name gets started.... Here's a post I placed on the GL1800 Owner's site about eight years ago... Never heard these roads called anything but GREAT before but since this post they have become world famous!!! OH -- I was known as "REDWING" back then..... In the Texas Hill Country - south of Interstate 10 and West of Kerrville lie “Three Sisters” that will provide any rider much more pleasure than ever imagined possible. Weather this is your first time in the saddle (a true novice) or you are a seasoned veteran, the “Sister’s” generous curves, unexpected dips, captivating sweet aromas and awe inspiring beauty will fill your heart and you will be 100 percent in love. Of course I am referring to three of the most loved and often ridden roads in the entire state of Texas. Ranch Roads 335, 336 and 337 (affectionately referred to as the “Three Sisters”) are arguably the best in the state. Connected in one fashion or another by Ranch Roads 187 and 1050 or state highways 16 and 39, the “Sisters” are truly a full day (maybe two) of pure pleasure. Yesterday, myself and a friend departed San Angelo at 7:30 AM headed for what we knew would be a full day of riding and taking in all the beauty the fall season displays. Exactly nine hours – and 462 miles later we were back feeling very satisfied and a bit worn out. I mean, we had one of those “man I’d love to do that again but don’t have the energy” looks. The only thing that spoiled even a moment of the ride was news at a pit stop of an accident along our route. We couldn’t tell exactly what had happen because all was cleared when we arrived but it appears a fellow rider on a Harley took a spill on one of the “Sisters” curves. We could only pray the rider will be OK. Those of you that have ridden the “Sisters” know what I say – the rest of you need to come ride with me…… JERRY “REDWING” SAN ANGELO, TX BTW -- the invite to come ride with me still stands.... I'm a couple hours ride from the "SISTERS" but it's a good ride.... Plenty of room at my house!!!!!!
  23. Sorry John but you didn't give us enough information..... 1. What brand are the head sets? 2. Do you have a one or two piece cord between the head set and the bike? 3. When you "jiggle" the connection are you moving the cable? I'd suspect the the answer to my third question is yes and that is where the problem is. If you have a J & M set up with the split cord then you can buy just that short piece. I have split the connector and repaired broken wires in the past but I don't mess with it anymore. The repairs usually don't last long and it a lot of aggravation. I'm not saying the problem could not be in the helmet connector itself but in all the years I've used one it's never happen to me.....
  24. You want the second of the two choices... I don't know what that first one fits but it's not 2nd Gen RSV.... I have a sneaking suspicion someone got their photos mixed up but without knowing for sure - do the second one. :whistling: I went to the local Autozone auto parts store and had them special order mine. I gave $85.51 (tax included) a year ago... Hope that helped.. :smile5:
  25. Hey Jugger, Your hitch weight is actually just a tad light -- not heavy.... :whistling: The general rule is 10 to 12.5 percent of the total trailer weight needs to be carried on the hitch. If you get that hitch weight too light the trailer will get really squirely and that could spell disaster. Even though you are a few pound shy of that magic 10% you might be OK.. From what you said it seemed to pull good..... :thumbsup2:
