  1. NOPE... I'd already thought of that one too... This spring is much shorter and not near as strong. The spring is dirty (like road dirt - not oil) if that might give a hint.... Thanks for trying -- don't give up!!! :smile5::smile5:
  2. I was cleaning up a bit under/around the 2000 MM Limited and found this spring in that pile of dust. I'm pretty sure it's off my RSV but for the life of me I don't know where... Anyone had an idea??? I looked at the two springs on the carbs -- they are there..... :confused07: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/extraspring.jpg?t=1200863181 This picture is pretty close to the actual size of the spring. Coil is about an inch long and the over all length just over two inches... Thanks for helping!!!!
  3. I got my 2000 MM RSV all back together after replacing the fuel filter, bumping the carburetor jets up one step, opening up the air box openings, replacing the air filters with K & N, and replacing the intake manifolds. I even have the carbs all pulling together.. Man, you wouldn't believe how far out of sync they were. #1 and #2 were out just a bit and #3 and #4 were out a bit more but the difference between the two sets compared to each other was unbelievable !!!! I set the idle rpm to what felt right (no tack) then started tweaking. Got 1 & 2 in sync then 3&4. Had to drop the idle just a tad. When I started adjusting the sided to side sync the idle went through the roof.... I bet that sucker jumped 1000 rpm. Brought it back to earth then tweaked back and forth until all four were pulling the same. Now I anxious to go see what a difference this makes in performance. That will have to wait. I have lots more to do. I'm in the middle of the "Winter Tinker Time"..... :hurts: Folks if you haven't already become good friends with the tech pages - do so before starting any projects. Thank you so much for all the GREAT tips !!!!! If I hadn't looked at the carb sync tip I'd have been there for hours trying to figure out why things weren't working. I'm surprised Yamaha didn't catch that mistake in their shop manual...
  4. Welcome to the Wonderful GL1800 World. They are everything you have discovered and more..... :smile5: I'm getting a bit long in the tooth also and my reaction time is slowing some. In 2006 I traded for an ABS model. Saved my from going down once just after I got it..... I went through all the troubles you spoke of back in 2000 with my first RSV but my wife's bad back was the final point that made me trade. She doesn't ride at all any more so I had a chance to pick up another 2000 MM Limited last summer and jumped at it.. Man I love the RSV. The Wing and RSV are both tourers but in two different classes... I'm lucky to have both and a wife that lets me..... :whistling: OH, don't get frustrated with the GPS. Give me a holler and I'll tell you a couple secrets... Jerry
  5. At the risk of drawing lots of heat I beg to differ....... :smile5: Weight in the name of the game. The old style Harbor Freight trailer is plenty sturdy to serve as a cargo trailer foundation without adding a lot of dead weight. To date I've built four cargo trailers and have spent considerable time pondering the off-sets of size, weight and center of gravety. It all boils down to this..... The lighter and lower to the ground a trailer can be built the safer it is to pull.... :whistling: This new Harbor Freight trailer is a full 88 pounds heavier then the lighter duty version. Any way you cut it folks that is a lot of extra weight your bike's brakes are going to be asked to stop. It's also a lot of weight pushing you in tight corners and that much less real cargo you can saftely haul... Some will argue that the flat bed is a perfect place to mount the car-top carrier. Forgive me but I've never seen anyone having to bold a piece of diamond plate or plywood on their vehicle's roof rack to support the carrier. Maybe the builders did know what they were doing there...... :fireman:
  6. Support@StumpWare.com or land line # 979-218-6352. Tell him Jerry says HOWDY!!!! I haven't talked with Shane in several months but I'm think he's still around.. Haven't seen him on any of the boards either. I know he gets into a programming zone and doesn't come up for air often... :whistling::whistling: Hope that helps.... :smile5:
  7. Have had Progressive since '01. Had two claims and both were very smooth and fair. :whistling: I've heard so many horror stories to the contrary so I feel very lucky.......:clap2:
  8. I can't get this to load into the classified so hopefully this will do.... Santa brought us an enclosed cargo trailer for all our toys so now I need to sell the 2002 BAXLEY GT2000. Without a doubt the easiest loading and most stable pulling open motorcycle hauler ever made !!! I just don't have a need for it any longer... This trailer has all the options Baxley offers except the tool box and chrome wheels... New price is $5140. Selling this one for $3000. Always kept under cover when not used (which was maybe a total of 7000 miles. Here's the Baxley web site check it out !!!: http://www.baxleycompanies.com/ Here's a couple pictures: http://www.ridersrally.com/gallery/data/500/4772Double_Hauler_2.jpg http://www.ridersrally.com/gallery/data/500/4772Double_Hauler.jpg
  9. Glad to see I stumbled into the right place.. Really, as I said earlier, there just wasn't any other place I could find... :whistling: Thank You for the help... I'll let you know how this all works out.... :thumbsup2:
  10. OK -- I went and looked at the air boxes. I'm guessing you are speaking of the ones the filter goes in.... :whistling: Is the opening up front where the air comes in what gets enlarged? If so how much... A person could carve quite a bit of plastic out of there... I don't see any other place to do any carving so I sure hope that is the place.. :confused07::confused07: Thanks!!!!!!
  11. Well Said Jeff!!!! Ruby and I echo your feelings..... MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!!!!!!!
  12. Thanks for jumping in there Denden... I've sent you an e-mail but you don't need to respond now. Unless you just want to say "HOWDY"..:smile5: I really appreciate the help. Guess I'll be ordering main and pilot jets.. :whistling:
  13. OK, I've removed my carbs because the intake manifolds are getting huge cracks. Earlier someone had mentioned these cracks would be cosmetic only because the intakes had metal sleeves in the core. NOT MINE!! Some of these cracks actually only tissue paper thickness from breaking through. Boy am I glad I pulled the carbs.. But that's getting sidetracked..... :whistling: I've read the tech pages and a few of the threads regarding rejetting. There seems to be some cloudy areas and I really don't want to go through this more then one time... :confused07: In the tech pages I'm getting the impression Don is saying changing the main jets isn't gonna help that only the pilot jet needs to be replaced. Is that what the general feeling is now? In one of the threads someone mentioned they got negative results from shimming the needles. Can anyone shed better light on this? Is modifying the air intake still recommended? If so, can someone point me to "HOW TO"? Pictures might be nice here also... Well I guess that's about it. Thanks in advance for any help...
  14. This will have to do... I didn't think it was for Christmas but the wife keeps telling folks it is... :crying: Guess I'll just have to be happy with being able to carry all my toys now... :hurts: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/071202Lights001.jpg?t=1198343781
  15. I had one of those many many years ago to pull my Honda CB350 around the country. They work OK for lighter bikes but I don't know if the RSV (either gen) would fair too well in one of these carriers. You'd have to get the front wheel in the holder (might be a real chore) and then figure out a way to secure the handlebars so the bike won't tip over. :whistling: Also, I'm not sure how lubrication is routed to the final drive part of the transmission. If the engine isn't running, is fresh oil getting to where it's needed? Sure would make me think twice. When I had the CB350, I removed the chain so the real wheel was free rolling.
  16. Just got back from there two weeks ago myself!!!! What a great place to ride... Too bad I don't live about 100 miles south of here. It wouldn't take near as long to get into the hills... :whistling: I've been riding the "Three Sisters" as often as I can for several years... Funny -- I never get tired of them..... :smile5:
  17. PC-Cillin by Trend Micro for me.... It's rated at the top of the list by almost every PC Magazine and it quite user friendly. Another cool thing is the 2007 version can be loaded on up to three systems. Just so happens that's the magic number at my house so I get three times the coverage for one low price!!! :clap2: I have a very good friend who's been in the PC business for years. He swears by Trend-Micro.... :thumbsup2:
  18. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/071118GarnerSP014.jpg?t=1195701328 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/071118GarnerSP005.jpg?t=1195701127 The boss (payday one) gave me Friday off so I got an early start on the weekend. Since I had all this extra time to kill, a bit longer route from San Angelo to Garner SP was in order. Took a nice leisurely ride to Fredricksburg then down Hwy 16 through Kerrville. I thought those hair pin turns between Kerrivlle and Medina would be good tests on the cornering ability of the newest trailer... I was VERY PLEASED to say the least... I sure don't regret changing over from the single wheel to dual wheel version of "Nugget". Anyway, I finally got down to GSP about 3:00. My buddy was leaving San Angelo sometime after noon so I got my tent set up and entertained myself watching neighboring campers until he finally showed up... We rode back into Leaky for supper then back to camp. Stopped and picked up a couple bundles of fire wood.. Man I do like a camp fire !!! :) Saturday bright and early I was up and had coffee made (you knew that)... We rode over to the Lost Maples Restaurant in Utopia for breakfast. It was misting a bit on the way but had stopped while we were eating.. From there we headed across the hills to Hwy 16 and then up to Medina again to pick up 337. Hooked up with 187 at Vanderpool and on up the road for a short stop at the Texas Motorcycle Museum. Every time I get by there I just have to stop and see if Allen has some new toy... I swear he does but who knows for sure... We rode on up to Hwy 39 then across to 183 and back down to The Pit Stop at Leakey for a quick chat with those folks. From there it was across 337 then both directions on 335. By this time it was getting real hungry out so we headed back to The Pit Stop for a late lunch snack then back to the camp for a while... We ate supper at that little burger place between Garner SP and Leakey.. It's really a pretty nice place. I expected a bit of a dive.... Got back to the camp and stoked up the fire again.... Yup, killed more trees... Shortly after hitting the sleeping bag I woke up with a fire in my guts!!!! Made it to the bathroom just in time to loose large amounts of supper... Several times that night I made repeat trips... Sunday morning I managed to break camp and somehow got back here without major incidents. It took WAY longer then normal to make the trip but I got here and that is what counted.... Friday and Saturday's riding was FANTASTIC!!!! Saturday night and Sunday sucked..... I guess it's called life.... Wish y'all could have come along........
  19. Hey Scott... The quick answer and I'm thinking in the long run the best one is to advise you to buy a repair manual... :whistling: I've owned a manual for every bike I had in the last 20 years... There are several manuals out there for under $25 that will tell mechanically inclined folks how to do most things.... Do a Google or Yahoo search for the year model service manual for your bike.. Believe me it's money well spent!!!!! :smile5:
  20. A couple of friends and I are camping out at Garner State Park on Friday and Saturday night then heading back here on Sunday morning... We'll take in parts of the hill country on the way down and other parts on the way home. Saturday, the 17th will be a full day of riding as much as we can. :smile5: Anyone interested??? We'll be staying in the Live Oak Camping Area... I hope to be down there by 4:00 or so Friday..
  21. Sherry, Rick's thoughts are right on the money regarding the "what if" deal... Even if you did find out wearing a full face might have saved his life, he might have also been tied to a wheel chair or even a bed. Now that's a really HUGE "what if".. :whistling: Cherish the time you had together and remember you are still here.... Do you think Tom would want you to feel the pain you are going through??? We all hope and pray for quicker peace then you are getting. Maybe we are helping -- I sure hope so.... :sign13: GOD BLESS!!!!
  22. Recil (my ridding partner) and I had a WONDERFUL TIME !!!:thumbsup2: A whole 10 seconds after we met up with Bill P, Lowell and the rest we felt just like part of the gang...:hurts: THANKS !!!!!!!! Here's a few pictures.... I'm sure the others will have more :clap2:
  23. I had a good friend that had that set up on his GL1500 for a while. He eventually had to go to the trike but this rig did keep him in "TWO" wheel mode of another year.... It's a pretty cool deal. Too bad the company went bust. If anyone is really interested, That set up may be available. I'd just have to check. Duke passed away last week after a long battle with prostrate cancer... :crying: There were over 30 bikes at his funeral....
  24. Howdy Steve, I just replaced the shock in my 2000 MM a few months ago... The bike had around 23,000 on it then... This shock is not rebuildable - must be replaced. Best price I found (close to $400) was at Powers Motor Sports. Here's the link... http://www.powersedge.net/pages/parts/viewbybrand/2/Yamaha.aspx It's not a hard job. You do not have to totally disassemble the bike like the repair manual says... Just pull the rear wheel and you can reach up in there to do the swap out. I'm hoping they have fixed the design problem with this replacement shock. It is slightly different so maybe the new design will last longer.. Hope that helped..... :245:
