  1. Ditto what redknight13 said. I have one and it has been a great addition and back saver.
  2. I have made two trips with the bags I purchased from Beer30. Great product and I recommend him. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...+liners&page=6 I'm assuming he still makes them.... Tim
  3. I wasn't going to put in my "2 cents" here but ... Riding with my wife is one of the great pleasures of my life. She tells me to name the date and time and she will have the bags packed and ready to hop on the bike. We rode the Dragon two years ago. While we love the scenery and the ride, it was a stressful ride. There were crotch rockets and cages flying by, crossing the center line and screaming up from behind. My Heavens... it is a public road with posted speed limits and high traffic usage! Those who use it as a "track to test their skills" do so not only at their own peril, they also jeopardize the safetly and lives of all on the road. While reading some postings about the Dragon on the Internet, I found sites blasting the THP and Blount County Sheriff's Office for their intense crackdown on reckless driving. I applaud them for trying to make the road safer for not only the local and business traffic that must use this road, but for all bikers, cagers, SUV's and motorhomes that frequent the mountains as part of their vacations and weekend get-a-ways. Frequently on this very site we see post after post of the crazy cagers on our highways and backroads causing bikes to wreck and the riders receiving serious and sometimes life-threating injuries because of cager's poor driving habits and lack of respect for others on the road. While I'm sure it isn't in the hearts and minds of those that want to "test their skills" on the Dragon to wreck or involve others in accidents, purposely ignoring posted speed limits in these high traffic areas and not respecting the rights of the other travelers may very well lead to such events. I think we become the crazy bikers then. As an alternative... maybe we should be trying to convince the authorities to set aside times where the Dragon caters only to drivers, cagers and bikers alike, that would like to challenge the road and test their skills. During those times drivers that prefer to cruise should not be allowed on that stretch of road making it safer for those who want to test their skills and limits of their equipment. Promoted properly it could very successful venture (no pun intended). While many of you may not agree with me, I am very appreciative of Freebird and the rest of you on this site for allowing me to post my thoughts. Ride safe... someone else's future might depend on it!
  4. You be careful on the I-75 traffic through Atlanta. A lot of these folks driving cages in Atlanta drive crazy! Straight through Atlanta on I-75 would be better than trying to go around it on I-285. That is just 3 - 6 lanes of trouble.
  5. Found safety type glasses in business called Fastenal. They sell construction and industrial supplies. They had the Harley name on them. They fit fairly well with the helmet on... not too heavy on the bridge of the nose. They were under $10 when I purchased them over a year ago. Plan on getting another set. Another plus... no on can read the Harley name at night!
  6. Nice ride!!! The wife and I have already decided we would go that route if the laws of body physics dictates so later on. SUM(Age + Abuse) > STRENGTH(Joints+Knees+Hips) That site in Jasper has a lot of bike pics listed. I'm sitting here drooling all over the keyboard!
  7. Thank goodness that my dealer is open on Saturday for business. They are closed on Monday to make up for it.
  8. I also have an 05 but with stock exhaust. I was receiving a pop down shifting but would experience one during the shift sometimes too. I had the shop sync the carbs and both disappeared.
  9. Did my duty too. I was especially fond of the question about do the road crews take motorcycles into consideration! Almost fell out of my chair laughing.
  10. OMG!!!!!! and I thought Atlanta traffic was bad.... geeezzzzz.
  11. I agree with MiCarl. I spoke to my Yama mechanic when I first bought this bike. He said basically what the previous post said. Use the clutch... save a tranny.
  12. Go ahead and bite the bullet and buy her a new helmet. It is better than getting a bugs added to your biscuits!
  13. I'm in for three "Chances" !!!!!! Just PayPal'd the moola to ya.
  14. I'm just surprised that there are people out there that will really fall for this type of lame scamming.
  15. I'm really looking forward to putting a set on mine scoot!
  16. You gonna have to remove that teenager or it will decrease the value of your scoot!!!!
  17. Can anyone tell me the reason for stuffed animals on the luggage rack? I have heard of a few reasons.. here are three: 1. When riding alone and you break down, it gives you someone to talk to while waiting for the trailer. 2. It serves as a warning to your passenger that their seating arrangements can be changed! 3. When you get lost, blame it on the idiot riding the rack.
  18. Yipes! I have not been down on the pavement. I did all my wrecking racing off road in my younger (stupider) days! Glad the daughter is ok and you were not out of work for a prolonged period of time. Oh... those ribs will hurt less if you don't laugh!.... lift, breath, walk, swallow, sit, think.... etc.....
  19. Wow... wonder if they make it in a 50mpg version!
  20. I like my scoot. But there is one thing that must be gone for me to buy an new one.... the whine! 55 - 60 can be annoying. My second choice for change would be Fuel Injection. I have less than 14K on my 05 and I'm working on becoming debt free. I'll probably keep this scoot another 4 years. Then we'll see where Yamaha is (not to mention my budget) with the RSV.
  21. Very interesting video. Seems to strike a chord with the some things I have learned over the years. Did you notice that as the price was rising through the $120/barrel range that news reports were saying that our demand had decreased... but the price of oil/barrel continued to climb! humm... curious... Now I am hearing that demand is back up??? I don't think we control anything anymore.
  22. Ditto what BSREG said on page one. My daughters are in college and each have Toshiba. The wife is in grad school with a new Toshiba.... and I have a new Dell Latitude D530 from work. They are all new and working great. You can get the Toshiba from WalMart at a decent price usually. I suggest purchasing the extra warranty. I'm a Senior Systems Engineer and from time to time I also have to work on these bricks. I'm looking forward to retirement, trading my laptop in for a deluxe Etch-a-Sketch and riding the scoot more..... but that is another 15 years away!
  23. My wife and I were there during the Memorial Day weekend for a couple of nights. Make sure you visit Fort Pulaski. Also, take a breakfast morning at the Dolphin Reef. The are on the 3rd floor and have a window view of the ocean. It is nice view to conversate over with your best girl during breakfast. Oh yes.... we rode our bike out there! Tim
  24. Don't forget the sun block to protect those exposed parts! 22 States and 7 weeks..... man that sounds like phun!!!!
