  1. Look great! What do you think about that trailer? I think it would be a great idea but have not known anyone that has one. Tim
  2. I bought my 05 RSV 3 years ago. Like the others said, it is top heavy and has the gear whine. But you get use to it weight and this puppy is really smooth. Just concentrate on stopping and starting straight especially until it becomes second nature. My wife and if try to take at least one or two trips a year (wish we could do more). First night we were out riding she dozed off she was so comfortable. For a Harley story.... last Wednesday an older guy on a Harley pulled up beside me at the gas pump and inquired about my bike... particular the size of the engine. After he learned that it was 1300 cc he immediately boasted about the cc size of his Harley. My response? Go ahead and pull that hog up beside my RSV. I got a hundred dollar bill that says you won't see anything buy my tail lights and smell my exhaust! Funny, he did not take me up on that one. You may read on this site about folks running their bike up to 95 or 100 in third gear and getting there really quick without the rev limiter kicking in. They don't lie. These bikes are plenty quick and makes tons of power making the touring experience quite pleasurable. I took my bike on a test drive at the Yamaha dealer before I purchased it. After a few miles I came back and picked up my wife for a spin. She was quite amazed when she saw our speedo sitting on 80 and the ride was so smooth... not at all like the previous cruizer we had. These bikes are a lot of "bang" for the buck.
  3. I keep my 05 scoot on the carport covered. I use to have the Yamaha cover. That was a big waste of money. Recently I purchased from Walmart their largest bike cover and carried it with me on vacation. It kept my bike dry in the rain (since it did rain 4 out of 7 days). It completely covered the bike but left the back of the pipes exposed. I think it might completely cover yours. If not satisfied, carry it back to Walmart for a refund! The price was around $20 if I remember correctly. At that price I can buy one every year and still save money over what the Yamaha cover cost me... plus keep the bike cleaner.
  4. I noticed that the last pic had 3 puddles of oil underneath. Did Harley have anything to do with this bike? buhwahahaha (sorry.. could not help myself)
  5. I agree with the above folks. At this price I'm glad to give it a try. I just ordered one!
  6. I live an hour west of you in Haralson County. I make it a point to try and not ride after dark around here. With the evenings getting cooler and the hunters in the woods, the deer burgers on the hoof are stiring around. I have demolished one car with deer. I don't even want to think about what they can do to me or my bike!
  7. I like your priorities... concern for children first. When I divorced I spent 5 1/2 years raising my last daughter at home through high school. I know the pain and the commitment. Stay the course. Your scar will heal and one day you will feel like you have a life again. Be patient. Oh.. and buying a VStar cruiser in 05 after my daughter left for college didn't hurt either! tmodel
  8. Hope you both recovery soon. I know the worse part was your wife getting hurt. I have been through a bike wreck. I pray my wife never experiences it.
  9. Well Yama Mama, I guess it is each to their own. I personally don't understand pulling my bike into some sort of blocks just to rev the engine high, burn the wheels and abuse my engine and tranny. I have invested thousands in the purchase.. and have many thousands of miles yet to ride it! What I do understand is the freedom and the exhilaration I feel while sharing the back road riding experience with my bride. I vividly remember what it was like to have to wait to own a bike of this quality so that I could share the experience with her. I have lived long enough to know that it is not the giant accomplishments in life that mean the most. Instead, it is all the small ones that combine to form the core of our best memories. Maybe for some, the scream of the engine combined with the tire smoke might be part of that. For me, it is the rumble of the engine down some forgotten 2 lane road. And since I'm not particular fond of breaking down, I'll treat her very nicely .... and only run her up to 90 in 3rd gear once in a while!!!!
  10. Nope,, sorry.. no seat for the wife. She would veto me!
  11. WOW! What a trip. It is amazing that you were able to control your frustration level with all the mishaps. At least you are safe and ... you get to plan another trip!
  12. During the summer my dealership told me that they had heard rumblings from Yamaha that there was a 3rd gen coming built around the VMax. That's fine. But my 05 Venture will probably see another 4 or 5 years with me before I would consider another machine. I'm happy with what I have..... for the moment.
  13. Thank you and I will pass it on to him.
  14. A man walked up to me at work this morning and said the he knew I had served in the Army and he wanted to personally thank me for my service. That was a wonderful gesture. I was fortunate not to have to serve my hitch in a combat zone. But my brother was in Vietnam and my dad and his 4 brothers served in WWII. One uncle is buried in Holland. My dad was decorated with 4 Bronze Stars and a Silver Star. He still does not talk much about it. He will not watch intense movies like Band of Brothers. He said it is just too realistic and it causes him to re-live the war in nightmares. When I was young I awoke one morning to see my mom with a black eye and cheek. I asked her what happened. She said that my dad was having a nightmare about fighting hand to hand in the war again. She said she touch him to awaken him and he hit her so hard he knocked her completely out of bed. As dad awoke and realize what he had done he cried. Since that time when dad has nightmares, mom will slip out of bed and go stand by the door and call him till he wakes up. Smart woman! If you ask dad why they decorated him he just says he doesn't know. He says that he and his men worked to accomplished the missions assigned to them and to tried and stay alive. Greater than these things, dad has been a Christian... a soldier of the cross for my entire life. He has worked tirelessly spreading the gospel and building up new churches until his health failed about 10 years ago. Dad is 89 years old and dying of emphysema. He has been a staunch patriot - an American hero, a wonder father, a soldier of the cross and a friend of God. Soon he will leave us. But his casket will not be covered with flowers. It will be covered with his flag. That is his request. He is truly my hero. Tim Ford
  15. My Yama dealer here in Georgia has not had any Ventures in stock in my last couple of visits. Saturday I asked about this. The finance person told me that as soon as they get them they get sold. But you won't get it cheap here.
  16. There is no substitute for performing safety maintenance checks. I found my rear tire cracking back in May during a cleanup one day before leaving for a 4 day road trip. I had not seem that just 4 weeks previous during a cleanup. I replaced it before leaving on the trip. During cleanup 2 weeks ago I found the front tire cracking. Ordered the new Avon and will have it installled Saturday. I check the tire pressure one a week. Every time I start to mount my iron steed I take time to look at the tires for noticable air loss and check the ground and engine for oil leaks. Lights, blinkers and brake lights are check before the first ride any day that it is ridden. You only get one chance to do it right... the first time! I was hurt several times back in my younger wilder days when I enjoyed racing some. Now... I am older and have no desire to test the hardness of asphalt or concrete.
  17. There is lots of good info here. I agree about the helmet might be a big part of the problem. The driver and the bike will take care of the leaning through curves and turns. You sit back and enjoy the smells, scenery and the rumble. Trust your driver. Let him know if you need to "shift" positions on the seat while going down the road. Once my wife learned to not move around when coming to a stop or driving very slowly, stopping became easy. Pull up... stop and I put one foot down most times. She does not move her head or shoulders while stopping. That makes it easier for me to control my 800 pound Yamahorse. Hang in there. You will be fine!
  18. Was at my Yama dealer Saturday for service. They said they had heard that Yamaha was adapting the VMax for the Venture. He didn't mention if it was 2009 or 2010. We will find out soon enough.
  19. I installed their pillow back rest on my horse this summer. Love it!
  20. I like this.... a touch of humor but very honorable. My father is also a WWII Veteran. He earned a Silver Star and 4 Bronze Stars. He is 89 years old and very frail dying of Emphyasema. He is my hero. He always will be. Tim
  21. You could borrow my X- Wife's broom and you wouldn't have to worry about security or carry on!
  22. Glad you guys made it back ok. A multi-day trip on the bike is ridiculas to those who don't ride.... but borders on indescribable euphoria for those of us who do! Looking forward to the rest of the pics... Tim
  23. That is just sick .... on so many levels.
  24. Had this happen to me when new tires were added about a year ago. Called the mechanic while on my 4 day trip. He said not to worry. He'd take care of it when I returned. He did and I have not had a problem since. I like dealers that do what they say they will do. (they like me buying their bikes!)
  25. Dang bubba... How'd you find out about that????
