  1. Vehicle Make / Model: Model Year(s): YAMAHA / FJR1300 2006-2009 Manufacturer: YAMAHA MOTOR CORPORATION, USA Mfr's Report Date: JUN 24, 2011 NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 11V338000 NHTSA Action Number: N/A Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING Potential Number of Units Affected: 9,850 Summary: YAMAHA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006-2009 FJR1300 MOTORCYCLES MANUFACTURED FROM FEBRUARY 2006, THROUGH MARCH 2009. THE GROUND JOINT CONNECTOR OF THE WIRE HARNESS COULD OVERHEAT AND BECOME DEFORMED, POSSIBLY CAUSING AN INTERMITTENT GROUND WIRE CONNECTION. IF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS NOT PROPERLY GROUNDED, THE IGNITION SYSTEM AND/OR OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS COULD MALFUNCTION, WHICH COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL. Consequence: IF THE MOTORCYCLE STALLS WHILE BEING RIDDEN, THERE COULD BE A CRASH RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH. Remedy: YAMAHA DEALER WILL INSTALL AN ADDITIONAL WIRE SUB-LEAD OR, IF THE GROUND JOINT CONNECTOR HAS ALREADY BEEN DAMAGED FROM OVERHEATING, DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW MAIN WIRE HARNESS. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JULY 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT YAMAHA AT 1-800-962-7926. Notes: OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO http://HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .
  2. Ok,for anybody within reach of North Central Pennsylvania,I stopped at on of my favorite haunts for motorcycle stuff,Larry's Cycles,a long time Yamaha and Harley Dealer. Here is an inventory as best that I can remember from this afternoon. For !st gen owners: rectangular driving light set[main parts room],chrome fairing trim,2 sets of chrome seat mounts[not sure which seat].These will be found in a cardboard box in the middle of the floor in the western most used bike room.Just root around.{also some NOS V-Max trim}.In the main Yamaha acessory room,4 sets carb covers+1set for"96-'98,2 chrome center covers to match battery side covers,1 set rotor covers,1 set rear wheel chrome covers,2 sets master cyl covers, driving light mount bars, old style saddle bag lid protectors[i think there was 1 set for 1st gen also] and I'm already starting to forget, but I'm sure everyone gets the idea. And there was 2 Royalstar riding jackets in sizes XL and M.I am not a shill for Larry's,just want to help anybody looking for hard to find items. They are located on Pa route 6,west of Galeton about 4 or 5 miles.Good luck and happy hunting,Herb.
  3. Ok like others I have found that the bolts were left out of the metal strip at the top on the fairing. I did what I thought was the right thing. I took it to the dealer. Days later the dealer put bolts in the strip and told me the repair was good. They completely ignored the fact that the ends were broken loose at the well nuts. After several calls explaining to the dealer how the bike they sell was put together they finally see what the problem is. They claim the inner support is bent and that the bike must have been wrecked and that's why the bolts weren't there. So they are claiming no warranty on any of these parts. I called the Yamaha number? (800-962-7926) The lady said she called the dealer and said if the dealer said it's not something Yamaha would cover than it isn't...end of story. I'm beyond upset. I shopped long and hard to find a bike with 1089 miles on it and warranty so I wouldn't have this sort of problem. Anyone have any help or advice? Frank
  4. "Yamaha Motor Corp. is recalling certain FJR 1300s due to defects in the vehicles’ electrical systems. The potential number of vehicles affected is 9,850. FJR 1300s manufactured from February 2006 through March 2009 could have potential issues with ground joint connectors. The company says that the ground joint connector of the wire harness can overheat, become deformed, and possibly lead to malfunctioning ignition systems and other electrical components. Yamaha dealers are being asked to install an additional wire sub-lead or install a new main wire harness free of charge. For more information, call Yamaha at 800-962-7926." Rut row. Not good.
  5. Yamaha of Cucamonga I have read many posts about “stealers” and how they aren’t all that good. Well I would like to give the highest kudos to Yamaha of Cucamonga. I recently rode coast to coast with Run For The Wall. We depart from Rancho Cucamonga on the 18th of May. I got to Rancho on the 16th for registration and visiting new friends. Well the RSV was running like a turd, well maybe not a turd really but it was running really badly. I would have to increase the RPMs to 3000 just to get it to move. This is my first 2nd gen so I thought, although strange, maybe this is just the way it is. So on the 16th of May as we were driving in traffic I thought I’d just increase the idle and see what happened. Nothing happened still a turd. I started looking for a dealer and found Yamaha of Cucamonga. I took the scoot in and was told that it was firing alright on 1 and 2 but 3 was only hitting about 25% of the time and 4 was cold, not firing at all. The mechanic, Bill, did a carb rebuild and cleaning. He found clogged primary jets and missing O rings in the 3 and 4 carbs. Once he completed the carb rebuild and took it for a test ride he identified the fact that I had modified the air boxes which screwed things up there as well. Well after spending $450.00 and leaving happy, 5 hours later, we feel the money we spent was more that worth it. The Venture didn’t miss a beat for the next 6,500 miles of our trip home. We probably would have wound up beside the road somewhere had I not gone and gotten the problem fixed right. Oh yeah, one more thing, Bill saw my blocked off AIS and told me that the Venture wouldn’t backfire if it were tuned properly, it hasn’t back fired since he complete his work on it. It back fired all the time before he worked on it. If you are ever in So Cal and need a good shop, go by and see Jay Conaway, the owner, mechanic Bill Colvin and the guys at Yamaha of Cucamonga. P.S I will only take it to a Gold Star mechanic.
  6. I understand i can get past service records online with yamaha? Could anyone point me in the right direction. I just became a member on the yamaha site but didn't see the place to check it out. thanks
  7. Anyone know where to get a Driving Light ring/clamp that goes on the Yamaha Passing Light accessory for a 2006 RSTD? Stealer says Yamaha doesn't sell the individual pieces.....
  8. Does anyone have any experience with the Yamaha OEM Longhorn handlebars? I've been looking at them and wondered just how different they are from the stock bars. With the stock bars I kind of feel like I'm reaching for the grips. I'd like to bring them back a little and maybe in a touch so my shoulders are bit more relaxed. I know there's a lot of talk about Flanders bars out there but I was wondering about the Longhorns too, which nobody seems to talk much about. Also, I have a 2006 RSTD. If I were to go with Flanders, what part number would I need? Thanks in advance for all the replies. My God I love this site.
  9. I did not realize that all Yamaha ATVs worldwide are built in the USA. http://www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/news/2011/05/18/yamaha-adding-hundreds-of-us-jobs.html I sure wish I could just walk into the Yami distribution center that is almost walking distance from where I work to get the parts I need. But NOOOoooooo, They have to ship the part from my back yard halfway across the country so that someone else can ship the parts back where they came from. Now if we can just get the big bikes made here.........
  10. Is there one available for my 2005 RSTD? Yamaha doesn't show one, didn't know if one for a Vstar or Roadstar might work?
  11. I have owned 3 different Yamaha Motorcycles the last 15 years. Since 2007 I have been riding a 2006 RSV. I love the bike and have put 34,000 miles on the bike. I had been taking my motorcycle to the same dealer in Columbus for 14 years. I had always received more than adequate service even though the prices were a little high. Last summer the service department went through a change and the quality went straight downhill. My bike was in the shop 4 straight weeks last summer because they cracked a tab on my fairing, forgot to order a few parts, and for the most part were about as rude to me as anyone has ever been. I had been in contact with Yamaha customer relations and they recommended I take my bike to the Iron Pony for regular maintenance. I dropped my bike off there last week to have the steering head bearing looked at, valve adjustment, carb sync, oil change, and overall inspection. This has been by far the best service experience I have had to date! Their prices are ½ of what I was paying, they are professional, polite, and very knowledgeable. Chris, the assistant service manager, was able to replace my steering head bearing under factory warranty. I was very appreciative of this as my warranty expires in 4 weeks. I strongly recommend this service department and look forward to them keeping my bike running well and safe!
  12. I went by the new Yamaha shop going in on St Rt 801 here in Rowan county today. It looked as if it wont be long till grand opening. I have not heard anything on the radio yet though. Will post when it opens for business. It is at the St Rt 801 to Cave Run Lake exit from I-64. It is only 1/4 mile from the interstate. I heard that they will also be selling Honda. Fuzzy
  13. Yamaha are looking at taking on the Kawasaki 1400GTR in a big way by launching an updated FJR – the FJR1400 – towards the end of this year. Apart from its 1400cc inline-four, the new FJR is expected to get bits like the latest-generation anti-lock brakes, traction control and a semi-automatic gearbox that offers clutchless gear shifts.
  14. Another member started a thread about having not received their Star branded iPod Touch yet. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=60075 From the other thread... "reason for getting the ipod touch is that Clarion no longer makes the CD changers for Yamaha. I have the cable in the saddlebag but no CD changer. I was told the dealers don't know a lot about what is going on with the ipod touch. The ipod touch will come with an adapter to plug into the CD cable in the saddlebag. This ipod touch is the replacement for the CD changer." I did a search and found a Chinese site that indicated production numbers of 60,000/year for the Venture. In it it describes the audio system : "Single-point audio control system for AM/FM radio, CB radio, cassette, and intercom.MP3-compatible and headset-ready.The system also includes a Star-branded iPod touch®(8GB) with an iSimple™Solutions audio interface by AAMP of America." http://fooktaitrade.en.made-in-china.com/product/DqXxzEdbnopv/China-2011-YAMAHA-Royal-Star-Venture-S-Motorcycles.html I emailed AAMP of America and this was the response : "I am aware of the project. I believe that will be a Yamaha product only and will have to be source from a Yamaha dealer. The product shipped last week however I'm not sure how and when Yamaha will start the distribution. Please contacting the corp. office in the Southern California for more information. Regards Clifton Brown Aamp of America Technical Support" I think I'll be ordering one !
  15. Someone local (Iforgot if it's in BC or Alberta) is selling a 2006 RSV and says they have an extended warranty that was purchased over and above the mfg 5 yr that is good thru 2013. I don't believe it's a Yamaha offering but I've asked the seller to let me know more. Anyone heard of such an extended warranty on these bikes?
  16. As I am in Australia, product information is sometimes difficult if not impossible to get. I find that I can not rely on the glossy brocures and the dealers that I have contacted generally do not have the user information that I require. IT seems that their main interest is only to sell you something, and subsequently let you find out for yourself. So here is the guts of this post I am thinking about an upgrade from my old faithfull 1996 Royal Star, and have wondered if anyone has had the opportunity to test ride the latest, or any other version, of the FJR 1300. I would be most interested to hear their impressions about:322: this machine. And Also possibly what changes and or upgrades has Yamaha done over the last few models. In other words would any one recommend any particular model or year. Do you know of any glaring, obvious or not, faults or things to watch out for with this run of motorcycle. Any comment or feedback will be very appreciated. Thanks in anticapation of your comments. Winston66
  17. I'm looking at the KURY 4549 Adjustable Cruise Peg Mounts (pr) Fits: Yamaha: Road Star & V Star 950, 1100, & 1300 with stock floorboards I know they don't list the RSTD, but when I look at the parts catalogue on the Yamaha website, i see that the VSTAR 1300 and the RSTD have the same part # for the floorboard, 4NK-27451-10. Does anyone know a reason why I can't mount those on my RSTD? Thanks

  21. how do i replace my ignition switch on 1986 yamaha vr ? thanks Al
  22. Not a Yamaha, but it made it home. Rode it for about 75 miles today. I really like the way the bike handles. I got a keeper in this bike!
  23. So I have been a Yamaha guy most of my life,160 Honda Dream,'66 Honda 450 and then a '70 XS650 but in '80 I bought a XS1100 Yamaha Special that I have ridden ever since. Been with the bike almost 31 years,it does the job, very reliable..low mileage 82000,so have many of you bought the Venture when they first came out and still have them? I have read horror stories of what po's have done to the XS's...if you are the orginal owner I would be interested in your thoughts as I might look into getting one.Just a maybe as a back up bike.
  24. more safety stuff!!! and for the Yamaha too! http://www.ridesafer.com/PhotoGallery.asp?ProductCode=RS0200 you know you all need one or more:mo money: dray
  25. 1983 yamaha venture royale I am new here... currently checking valves ... bike has 63000 miles, and i don't think the valves have been done in a long time. 1. When I follow the yamaha manual's instructions and bring it to top dead center, or even anywhere near there, I can not get a gauge in to find the gap- could they seriously be that tight? 2. I am very confused about the valve shim tools available. I ordered one, following a thread on here saying that I could use a suzuki/yamaha tool. It is not here yet, but after reading some other threads I fear I have ordered an unnecessary piece of steel. What tool is commonly used... has anybody ever made one? 3. I have seen the great play by play on here on how to do this job, but the measurement task is a little fuzzy in the reading. Does anybody know of a video or pictures? Sorry, lots of pictures is how I learn. Thanks a lot.
