  1. I have seen post this week about snow and winter. Here is one way I pass time away in the winter. When my honey do's are done. OnaQwest put together video of a trip him and his wife did this year. He calles it An American Story. Here is his YouTube channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/OnaQwest909?feature=mhum Some of the video is around Cody WY Plus check out motorcyclefreedom channel. Michel and Marcia's does a geat job of putting video up. http://www.youtube.com/user/motorcyclefreedom
  2. Well tonight is a lunar eclipse and it's the winter solstice. In case you wondered the last time this happened was 456 yrs ago. Also you may get to see some meteors as well. You'll start seeing the shadow they said after midnight, but it'll be after 2am that the eclipse takes place. At least that's east coast time. Margaret
  3. This is my winter project this year.
  4. Does any one know what the stock head gasket thickness is? I am going to pull the heads off my motor this winter & put new valve guide seals in it. I am getting a some smoke from exhaust under acceleration. Compression is near spec. on all cylinders, so I am confident rings are OK. They measured OK when I had engine apart last winter. Heads came off a 97 VMax that was supposed to only have 17,000 miles on it. While I have the heads off, I want to increase the compression ratio on the motor. One way to do this is to mill the heads or block. The other way is to put a thinner head gasket on. Head gaskets are available in varying thicknesses. One of the VMax guys gave me the thickness for VMax gaskets, but it seems thinner than the set I put on this winter. Also going to put a Vboost on while I am in there. I am going to run it from the Ignitech TCI module. This work should put to rest that nasty rumor that Brown 1st gen's are the quickest that has been coming from someone in West Virginia. Gary
  5. Not taking no chances after that winter we had last year. With MaMamo's new job in Sumersville thats snow country anyway.I got 4 new HanKook I Pike winter tires coming for her Colorado 4x4. I bought a new set of driving lights for it to. Now if I could just find one of those Cow catcher Oil field bumpers for deer control.
  6. Wonder if any have seen or used this yet. http://www.compacc.com/p/STA-BIL-Ethanol-Treatment Looking for different options as it's getting to be a little to chilly for every day riding here. I try to keep her road ready through out most of the winter as I have been known to ride to work when it's even a little above freezing, because even a cold day on the bike beats a warm day in the truck! Thanks for your input.
  7. 3 inches of :snow2: has fallen
  8. I was 20 miles from home today and we had an fine snow and ice storm roll through about 10:30am. I'm two weeks from finishing the scoot shed for winter storage. Glad I took that 250 mile ride last weekend. Winter is coming on quick.

    UGH!

I just went outside and saw my first snowflake..... 4 days ago the hubby and I were pouring cement in 80 degree weather and now it's snowing. I know I'm whining, but man, it's gonna be a long winter.
  10. Its that time of year again! Its time to book a winter vacation! THis year Joanne and I and a few friends have booked a 9 day cruise leaving out of Miami in January. We are on the Norwegian Dawn and cruising to Samana in the Dominican, St Kitts, Tortola, St. John's Antigua and a few other spots I cant remember right now. Ive never been on a cruise before and am looking forward to it! We are in Miami a couple of days early to wander around at see what is happening in Miami. I know its not a bike vacation, but it gets darn hard to plan a bike vacation in Dec, Jan and Feb, which are the only months I didnt ride my bike last year. So does anyone else have plans to get away over the winter bRIAN
  11. By now folks who are regulars here know I'm not all that mechanically inclined. (and THAT'S an understatement!!!) I have never soldered anything more than a few wires together! All the talk about lifting traces etc has me convinced it is beyond my skill set. I am a bit paranoid about my TCI boxes going bad. I could open them up and inspect them...but if I find the diodes are swelling, are there any electrical geniuses here willing to do the soldering work for me? I'm not talking for free. Just if someone has the nerve (AND ABILITY) to take it on sometime over the winter.
  12. Since winter will be upon most of us soon enough I was just wondering on your plans (if any)for the bike this winter. In January, when winter really sets in here, I plan on pulling down the front end and polish the forks and trees. Thats something I have wanted to do for a while. The lower legs look like crap right now. While the fairing is off and if the money holds out I might go ahead and install the new gauge set-up from Ponch. I like the tach in there better then the three gauges originally offered. Also may rebuild my driving lights using LED bulbs instead of the incandescents and rewire the whole thing. Price is a concern though since the cost of each bulb is 112 bucks. Maybe by then I can find a cheaper set. Flanders G2 bars and extended SS throttle cables might make it into the mix this time too. That should just about wrap up the mods to the bike for a long time to come. Yea, righttttt:smile5:
  13. I'm the second owner, '07 RSV. Bike came from a dealer with a battery connection for a battery tender. Small polarizied two wire lead connected to pos. and neg. terminals on the battery, sticks out from under the seat. Riding for 45+ years, have never used a tender. I always removed the battery for winter storage, used a 2 amp charger a couple times over the winter months. For what/where should I look for a battery tender? Seems it would be much easier than removing/reinstalling the battery. I've seen a couple on the internet, but they have the alligator clips, not the small plug-in type connector.
  14. Hi, Has anyone used one of these vacuum storage bags (or similar) for wintering a Venture? I have lost access to my usual winter storage, so am having to get creative. Thanks, Brian H.
  15. Hi folks can anyone lrt me know at what mileage I should think of replacing the cam chains as my royal star as done 56K with no problems so dont want any now will do this winter if needed happy riding all Regards JWE27, in the UK.
  16. got to looking at my winter project yesterday (a 1959 cushman pacemaker), and it looked so pathetic i just had to tear into it. tore it all apart and it's ready to sandblast, went to harbor freight and bought a 13 hp, motor, so it looks like all systems are go. it will have a comet cv automatic which i had in stock, and i'm planning on painting it medium metallic blue and silver to match my nomad. hoping for a cruising speed around 65 so i can keep up with traffic. since i'm working towards my second retirement, i just had to come up with another hobby so i'm back in the cushman gang.
  17. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ryl6d2ucjE0]YouTube- Yamaha Royal star Venture (Custom)[/ame] Some guys winter project I came across, totally different RSV. He said it was tough getting parts, I can see why!
  18. Was curious if its possible to replace the trans gears without pulling the motor? I know you have to split the case but I do see the one side frame rail comes apart. I have limited room in my garage, so even if it takes longer thats fine, i have all winter.
  19. The front faring on the old 86 is acting like it's wanting to start cracking on me quiet a bit, so I think I've decided to make it a winter project. I would like to pull all the plastic off the bike, reinforce it somehow and maybe even give the old girl a new coat of paint. I know Plastic Weld is good for repairing cracks, but I really want to beef this thing up so I will never have to fix another crack again. Have any of you folks ever done anything like this? I want to start working on ideas now so I can put her up about the first of December and have her ready to ride by the first of March.
  20. Tonight and Tomorrow ...Winter Snow Storm Watch :crying:
  21. I just did everything possible that I can think of to bring winter back. I got the bike cleaned up and running. I put all of the snow shovels away. I took the snow brush and ice scraper out of the truck. Started taking down the storm windows and putting up the screens. I don't know what else I can do to bring back winter???
  22. What are some of the things that you do after the winter storage before you take the bike out the frist time.
  23. Hi, Anyone have any info on whether 2 '84's could be parked side by side inside a Trike sized BikeBarn? http://www.thebikebarn.net/images/smartbarn_sidecar.jpg I guess what it comes down to is: can they be parked side by side in less than 72"? Which is the response from the good folks at BikeBarn. I am thinking I may need to use a nose to tail apporoach. My bikes are still in winter storage in my dad's garage so I can't run out and measure. I am looking for a storage solution for next winter, as dad's garage will not be available to me then. The BB and a bit of real estate in my side garden, is looking like my best solution so far. Thoughts, advice, experience, 2 bikes handy to measure? Thanks, Brian H. PS, there seems to be a free shipping sale on at BB till the end of March!
  24. Just got my new chrome saddle bag protecter bars. Went ice fishing yesterday and they were laying on the porch when I got home lastnight. Remodeling our bathroom this winter but Im getting anxious to wrap it up so I can get tinkering with the bike. Got a few things to do on it now woot!
