  1. Hello everyone" First of all i would like to say that you have a great site. So much information , a lot of great people. I have never posted anything online before so please bare with me i will get better at this. I h ave been a member on this sight for some time i just have not posted this because i didn't want to seem like i joined this sight just to benefit from other members knowledge. Last spring i purchased a 88 venture royale which i enjoyed all summer long putting a total of 7500 miles on. when purchased it had only 19,820 however there were quite a few small issues as the po did not take very good care of her. I live in janesville wi. and this winter we have had record snow fall and cold weather. So i have had plenty of time to adress many of these issues, I replaced tires metzler marathons, all gaskets for side covers, thermostat, gel battery, cleaned and inspected carbs, greased rear wheel to include hub, new rad hoses, plugs, wires cleaned all electrical connections and greased also spent a ton of money on cleaners and buffing wheels, to make engine cases look like chrome then cleared. Finally the reason for post. not havin another venture to compare i feel it runs well going down the road. When i first start the bike it appears to be starving for fuel. also it sounds like it is hitting on half the cyliders until good and warm if i leave the choke on for more than a minute it fouls the right front plug. while the others appear to be starving. i tried to sync and adjust carbs yet this appears to be fuel related. Also while idling warm or cold with light steady throttle the exhaust makes a pop pop pop sound. i have tried everything i know to correct this and it is getting the best of me. I have spent countless hours in the garage please help. also i have a fairly loud knoking sound coming from the clutch side when it is released and nothing while it is pulled in. clutch action is good i have replaced fluid and bled at the same time as new brakes and fluid change. thanks in advance sorry for long post and clutter. I will get some pics up soon once i learn how. she really is starting to look like a beautiful white venture. almost forgot i just got my new travelcade and set of rivco air horns!
  2. So far I have learned to use pledge for "waxing, polishing" to save time, I will try that one.. My cruiser used to take me 1-2 hours to wash and dry, about 1-2 hours to wax/buff/polish, then a whopping 4 hours to do the chrome with Mothers metal polish... Wax and chrome done on separate days.. Too much work..!! 8 hours possible for a complete wash and detail..!! Now I will be washing the Venture, and drying it with my LEAF BLOWER....this works amazingly well (total time 30 min). Then I will try the pledge trick for all surfaces, guessing at 30 min's for this.. So my new total time for a complete wash and detail will be 1 hr...Can't wait for spring to try this now...
  3. I acheived "rocketing rabbit" with an average time of 0.1996 seconds give it a shot..http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/sleep/sheep/reaction_version5.swf
  4. 3 venture tail/brake lights - hope to be seen in the dark. I commute and both ways are in the dark. So far battery has not quit on me!

    Very interesting ...

Here's a neat 3 wheeler ... http://www.carver-worldwide.com/Movies/LoadMovie.asp?S_ID=64&nc=1 Give the video some time to load. Cheers,
  6. The time to replace the tires on my bike is drawing near. I have decided to use avons. I have installed the leveling links on my bike. Should I use the 130/80/16 front or use the 150/80/16? The bike handles great now with the links. Would the bike handle any better with the 130 installed. Any advise would be appreciated. Dan
  7. I had remembered some time ago folks talking about Speed Bleeders. Well I'm here to tell you that I put some in my '99 and had my rear brake fluid completely swapped with fresh fluid in less than 5 minutes. I installed one on my clutch and had it bled in about the same time. If your thinking about getting these, dont wait, they work fantastic! I did it by myself and it was so easy it's stupid I would highly recommend this product http://www.speedbleeder.com/
  8. I have owned my VR for a long time and I have always had a problem with the radio stations not staying in memory. Granted there are times that I do not ride for long periods of time, so if the battery goes dead I would understand it. However if I don't ride it for several days, I must reprogram the stations. It has been like this since the first time I bought it back in the late 80's. Is this a common problem, and is there a fix for it?
  9. Clay18 and I decided that it was time for a new "Venture". We had a tough time deciding what "model" to get. Check out the link to see what "model" we chose. share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=0GaOGrNy2YuPg Lauri

  12. The last time I posted this thread it was pretty short notice and although we did get 5 members to commit it just wasn't enough. But hey, we tried. I just got off the phone with Odyssey, trying to get 2008 pricing from them, and I have some good news. Odyssey agreed to hold the 2007 prices until the end of the month for us. So the prices posted below are still good until 1/31/08. We still need to get 10 members.... or more, but the timing isn't as critical this time around. Here's a cut and paste of the important info..... http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc680_sm.jpg For 1stGens the Odyssey is PC680. Your price each to your doorstep will be $99.00. Be aware that this is the non-metal jacket battery. I discussed the application at length with Odyssey , and they reiterated what they had said in the past about not needing the heavier MJ version for our 1stGens. If anyone would like one of the PC680MJ's I'm sure we could get one, but the the difference will be an extra $11.00 bucks. Also take note that the batteries will be fresh from the supplier, and haven't been sitting on a dealers shelf for an extended period of time. http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc545_sm.jpg For 2ndGens the Odyssey is PC545. Your price each to your doorstep will be $94.00. Payments are to be sent via Paypal to paypal@cast-aways.com Bateries will be drop shipped directly from Odyssey, except for those batteries going into Canada. They'll be bluk shipped to us and then shipped from here. There will be a shipping surcharge for those batts shipped to Canada. I'll probably do the same thing as the MAC's which seemed to keep the cost down, and be agreeable with everyone. The prices work out to be Dealer cost plus $15 bucks to cover shipping and paypal charges. Canadian shipment will need to be adjusted once I get one here to do a shipping estimate. If you have any questions, or see something that's missing from the above please PM me. Jack

  16. At our new state of residence Nv,Las Vegas. current temp is 51 F We went through the snow and cold and saw many wrecks and arrived safely. That is the important part. We had a couple of close calls and it never ceases to amaze me that when the temp is at 32 F or below and the roads are snowy and wet why people think they can drive 70mph. I mostly think it natures way of passive aggressive natural selection but the trouble with that is that those idiots seam to take others out with them. We are excited about our new place to live, more riding time and new places to explore with the great people we have met here and the new ones to come. We will mis our friends and riding buddies we had in Mn and hope that if there looking for a little winter vacation they keep us in mind. We have arrived...........................Ron
  17. From csmiles3, concerning the Guardian Bells on Ebay, but he didnt send it directly to me, it came to me thru a Yahoo group that I started 3 years ago that I use to promote VentureRider. I was really surprised to see that someone had actually joined VR after joining my Yahoo group, because I never researched the members list there against the one here, so I guess its about time I do that. So Chuck, thanks to you for doing that, because I never got around to it, because frankly, I didnt think that that site was doing any good, so now I will have to pay more attention to it. For those of you that are curious the name of the group is "83Ventureriders".
  18. Had to go to the store this morning and decided to drive the wife's SUV. It was pretty dirty so I decided to run it through the automatic car wash. Should have been OK but the dryers were apparently not working very well so by the time I got home, I had a heck of a time getting out of the car. 4 degrees F right now and it sure doesn't take long for the doors on a car to freeze shut.
  19. I had two good rides last Monday and Tuesday so I figured the weather had turned cold again so it's finally time to look at my # 3 carb. It would leak gas after a ride one day and the next time it wouldn't. I tried the Seafoam many times and it still seeped out. So off the carbs came. Upon looking at the # 3 needle and seat I do see a ring mark on the needle but it's very hard to see and the light has to be just right. I have ordered new one's from Buckeye but my gut and experience tells me that may not be enough wear to cause the leakage. The question I have, is there any other vent lines or blocked ports that could cause pressure to build in the carb making it seep? Anything else that would cause it? Thanks. Spotsy
  20. So I guess it's time I told the story about Scamper. Back in 2005, a long time in motorcycle years, Scamper was brought to his present village. Many where the well wishers and the oglers that attended to view this specimen, extraordinare. His colours shone, his chrome was set to sparkling, and his footing was sure:happy65:. Always was he ready for all that was required, rain or sunshine. Scamper loved his new home. He was proud, not only to carry his master from place to place, but when the time came he was more than ready and very able to carry both his master and his masters companions. But as the season wore on, the days began to get colder and the time soon came that Scamper was housed in his stable to undergo some general maintenance and a much needed and deserved face lift. New safety items were added, new footwear was installed, and some new sparkle completed the resting season. The warmer temperatures and drier atmosphere created ideal conditions for Scamper and his riders, so that all were able to enjoy many miles of freedom and relaxation. But alas, the temperatures again did drop, and the clouds returned and once again Scamper was put into his stable to endure the winter. PICTURE#1. He did complain some, about having to spend so much time alone, that a companion was sought to be with him and keep him from getting lonely:cold:. In due time a Wizard was found and with him a companion with good looks, and a blonde complexion. These two now spent their time together in the same stable. PICTURE#2.It took some time for them to get acquainted, but then one day as I went out to check up on them and to make sure they were not as some ventures are known to do, I noticed that the Blonde was not in her usual berth. Much to my surprise she had moved to an intimate position and seemed to be much taken by the now very pleased Scamper:think:. I didn't think too much of it and thought to let them spend some time together, seeing as seemed to be a thing of the past and better relations were on the way. Just how much better became evident some time later, when again I went to do a daily check and :shock3:PICTURE#3.

    What the heck...

anybody notice we have a new record of 576 users on at the same time, 7:38 p.m. this evening?
  22. hi all my guardian bell came in the mail this afternoon. what a peice of metal, has a nice feel to it also. so much better than my old bell. thanks freebird for thaking the time to do this, i'am well pleased. best regards don:322:
  23. To take some time, a few tools. a little extra light, and go over your scooter from front to back and make sure all the nuts and bolts are good and tight. Reason why I say this? I have to fix second gear on my scoot and so I got started on it today. The motor is now ready to slide out. In the process I found lots of bolts that should have been tight but instead were soo loose that I hardly needed a wrench to take them out. Engine mounts, tightened last year, bottom side rail,(right side part of frame) tightened last year were my biggest concern. I will now go and check each and every bolt I can find and make sure it's tight, tight ,TIGHT.
  24. I posted an offer to let members use my Time Share units at cost here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18368 But I also got the idea that there are undoubtedly other time share owners on this sight that might consider just swapping a week straight across without having to pay the normal trading fees? If you have a time share or vacation home that you might want to trade for a week in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, give me a shout and we can talk about it. And if I hear from multiple members, I'll even keep track of it all and maybe try to organize a mini VentureRiders vacation swap group. You may not want mine in Cabo or me yours, but who knows what other matches we might find? If enough members have an interest, maybe we can even get Don to put up a vacation swap forum here? Just a thought... Goose
  25. Greetings all - just taking a few days off for a winter vacation - spending a week on St.Croix. Great weather here, but I still miss my bike! Thankfully, we do have internet connection here, so I can keep up with what is going on. The main purpose of this post is to make an offer to all VentureRider members - its been a few years since I have posted this offer, so I thought it was a good time to do it again (and my own vacation reminded me): I own several time shares, and I would be happy to let any member here use them at close to my cost for the maintenance. That would be around $800 for the full 7 day week in a 5-star luxury resort in Cabo San Lucas, a couple of hundred more if you want me to trade it for another resort anywhere in the world. The cost might be a little less, depending on the size of the unit you need). Just FYI in case you want to do a little checking on the Internet, I own units in Pueblo Bonito Rose and Hacienda del Mar (both in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico), as well as a house boat in Lake Eufalla, OK and the St. Johns River, FL. In addition to using these resorts directly, I can trade them for any of about 4,000 resorts world wide through the RCI club. My units are all floating time, so that means that you just have to decide on the week you want and I'll reserve it in your name. The last time one of our members took me up on this offer, I waited a bit too long to try to get the reservations, so I was not able to get the exact dates he wanted, but I will do my best to not let that happen again! In most cases, 3 months advance notice is plenty (often less is OK), but if you want spring break or a popular holiday, we may need up to 8 months in advance to ensure the date. I'm not trying to make money off this - just help out some of my fellow members here. The only thing in it for me is a little more flexibility to sometimes take another vacation on my bike instead of using my time shares. Send me an email or PM if you want more information or want me to check on available dates somewhere. Ride safe, Goose
