  1. Good Morning All, Last time I rode my 2005 RSTD, I noticed a vibration at higher speed. My RSTD has about 9830 miles on it. I have read several posts here about greasing the splines in the rear hub and the drive shaft. I would like to do this before a trip that I have scheduled for the 24th. Can any of you direct me to existing threads with step by step instructions on what must be removed to accomplish this? For instance, is it necessary to remove the rear fender and the exhaust header pipes? I am mechanically inclined, but I haven't ever removed the rear wheel on a shaft drive motorcycle before. Also, I have read threads where people have ruined seals trying to remove the drive shaft. I want the bike to be safe for this trip, but at the same time, I don't want to do anything stupid that will end up causing me to not be able to take the bike on the trip. So can any of you point me in the direction of some step by step instructions of this process? (Pictures would help if available.) Thanking You In Advance. Regards, Tony
  2. Quick one here. I need to grease and change fluids on the rear end before a trip in a week and a half. Is this the best step by step to follow? http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=69
  3. I have a question on the Fork Seal replacement instructions posted by Freebird if any of you have done it this way HERE In the part below where you remove the 8 or 10mm Allen Socket on the bottom of the fork, mine just keeps spinning around and around.. I didn't see in the instruction where I was supposed to do anything to stop it on the other side, but I am turning it counter-clockwise and it does not come loose, it feels like it is spinning a nut on the other end of it... Not sure how to proceed now my seals are leaking like crazy and bike front end is apart for this step. Any ideas would be appreciate... Thank you, Brandon Freebird's picture from this step http://www.venturerider.org/forkseals/george/12c%20%28WinCE%29.jpg
  4. Now I'll be able to go on base and bully.....er... Wait...Wut? Motorcycle Permit??? Daylight only? No Limited Access Highways/Interstate?? NO PASSENGERS??? What a ripoff. I thought I'd at least be able to cause heck on base. Oh well. At least I can get on the two wheelers. Sorry Kat, can't come along for the ride yet. But, anyway, Yep. I'm on the first step to getting that nice long road cruise under my belt. Next up, Taking the Motorcycle classes up in Lawrenceville. Better and more thorough than the DDS classes. Soon it will be so.
  5. I saw a thread that I cannot find now. It was a handy step by step instruction with pictures for a Markland hitch install for a 1st gen. There are some details in the install that I just can't quite recall. Iowa Guy
  6. Ok guys, first off my search-fu is weak. While there are multiple threads about removing the stock windshield (i'd like to get a blacked out 10" one for the summer months) I can't seem to find a step by step instruction on it. Would someone please point me in the right direction to an appropriate post, hopefully with pictures? Thanks in advance! Csogbk
  7. OK...I got my shortened kickstand back from JerryW (excellent job by the way) and now I am ready to put it on the bike... I have done a search and actually was surprised to see nothing in the Venture Libraries about removing the side stand. What is the easiest procedure to do this...can I do it while someone HOLDS the bike up (since I don't have a bike lift)...and how hard is it to replace the spring back on? Any help (pics would be nice) would be greatly appreciated...especially if in a step by step procedure. Thanks. Wally
  8. Recently recieved the new stator from Buckeye Performance. Is there a thread on information with step by step directions with pics on the removal of the stock stator and the installation of the new stator? I've been searching, but unable to find anything. Any help is most grateful.
  9. Ok guys, it is getting to be time to get the bikes out and I am willing to host a maintenance day at my place if there is enough interest. Let me know if any of you are interested and I will look at the dates that others are using so we don't step on any toes.

    Carb sync - wow

I rec'd not 1 but 2 carbtune kits for Christmas. I finally got around to downloading the step by step procedures and did follow the easy steps. All I can say is WOW, what a difference. I've put on almost 100 miles and I can't believe the preformance and I don't get any popping. Thanks to this forum and I can't remember who posted the pics and procedures, but it was sure worth the whole 45 minutes it took me to syce the carbs. Bob
  11. Pardon my ignorance if this sounds like a dumb question. The piece in question is number 4 in the picture. The bike only has one on the left side and it makes taking off the seat a hassle because it's doesn't allow full access for my socket wrench. Granted I could always get a socket that doesn't requre a step down adapter. I took it off to make it easier to remove the seat. How important is this piece and am I supposed to have one on the right side too? http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk86/jason1gp/random/cylinderhead.jpg
  12. Please.... step by step. My exwife told me I was not very smart, so make it simple please. Cb
  13. I searched this sight about front lowering and think I will slide the front tubes up on my 2003 Midnight. It looks obvious how to do it but I know the best way is to hear from someone who has done it. So...how about some step by step instruction help? Thanks JerryK:Venture:
  14. CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME FIND THE THREAD ON REBUILDING THE STARTER W/ THE STEP BY STEP PICTURES, I KNOW IVE SEEN IT HERE IN ONE OF THE ROOMS,IM SURE ITS EASY, BUT THERE IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE WITH THE GROUND CONNECTIONS, AND I CANT RECALL WHAT IT IS.....THANX!!!!!!!!
  15. My mom has been building and painting these step stools for each of her grandchildren over the past several years. My daughter has one with some flowers and a few fancy decorations. My son has one with a Disney Cars theme. I think my nephew has one with a spiderman theme, and my other neice has a pixie fairy theme. My mom also built one for when the grandkids are at her house (harley davidson theme). There is a storage compartment under the top step where my son loves to hide stuff. My kids have been kicking theirs around for three or four years now. they have been pretty durable. Soon I will be tucking them away in the attic for safe keeping. This is the latest one, a Peter Rabbit theme and is certainly the best one yet. Hand built and painted by my mother. (The background is painted, the actual charactors are stickers) The whole thing has a thick clear coat. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Step%20Stools/4a640d12.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Step%20Stools/64a5119f.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Step%20Stools/50dc6d24.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Step%20Stools/50dc6d24.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Step%20Stools/00ac2e44.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Step%20Stools/8db6e5bc.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Step%20Stools/51a97cba.jpg
  16. Have you ever wondered where the motor support brace bolt (the one that hides behind the brake reservoir) goes when you drop it while reinstalling the brace? Note to self just remove the reservoir first it makes it easier. Anyway, that bolt ends up in the radiator fan housing. It is completely invisible to the naked eye. I spent at least a half hour or so looking for it yesterday. Finally I got the bright idea to stick my hand in to turn the fan blade. As soon as I started to turn the blade I could hear that sound of metal clanking as I turned the fan. The good news is after a couple of turns the bolt fell out the bottom onto the floor. Super Bowl Sunday was spent successfully changing the spark plugs, air filters and radiator fluid thanks to all the step by step guidance provided here. The next session I plan to add the Gen Mar risers, change the gas filter and of course the oil. Come on Spring!!!!! Thanks for the help, Dave
  17. Hey people, as some of you know, I just purchased an '09 Venture. The dealer offered me a 20% discount on accessories so I went a little overboard on the items I wanted to dress up my ride. Thing is, when the quote came in, with installation included, the actual installation price was almost the same as the accessory price (eg. Trunk rack cost: $180. Installation: $135!!!). What I'd like to know is if there's various posts that explain installation techniques such as installing passing lamps, trunk wings, braided lines etc. I mean, step by step instructions to simplify my own installation. I dressed up my Silverado on my own but I'm not an expert, just a back yard type mechanic and any help would be appreciated. As usual, thanks in advance for all your help!........... Bluez

    Replacing the rear shock

Not sure when this darned cold snap will end that it gets warm enough in the garage to work on the bike. When that happens, I am replacing the rear shock on my 1st gen. and was wondering if anyone has pics and/or a step by step explanation of the procedure. Would appreciate if anyone has so I have a better understanding of what I'm getting into. Would appreciate knowing if there are any special tools needed, and roughly how long this job should take. Thanks
  19. Lowered the front end 1 inch using tech step by step instructions. (Those need to be better with photos) Now I can't add air to the front suspension because handle bars are touching the air ports. Any ideas besides removing the handlebars to add air?
  20. My Step Son wrecked his 750 Suzuki this afternoon. He was getting on the parkway and an 18 wheeler had pulled into the other lane to let him in and then pulled back in on him. He said the last he remembered was hitting the brakes. It scattered parts for nearly 1/8 mile. Looked like the truck actually hit the bike. He had his leather on, but still has several scratches. This is his first day home on leave from the Army. Not a good way to start a vacation!!
  21. Hi guys & Gals, I recieved my levelling links and the instructions that came with them are not very clear. I know some of you guys have installed them yourself, but is there a posting in here somewhere with step by step instructions or can someone here post them for me? I don't want to be a pain, but I want to save a few bucks by installing them myself. I've worked on cars and trucks before but my RSMV is new to me. Any help and/or tips is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
  22. I have an 89 royale that is leaking oil from something? maybe a crossover?! It is between the heads at their base, this thing runs from one side to the other and has a bango fitting on it w/small hose going somewhere. How should I fix it? #2 question --- I believe my bike to have a diaphram issue, does anyone have pics on step by step repair and how to step by step repair? I've read something about liquid tape or yamabond? All help is good help. I just bought it couple months ago, don't know alot about it except it has 28k on it one owner, and I don't think he did anything to the carbs. It starts fine but it definitely doesn't have the power it should! I did check the temps of the exhaust right at the header, soon after startup at idle the rear 2 are in the 360 degree range and front 2 slowly climbed to 185 and on up, but nowhere near the rear 2 exhausts temps, checked for spark in the fronts, both ok. When you really twist the throttle she tends to come to life a little. I'm hoping it to be a diaphram issue. Thanks for any responses:feedback:
  23. Does anyone know where I can go to find out what helmets are approved for use in Canada (dot, snell, etc)? I am having a hard time finding it on the web, my next step is to talk to the RCMP if no one can help me here. Thanks
  24. So I have lived in a mobile home park for the last few years and really decided it was time to get out and make the big plunge to buy a house. I was especially motivated when two weeks ago some folks that I assume to be ex or current hispanic gang members (due to their tattoos) moved in next door. I had already been approved for financing, but I suppose I just was a little scared to take this big step. That is, until I found the PERFECT house. I put in an offer Thursday morning, there was another offer that came in by noon, I put in a counter-offer and I got it! Folks, this house is perfect for me. It has a cottage-feel and would be entirely inspiring creatively. It has a two car heated garage - PERFECT for my pottery studio, and also storing the bike! The yard is already fenced in. So basically Bogie and I could move right in and be perfectly happy, warm, and safe. Now, I still have to go through the inspection process so I'm hoping nothing horrible turns up with that. I've attached some pictures of it!
