  1. Since my accident I get to get new speakers since one was totally destroyed, also getting rid of stock radio. I'm going with polk db401's but I'm sure they will distort at higher levels being only 4" speakers and since most of my rides are 55+ mph hearing them is harder without distortion. Anyone using bass blockers? Hows the sound? I like some bass does it totally knock it out? Any opinions?
  2. Here are some pictures from Cougar of the new Polk speakers that he installed on the rear of his RSV. He confirms that they will fit but that you have to remove the black ring that came on the stock speakers.

  4. Is this normal? When I change the sound system to the headset setting, I hear the music over the speakers in the rear. It is not very loud, but enough to hear it clearly. The headsets do work when plugged in, but can still hear the sound out of the external speakers. Is this normal? No sound out of the front speakers in the headset mode.
  5. I'm not sure on any bike but my 07 if yours is not like mine then I don't know what to Tell you, but my rear speakers are Stereo. I got bored again so I decided to take a look at the rear speakers again. Now if you look at the wiring diagram for the audio circuit you will notice that they only show one rear speaker along with the two front speakers. It struck me funny that anyone would build a stereo amplifier for the two front speakers but only incorporate a mono circuit for the rear two speakers. So I decided to tear the MCU apart and take a look at this to see If it was possible to add another rear output. Well I know what your thinking, why would someone tear their MCU apart. Well I didn’t need to because while tracing the wiring for my rear speakers on my 07 RSV I discovered that it has two outputs for the rear speakers (a left channel and a right channel). That’s correct the 07 has stereo rear speakers. I don’t know about any other 2nd Gen but I would think they are all the same but I don’t know for sure. I traced the wires from the MCU to the front and rear speakers and I have attached a diagram showing the wire colors. I have also attached a few pictures showing the 18 pin MCU connector in the front fairing ( all four speaker wires run through this connector) and the two speaker connectors (one for the left rear and one for the right rear) under the passenger seat. I then made an MP3 file with sound on the right side and then sound on the left side to test what I found and even though you get some sound in the right rear speaker when there is no input for the right rear it is minimal and I think it’s just feed through from the MCU. The same is true for the left rear speakers. What you hear in the front speakers is what you get in the rear speakers if it’s stereo in the front it’s stereo in the rear. I was under the impression that the rear was mono, not true in my case on the 07. wire color code: Left Front Speaker ------Red/white + Left Front Speaker-------Gray - Right Front Speaker------Red/Black + Right Front Speaker------Blue/Black - Left Rear Speaker--------Red + Left Rear Speaker--------Brown - Right Rear Speaker-------Red/Yellow with a gray Strip + Right Rear Speaker-------Brown/Black - Am I wrong?
  6. I have been toying with building a 40 watt stereo amplifier (2x20 watts) that uses the bikes fader control to control the amplitude (output) of and converts the rear speakers from mono to stereo on the RSV. Actually I have built the unit and I’m happy with the results so far but I may try and reduce the size of the unit. All the bikes electronics remain intact and work as advertised; this unit only provides contollable stereo output to the rear speakers using the bikes fader control. If you turn the volume up on the rear speakers using the fader control on the bike you increase the amplitude of the rear speakers and visa versa. The base and treble control on the bike will control the base and treble on the front and rear speakers. The unit will fit behind the access panel of the trunk, which is located behind the passenger seat. You have to tap the front speakers and run wire to this location. If you don’t have volume on the front speakers you won’t have volume in the rear. The big problem was to build the circuit so you could not overload the input by turning up the front volume. You also have to run power and ground from a switched feed for power to this location. You can use the stock speakers because the power output is only about 11 watts actual per channel and the stock speakers are 14 watts. I can increase the output of the unit to about 100 watts per channel and still keep the size down so it will fit, but if I did this you would need to upgrade the rear speakers. I have been in contact with a company that will build the component and enclose it in a watertight enclosure but the price is a bit high I think. In order to get the price down to what I consider reasonable I will need to order 1000 of them. At present I am trying to get the price down to $130 to $150 delivered in the states. I don’t know that I can do that and keep the quality of the unit up. At present the unit would sell for about $180.00 plus shipping. So before I continue searching for a manufacture that will give me a better price I want to get an idea of how many people would like one. Also what do you think of the price? Thanks for you inquiries and input.

    Speakers

Don't throw your money away on these: LEGACY LS-452MK speakers, they sound like a soup can with a string.
  8. On my new Venture when I have the audio coming through the headsets I can still hear the music on the rear speakers. Even when I have a headset plugged in the back it has sound coming out of it (in esense both the speakers and helmet.) It it very soft and no major deal but it does not seem right. The front speakers for not have this issue. Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it?
  9. Changing 2nd Gen Speakers From what the guys posted last week about the Polk's I ordered two of them and I think they are great sounding! Two Summers ago I changed the stock speakers to Pioneer TS-G10400's the speakers are OK but just not there yet. I then added bass blockers and it helped. now with the blockers added to the new Polk's (front only) Moocho better. The Polk's can handle a little more power (amp in trunk) so combined with the bass blockers it really sounds great even with-out the fairing on the bike. That is the problem with the fronts.. not like the rear on the RSV. (in a pod un-cased) sound much better. So I left the Pioneers in the rear for now. Here are some pics of all 3 speakers OEM SPEAKERS (Junk) Pioneers Much Better Polk's Even Better 107DB400Polk Audio db 400 4" 2-way Speakers 1049.9949.99 Here is all 3 of them top view And side view Now with that being said, here is how you remove and put them in a 2nd Gen..... #1 Remove Fairing. (there is no going in from the front) #2 Remove the gold bracket and the black box (blinker box>?) #3 Remove the Philip's screw for each speaker #4 Start removing the four screws holding the speakers in place.. use a 8mm wrench when you can and a 5/16 deep socket for the hard to get to ones. #5 Now with all the screws removed you start to pry the front bikes grill along with the speaker a part. If adding Polk's you will need to enlarge the (2) inner holes a little bit.. (2 holes that will face the middle of the bike) #6 when adding the new speakers the (inside holes will be placed in-between the plastic as show) NOTE: I did place small pieces of cardboard in-between the metal bracket and the magnet so it Will help NOT to demagnetize the speakers. #8 DONE (replaced everything in reverse order) Now CRANK IT UP! Happy Riding! 10. I am looking for a set of speakers that will mount on the handlebars of a VStar that can be used with an MP3 player. I have been looking thru Ebay. Anyone know of any good ones or made their own?
  11. How do you remove the front speakers? I split the fairing and removed the four nuts holding the speakers but can't figure out how to remove them?
  12. As I mentioned on my other post, I just got 2 sets of J&M Headsets. I can't install them into the helmets however I did hook them up and put the speakers to my ears. WOW!!!!! what a wonderful high quality sound. These are amasing. However, when I plug in the headset, 2 things bother me: 1. After selecting HS on the system, I get a hum/hiss sound in the headset even when the volume is all the way down. 2. I still get sound (radio, mp3, whatever), although faint, from the rear speakers. NOT the front. And this happens when I plugged into the front jack as well as the rear. Anyone have the same problem? Thanks Greg
  13. I'm looking to improve the radio sound on my 92 Venture, any suggestions on a good sounding set of speakers the will not break the bank?
  14. There is a huge archive of the stebel air horn but i did not see anyone having a problem i have encountered with feedback through my radio> when the radio is on (or the cb) and the button is pressed there is a loud feed back through the speakers. So much so im afraid of blowing the speakers not to mention my ears if i have HS slected. I installed it according to the instructions that came with larrys bracket. The only difference is i put in a seperate acc relay first which will also control my future heated grips and driving lights so everything goes off with the key. This first relay is fired by the acc pigtail located under the seat. Perhaps I should have fired it from a tail light wire or something? I have heard no one else with this problem? You guys always have suggestions. thanks Jack in los osos ca:confused24:
  15. Has anyone changed their speakers? I am sure a lot of you have. I am thinking of replacing the speakers with decent 2 way speakers for better highs and midrange. Damn, no place for a sub! Has anyone ever added an amplifier? I am thinking of a small sized 100 watt amp (4 x 25). Is there a decent quality small compact sized amp that can be used on the Venture? Would it be relatively easy to hook up? Looking forward to your replies. Greg
  16. I was wondering if anyone has ever placed a different speaker in their 2nd Gen. Venture. If so, what kind? Thanks.

    GPS Question/Help

I'm looking to get a GPS for the RSV. Can anyone help me out? What brand, do I need color, do I need one that talks to me and if I do will it hook up the the speakers on intercom on the bike? I'd like to keep it under $300 if possible. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  18. I noticed that if my CB is on and I use the horn, I get loud static in the speakers. Does anybody else have this problem ? What is the cause a bad filter?
  19. Somebody asked me to post a reveiw when I finally upgraded my speakers. sorry I forget who it was... but here it is: My factory speakers quit comepletely the night before I was to leave for Houston... I'm 40 miles from any Circuit City, Best Buy, WalMart... So Fri morning (leaving day).. I head down to Belfast (7 miles) to see what I can score for new speakers.. Cuz I don't want to ride 2000 miles with no tunes. Belfast has Autozone, VIP Autoparts, and a Odd Lot.. Strike out at Odd Lot and VIP.. Thought I struck out at Autozone but spotted a pair of speakers by the door on the Bargain Table... Pyle PLRL42 4" 140 Watt Electroplated Red Cone Two-Way Speakers for $7.00 marked down from $30.00 .. Went home and installed them.. had to ream out a couple of holes cuz the big magnets hit the speedo housing. DO NOT BUY THESE!!!! http://12.41.28.254/pyle/PLRL42.jpg These Pyles worked great... for about 4 days.. 2 days for the ride to Houston and 2 days while I was there.. pulled the fairing apart to check out the speakers and found the little wire that runs frome the speaker cone to the little connector board had a loose connection on the back of the board.. If I messed with the connector tabs I could get it to work.. They shoulda named these Pyles of sh*t... I hooked the wires directly to the cone wires and put it back together.. they worked... most of the time. Fast Forward 5 weeks .. Lancaster, PA visiting the folks.. Pyles not working at all by now.. They quit before I headed north. Tried soldering the back of the connector board... No dice looked online .. found these: http://www.circuitcity.com/IMAGE/product/detail/plk/EC.PLK.DB401.CN.JPG Polk 4" Coaxial Loudspeaker (db401) PLK DB401 • 4” speaker • 2-way design • 135W peak power • Marine certified I paid $80.00 for 2... Circuit City has them for $60.00 now with the 2nd pair for 1/2 price... These speakers sound great and are much better made than the Pyles.. I highly reccommend them.. Now I need to get 2 more for the back.. the magnets are small so I think they'll fit.
  20. Has anyone ever noticed this.... If I have the CB turned on with my 2006 Midnight Venture and I hit the horn, the horn plays through the speakers and not the horn itself! Bit of a safety issue, I would think... Anyone else have this problem? Skunk328
  21. HELP,!!! I just got my radio back from my Dads house {he was repairing the mount plate cracked where the lower bar goes accross} and plugged it into the dash and it lights up goes to correct stations but very little sound comes out of the speakers! have to have it up full blast to hear anything out of the speakers. Leaving for SD,BLack hills ride this friday at 1pm. any Ideas on tunes?
  22. Quick question, when i hit my breaks the radio changes stations. I hear noise over the speakers ect.. do i need to get a filter on a line to fix that?
  23. I purchased a Yamaha (J&M) headset recently. I installed the headset in my HJC AC2M..., well I tried. When I put the speakers which barely fit into the speaker pockets they are so thick they dig into my ears and drive me crazy (crazier). I think I need to go to a 3/4 helmet in order to accomodate the speakers, but I don't want to spend that kind of money unless I know the speakers and mike will fit properly. Any suggestions on which helmet will work?
  24. Have any of you fine folks retrofitted rear speakers onto your first gen? How'd ya do it? Jeremy
  25. Just received 2 sets of the J & M ($60.00) headsets . I have already modified my shorty helmets to accept the 3/4 helmet style by cutting out some kydex plastic . Sliding the kydex like shims between the helmet liner and shell and installing the units onto them . My questions is : "Can the radio be ran either through the speakers or headset and the CB be opposite of ?" My wife does not like the CB , but likes the radio . I enjoy both and do not want to annouy her with the squalk box . I read the owners manual and it does not dicuss this topic . I tried tuning the radio through the speakers , then tune the CB through the headset , but both radio and CB either go through the same option . I know she can turn down the volume , but we both have not been on the bike at the same time to acknowledge if we can make it work . Did I make any sense ? Gene
