  1. Hey everyone. My future wife and I are planning on shipping our 86' and trailer to somewhere in the UK and from there touring Europe for a month or two. I have absolutely no idea what's involved in getting the bike and trailer over there. We live near a port city, Charleston, SC. Have any of you done this before? What issues are there with licenses and insurance and the overall legality of riding a US registered bike? What's a ballpark figure for shipping/crating? Thanks everyone!
  2. I tell you folks, I have done quite a few transactions on Ebay and for the most part, they have been very positive experiences. This last one has been a real pain though. I list an item a couple of weeks ago. Everything goes well and the winning bid was $114.00. Two days later I get a message from the buyer that she will be unable to complete the purchase because she had to take her dog to the vet and now doesn't have the money. Folks, if your money is THAT tight, you shouldn't be bidding on non-essential items on Ebay. So, I filed a non-paying bidder complaint against her with Ebay and then relisted the item. I send a second chance offer to the next bidder and he declined. I don't really blame him. I'm not usually interested in second chance offers either because they are often either bogus or else I suspect that the seller had used a friend to run up the bid in the first place. So after relisting the item, it sold again. Not for $114.00 though but this time...for $34.50. Oh well....things happen. But WAIT...I then notice that this time the winning bidder is in Mexico. I sometimes will ship internationally but for this item, was not interested in doing so and had clearing listed it as shipping ONLY to the USA. I contacted the buyer to let him know that I would not ship to Mexico. He finally decided that he would have it shipped to a friends house in Laredo, TX. I agreed to that. So...it was then 6 days before he finally paid via PayPal. This is a fairly large item and though not heavy, I knew shipping would be a bit high due to the size. I had specifed shipping as USPS First Class Mail for $27.50. I then got an email from the buyer, AFTER he had paid, instructing me to send it Priority mail because he was in a hurry for it. OK...if he was in such a hurry, why did he wait 6 days to pay? I emailed him back and told him that I had quoted $27.50 for First Class Mail and if I could ship it Priority for that price, I would but otherwise it would come First Class. That was shortly before I left for the post office and hadn't heard back from him yet. At the post office I found that First Class was going to cost $22.50 and Priority would be $34.50. I decided to try and please this guy and I shipped it Priority. So right now, I'm $7.00 in the hole on shipping. I charged nothing for packing and supplies. I just sent the guy another email and told him that per his request, I shipped it Priority and to please PayPal me an additional $7.00. What do you think the odds are that I'll ever see it? I'm guess not very good. No big deal, I can certainly live with it and am just glad that this particular transaction is over with. OH...and here is a summary of one of our email exchanges last Sunday: Me: Please understand that I am going out of town on Monday. If I do not receive payment before then, I will not be able to ship until I return. If you pay today or early tomorrow morning, I'll get it shipped before I leave. Otherwise, I will be away in which case I will not be able to ship until Friday or Saturday. Him: I plan to pay in a day or two. And no, I do not need the case.
  3. Just recieved my new lift from larry and it works great! Thank you Larry for the quick response to my questions and fast shipping. Wish I would have ordered it a long time ago!! Thanks again Larry! Colorado Bob!http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg100/ntmrobert/bikestand007.jpghttp://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg100/ntmrobert/bikestand006.jpghttp://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg100/ntmrobert/bikestand001.jpg
  4. Donate to the board what you think it's worth. I have a brand new Yamaha 2nd Gen 12" wide windshield free for the shipping cost and a donation to the board of what you think it's worth. Part#STR4XY-50-00 SELLS FOR $187.95 I figure $20.00 shipping to my pay-pal @ eros06@comcast.net Please E-mail me with your request this is a first come first serve. I received this from another board member on the same terms and I wanted a little taller so I am passing this deal to someone else on the board. Thanks Joe
  5. I recently bought a part on ebay, (Lower fairing vent Louver ),from an ebay vendor, cmstexas. The seller did not offer any shipping options other than USPS Prioity mail for $6.80 which I thought was a little expensive. But, I needed the part more than the $6.80 shipping so I bid on item anyway and won it. I paid for item and shipping via paypal and part showed up in two days very neatly packaged in a box you could have put fifty of them in. Opened the box and item is rattling around in huge box with one wrap of tiny bubble wrap, and a small piece of brown slick sided shipping paper,(But, not enough to cushion item from rattling around in box). So as soon as packaged arrived and being a dutiful E-bayer I left, as e-bay request Honest feedback which read. Positive option "Item arrived quickly and was as described but shipping expensive. " next day, today....................................... I get E-bay e-mail from this seller four paragraphs chewing me out because I complained about his shipping charge amoung other things he ranted about: "Shipping cost was clearly stated in listing" Yes it was but, seller did not offer any less expensive shipping options. I've been riding for the last 10k miles with this part missing I would not have had a problem waiting an extra day or so for cheaper shipping cost. "With the cost of packageing materials he lost money" :fiddle::fiddle: I don't doubt it shipping a 6 ounce item in a 30 pound box, I don't know what he paid for the box, roll of brown shipping paper and the bubble wrap but I use free newspaper which works just as good, I've shipped the same item with no problems in an padded envelope. for a fraction of the shipping cost. My business experience tells me that if he is losing money doing business, maybe he should rethink the way he is doing business. :Im not listening to:Im not listening to
  6. I'm moving from CT to SoCal. Anyone ever ship their Venture? I know, I know, I would rather ride it out but time constraints and other events won't allow that. If so who did you use and why? Any ones to look out for? Looking at JC Motors Motorcycle Shipping just less than a grand coast to coast. Any one know of their rep? Ideas, thoughts suggestions?
  7. I have ordered the cast Pewter Guardian bells with our VentureRider logo. I will take orders for the laser engraved black bells later if there is enough interest. The price isn't quiet as good as I had hoped and is costing me a fairly significant amount up front for the carving of a wax model and then the molds make from the model. For that reason, I am going to start taking the orders now in hopes of defraying some of that expense out of my pocket. The price will be $12.00 per bell plus $1.80 shipping per bell. For those ordering more than one bell, please add 50 cents shipping for each additional bell. So, 1 bell would be $13.80, 2 bells would be $26.30, 3 bells would be $38.80, 4 would be $51.30 and 6 bells would be...well...you get the idea. I'm sure that shipping will be more to Canada but I don't know how much. I will try to get a shipping price to Canada tomorrow. It shouldn't be too much higher. I WILL ship only USPS. PayPal will charge me 2.9%+.30 cents per order but I will absorb that. No problem. So, that's the deal. I have ordered 250 bells for this first order. If I run out, I can get the next ones quicker as the molds will already be made. Delivery time for this first order is estimated at 3 weeks. I know that some of you want to receive these as gifts and do the exchange. You can work that out and start another thread for the swaps or however you wish to do it. If you buy bells and want them sent to somebody else, just include the address where you want them sent in the "notes" section when you PayPal or with your money order if you pay that way. I'm also going to send an email to all our members in case there are those who have not seen the info on the bells. So, those of you who are willing to do so, please get your payments in starting now. You may send payment via PayPal to dnelson@axcesswave.com or by mail to: Don Nelson 16898 Hawley Road Oberlin, OH 44074 Thanks I did a lot of searching and got a lot of quotes before I proceeded with this project. To be totally honest, I could have gotten these done at a better price had I ordered them from China. I had some very good quotes from China and I'm sure that they would have been fine. The thing is though, I'm not 100% sure what they were made of. I was told "zinc alloy", "nickel plated", "pewter type process", etc. and etc. and I'm sure that any of those would have worked but just wasn't sure what we were getting. The other thing is, I really do like to deal with a USA or Canadian company if at all possible. So, I ended up paying more for these but I think I made the right decision for us. The USA manufacturer that I am dealing with is hand carving the model from clay. He will then make an epoxy or silicone mold from the wax model. From that mold he creates a sterling silver mold as the final mold. They are then cast with 100% lead free pewter.

  11. HLFTONCHRRY!!! A couple of weeks ago he offered bag liners, trunk pack and a nice owners manual to anyone for the price of shipping. I happen to be at the right place at the right time and responded. Well, I got them in the mail yesterday and I felt like it was Christmas!! When I tried to get out of him how much shipping was to keep up my end of the deal, he said not to worry about it, on account of how much this website has done for him. I sent what I thought would cover it, but just goes to show there are a lot of great people on this forum! HLFTONCHERRY....thank you again, and we expect a call when your in the area!!

    New Skins?

After reading ALOT of previous posts here, I decided to get rid of my Dunlop 404's (both sets of rears got about 7500) and am replacing with Venoms. Saw that most perfered Moto for their tires, free shipping but American Tire beat their free shipping price. Moto wanted 257.90 122.95 for the front and 134.95 for the rear. American wanted 109.60 for the front and 126.33 for the rear with 13 for shipping so saved a few bucks Will let ya kow how long they take to ship! Looking forward to trying out the Avons!

  14. I am going to need a new rear tire long before I need a front - probably about the time I get back from the Canada Rally. I normally order my tires from SW Moto Tires and get the free shipping when I buy a pair. But I only need one now, so . . . Anyone in North Texas need one or more new tires? I'd like to combine an order and get free shipping on my one. I'm not in a super hurry, but I'll order as soon as I find someone to share with. Thanx! Goose
  15. I would like to conduct an experiment on a fairing, but I don't want to damage mine, so if somebody has a damaged one (both inner and outer) that I can have for the price of shipping, I would like to receive it. Regrettably this would probably come off a wrecked bike.
  16. I have a brand new chrome Kustom Kaddy drink holder that I don't need: https://www.motoliberty.com/prod_detail.asp?Prod_ID=482 http://www.kruzerkaddy.net/products.html Paid about $40 for it (with shipping). I'll sell it for $30 plus shipping, or I can deliver it to someone at Don's maintenance day next weekend. Goose
  17. I have been using So. Seattle for parts cuz they were the cheapest... But my last shipment took over 3 weeks and included a couple of unanswered e-mails.. Their site was down yesterday and I did some poking around and heard of some grumbling that they might be in financial trouble... I don't want to start rumors here just watch out if you use them. Well I need a regulator and started shopping around and found a place that beat most by $30.00 and So. Seattle by 10... $47 for a regulator.. Well their site was messed up and wouldn't put the regulator in the shopping cart so I called them... I also was wondering about shipping.. Some vendors pad the shipping to make their cheap prices not so cheap... Well it seems they have better prices over the phone and charge less for shipping on phone orders.. I ended up paying $44.00 with shipping came out to less than So. Seattle's unshipped price. So I would suggest getting your part numbers from their website and calling the order in to their 800#. I'll let you know on shipping... they said 6-7 days. If anyone else has used them please reply to this thread. http://www.carolinacycle.com/default.asp
  18. I think posting these out of wack Ebay auctions just demonstrate how ignorant a few Ebay buyers and sellers actually are. FAIRING SHIPPING
  19. I know that most of you like to give your tire business to swmoto because of the good things they have done for us...... but I am a savy shopper.........and got a great deal $$ and super fast delivery on the rear Avon tire I bought for Dale. I ordered it Wednesday sometime around 7 pm and it arrived early this afternoon.....!! The tire was $120.99 and the shipping was free !!They did have a $5 tire fee so $125.99 to buy this same tire from swmoto would have cost me $131.95 + $14 for shipping ( since I only was ordering 1) I also looked at motox whose price was $121.99 + $15 shipping. Anyways I thought I would pass this good price info along.... http://www.denniskirk.com they are out of MN and ship same day free for orders over $100...under $100 is $6.95 shipping. with a satisfaction guarantee...you have up to 90 days for full refund or exchange
  20. I was wondering if any of you have ever had any good/bad (and with what company) experiences shipping a car. I've got to get a 1974 MGB MkIII roadster (nonrunning) shipped from Lincoln, NE to somewhere near my home. I've never had to use a shipping company before. When I bought a vehicle out of state I would either get a bus ticket and drive it home, or gas up the truck, grab the trailer, and go get it. With Diesel fuel being $4+ per gallon I'm thinking it might be cheaper and easier to just have it shipped. I'd appreciate any input any of you might have.
  21. OK, I'm posting this in the 1stGen Tech section due to it being, like the MAC Mufflers, for 1stGens only. I've traded a few emails and phone calls with the Ebay seller who has been auctioning fork braces, I need to know how many 1stGeners would be interested in doing a group buy. Here's the deal. For an order of 20 his price will be $60ea., and for an order of 40 he'll drop it to $50 per. The shipping will be in bulk to me no-charge, and then forwarded to those of us who have raised their hands. Of course there will be individual shipping and paypal charges on top of the quoted price. I estimate the paypal at $2 bucks and the shipping could be as low as $6.50 Priority depending on weight, if it qualifies, or $8.95 Flat Rate if it doesn't. The manufacturer is checking the individual weight for me. He's been shipping Flat Rate off Ebay, but I'm thinking it may go cheaper regular priority?? My question is... Would this be something that enough of us would be interested in to qualify for the 20 or 40 price,?? And I'd need to know with in the next couple of days. I don't want to stick my neck out and pre-order 20....that's $1200 bucks..., and it fall flat. I noticed on the Super Brace web site that they have the same part number for all 1stGen's, so I assume this brace will fit all years too.... So....please let me know and if there is enough interest we'll start a group buy...
  22. However, ALL the chrome was corroded, the new carbs arrived unusable [Yamaha engineer said they are at 200k miles]. It was sent to FL port running perfectly & well covered & supposedly in a crate with 2 cages in good shape? Buyer isn't happy. It left here in excellent shape. I even had to ride it to the main highway to the transport truck. Buyer made ALL shipping arrangements. These pics are 3 days after he picked it up at the harbor. Something went REAL wrong. The #2 cylinder wouldn't fire & the 98% bike arrived as nearly junk. Any Ideas?
  23. Can't say that I'm much impressed with the shipping procedures of Yamaha Sports Plaza in WA. Ordered Side trunk rails and footpegs on 25 Feb., They emailed confirmation the next day citing a delivery date of 5-10 March. Evening of 10 March I called them to ask about shipment. WELL, as it turns out, they had to order the pegs from another dealer and had not yet received them so therefore had not shipped anything. They did promise to ship the rails ASAP then ship the pegs when they come in. The original charge for shipping was $18.00. It will be interesting to see if I get billed more for what now will be 2 shipments. I suggested to the guy on the phone that they re-evaluate their shipment notification procedures, and let him know that I was not happy with the whole transaction . In the interest of customer satisfaction and dealer reputation, I would think that most dealers in a case like this would expedite the shipment of the items (overnight/1-2day) and not charge the added shipping costs. We shall see. It is now afternoon of the 12th and I haven't received squat . At the same time I placed that order I made orders with CalifSportTouring, Custom Dynamics and Cruiser Customizing. All those orders were at my door within 4 days . So much for my venting,,, How was your day?
  24. I have a used but in good condition rubber gas tank bib that I took off of my 2003 RSMV, free to the first person who PM's me. The cost of shipping, however, please be kind and make a donation to VentureRider.org. Thanks, Joopster
  25. Since I finally got out to try my new headset, I'm convinced I no longer need the hand held Mic I have been using. Several folks have mentioned they want one, so I just decided to set it up on Auction, Starting Bid $25.00, 15 day Auction. I need to go back and add some pictures and the $10.00 for shipping in the continental US. If you are from Canada we will work something out. Happy Bidding Jay
