  1. I have 87k on a 06 RSTD, I do a lot of riding.. Also I pull a trailer and ride double. I am having some high speed slipping of the clutch, but it still pulls well. Should I change or not.. If so should I go with OMG or upgrade?? Also should I order the Disk and spring as a set or separate. Aint this fun. I think this is one ov the best sites for these bikes for information and to learn a few tips .
  2. Ok bryan!! It's safe to come out and ride again!! Cherie's bike (lucyII) is complete again after the de-blinging at the leaflooker ride. Dang!! She wouldn't let me sleep untill it was done!! And ken is getting his set next sunday...sure hope we can ride to meet him and vicky for dinner.
  4. My Venture '86 Royale cruise control is acting up. While on the highway I set it on and five seconds later it disengages itself. Any suggestions?
  5. I have a strange question here, does anyone have a set of the driving light brackets that I made that they didn't install on their bike? I would like to try and get a set back if someone has a set laying around that they didn't use, please send me a PM if you have a set and want to get rid of them....Thanks
  6. Royalstar Midnight Venture / 2002 / wiring a trailer to the bike. I made the trailer ball the ground because the trailer only came with a four pin wire set up. any suggestions for a better job?
  7. Recently I noticed one of my head gaskets was leaking a little oil, as it wasn't a lot I continued my planned tour of Nova Scotia while the dealer ordered a set of gaskets (july 1st). I gave the bike to the dealer July 19th, after the usual two rounds of it isn't ready yet, I ordered the wrong gasket set, they gave me the bike back one month to the date after I brought it in. On starting the bike I noticed the Idle was set a little high and could see the windshield visibly shake(never did b4) the exhaust was a little louder than normal and I think I could hear a slight leak. Once I got it out on the road the bike would vibrate, stutter and buck like I was in a too high gear, I can't even acelerate from 5th gear on level ground driving 40mph without downshifting to 3rd. pulled into my driveway and my nieghbor said what happened to your bike it sounds like crap ( he rides a Harley). Took the bike back to the dealer left it another week, returned to be told the shaking and noise was due to a bad rear tire.( admittedly I do need the tires replaced) Remember the bike shakes at idle. if I get the bike rolling downhill at 50mph shift to neutral the bike coasts like it was on carpet. Restart the engine and the shaking starts. This is my thrid Venture so I am pretty sure I know when it is right and when it is wrong. So now what are my options , is there a national Yamaha rep group to escalate service issues? Al
  8. 85 and 86 brake pads not the same??? Thought I had set on hand but got to thinking. They won't fit 86. The 83 thru 85s are the same. Changes in 86. I better be grabbing a set. I've been using the brakes on "Brown Sugar" R1 Pads are the same? I have a used set so I'm good for emergencies. Or just quit using brake so much... What do you need to get for winter??? Oh yeah garage is on that list somewhere...
  9. I'm familiar with the Race Tech Imulators, but ran across this info on another board, and found it very interersting. Anyone here gone this route?? I'm thinking the Ricor Valve, plus the ease of installation, along with a set of Progressives just might be a great way to go. They are pricy but not much different from the Race Tech's..
  10. When should a carb tune be done? (after how many miles) or do you wait till something doesn't seem right? Is there a set schedule to do this?
  11. Won a set of L.A. chopper mufflers for my 08 RSTD hope they sound good. Does anyone have a set on there ride and how do you like them? Joe
  12. I ran Dark Side on my VTX1300 and really liked it. Found a BFGoodrich Radial T/A 155/80R15. Mounted it. While working on that I also found a set of Road King mufflers. Just finsihed putting them on tonight.. Looks and sounds great.... Road test tomorrow....
  13. Hello everyone. I'm rolling a 96 RSTC and have started the process of making it mine. I have already picked up a set of Jardine forward controls from a fellow member gunkylump. Next on the list of parts is I'm looking for a set of 2-2-1s (or 4-2-2s depending on how you look at it). I believe the 97 RSTD came with these stock but the closet set I can find is from a 2001 RS Venture. Can anyone answer the question on if these would be a fit or not. I saw a previous thread, from 2009, where pegscraper said the 2-2-1s should bolt right on but I am wondering if anyone has done this and has any lessons learned. Also, if anyone has a set that they are looking to sell, let me know and maybe we can strike a deal. Thanks.
  14. I am looking for a set of stock mufflers for a 2000 RSV. Does anyone have a set they could part with? And, am I correct in assuming that any year from 1998 forward would fit my 2000? Thanks, dana
  15. Ok ok I know its early, but I like to plan ahead... Whos up for tryng to set up a Wis Maintenance day for the spring??????
  16. Getting ready for our first long distance trip to Tenn. in 3 weeks have read a lot of threads on tires an choices. V7 Goose has a bunch But anyway checked my tires on my new to me RSV still have good tread but front is Dunlop 404 an rear a Bridgestone something both have a date code of 09. The more i read the less uncomfortable I am with this set up been running zero air 2up since i have had. Thanks to info here I kinda know where to start on the air issue. One problem I thought was all me was a lil wallowing in the turns especially long sweepers cant seem to hold a continues line all the way through will out constant correction If i understand what I've read the air suspension an tires are the culprit an yes i check tire pressure an set according to owners Manuel. So now to my Question is combo. safe an will a new set of tires make me a better rider. I know a better gun won't make someone a better shot but can let them shoot up to there ability.
  17. Good day. I just got my '86 back on the road after some major carb transplantation. I had 2 carbs with hopelessly seized low speed jets so I got a set of 4 from thirdbike and frankensteined a set out of the 8. The floats were perfect and as it turns out, the needles he sent were different than mine...with a longer and shallower taper. They were also set to their max rich setting. I put on some new diaphragms on the best of the slides, left it at max rich and bolted it back together. Holy crap...what a bunch of nasty noises when I started it up...I did a balance, set the low speed jets by ear and now it's running better ever. With the needles set rich, I don't have the bogging with the filter out anymore since more gas needs more air. Some previous owner had drilled some holes in the air box lid and then covered them up with tape...I took off the tape and no bogging. I was planning on trying this experiment for some time and this was a good opportunity. The bike has more power than before, smooth from idle to redline, no dead spots, no more popping at idle, leaner at idle, (less raw gas stank), and I don't even need the choke anymore when it's cold. Basically it goes like a scalded rabbit. I could probably lean it out for a bit but instead, I'm going to try supply even more air and put that extra gas to good use. I'm getting about 32 mpg, (us gallons), but it runs so damned good that I think I'd rather eat the couple of extra bucks than chance screwing with the goodness of the engine. I added a couple of huge wind deflectors to the fairing so that will have dropped the mileage a bit. Someday I maybe even change the plugs. So if your bike is running somewhat rich, maybe try giving the engine more air as a first resort...it working great for me.
  18. I found a decent set of saddle bag side rail guards for my bike. But there is no bolts and spacers to attach them to the bike. Sooooo, does anyone have a set of the attaching bolts and spacers to sell ? Or a total set of the bars and necessary hardware to attach. These rails that I have found have the reflectors on them. But I am reluctant to buy them with out knowing about the needed hardware to attach. The price seems reasonable. Fuzzy
  19. Will a set off a 2005 RSV fit my 2007 RSTD ? I think they will from what I have seen, but not sure yet .... Thanks, Fuzzy
  20. I would like a set of new cables. Are any available here?
  21. Good morning everyone. I've made a couple of changes to my 06 RSTD. I installed a set of RK exhaust that are drilled out on both ends (see through) and a set of K&N filters. After the installation of RK exhaust I started experiencing popping on decel when going from 4th down to 3rd and 3rd down to 2nd. After I installed the filters the exhaust seems a bit louder (the sound is perfect - not too loud but it sounds really nice on accelleration) and the popping does too. So, now that I've made those enhancements I want to rejet with bigger jets. My questions are: 1. Where and what jets should I buy? 2. Would rejetting take care of my popping issue? 3. Is there a step-by-step somewhere so I can do the install myself or would I be better off to take it to my Stealer considering my mechanical abilities are less that perfect? I've already stuck more money into the bike than I wanted too this year so any do-it-myself work would be acceptable. I just don't know if replacing the jets is something I should tackle. Thoughts, feelings, comments everyone? Thanks, Les
  22. Just wanted to say Thank You to all of you on here who recommended the E3 tires. Just replaced the original 404 tires with a set of E3's and WOW what a difference no squirrelly feeling on rough pavement or tar snakes or even road cracks. Top heavy feeling is gone! Anyway thanks everyone. Anyone still running the 404's try E3's when you wear your 404's out. You will not be sorry. By the way they were only $40 more than a new set of 404's! Ken!

It,s About time for new tires I got 14,000 on the set that came with the bike new .. Is there any good sugestion out there? Need a set that will go the distance. Any one out there willing to suggest a good brand Ron:cool10:
  24. I want to change out my bars on my 07 RSV. I want to bring them back about 1 1/2" - 2". Who has done this and what brand and model number would I use? I bought a set of 1.5" risers off of ebay, nice product, they moved the bars back perfectly except the caps hit the ignition cover at full lock to the point it would crack the cover. So I sent them back and now want to find a longer set of bars. Any info?
  25. When I put the Barons risers on I had to reroute my throttle cables. while doing so I had to disassemble the part where all the cables come together on the left side behind the neck cover, 5 in all,( 2 in, 2 out and the cable coming up from the cruise servo). When I opened the housing that little clockspring popped out before I could see how tight it's wound . Put it back together with 1 turn on it and now my cruise control won't set. All the dash lights say it's working but it doesn't hold the throttle. Any advice from the RSV tech gods would be awesome. My 1550 mile ride last weekend would have been much more enjoyable with a working cruise control.
