Cold and rainy yesterday, Pam said let's hang here and do the mods you been wanting do so we installed a garage door opener took the seat off on the right side just above the battery mounted the control with 2 sided tape and with some cat-5 wire reason we use that it is low voltage and we got plenty of it then we put the button on the left side right under the seat in the plastic shield , the only tricky part was get the wires solder to the control. Now I don't have to fumble for it coming up to the door. Then we installed a 12v power supply on the left side rear where the cap is that was easy enough. Change the plugs at almost 30k miles on them that was a joke they looked brand new but I had the plugs figure do it now since I was I was that far into it.. I'm thankful Pam is 5' tall makes it for the short tight places for us, being 6'4 can be a pain twisting around.. I will have to say the garage door opener is the best mod I've done in awhile

Wondering if I should get a new seat...Since I've only had my '06 RSV for a few weeks, I'm still slowly going over it and "fixing" it up. I had the driver seat off the other day and noticed 2 things. 1) there is a small (less than an inch) rip or cut in the side of the seat (can't really see it unless you are looking). 2) one of the 2 bolts that hold the seat on is missing. PO had used a sheetrock screw to hold that side on... I'm going to be sending the seat in to the member on this site that does the seat mods for lowering/narrowing anyway...so I'm not sure if the bolt can be fixed at that time or if the rip will prevent the cover from being restretched...Been spending money already getting a few "extras" for the bike so hate have to buy a new seat if I don't need to. Anyone got a stock seat collecting dust they need to get rid of? Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah, You guessed it.....Linda and I are leaving for a long ride. We are taking a group on a trip to Northern California for 3 weeks and won't be back home until Sept 18th. So the set of seats that Dave Van Curler is sending me, will be the last ones that I'll have time to rework before I leave out Sept 1st. So if any of you want me to rework a seat (s), you will have to wait until after Sept 18th. This is usually the slow time of the year for my seat work, but you would have thought that I was having a sale on RSTD seats, where I've reworked 4 sets in the last week or so, not to mention a few pillow tops and a Vulkin? So I'll let you know when I'm back, Rick

Just a Sportster, bike for around town, a bit of commuting and short solo rides. Kept the Venture!! I'm going to have to do something about that rock hard stock seat though.

marinakorp posted a topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Well the lates in my aging royal star woes... it refuses to start. Key in ignition, lights go on...seems good... Hit starter... sounds like a swarm of bees below and in front of the seat. removed seat, repeat procedure... still sounds just in front of the battery compartment... like a old school joy buzzer... put a b attery assis on it, and still the same sound...don't thins it is the battery. could the starter have gone bad... how hard ($$) to fix? internet diagnosis assistance please! -
Went for a ride this morning and my CB will not turn on. Radio worked fine. CB has been working fine until this morning. Tried a search on here, but the words CB and on are too short to use as keywords...:-) I did recently have the seat off to install an Ultimate backrest. I'm not sure where the CB is, but there are wires that run along the top of the rear fender under the seat. Did I mess something up with them? Open for ideas on what to start checking. Scott....

After a 800 round trip, by the end, I had terrible pain in my sitz bones. Before the trip, I had experienced the same pain while riding on 100 mile trips. As an effort, I have modified the stock pillow top seat by removing the soft foam and carving the harder foam to better fit. Also I used an airhawk pad on the trip. But both of these "solutions" have not helped. Any other suggestions, would greatly be appreciated.

I have ridden 2400 miles so far in the last week and the reworked seat is great! I didn't think ihat I had any real issues with the seat before but apparently I just didn't know what the thing was supposed to feel like. I have had zero butt or back pain since we left home! One thing I found out this morning though is that if the bike is parked outside overnight in 28 degree temps, it takes about ten minutes for the seat to warm up and get soft again. I am 100% satisfied with this mod and would recommend it to anyone with the pillowtop seats.

Has any of you had made or know of anyone who has experienced a Russell Daylong Seat. They are custom made seats according to your size and weight. I`m 330 lbs and there is to much of me for the stock seat and the horn of the seat is a little uncomfortable. Height is not a problem as I have a passenger " Pro Pad " on the driverseat with a black sheepskin covering that. Would like to get rid of all that and find a good custom seat. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Aftermarket seat for 87 Venture
Guest posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Having trouble finding the 1st gen parts place to list a seat. I have an 87 aftermarket seat from my venture which is in pretty decent shape. Vinyl and felt, reddish brown color, with a back rest. Let me know either the right place to list it or if you have any interest in it. Thanks, Woody- 2 replies

Well I had a great ride to here. Picked my wife up at the airport then later went out to pick up some things at walmart. Came back out and it was taken off my seat. Yup an easy mark I never locked it up. I'll be shopping tomorrow after checking out some pawn shops. Themselves the breaks. At least I didn't lose the bike

Enroute to PIP and ...DOH! I forgot that I don't have my drivers seat tightened. Well, you can guess what happened. It's somewhere along hy 37 in Iowa! Looked, but no luck. At a rest stop now with free WiFi! Woo hoo! Any chance there is a spare 2nd gen seat on it's way to PIP? I have a couple seat pads that I can use, Dee says Thank God it was my seat and not hers LOL. See you all there Thursday or Friday!

Got brave today and removed the side panels, tank cover, and seat. When I removed the seat, found this plug on the left side of the bike. Any idea what it is for? Thanks in advance, Don

I used to have one of those wooden-bead seat covers that was made for a cage seat, that I had trimmed down to fit my 83 venture years ago. After several years use, it finally fell apart. I've been remembering how comfy that thing was and was thinking about making another one. Today while in Wallyworld, I spotted one for $8.97 and bought it. This one is shaped a little different from the other one I had and it fit my venture seat right out of the bag without having to do a thing to it but weave 4 bungee cords through it to hold it to the seat. I did some riding on it this afternoon and it's sure more comfortable than the stock seat by itself, and yes, there is definitely a noticeable cool and steady flow of air down-under. It was cooler than usual here today and the cool flow of air underneath got downright chilly. It's not the most attractive seat cover on a bike but for 8 bucks, it does one heck of a job.

Hello All, We purchased our 2008 Royal Star Venture 2 weeks ago and have enjoyed our first few rides very much. However, I'm considering modifying or replacing the driver's seat. I'd like to sit higher and further back as I am quite tall (6'8"). I'm not as concerned about seat height above ground, as I am about the distance from my bum to the floorboards. My knees currently form about a 90 degree angle. Also, I find the front part of the seat that goes up and over the tank is uncomfortable. I would appreciate any suggestions for how to modify, raise, or replace the driver's seat. My wife is fine with the passenger seat. Thanks, allanj42

Well I got a line on a one piece seat for my RSTD I plan on installing an air ride driver and passenger seat, also a passenger air ride backrest and trunk. With som mod's I think everything will work out and hope to be the first to adjust the air ride seat on the FLY. What do you all think of my idea???????????? :happy34: Joe star4772

Has anyone ordered a seat cover from B and H Specialties (http://www.motorcycleseatcovers.com/index.htm). Their prices are good but just wondering if anyone has experience with them and if so are you happy with the replacement cover. The seat on my 85 venture has the stickies and I want to get it replaced. A local guy wants $400.00 to recover the seat and backrest. B and H Specialties would be about $176.00 for both. What are your thoughts?
