    pulling U joint out

okay what is the quickest way to jerk this U joint out on the 86's which is located under the rubber boot on the forend of the drive shaft?
  2. I changed out my stock air filters today with K&N's. When I took off the right side (looking at bike from front I found about 1/2 teaspoon of oil in rubber hose leading to filter case. Is this normal or should I be looking for dealer? Thanks, Ride safe and God Bless. Mike
  3. I have a flat garage roof and 8 years ago I had the tar and gravel surface replaced by a rolled rubber roof with a granular surface. The roof just started leaking along one of the seams, maybe a 3' length. I have read that just coating the area with tar will eventually deterioriate the rubber roof itself. Other than calling in a roofer, is there anything that I could do to stop the leak myself? :mo money:
  4. Hello everyone, I removed the plastic chrome trim right below the windshield. The rubber trim pieces on the top and bottom of the trim were barely attached. What should I use to glue the rubber back to the trim piece? I was thinking clear silicone? Any suggestions? Thanks, Eric
  5. Greetings oh knowledgeable ones... I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not the Fender ornament on my 99 RSV is a Yamaha ornament. More importantly, does anyone know where I can get a replacement rubber base for it? The one on this ornament is rotting and cracked. Thanks in advance!
  6. I UNCOVERED MY RIDE TODAY IN HOPE THAT BY CLEANING AND WAXING IT UP ,I COULD FORCE BETTER WEATHER HERE IN NEW YORK.. WHEN I SAT DOWN I HEARD THIS AWFUL SQUEEK UNDER ME..SOUNDS LIKE RUBBER AGAINST RUBBER. I CHECKED THE AIR IN THE REAR SHOCK AND FOUND 0 PSI. I THEN TRIED TO REPLACE THE AIR BUT IT JUST LEAKS OUT. WONT HOLD ANY..IT WILL HOLD FOR A MINUTE THEN ITS GONE...BEING THAT IM 35 MILES FROM MY DEALER ,IM WONDERING IF ITS SAVE TO RIDE IT THERE WHEN IT WARMS UP..ANY ONE EVER HAD THIS HAPPEN?
  7. I have been looking at the new members list for about a year now and have not seen anyone listed in the Marietta, Ohio or the Parkersburg, WV area, as a matter of fact I don't see many of the of the big Yamaha's around here. If there is a member out there that rides this area send me an e mail, sgroves1@roadrunner.com .............. Keep the Sunny Side up and the Rubber Side Down............
  8. I have a used but in good condition rubber gas tank bib that I took off of my 2003 RSMV, free to the first person who PM's me. The cost of shipping, however, please be kind and make a donation to VentureRider.org. Thanks, Joopster
  9. Anybody replaced just the rubber diaphragm on a first gen carb. I have a set of parts carbs and one of the plastic slides/tube has been crushed. From the looks of it the rubber is still fresh. I'm curious if the rubber can be taken off and used on another slide without distroying it???
  10. I am kind of new to the motorcycle scene. I have worked with cars since I was a kid. I purchased a totaly perfect '86 Venture last summer. As I use it regular I desided to change plugs and oil over the christmas break. Then wile out riding last week it started to back fire when I get off the gas and some times when I am warming it up it will pop slightly. Have I got a plug loose.... what a bear to change plugs on..... ? Have I disturbed something...... a carb rubber? The local shops just shake thier heads and say live with it or scrap it. any recommendations from other riders would be helpful Kevin Victoria BC Canada
  11. I have some lights that I am thinking of mounting on the front of the fairing as passing lights I really don't like the look of the bar for a passing light set up and don't want to mount of the deflectors or forks if I can avoid it. I am thinking of doing the following Mounting about 6 to 8 inches outside of headlight centered on the center horizontal plane of the headlight. Drilling necessary hole in fairing with rubber grommet for the hole. Making a small (about 2" x 2") metal plate with matching rubber plate side drilling hole in plates slightly smaller than hole in fairing. Mounting bolt for light through fairing, rubber plate, metal plate, lock washer and nut. Taping into the headlight wiring Thoughts, suggestions, hints cautions???
  12. what is the procedure for installing the barons handlebar extensions? I removed handlebars does not seem to be enough play in cables to put extensions in. Also do i leave the rubber spacers that that rest against fairing in?
  13. Hi. What brand of heated grips have y'all used? I've used Hot Grips and they are good, but after a few years the rubber started wearing out and now the wires are showing and the rubber is sticky, and I need a new $100 set of grips. Maybe that's just what happens with rubber. Is there anything else out there? Anything that had a cheaper replacable cover? Thanks, Jeremy
  14. Has anyone fixed the plastic pins for the side panel the push pins things that go into the rubber grommet and how did you do it?
  15. I JUST RECEIVED THE OVER SIZE MIRRORS FOR THE RSV FROM E-BAY ITEM NUMBER IS 320163805535 THEY ARE VERY CHEAP,CHEAP,CHEAP I THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE NICE BUT THEY ARE MADE OF PLASTIC AND THE MIRROR IS CUT SMALL AND YOU CAN SEE THE EDGE UNDER WHERE IT IS MOUNTED UNDER THE RUBBER AND LOOKS LIKE IT IS SPIDERED AROUND THE EDGES. THIS WAS MY 2 CENTS ABOUT THEM, YOU DECIDE. STAR4772 JOE THE SAYING GOES YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. THIS IS WHAT I SENT THEM: Dear thecycleking,I had just received my mirrors and I must say I am very dissappointed in them. The reason why is because they are plastic and not metal and also the workmanship is bad. You can see the edge of the mirror under rubber mounting and it looks bad. I dont know if I got a bad set or this is the way they are but I am not happy. My question is what can we do about this. I dont feel I should be charged a 20% restocking fee for a bad product. Please advise. Thanks Joe
  16. I knew that i needed a new back tire and it should have been here last week but somehow over night shipping turned into 5 days, enough about that. Like i said, i knew the tire was slick. I looked at it every day to make sure it was still just slick and not worse. The problem is that with the bumper and all the trim, it is difficult to see the tire without a close inspection. I could only see about 6 inches of the tread through this hole that is suppose to have a rubber insert in it. Everytime i looked at it, I saw a slick tire; but it still had rubber there. Well, I got my new tire in finally. Tuesday. When i looked at the tire I saw what you see in the picture. It is only half of the tire. the other half still has rubber and is what i was looking at. I had just ridden this home, about a 25 mile trip, Making about 70 MPH on Hwy 49. And it was hot...............All i can say is thank you Jesus!!! They say He watches over Old Folks and fools. I guess that means i got double protection. Now, go look at your back tire, and look at it good. BTW, The other picture is how i got the tire off. With all the dress items it is almost impossible to get the tire out from under the bike with it just on the center stand. This time i put the kick stand down on a 2x4 and set me floor jack under the pivot point of the center stand. This allowed me to raise and tilt the bike allowing easier removal of the tire. It worked almost flawlessly. The jack should have been placed further back though. It was almost at the balance point. When i put the tire back on, the bike almost tilted back and it tried to spin aroung at the same time.
  17. Just received the Kuryakyn Shift Peg covers and am having a bear of a time trying to remove the OEM rubber covers from the shifter. On my other bikes I was able to muscle it off over the end of the shift peg without cutting (or otherwise damaging) the OEM rubber. Anybody have the Kury shift peg covers installed? How did you get the OEM rubber off? Did you have to cut them off? I don't want to reinvent the wheel here; I'm sure somebody out there knows the trick and will share it here. Thanks!
  18. Does anyone know if the rubber on the passenger floorboard is removable? Want to remove to get the floorboard back plate chromed, then reinstall the rubber.
  19. Well that little piece of plastic that the rubber do dad attatches to actually bent on my bike. Lost one of those rubber grommets also. :doh:Anyone know if i can use pvc or cpvc glue on the inside of the cover. Im concerned that it may melt the plastic.I have one crack to repair and i can probably rig up somthing to act as a tab. Or can i get by and ride without the rubber thing. If ya got a spare grommet drop me a line.
  20. SWR meters are harder to find than hens teeth around here. I finally had to pay premium price from Radioshack. When I set it up with my scoot, I got >3, so I took the rubber cap off and shaved 1/4th inch off the end of the antenna whip. Funny, it just looked like nothing but fiberglass, but when I checked it, it measured 3 again. It seemed so krazy that I did it over and over again, so I started cutting off the rubber cap and the measurement came down - not by much but at least
  21. Hey Guys & Gals, I need to remove and reinstall my left Kuryakyn grip. What is the best way to do this? I have got it to twist some, but it looks like it is pulling the rubber away from the grip. Thanks for any help.
