I searched the site for cruise issues, but didn't find something quite like this. I rode my '06 RSTD for hundreds of miles in the rain recently. Once, it simply disengaged the cruise on it's own. No bumps, or anything. It would not re-engage. I turned it off and on several times, but nothing. I figured the rain had caused a short. However, an hour later I tried it and the cruise worked as normal. Yesterday, I rode in perfect hot sunshine and it happened again. I was on the interstate, no vehicles around, right hand in my lap, feet on the highway pegs. Other posts suggested that the brake or something was brushed, but I was definitely far away from the controls (excepting the clutch). I was on a great road and the cruise simply disengaged. As before, the ON light remained illuminated as if it was working properly. With my previous experience, I turned it off, waited 15 minutes and tried again. It did work. Then, a bit later, it disengaged again, this time on a curve. Another turn off and wait, then it worked again with no further problems. I saw in one or two first gen posts that the cruise is attached somehow to the vacuum system. I don't know if this is the case on second gen bikes, but I do know that a cracked hose and/or cap is a suspect in my recent backfiring issue. Could this be related? Other ideas? Dave

Good Morning. Was looking for some advice/experience on this. I'm in the process of trading up from an RSTD to a Venture. Test rode the Venture on Sat. What an amazing ride! Wife is Very happy with this bike. Seemed like there was much less wind on me while riding the Venture vs RSTD (clearly due to the full fairing). My concern is that in hot/humid weather it may be too hot/not enough breeze to ride. Any thoughts/experiences from the fellow Venture riders out there? One of the things I love about the RSTD is that is stays cool even in humid August 90+ degrees days. I do have a tendency towards heatstroke (not good on a bike, nor a good quality for a biker...) so I have to keep an eye on this stuff. Also, I noticed in Yamaha's accessories book, a Tinted Lower Wind Vent that is supposed to direct air into the engine/leg area. Anyone have any experience with these? Any thoughts/advice is greatly appreciated ! Thanks! Bob

Anyone do a permanent mount for a power socket using the auxiliary connection under the seat on the RSTD? Would like to mount close to the seat using a bracket. Any suggestions appreciated!

So I was trying to come up with a plan to mount flags onto my RSTD for PGR rides and for whenever the mood stuck me. Since I ride one up and don't have a passenger backrest, I came up with this idea for putting some flags up while I ride. I basically came up with a plan to make a bracket that took the place of the passenger pillion. Not something for the interstate mind you, but it works great in town and turns a lot of heads. Just a few pics here, but there are more in my profile album if you are interested. Love being able to fly old glory with pride.

Does anyone know if there is an LED Brake Light kit for the RSTD? I want to switch out the entire brake light assembly, and have a full LED kit. I find the LED lights on other bike just amazing. And it seems like a safety issue as well. Is there an aftermarket kit available that does not require extensive re-wiring? Any help most appreciated. Sonny

Has anyone found a good tank bag/large bib with a map pocket (clear plastic cover) on top. For an RSTD. I'm avoiding getting a GPS, which probably says I'm old fashioned.

I have a '07 RSTD and I want to increase the safety for my daughter when she rides with me. I like the grab handles on the RSV, however the back of the handles mount under the trunk, which the RSTD doesn't have. Is there a similar handle set that mount only to the chrome fender strips available for the RSTD?

How is the 05+ RSTD windshield in terms of wind protection and buffeting? I had a Kaw Nomad that had good protection but buffeted terribly unless oversized lowers were installed.

I have just designed the detachable tour pak my RSTD and was wondering if anyone knows if the 'front mounting hardware which attaches the stock back rest on my RSTD is also present on the Venture bike. also there is a thread hole on the chromed fender brackets which has chromed caps pushed into the treads, are these also present on RSV. i'm trying to figure out if my pak will work on RSV?

I have removed the trunk on my 03 RSMV. Now I want to put a backrest/luggage rack on for trips. I know, why didn't I just leave the trunk on. Well, I'm 5'7" and 145# and have put 57K miles on this beast mostly 2 up. The wife has her own now, and since she doesn't ride with me I decided to see what it felt like without the added "top" weight. Totally changed the way it handles. Love it even more. Now to the real question. Will the removable backrest and luggage rack for the newer RSTD's bolt right up on the 03 RSV? There are several holes in the fender strut and some of them were not used with the trunk rack. I'm thinking the RSTD fender/strut is probably the same as the RSV. Can anyone confirm this before I go out and blow a bunch of money on a part that won't fit?

No doubt this has been hashed over more than a few times, yet in searching through threads I am not really finding the answer to my question. So here it is. I have a 05 RSTD have been running stock tire Bridgstone Excedra and getting less then six thousand miles on the rear. So now it is time once again to replace last seasons rear tire. I have seen folks using the Venom, and the E 3. The specified tire size is 150/90 HR 15. Can not seem to find the Elite 3 in that size. So then what tires are other RSTD riders using and are they HR rated, how are your tires working out mileage wise during longer trips etc. We do pull a small trailer as well, over pretty much all road conditions, including an occasional dirt stretch.

Hello everyone, I am new here. My name is Amy, and I own a 2007 RSTD, and my hubby (Jerry) owns a 2008 RSTD. I am only 5'1" and hubby is 6'7". I need to lower my bike. I have already lowered my rear end, and am going to be lowering my front. I need to know if there is any new side stands I can order or if I need to have mine modified. Also if I need to modify how much should be taken off? I would appreciate any help I can get. Thank you. Amy

I am looking for a touring bag for my RSTD. It's hard to tell very much from the small pictures in ads and I haven't had any experience with them. From what I see, some of them mount over the backrest and sit on the passenger seat while others seem to strap to the back side of the backrest. I think I would prefer one that will strap securely to the back or fit either way. It doesn't have to be leather, cordura fabric would be OK but I am not interested in spending $400 on one. Would also prefer one with some type of inner frame to keep it's shape. I have seen a couple of the Saddleman bags that I might like, but I would like some feedback from folks who have had different ones and what you think about them. I have run a seach on the forum, but some of the older links no longer work. I may be asking too much, but hey, if you don't ask ........ Thanks, Jeff

I have a '99 RSV - I may be purchasing my 2nd bike which is a 2006 RSTD - it has 300 Miles and from what I gathered is in excellent condition - show room brand new. My question is - for those of you who may have ridden an RSV AND a RSTD, what can ya tell me is the difference in the ride and handling? Any insights to the RSTD I should be aware of? This is going to be my "play" bike - fixin it up, louder exhaust, more chrome, tweakin it if ya know what I mean!

So I'm trying to get up to speed on the technical aspects of my soon to be acquired 08 RSTD. I saw a post where someone mentioned that there was a change to the gearing (I presume for both RSV and RSTD) to eliminate gear whining. I looked around here and on the Star Motorcycles (Yamaha) site, but can't find anything about year-year changes, other than paint. Where might this be? Or do I need to buy some mechanic a 6-pack ?

Hi friends has anyone changed the driver and passenger seats on a RSTD to the RSV seats? Snowing like hell here by the way; yesterday it was 76 degrees out. Damn maybe this weekend I can get out my 09 RSTD. Wyoming Tom
