  1. PBJ

    new project.

Well the new Lady (Terri) has been riding with me for over a year and has expressed an interest to looking into riding her own bike. I was looking for a small bike because the Little Lady really is little. 5ft. exactly. We looked at Rebel's and 250 virago's when my sister told me she didn't want her rebel anymore because it was just too small for her. ( she's 6ft.) So we settled on a price and I brought her home. The poor little thing has been sitting under a tarp for years lonely and very neglected. Rust was everywhere and Its taking a can of Neverdull and wet sanding the cases to get it semi shiny again. so here's a before picture. After i get her cleaned up I'll post an after shot. PS. The name on the side says, "Hardley"
  2. Small turnout but a fun day, good food and great riding, a little hot, but as long as we were riding it was pretty nice............Had a special guest, he is in the last picture......a couple of bikes left early so they missed our special guest.....................
  3. I got a private post from Brian (Golf&Venture) today. He is doing better. He is able to function fairly well on his own, but tires easily, as would be expected. After such a severe accident, and all the broken bones he has, it will take quite awhile. He says he is doing very good on all of his physical therapy. His '91 VR is toast...totaled out. It was a nice looking bike...emphasis on...was. He also has an '89 VR that he was in the process of working on, and then decided to buy the '91 VR. His riding aspirations are a lot in the dump right now, and there are considerations of giving up riding. It is an individual choice, given what he has gone through. He has a wife, daughter, grandkids...to think about. Let's all keep Brian in our thoughts, and hope he returns to 100%, if possible, and gets back to riding if he can, and if he chooses to.
  4. July 28th myself and the wife are headed to new glarus to check out the brewery for the the wifes b-day then to cave of the mounds and last stop at wallersheim winery in Praire du sac and spending the night in that area. I know there is some nice riding in that area along the wisconsin river.Anyone interested in maybe joining or have suggestions on a really good ride in that area or something that we should realy see when in that area?
  5. Thinking about taking off tomorrow and just riding all weekend, however Mr. Weather Man is saying it's going to top 100 degrees even in the mountains. Have not rode in 100 degree temps since last summer so I ask is anyone else planning on riding this weekend in the heat or is everyone going to just chill out indoors?
  6. Riding up to Myrtle Beach this morning (I hate riding in Myrtle Beach) and saw a couple on a silver and purple 99 right where Bus 17 and 17 Split at 11:00 am I don't think they saw me but I waved.
  7. The cruise on my 99 RSV kicks out on hills and more easily riding 2 up. It did not work when I bought the bike and I have been through all the switches and diagnostics and found a carb cable out of adjustment a long way. My real feeling now is that I still have an adjustment issue and wondered if anyone felt that I have things too tight or not tight enough on adjustment tolerances. It seems that the cc can't respond fast enough and kicks out because of not holding speed up or down hills. On flats it's fine riding solo is fine also even in some small hills. Thanks for your thoughts.
  8. Teaching my Grand Princess to enjoy riding..... ....anything with two wheels...
  9. Sacramento is hitting a heat waive around 105 this weekend. So I would like to know how to cloth under garments properly in this type of heat. Since I'm coming into that area. First of all I leaned the acro ATGATT for riding in extreme heat. But what about under garment. In more reasonable riding temp from 70s to 80s, under my Tour Master Transition Jacket with zipper air pockets and my Tour Master Air Pants, I wear a T-shirt and long jeans, so when I reach my destination I just remove my riding gear. So when one is riding long distance and gets caught in a heat wave of like 100 + degrees what would be best to combat the heat. 1) Keep the Jeans and T-shirt on. 2) How about Shorts and a T-shirt. 3) How about a specility item. The thinest, undergarment that has excellect moisture wicking properties. If 3 is the best recommendation then, being that your entire body is giving of moisture would full length sleeve or short length sleeve be better? 4) Or maybe something better??? Oh, all this would be in consideration with one wearing a cooling vest and a cooling neck wrap. I know also that one needs to have a large hikers drinking back pack. Inaddition to water one needs something like Gatoraid or Propel drink also.
  10. Hope everyone is enjoying riding season...I know we are. My lovely bride & I are starting to look at safety gear (Jackets & Pants). What safety gear do ya'll wear? We are looking for something that is cool enough to wear in the heat but yet strong enough to protect us if we go down. It seems so confusing. Thanks, Melvin
  11. Here is what I need help with, in cleaning up my shop I found this part and dont remember where it came from, well I do know it came off of the old fuse holder when I upgraded it with Skydoc's fuse block. So where does it go and what does it do, I havent noticed anything amiss when I am riding. The second part is I lost the battery probe, I went out and bought the resistor for the probe and now I can not find it, does anyone have a spare one they can let me have, I will glady pay for it. Thats it..........
  12. I'll be taking delivery tomorrow on my '97 Royalstar tour classic with approx 28k miles on it, super clean. From all I've read, its a great bike, but the suspension needs firming up so the handling is not so 'wallowy' However, I've been unable to find anything regarding suspension adjustments/settings for this particular year (except one link that stated there were no adjustments available for '97s) this can't be true, can it? This is my 1st full size cruiser, and i will be doing a lot of two-up riding. I am about 195lbs with gear on, and my GF with gear is close to 160lbs so obviously soft suspension will be less than desireable for handling. I know its not a bike meant for aggressive riding or massive lean angle, but I don't want to be scraping floorboards on every turn either. Thanks for any tips!!
  13. A long time ago a former member named Pyro told me about a book/story about some guy... I think his name was Patches I am not sure. It tells of his history working his way up to his favorite Venture and riding it across the country. Does anyone know the name of this story and where I can find it? Thanks in advance CG:fingers-crossed-emo
  14. Luckily, both Susan & I RODE away without even a scratch. The bike... well... not so much. My pride... well... you know. VERY steep hill, very sharp hairpin turn, and I was negligent enough or arrogant enough to attempt it in 3rd gear. Right at the apex of the turn, the bike lugged, shuddered, and stalled. The roadbed was very steep to our right, so the bike pitched us off like ragdolls. we were tossed clear into some very soft loose gravel, and our full riding gear paid for itself in a nanosecond. Long story longer, the bike got skinned up pretty bad. All the plastic on the right side got deep scratches. No cracks, though. Took it to the dealership this am for an insurance estimate, and they don't actually FIX anything. they just replace it. What I really want to do is take the check from the insurance, and fix it myself, if they'll go with that. Funny thing is, I was just getting ready to spring for a new F4 tall & wide windshield. Have a good reason to toss the old one now. Nice, big greasy slab of humble pie for me. I have been riding for only 19 months, logging about 17,000 miles along the way, so I think I am fortunate to get off this easy.
  15. Check out this site. Scroll down and to your left and they have a deal on precsison motorcycle riding. There are others as well. There is one with and old Harley Davidson and still runs and check out the passenger seat. Pretty cool stuff. See tomorrow. Hal http://videos2view.net/
  16. Just returned home from riding the last 3 days of the Southern Route of "Run For The Wall 2012".. A real experience to say the least.. I would recommend riding what "legs" you can next year. It will be the 25th Run and should be something very special. A buddy of mine on a GW and I on my "Limited" joined the Southern Route Group in Chattanooga and rode with them all the way into D.C... We rode home on Sat/Sun and didn't stay for the "Thunder Run".... Very well organized and satisfying.... It was mostly HD, quite a few GW and some Yammy's....Trikes, sidecars and trailers also... Each group was in their own platoon.. Rain on the first day, but beautiful the rest of the way....

  18. WOW...talk about mixed feelings. I started riding when I was about 14 and I sure earned my share of battle marks during those early years. No training at all, just jumped on a bike, figured out what to push to make it go and was a terror for many years after that. Dylan is 19 now. I've bought a few small bikes for him to put around the yard on when he was younger but he never had any real interest. He had a CT70, a CT90, a Honda Bearcat and etc. but just never rode them over a half dozen times or so. Last week he told me that he has decided that he wants a bike. I think that some of his co-workers ride and he wants to join them. I feel very hypocritical about it all. I absolutely do NOT want him to get a bike but I sure understand the attraction. It has brought me much joy over the years. So, what do you do? I told him the truth about how I feel about it. That I really don't want him buying a bike but that I knew I had no basis to tell him no. I told him that I would insist though that he take the MSF safety course and that he NOT start out on a crotch rocket. I am steering him towards a 650 or so cruiser like maybe a VStar or a Honda Shadow. Due to his lack of interest in the past, I never thought I would have to face this day but here it is.
  19. wife was about to leave for work this morning & said " I don't care where we go or what we do, i just want to get on the bike & go " now that is a good woman... any1 near want to join us you are welcome, just don't know where we are going... wouldn't mind riding the trace to NASHVILLE...
  20. Just a post to let anyone who might be interested know I have just two of the black braces left. This isn't a panic emergency notice as I can always put in another order for another 10, but it may take a while, and now that riding season is upon us??? Any rider who hasn't done the mod on their 1st needs to consider it....
  21. you are out riding ? Please add name, location & the food served... this can help some of us newbies who is new to riding... My favorite is Loveless Cafe In Nashville just off the Natchez Trace, food served SOUTHERN, BBQ, & their biscuits and home made jams!!!! Our 1st trip there we arrived at 3pm on a Sunday afternoon and there was a 45 minute wait, BUT it was well worth the wait!! They have spots out front for motorcycles .. wow I may see if wife wants to ride up this weekend
  22. Okay, I like to get out of dodge on memorial day weekend. I am in east central Illinois. Looking at a destination 500 to 600 miles out for a $100 hamburger, yes I am a pilot to. Was thinking about ft rucker Alabama to take in the army air museum, anybody know of anything better. Other thing to cross my mind is riding part of natchez trace. Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
  23. Hello Everyone: While we are slaving away doing Estate cleanup at my parents home. Two of our veryone VR member couples rode more than 50 miles one way to stop by say hello, rub it in and go to lunch with us. Thanks to Patrolman46, RogerII and their wonderful wives!!! Hope to be riding again in a few weeks??
  24. I want to start riding at night again, and the headlight on the Lady Blue just isn't enough. So I've seen my options: Upgrade to a new headlight bulb. I was thinking PIAA's H4's, or a Silverstar Ultra. Aux Lights: Who to buy from, what kind? ya know? I need ones that provide optimum visuals, and be fully capable of supporting my headlights light cast. Upgrade to HID: Who to buy from? what type? Theres lots of different types of Aux lights, fog lights, hid brands... -.-'
  25. There is a chance that I could be riding to the Las Vegas Area around 19 June to 2nd of July. I would like to ride to the Grand Canyon area and into maybe a bit south, kind of want to experience the Arizona landscape. Question 1) How do you ride in the heat, yet still have adiquate protective riding gear. My riding gear consist of Tour Master Transition 2 Jacket with the matchinig Tour Master Venture Pants. Obviously I'll remove the thermal and waterproof lining and have all the jacket and pants air vents open. I also have the Clearview shield with the air vent. Will being lots of bottled water. Question 2) Leaving Las Vegas I would like to ride thru Death Valley going towards Sauramento. But leaving Las Vegas means that I would be going into Death Valley late morning. My 91 MKII gets the normal 40 mpg +or - 2 mpg depending on how I twist the throttle. Being that it looks pretty straight and flat I'm thinking that I should be getting the plus 1 or 2 mpg at about 65 mph. Where are the gas stops? Would I really need to bring an extra gallon of gas? Most of my life I've been able to handle heat better than the average, and not normally a complainier of uncomfortable environments. Except I do complain of high humidity. I just want to ride safe and would appreciate your heat riding experience advise. Also if there are any members that would like to take me on some local rides, I'd be open to that.
