1. The hips have arthritis, as do the neck and shoulders... too many years driving long haul trucks [45+yrs] The Venture was getting too heavy, so before any mishap I have changed bikes! A friend here wanted mine, and I wanted his...so we swapped I now ride an FJR Still consider myself a Venture rider, don't come in here much -- but I lurk LOL and get all the goings-on from Annie Stay safe everyone
2. Just got back from the prostate cancer ride in Victoria. Preliminary figures are $ 75,000.00 raised to fight prostate cancer. Did the poker run and pulled 4 aces and a 7. That was high hand for a 6 burner stainless steel bbq until someone showed up with a straight flush at the last moment. One unhappy thing, when we got on the ferry to go back to Saltspring one of the crew informed me that a biker had got off the ferry on their previous trip and got wiped out just outside the terminal. We had watched two ambulances and three fire trucks go by at that time. Don't have any other info. Hope it wasn't someone I know.
3. This is my nice Sunday morning ride.

5. Now my wife and I are still fairly new at riding ,18 months ( tho I've rode most all my life). Now back to my wife, seems like anytime we ride and stop we get all kinds of stares like these people can't believe to old farts ride or like they have never seen a husband & wife ride. Now my wife is quite & reserved , but this PISSES her off faster than anything I know. I tried to convince her they are just jealous but that don't help...I mean this mild manner grandmother has even thought about (she didn't do it ) flipping some off for starring..I tell her they just trying to figure out what a good looking woman is doing with me, that don't help either..Course I have to laugh under my breath because this is SOOOOO not like her to get riled up ...
6. Well I finally got her back together, certified and registered (new plate) and got her out for the shakedown ride this evening. I was like a little kid...so exited, I was about three click from home when I realized I didn't have the mirrors installed. Back home I went..got em on and back out again. Only two concerns; 1) a slight miss but I know I'll have to sync the carbs (new diaphragms installed). 2) she was wandering very slightly at highway speeds and I'm wondering if I need to tweak the air pressure in my new Kenda Kruz's. When I got home I was checking her over and found that the fork brace was only finger tight (DOH!!!) so that's likely the problem there? I'll find out tomorrow on the way to work. Will try to post pics tomorrow. Heroes Highway ride Saturday...woohoo!
7. Who is meeting at Denny's Friday morning in Monroe Mi. I-75 S. bound exit 15. I will be there about 10:15-10:30 have breakfast with everyone who show's up then ride to Don's when everyone is ready. :whistling: ALL IS WELCOME!! Joe
8. Title sums it up! I just sold my suzuki GSXR in favor of what I like to think of as a limo on two wheels. Picked up my 2005 RSTD 2 nights ago and I am in LOVE. My girl loves to ride as well but hated the back of the GSXR. After one quick trip to get acquainted we are both hooked. Look forward to learning as much as I can here and more important find some cool people to ride with. We are located on LI but ride all over the Pocono /Catskill area. Have a feeling this forum is the best $12 accessory ill get for my rstd.

10. I have been dealing with plugged pilot jets on my 84 all this year. As most know seafoam doesn't work well on plugged jets and I didn't want to stop riding the bike long enough to rebuild them. Amazingly enough with the idle cranked up to 15-16grand i'm still getting 37mpg and able to ride. I found these on Ebay and placed a bid. When I got up today I was happy to find I won. $121 with shipping. Does anyone know if all 83's had the adjustable needles?http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&rt=nc&nma=true&item=380440103134&si=ZMX9op6qie0ucLl6clKQXmfoPKc%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME%3AL%3AOC%3AUS%3A3160&vxp=mtr&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
11. Caged over to my daughters yesterday afternoon for a birthday BBQ, and coming the other direction was a group ride of about 20 bikes. Looked closer and the ride captain's bike had eye brows on the fairing. Dang...a Venture!! Started looking at the other bikes in the group and there were about 8 of them that had the 'brows'. Cool.... It must have been a group from Star Riders 153 going somewhere... It was the most Ventures I'd seen since Cody... I checked the 153 calendar, and it said something about a 'Stary Night' event, but no info on it. That's where they must have been heading.... Wonder what it was...???
12. ... and was quite surprised by the results. Nina & I did a ride into the mountains today ... East Gate of Manning park specifically for those in the know. Took it fairly easy most of the way with a bit of rippin thru the twisties. Most of the highway riding was running around 130 km/h Anyhoo ... decided to do a gas mileage check ... which I rarely do. The ride ended with 281 miles logged (452 km). WOW.. I had to double-check my calulations... 46.8 mpg ... not too shabby if I do say so muhself! Caught this beauty hiding behind some bushes... Some of the other scenery along the way...
13. Got the bike running like it should, I couldnt believe how quick it settled down to a nice idle. But now I need a rear master brake cylinder, this one is leaking and I cant get it to pump enough pressure to get any pedal to the rear brake at all. So, if anyone has one laying around for a 83 1st. gen.......shoot me a price...........I looked on fleabay, but they want way too much, and I cant wait for an auction to end. I wanna get the beast back together and ride, I forgot what it like to ride a big old bike like the Venture..........
14. Last season the cruise control worked great. Today was the first time out this year, And the cruise didn't want to work. When I left this morning the cruise did work going in to town. We left on our STAR chapter ride, and the cruise would turn on but the set button would not work. After about 75 miles we stopped, and when we started again the cruise worked until the first time I disengaged it, the RES light came on came on as it should, but then nothing. Hit the RES button nothing, hit the SET button nothing. I shut the cruise control off and turned it back on and and the on light comes on, but SET button doesn't work. Though out the day it worked about 4 times with me messing with it, trying to figure it out while on a 400 mile ride. Everything else is working perfectly. When I got home this evening I checked brake switches, clutch switch, and wiring. Went for a ride to see if anything helped, and no go. Got home from the test ride, and decided to check the switches on control switches on the handle bars. Took those apart and cleaned and checked the contacts in them. Everything looked good there. Haven't a chance to try it again. But I don't think that was the problem either. Over the winter I changed the motor oil & oil in the final drive, replace the rear tire, put chrome side covers on, serviced air filters, put billet air filter covers on, put chrome clutch & brake levers on. Any ideas on what & where to check next. Help is always appreciated. Thanks, Ron
15. In your Venture. Would you ride it cross country tomorrow....???

17. :Happy Birthday: Jim, wishing you the best today. We need to get together sometime this summer, maybe when it warms up. LOL. Hope you got take the Goldwing for a ride today.
18. I will be riding two up from Charlotte to Maintenance Day. We plan on leaving just south of Charlotte NC at about 6am. We will be going straight up I77 most of the way. If anyone would like to ride with us all or part of the way drop me a PM and we will see if we can set it up.
19. Well, I finally got all the plastic back on my ’83 VR and took it for a little ride. I only rode about 5 miles because I still need new tires. I am really pleased with the way it is running. Now I’m really getting excited about getting it on the road. I’ve haven’t had the carbs synced yet but I really don’t see how it can run much smoother. Of course I’ve been riding my 1100 so maybe it just seems smooth because I’m going from a V-twin to the Venture. So now comes my question. When I returned from the short ride, my rear brake rotor was very, very hot. I knew my brake was dragging, but I guess it was worse than I thought. I’ve done some more work on the proportional valve and it seems a little better but I was wondering how much drag is acceptable. When I try to spin the rear wheel, it will only turn about ¼ turn after I release it. I would appreciate any ideas on how to free it up. I’ve had the calipers apart and cleaned them. The brakes do seem a little spongy.
20. well today i went out to look over some used motorcycles to kind of get a feel for what would feel good to ride. i dont have the cash yet. but things might be good in august for a new to me bike. i stopped at a dealer and asked about some used bikes. he had a vstar 650cc nice bike low miles and a few honda shadows not sure of the size? i asked if i could take out the vstar for a ride? he checked to see if i had my endorsement and i do. he said yep you can take it for a test ride but you must have a major credit card? i was like why? he said they run it through and place a $250 amount on your card? when the bike comes back and there is no damage your card will get that $250 credited back to your card? i thought maybe it,s to cover some insurance thing? kind of like a car rental? i was not asking to rent the bike i wanted to test it. i left with out the test ride. but did get to hear it run and look at the maintenance records. what the hell how would i know if that bike had brake or transmission problems or something untill after i bought it? i never heard of this before. has any one else?
21. I put a new rear tire on last week and found that the inside of the rim was coated with some sort of black stuff that had left corosion on the inside the rim so I cleaned the rim off with a brass brush and soap and water and there were some pretty good pits. Everything seemed ok after the tire was mounted but after the first ride it is leaking about 30 pounds a day. I am thinking maybe if I break the bead and reset it that may take care of the issue, I had thought about ride on but I was told it was no good for sealing around the rim. If this does not work does anyone have a spare rear wheel for a 2nd gen they would part with cheap?
22. Thinking about heading out to ride the three sisters or twisted sisters. How far from San Antonio is it over to there and how much time should be allowed to ride them. Kind of last minute trip also wondering how crowded it might be on a holiday weekend.
23. Hey Gals and guys, I will try to get Iron Butt ride to Don's Maintanance Day. All options are open, here's rout I was planning, but once again nothing is carved in the stone. Iron Butt Route Does anybody want to join me ?? First 6 Beers are on me at Don's ( after ride )
24. Quickstep and I joined the Patriots M/C and a large group of riders for their annual Memorial ride. We had permission to ride over the causeway onto Fleet base West, which is the Navy base not far from us that is home to the Collins class submarine fleet. Magic! Then back to the Disabled Veterans clubhouse for BBQ lunch, raffles etc. In total we raised $5,000 for Legacy
