  1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1983-Yamaha-Venture-XVG1200-DELUXE-TOURER-First-1199_W0QQitemZ260389134242QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_motorcycles?hash=item260389134242&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A317|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318 What a description. Almost makes the two pictures worth it. I wish I had an aftermarket chrome radiator cover like that one.
  2. OK, I've owned this 1st generation VR for about 15 years. This never happened before. Bike was in the garage for the winter, Dropped it off the center stand Saturday to take it out of the garage. Anti Freeze puddle in the front Valace. Radiator is Full but the resevoir is low. I take some plastic off to look at the coolant plumbing. Everything is dry with no signs of leakage except That Petcock thing just under the radiator where the lower radiator hose meets some steel tubes. There is wetness there. The only thing I can figure is the very cold winter we had contracted that 'O' ring enough to create some seepage. I dried it up and filled the reservoir, and ran teh bike with no leaks.
  3. Well its probably a good thing I am planning a MD soon. This morning I headed down the road and was concerned about the weather and I felt wetness and it was antifreeze on my r leg. It seems I may have a leak somewhere in the front near the radiator as the water/antifreeze hit me calf level down on the right leg only. It was not a lot and I managed to turn around and get back home with no aissues. Funny thing was the water/AF was never even hot on my leg. I guess I will need to take a very good look to see if I can tell where the leak is and hope its a hose and not the radiator. I did not realise it but, this may have happened last friday as I saw a silver substance on the r sid e engine but could not tell where it came from ant though perhaps it was something someone spilled passing by. I had not ridden since then due to work around the house etc. This time when I returned home I noticed the antifreeze seems to turn silver on the engine. Does that souond right??. If anyone has experienced this let me know what you found. I am hoping this is just an upper hose that just decided to let go.. Now time to go back to the drawing and see where those hoses etc are located and how to get to them.
  4. i want to install a koso tach/temp. gauge in a 04 venture. i need to know the id in mm of the radiator hose can anybody help? my bike is in deep storage up here in mn.
  5. I am shamelessly plugging a classified ad I have posted in the First Gen. Parts Section. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=1724 It is the "Fix" for the leaking drain right below the radiator. Included are a new O'Ring and a new Stainless Steel Allen Head Cap Screw and S.S. lock washer to replace the Phillip's Head Screw. Install the upgrade and no more leak. Shipping is included in the price. The three pics below are location of drain, old parts and parts in upgrade. PayPal, Checks, Money Orders excepted. Earl
  6. Have you ever wondered where the motor support brace bolt (the one that hides behind the brake reservoir) goes when you drop it while reinstalling the brace? Note to self just remove the reservoir first it makes it easier. Anyway, that bolt ends up in the radiator fan housing. It is completely invisible to the naked eye. I spent at least a half hour or so looking for it yesterday. Finally I got the bright idea to stick my hand in to turn the fan blade. As soon as I started to turn the blade I could hear that sound of metal clanking as I turned the fan. The good news is after a couple of turns the bolt fell out the bottom onto the floor. Super Bowl Sunday was spent successfully changing the spark plugs, air filters and radiator fluid thanks to all the step by step guidance provided here. The next session I plan to add the Gen Mar risers, change the gas filter and of course the oil. Come on Spring!!!!! Thanks for the help, Dave
  7. Is there an easy way to check/tighten the upper radiator hose clamp without having to tear a lot of stuff off the bike? Any tips regarding this is greatly appreciated! Regards.....Boomer....who suspects a very small coolant leak from the upper hose.

    Radiator

In the process of pulling the starter on my first gen, I found that the small nipple of the radiator was merely held in by JB weld, which I completely disdain, and when wiggled just a smidge fell clear out. After looking at some of the ebay prices, and trying to shop around for a used one, I took mine to the radiator shop and asked if it could be fixed. He said "absolutely, won't be a problem". I asked if he could flush and leak test it as well, and asked the expected price. Then he drooped his head and said, "Well, for something like that it is pretty expensive." I thought, "Oh hell" Then he said, "I feel like I am stealing from you, but the time is what you are paying for. I have to ask for thirty bucks." I said, "Well, a guy has to make his money."
  9. Has anyone found an after market chrome radiator cover that will fit a 07 RSV? I had LED lights installed for night riding and would like to have some chrome up front to light up the front end. The cover that I have found on line says it will fit only 99-05. It appears there may have been some change from 05 t0 07 regarding the radiator (anyone know if this is true). Thanks in advance.
  10. Hi All, Has anyone found a place to get a radiator cap from besides the stealer for an 87' VR? Thanks for any help you can provide. Ride Safe, Earl and Jean
  11. The bike starts getting warm and overheating when in traffic or sitting still idleing. When I'm moving the temp quickly goes back to normal temp but will start getting hot again while sitting at a light. I don't think the Radiator fan is coming on what should I check for?
  12. Any ideas on what causes oil to be in radiator? I've had the bike (89 Venture Royale) two days and already finding problems.
  13. A few of you mention the Wagner grill. Where do I locate the site?
  14. Time for a new post to follow my previous, "crashed my 87'" and "waiting for the adjuster" now it is time for "search for parts". I am not sure if the adjuster and I will ever end negotiations soon but I have to start looking for a few parts. I will need: Left case guard, Left front flasher light assembly, Front radiator cover, Left side radiator cover,Left lower fairing. The left upper fairing is cracked but I think it may be an easy repair.. I have been watching E-bay with no luck in the past week. Once together again and safety inspection completed I may list it for sale and move on to a second generation. So if someone here may be interested give me a shout via PM or email . Regards Dave
  15. Hi everyone new to site ....I just bought a 08 RSTD and had a question about radiator covers ...has anyone installed them before and does it effect the cooling of the engine ...any help will be great thanks Kelly
  16. OK, I know this is a stupid question, but is there any trick to refilling the radiator on a 2005 Tour Deluxe? Not being mechanically inclined (and perhaps none too bright), I pulled the water pump cover to replace it with a chrome one without "Yamaha" stamped on it. Of course (being the water pump cover) coolant drained out onto the ground. I am sure I lost all of it. First, is there anything special about the Royal Star coolant? Will just Prestone from WalMart (pre-mixed at 50/50) do? Secondly, is there a tech article on this site detailing how to refill my coolant system? I REALLY would appreciate any help anyone could give. Thanks in advance.
  17. I was washing my 05 and saw that the radiator cowling did not meet properly with the other one. Upon closer inspection I found that the tab was broken on the bottom, (right side). I have never had this cowling off. Is this something that needs to come off if you service the air filter? I have let the shop do the servicing since I got the bike. The bike was serviced last week, (June 11), and I sure did not see this when I washed and inspected the bike just prior to that. They checked the valves and did a full service on the bike, so was thinking they may have taken it off. Was going to ask them about it, but decided to ask here first, then go to them if it looks like it was their fault. Dennis, from Montana temporarily in New Mexico
  18. Had to give Sleeperhawk his Father's Day present early! Check out the new radiator cover!
  19. Hope someone can help me. I removed my radiator on my 89 venture royale to get to the starter. I cleaned up the starter's interior in regards to the forum for dragging starters. The starter and radiator work perfectly but now the cruise control doesn't work. Any ideas? the indicator light on the handel bars work and the set and resume lights come on and then go off as normal when I turn on the cruise but I can't set the cruise. I checked all the switches on the brakes and clutch. help! paru
  20. This weekend, while waxing down the front fender on the Venture, my knuckle LIGHTLY brushed the fins on the completely exposed radiator and bent the damn fins where my knuckle dragged. I thought to myself why would anyone leave such a large radiator just hanging out there? My neighbor has a Suzuki C50, pretty cheap bike cost wise, yet it's radiator at least has a plastic cover. I have a couple of questions reagrding the radiator. If damaged by something being throw up from the roadway, would this be covered under warranty. I know, your paint being chipped or some other damage by road debris wouldn't be covered, but I think a resonable person would think the radiator would and should be protected from flying road debris. How much is a new radiator form Yamaha? Finally, are there any "poor man" covers for the radiator? I can' really afford the fiberglass one right now, but did come across a "Celstar" chrome cover for 70.00 dollars new? Any thoughts or fixes. Thanks again for everyones input and opinions!
  21. Don, was kind enough to spend time on making this so it would read on-line I just emailed him the stuff from Word and he made it work.. Thanks Don. He as added this to the TECH Section. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=192219#post192219 I will post pics of my new radiator and the new cover from Steve after I get everything installed, I hope nobody has to go through this. Or if so I hope it helps you, Jeff
  22. Well, The Bike has been sitting for about 4 months now through this long long Iowa Winter. I did get a chance to change the plugs , oil , yadda yadda yadda..... Oh I took a 10 mile ride yesterday! *WOW* Still lots of sand and real bad holes in the roads. As some of you know about 1.5 years ago my Radiator had a pin hole in it and I got it welded. and it has been fine until today.. now I notice wetting right at the lip on the bottom of the radiator.. not sure why after sitting for FOUR Months now it decides to leak? anyways unless you guys can figure why it is leaking again.. I am going to order a new one ANY SUGGESTIONS???? where? what to pay? ect... Thanks for any input. AND if I do install a new one I will write another how to remove the RSV Radiator! Jeff
  23. does anyone have the link for the fiberglass cover ?
  24. I have seen several posts concerning dealers not wanting to perform warranty work on bikes they did not sell. My RSV developed a serious coolant leak coming from the radiator. My closest Yamaha dealer is Sharp's in Amarillo. I called their service department and spoke with Mike, there was no discussion concerning where I purchased the bike. Mike knows I did not buy the bike in Amarillo, when I asked when he could get to it he said whenever I got it there. I picked the bike up yesterday with a new radiator in it and Mike thanked me for picking it up so promptly after it was fixed. Just wanted to let folks know Sharp's did me right. I have bought a bike from them in the past and have never had any problem with their service department.
  25. Local weatherman finally forcasted a good day, that actually turned out right. Normally they are only 40% correct, 60% of the time. After reading the real estate section of the Sunday paper, decided to ride out to a few homes to do some looking. Got a couple of comments about a great day for riding. I do have one question. The bike has been in the storage garage for the last few months on the center stand. I rocked it a few times to get it down onto the wheels. When I backed it out, there was a small (6") puddle of anti-freeze on the floor. I checked the radiator, which was full, as well as pulled all the plastic off and check the hoses, piping, and all of the radiator that I could get to. I could find no leaks. When I fired up the bike and let it idle, I could see nothing was leaking. Any ideas where the puddle came from? ? ? Today is supposed to hit 60, so it sounds like more riding.
