  1. Ok I have a set of brake pads that have slots on one side which side goes on which or does it matter?
  2. I am installing the firestik firefly 3foot antennas in place of the stock ones. After searching the other antenna related threads, I have a question: Instead of replacing all the wiring and the antenna mounts, Is it possible to just drill out the antenna mount and rethread it to the correct thread to match the antenna and just screw the firestik into the mount? I'd do this on both sides. Then just have the CB antenna tuned to the system. I already bought all the components to change everything over. But if it is possible then maybe it could save someone else some money. Thanks in advance
  3. I am coming from the wing and with that you could listen to the radio and then if the CB kicked in it would mute the radio and you would hear the CB. The dealer told me this system is independent meaning you either listen to the radio or switch to CB and listen for that. Also if I was to purchase a GPS would I be able to plug it into the aux near the cassette and have that work with the CB and radio. Hope my question makes sense.
  4. I have a 4 ft by 8 ft trailer with 3 ft sides with the back open but braced. I want to install some tie hooks so I can transport my 89 VR if I had to someday. My question is where are the best places to install these hooks?
  5. I know this is an odd question to be asking but: Does anyone have pictures of how and where they hooked their straps to the Venture when hauling it on a trailer. :rotf: Yes I know it ain't no stinking Harley. LOL Just kidding guys, I have owned Harleys too. Any way I would like to see, so I can put some I-bolts in the appropriate places on my trailer. Bubber
  6. Hey, any tire pros, A Harley friend (Heritage) has asked me a question. I'm guessing she has HD Dunlop 404. She rides local and even did SC to CA last year, so she rides! Your input might help her. I've had so many problems with my front tire. Riding back and forth to work I heard a lot of road noise. New tire, this must be usual! After looking at the tire I noticed the rotation was going the wrong way. So now I need to know whether I should leave the tire as it is or do I have SOMEONE fix the issue. My main question is will the tire seperate like a car tire if you rotate it wrong? This is my front tire and I'm a bit WORRIED. I don't want to be going 80 mph and have a blow out. Thanks EVERYONE. Deb Thanks in advance, Mike G in SC
  7. Don't know how or why,but the head broke on my radio where it has the inserts and screws. I did a temp fix but my question is can a person buy just the housing and change it out?
  8. OK Here's the problem. Did the Hoppy 5 to 4 conversion thing (LED Friendly), lights on trailer are incandescent. Everything is good to the plug. Hook up the trailer and only have running lights for about 20 seconds then fuse blows. Cannot get signals or brake lights, signal too weak. Tested on the cager everything works fine. My question is will a powered isolator boost signal to turn and brake lights or should I just switch to LED's:depressed:
  9. after talking to some members yesterday i got some answers but forgot one question so here it goes. check my pressure before riding and the front is 36 and the rear was 44.5,my question is if i drive 2.7 miles to the station(outside temp is 75)and recheck them and i want my front at 38 and rear at 48 do i just ad the differance (say front i need to ad two pounds)from the temp at the station example the front temp went up to 37..5 do i make it read 39.5 which will be ading the org two pounds or not. guess i could of wordrd it a bit easyier.
  10. Hello, I'm new here, just picked up my 1999 RSV last week, love it so far. I've seen here on the site that one can mount a Venture Pillow seat on a RSTD. My question is has anyone mounted a RSTD front seat on a Royal Star Venture ?? Thanks, Mike
  11. I've found discussions here about WHAT thermometer to buy. This is different: I'd like to know WHERE to mount it. The what can follow then. My question stems from my buddy and his farkled BMW. It has a pitot tube that samples air as the bike moves. The thermometer is untrustworthy until the bike is moving. The reason being, says he, that an exposed thermometer is influenced by sunlight warming and engine temperature warming. So, where should I put a thermometer? I have an RSTD, and thus I don't have a fairing to hide it in. On the other hand, that gives me a nice, quasi-hidden spot atop the forks but below the speed-o. It is shaded there, sometimes. So, two questions, really. Maybe three... A) Where is the ideal place to sample air from? B) Where is the best, reasonable place for a thermometer on an RSTD? 3) Where is the best, reasonable place for a thermometer on an RSV? I guess the final question should be answered first: does it really matter? Dave
  12. Kinda the same question but not really. Just purchased the Scala Pro and have a StreetPilot 2630. I thought it was Bluetooth but it was the Nuvi 360 that I have that is Bluetooth. Anyway I have read that the Cardo 500 adapter for about $85 can upgrade the system but for that many clams by just adding a bit more I can buy a completely new or refurb unit that is much more up to date but not as rugged. Anyway I have laying around a JABA Bluetooth thingy that looks the same as the Cardo and its no charge. So my question is does anyone know how to do this as neither has a LCD to give instructions as to when to push what?
  13. Question for those of you using our know about this headset. I just got it in the mail and its charging but got a couple of questions. 1. Can the rider and passenger have their headsets paired to different phones? That way she can answer her phone and I can answer mine, but more importantly, when shes on her own bike with our without me along, I'm hoping it can be paired to her own phone. 2. Anyone using a Captivate phone with this set? Are you able to get your navigation over BT from the Captivate? I really dont want to spend $500 on aZumo if I can just use my phone... 3. Any other recommendations before we get started using them? Thanks! Mike
  14. Okay I know this exist but can't seem to find it. My better half and I are taking two long trips this year. Both are approx 2000 miles each way. We plan to break it up into 3 days then 2 weeks of riding the 3 days back and 1 to recoup before going back to work. Not that any of that has anything to do with my question but I am getting very excited about the trips. My question is this: I have a Garmin (older one) 2730, and a Nuvi. Is there a program that besides gives routing but will accept input as to how far to space fuel stops and suggest stations around that area. IE I will want to refuel every 225 - 250 miles. (I have a 27 gallon tank but only get about 11-12 mpg when towing the bikes. (sucks) So my range is a bit over 300 miles per tank but don't want to push it.I can find the info with Mapquest but it is a real pain. Is there a better way?
  15. Well I have an odd problem. At speeds over 50 or so the bike seem to have a wiggle in the rear. It is not a lot but kinda acts like a flat rear tire. I have checked air pressure and everything I can think of. It is like I am wiggling the bars. It did not do it so bad that I could not handle it but I do not like it. Any ideas? Thank You, Shaun
  16. I keep seeing "2 up" and thought it was referring to 2nd gear but not thinking so any more. Can someone explain this to me. Thank You. Shaun
  17. Newfies are the Brightest A company was looking to hire someone for an important position so they interviewed dozens of applicants and narrowed their search down to three people from different parts of Canada . In an attempt to pick one of them, they decided to give them all the same question to answer within 24 hours, and the one with the best answer would get the job. The question was: A man and a woman are in bed, nude. The woman is lying on her side with her back facing the man, and the man is lying on his side facing the woman's back. What is the man's name? After the 24 hours was up... the three were brought in to give their answers. The first from Saskatchewan , says, "My answer is... there is no answer." The second, from Alberta , says, "My answer is... that there is no way to determine the answer with the information we were given. The third one from Newfoundland says, "I'm not exactly sure, but... I have it narrowed down to two names. It's either: Willie Turner or Willie Nailer." The Newfoundlander got the job.
  18. Just brought home a new to me 2005 rtsd with 21000 miles on it.My warranty has expired and it seems the rear shock has shot craps. My question is there another shock besides the stock yamaha shock to replace the worn out one with.Thanks.
  19. Hi, I am glad to have found your site. This forum looks greeat. I have a question, if I want to let other member know of the 1984 Venture I am parting out what is the best way to do that. I tried to click on the classifieds forum but it would not let me post. Do I have to be a paid member out of the trial period to do that? Thanks for the help in advance! Rick
  20. Ok, I know these will get a better bite on an OEM screw on a Japanese bike. The most common problem that I run into working on the older bikes is simply that the last guy has damaged the heads or stripped out the screws and can't get what he was working on apart. So if I was the kind of guy that orders every screw from the stealership I'd be in good shape. But I'm not that guy. LOL So the question is, and dumb it might be, but when buying metric screws at the local hardware store is the head going to be JIS or our standard? Mike
  21. I've read alot of comments about chirping and whining. I have an 03 RSV with 70,000 miles....I've noticed the whining and chirping, but never really gave it much thought...I just figured it was normal for this bike. My question.....is the whining or chirping a problem? or is it just an annoyance? Like I said....I have 70,000 miles....have I been doing harm all this time or do I just have a great abundance of tolerance??? Input is greatly appreciated.
  22. Well the time has come, my son (22) got his first bike. He didn't get a cruiser like I hoped he got a kawasaki Ninja 650r. I have never liked those bikes but I did ride his home, and was very suprised at how comfortable the bike is. I'm sure we will be doing alot of riding together and I have one question I was wondering. After the bike goes through break-in, I'm sure the time will come when we stop at a light and someone will feel froggy. So the question is when that time comes and I'm sure it will .... Who's gonna spank who? The Ninja or RSTD? Inquiring minds want to know.............
  23. I am a new member of the pgr annd have a question about putting a patch on the back of my jacket. I already have the Venture Riders od the back. Am I allowed to have them both on their? If so is it ok to have the pgr patch under the Venture Riders? Where can I go to find out the answer? Thanks in advance for any help!!!!
  24. Will be putting it together this weekend. I've read of the trials and tribulations some have had with them, so I'll be paying close attention during assembly. I'd like to add the Wally World (about $35.00) led trailer taillights. I'll also be adding a 5 wire in to 4 wire harness. question is how will the bike's turn signal function react to these additions? Time permitting, before Kreg's MD I may add these running lights. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LED-Red-boat-motorcycle-truck-trailer-RV-light-99HBR-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem53e659df3aQQitemZ360346935098QQptZOtherQ5fVehicleQ5fParts
  25. The right side horn has quit working on my RSV. The horn in the left cowling is still working but it is useless. I've heard babies cry louder than it sounds. I didn't particularly want to go with the air horn mod, so I hunted around and found a nice looking replacement auto horn. Plugged in the new horn and it doesn't work at all, not only that, it also kills the other horn as well. Neither horn works with the new horn plugged in. Removed the new horn and the left horn works again. Measured the voltage available at the horn connection and got full battery voltage. Don't have the meter to check current draw. Per the wiring diagram, there are no hidden connectors in line to drop voltage under load. Checked the new horn by jumping directly to the battery and it works fine. Just doesn't work when pluged into the harness. My question: is there something special about the OEM horn on the RSV? Does it take less current than an automobile horn? Other ideas?
