Will the bike run if the pick up coils a are shot. My 83 will idle fine but will not pull. I followed the test procedure in the tech article and got no readings on the 6 pin connector other than the ground. (Probobly doing something wrong) The 8 pin checked out fine. All 4 cyl are firing, carb sync new fuel fileter about 2 cans of sea foam. Fuel pump will fill a cup in seconds. Cleaned the connector on the side of the frame for the pick up coils. When I kick it off the center stand and try to pull away it dies and the choke will save it from stalling. If it does stall starts right back up. Any sugestions would be much appreciated frank:confused:

Anyone make one? What I would like to do is plug in an adapter to my 5 pin "pentagon" shaped pigtail for my headset and then plug in a 1/8 inch male stereo jack. This way I could use the speakers in my Arai full face helmet on any bike... any thoughts? When I ride the 650 Vstar I use the same helmet and I'm having clearance issues if I use ear buds

Just picked up a Astatic 636L noise canceling hand held mic. This mic is 4 pin so I also got the 5 pin din adaptor to go with it. Well, I tried it out and all I get is feed back through the mic. I have an older sears 5 pin that work sso the problems has to be in the wiring in the mic, I think? Does any one know what I need to do to correct the problem?

Does anyone have a 4 pin CB mic they can try on thier bike and see if it works? I want to get a power mic, but most are 4 pin and the price goes way up to get them rewired to 5 pin. I'm thinking the 4 pin will work but I'm not sure.

Does anyone know someone that can pin stripe my VR here in Northern Virginia. Just finished repainting and repairing. Thanks

The plug that one would plug the headset in located on the gas tank is waring out from being connected so many times. Babbits wants $50 some bucks for it and the Yama dealer wants $80. Anyone now of repairing or installing a new 5 pin socket or a less expensive place to buy the part, J& M would need a part # which it don't have. Any suggestions?

OK...a little quickie contest. The attached picture is a collage of 16 bikes that I've owned over the years....it would be more but I don't have pictures of near all the bikes that I've owned. Anyway, the first person to correctly identify all 16 bikes and the year models within 2 years either way, will win a VentureRider lapel pin. Have fun.

After all this time I'm finally getting around to reassembling the '84 starting with the wiring harness. Work is painfully slow seeing as I'm cleaning every connector and installing dielectric grease on every pin. I'm also adding bling to the harness even though it won't really show. Here's as far as I got tonight. I'll update every day or so that I work on it...

In case anyone hasn't picked up on it. The 5 pin connector for the headsets on the RSV uses the same plug as the old 5 pin DIN PC mouse connector. That is the larger mouse plug used on the old AT computers. So it wouldn't be to hard to fabricate a Y adapter if someone really needed to. Cut off an old mouse cord for the male end and use a DIN to ps2 patch cord for the female end. Mike

We have J&M headsets in our helmets and the speakers hurt our ears on long rides. We would like to try earbuds. It doesn't look like I can remove the speakers without cutting wires. I don't want to cannibalize our headsets in case we want to go back to them someday. Is there a place to get a microphone only with a 5 pin plug? Any other ideas or suggestions? Thanks, Ross

There has been a lot of discussion on which pin does what. This is the 13 pin c-bus breakout from the clarion DC625 service manual. Perhaps this will help. Mike

Not planning on spending $600+ on the cd changer from Yamaha but was thinking that rather than mounting my ipod on the handlebars and clutter things up, couldn't I put the iPod in the side luggage (where it will stay dry) and connect the audio out from the iPod to the pin connector for the cd ? Anyone try this ? I have a 2009 RSV. In the left side luggage is a cable which I believe is for a cd connection.

Hey all gurus out there. I was wondering if anyone could please give me the pin out for the tuner port (8-pin din) on the 1st gen amp. I'm thinking about pulling both the cassette AND the tuner and just replacing them with a standard car stereo. If you look at the electronics it doesn't seem like it would be that hard. The power/volume control for the amp and the intercom all go directly to the amp and the tuner is a separate unit that could conceivably be pulled. All I need to know is the pin out on the amp. I would end up with two volume control knobs but that won't bother me. If I get the pin out and do this mod I'll be sure to include pictures and directions on how do it for anyone else who might be interested.

Have I missed something, or do I not have a clue about how to pack the bearings? This is on a Harbor Freight Tag-Along trailer. Took off the dust cover, removed the cotter pin, removed the castle nut and flat washer. Wiggled the wheel a little bit and the bearing moved towards me. I pulled out the bearing. This is a tapered roller bearing. I packed it full of good Lucas Oil wheel bearing grease. I reinstalled the bearing, flat washer and nut. Adjusted the torque on the nut , installed the cotter pin. I am confused about the posts about seals, etc. Am I not going far enough into the wheel? Is there more than one bearing per wheel? I just want to make sure the bearing is properly greased.

My 87 RSV project is close to winding down, as you all know it'll never end but it looks acceptable and run's good so I'm happy. I got the Bike kinda cheap but it was missing allot of the electronics and never owning a Touring bike before I figured who Needs a radio, it's a bike? Well I need help with the radio actually the female 8 pin main audio connector in the left side Faring. The white plastic female 8 pin connector on the bikes Wiring harness was cut off. I have the connector but I don't know if there is a way to reuse it or if I can get one from some where that will plug into the male 8 pin connector from the Tuner/Amp unit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I still have lots of questions about this electronics that I find I just can't live with out but one thing at a time. Thanks Pete (I reposted this here in hope that a answer will come from a electronic form)

Will the Harley headset work on an 88 Venture? Or is the Harley 8 pin and Venture 5 pin?

I recently had someone's peg hit my right rear saddlebag turning a corner and you know what happened. Around $700 later its done except for the pin stripe around the luggage rack. I have a 2004 R/S Venture, pearl white. Does anyone have this stripe laying around I could purchase? The dealer in Wilson, NC was no help. Thanks..............
