  1. There is a brass piece in the clutch lever that depresses the plunger for the clutch. On the used 2002 Venture I bought last year, this piece is quite worn - I think the previous owner never lubed it. Does anyone know if this piece can be purchased anywhere? If not, I'll probably see if I can find a piece of brass rod with the appropriate diameter and drill a hole partway through for the plunger. Also, can the pivot bushing for the clutch (and brake) be replaced? Mine are a bit sloppy due to (I suspect) lack of maintenance. Didn't find part numbers for these bits in the Yamaha listings. Ross
  2. saw this on ebay and thought someone on here might be looking for that rare piece of chrome that comes along every once and again. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=360137490337
  3. Pulled the bike out of winter storage tonight & started to install a Show Chrome "plastic" gas tank/ignition cover. While installing I noticed that when the handlebars are turned all the way either direction (as they were getting it out of the corner), the risers push into this cover quite a bit, and it did it with the stock black piece also. This Show Chrome piece is much more brittle than stock though. I'm wondering if it's going to crack/shatter the first time I crank the bars over all the way. Anybody that has one have any issues with it? Thanks for the info...JR
  4. So I have decided to remove the passenger seat and pillion. I don't do any 2 up since my wife is deathly afraid of motorcylces. I was originally going to get the rear fender rack, but wanted to avoid more chrome (I know, I know, bikes are supposed to have chrome) because I like the look of the black and I think chrome take away from it (IMHO). So after some thought and inputs from my wife, I came up with a new idea. Had a piece of 3/8 smoked plexiglass from an old stereo cabinet in my collection of stuff I never throw out. Took some measurements, did a little online research and came up with a plan. I cut the piece to size, sanded and buffed all the scratches out. Cleaned up the edges and then warmed up the piece in the oven at 270 for 30 min (did some test pieces to figure out the right time). Took the warm piece to the covered fender and molded it to fit. After it cooled, I drilled out the holes, put some spacers in. I couldn't find the right size screw for the back and Home Depot, have to try another place. Below is the end result. Total cost, $3.75 in spacers and screws. Next step is to get the "STAR" laser engraved on the back. Should look good.
  5. would anyone like a chrome bezzel for a second gen ignition i bout this installed it and relize the aftermaket key i have wont work so i will give it away to who ever would give this piece of chrome a good home.
  6. Well. I bought a $20,000 6 disc changer...It came with a really cool motorcycle, but quite frankly, I don't need it (the changer, not the bike). I want to sell it, but have no idea what it's worth. It's brand new, in the box, with 2 pieces that I assume are for the installation. One is a plastic piece and one is a very thick rubber boot that seems like it is made to go around the player. I don't want to list it on eBay until I know what it might be worth, any advice? Kevin
  7. While waxing my new '08 Venture S, I noticed a chrome piece of metal over the top of the rear jug on the left side (sitting on bike) and there is not one on the right side. Is this piece missing and if not, what is it's purpose. The only purpose I can see is it makes it hard to get to the seat nut on that side and easy on the other. I can't sleep wondering if my baby is missing on of her chrome pieces.
  8. I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have an extra trim piece that fits over the lights on the rear of the trunk (1990) that they are willing to sell? The piece that wraps around the back of the lower trunk. It was on the bike when I picked it up, but if fell off somewhere in the Arizona desert. The trunk must have been damaged at one point because there doesn’t look like it was attached to much of anything. Thanks Al
  9. Can anyone recomend a 3 piece windshiels for a 2006 RSTD with the stock windshield?
  10. Bought a rear metzler for my 2005 tour deluxe in march of 07. 15 mos. and 10,000 miles later I have found a split between the tread. I had reservations about buying a metzler because of the comments I had read on this forum about it. I figured I would go ahead and buy one anyway knowing that I would always keep it at the metzler recommended tire press.(46-48 two up). What a piece of s... tire. I should have listened to you guys. Oh well I always learn things the hard way Leaving on a 2 week west coast trip sept.7th. glad it happened now!
  11. My antenna is loose where it threads into the black piece with the chrome bezel piece. I can't get it to tighten or loosen because the whole thing turns, meaning the piece that threads onto the mount itself. Any ideas on how to get it off of there so I can get some loctite on it and thread it back on I don't mind it being loose but am afraid of losing it. Can I get an aftermarket antenna that just goes on the mounting bracket? Thanks, Ross
  12. Hi, I have a question about the first gens vents. I bought an 83 VR and while Im not trying to make it a museum piece, I do want to fix what I can and make the bike as functional as possible. I have a couple of broken vents on the fairing (the ones on the sides of the fairing that blow cool air on your legs) and one of my vents covering the back two cylinders is broken and doesnt want to stay open. My question is in 2 parts.....first, I have noticed several pics on the Venture Galleries of 83 - 86's that dont have vents over the back two cylinders, instead that spot is open and on some there is a curved piece of chrome. Is this something yamaha did? Like the difference between Ventures and Venture Royale models? Or is this a modification that riders have come up with to let the engine have a little more air flow. The other question is about locating new vents....any suggestions? Ebay? Websites? Junkyards? Thanks for any feedback Paul:thumbsup:
  13. Does anyone have the upper housing piece for the 1986 CLASS system?

    need help leaking forks

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to fix a leaking anti-dive valve. I have replaced the orings and still leaks, coming from the weep hole on back side of unit LOWER HALF not the piece where brake line connects, just below that. the manual claims no disassembly must replace. NONE ON EBAY. can anyone help?
  15. Hello everyone, I removed the plastic chrome trim right below the windshield. The rubber trim pieces on the top and bottom of the trim were barely attached. What should I use to glue the rubber back to the trim piece? I was thinking clear silicone? Any suggestions? Thanks, Eric
  16. Finaly finished. After listening to everyone talk about floorboard placement making your passenger more comfortable I thought I would give it a try myself. I first cut the hinge off the OEM floorboard mounts and added length with 1/4" plate. I then welded a vertical piece to the new end moving the bottom down and forward. After shaping the new horizontal piece to match the angle of the original I carried that same angle down the new vertical piece which is now forward 3" and down 3". Next I cut the "T" end of a Harley Davidson floorboard mount and welded it to the bottom of the new vertical end. To minimize flex and add strength I welded gussets to the newly formed front and back inside angle and shaped to fit aroung the exhaust down tube. After the piece was chromed I added a new set of Kuryakyn boards. For the trunk I paid $10 for a HD fender rack at a salvage shop and cut all the flanges of it and welded it to a RSTD detachable backrest I bought on ebay for $50 (what a steal). I made the weld just above the latching mechanism. Once that was in place it made the backrest ridged enough to cut the upright hoop away just above the weld and not lose the correct angles and possition to allow it to click into place on the fender rail. To minimize any vibration or flex that might come up I welded a small strut to each side from the horizantal rack on an angle down to and existing hole in the fender rail. Once the entire piece was chromed I added an HD tour pak painted to match my bike and now I have a detachable trunk I can just click out as needed. My wife is much happier. It took some time but boy is it worth it.
  17. I've had this shield on my bike for about a year and a half... it has VERY few miles on it, mostly just lightly covered in the garage but after I uncovered it this spring, I see stress cracks all across the viewing area. http://www.bergall.org/temp/venture/pp-windshield.jpg Anybody else have this problem? This is a Lexan piece that ships FLAT and you BEND it into shape... it's much wider and taller I REALLY like it... but oh, those lines...!!! The manufacturer thinks it may just a bad "batch" that the piece was made from...
  18. I've got the windshield off and the headlight out and I can't even see the cable. Just about 1.7 million wires. Any suggestions? Does the big plastic piece that would be the top of the dash come out? and how? Thanks for any help...
  19. First off, a BIG Thank You to bongobobny for the parts I needed!! Next - dumb question time. How do you get the switch out of the clutch lever mount??? Mine is broken off, with a piece still in the mount. I wondered why the cruise wasn't working! I must be having a Senior Moment Attack, I can't get the @$&^*# piece out!! What holds the switch in place??
  20. Hello Everyone, This is going to be a dumb ?. I just rec`d my K&N Filters and chrome covers. Do the lowers have to come off? Also what holds the chrome piece on? The black cover does not go back on. Told you this was dumb. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance :confused24::confused24::confused24:
  21. My Cassett player has been eating tapes, running slow, and would Not Reverse tape direction. I decided its time to replace the belts, and do some work on it. After opening up the unit, back side, the Y shaped piece of metal over the two Fly Wheels has to be removed to replace the 3 Belts. After doing this, and re-installing, the Unit was running very slow, and stopped. Impression was that of Excessive Friction. I took it apart again and found the following. In the First photo, note where I Marked with 2 Arrows. I had applied too much torque to these 2 #1 phillips head screws. I removed the y shaped metal again and realized that the Center Axels , of the Flywheels run's against this piece of metal. I guess you would call it a friction bearing. If you over torque the two screws, you slow down the flywheel rotation, too much friction. Anyway, I applied some greese to these two Points, under the metal piece, ( Under the two points I marked with an " X " ) Re-installed, and left the two small screws, much looser, and applied some lock tite to them. I also applied 3-in-1 Oil to all the rotating gears, and moveing parts. Layed unit on bike, plugged it into power, and Wa La!! it worked great. And the auto reverse is working good now. Anyway, before you throw away your old unit , or give up on it, if your haveing trouble with it , give this a try. Don't forget to clean the Tape Head.
  22. Just finished reading the review on the neck gator and the Belaclava. Seems like everything that they tag as a "biker" item, gets the price jacked up. For anyone interested in some very good cold weather clothing without playing through the nose, check out www.maxit-inc.com. I am currently using their Headgator 6 in 1. Excellent piece of clothing. The only issue I have with it is that I wish they made it with a yoke to fit lower onto the chest and back. Also 'merican made. Just my observation and opinion, for what it's worth.
  23. My old one piece don't fit no more! what size do you that have Frogg Toggs recommend I get (two piece) I am 6.0 and 190lbs. they must fit well over chaps and a armored leather jacket. Thanks All
  24. hey guys, need a few parts for a '93 VR. 1. left side louvers 2. left side turn signal lens 3. left side chrome piece with the red lights in it (part of the rear accesory lighting package) that is under the saddle bag and curves around and ties into the center piece of the rear bumper. 4. the CB remote for the rider that mounts on the left handlebar. If anyone has any of these and wants to let them go please let me know, or if you know any one who has any of these let me know. Dropped bike in Aug. and didn't know if I wanted to get back on and ride, but have decided to fix it and ride some more. Thanks Don H.
  25. I had to pull my exhaust and collector to find an oil leak that I have been living with for the last 12/13 thousand miles. It started just before Vogel and my trip, and just after rebuilding the clutch and clutch slave cylinder. It turns out that it is leaking at the slave cylinder oil seal. That's on order. In the meantime, I took the collector to a friends because he has a parts washer. The oil was so cooked on that the cleaner barely touched it, so he said "Let's just put it in the bead blaster, then paint it" I said "You've got a bead blaster? COOL!!!" That was fun, but as I was moving it around I heard a rattle. I've read of this dreaded problem, but hadn't heard the rattle while it was on the bike. It was more than a loose piece that could be fixed by "punching" the bottom to press on the loose part. (Like I've read about in threads here) We decided to cut it open and get the loose piece out, it was a corner piece that had broken loose and was rolling all over the place. One thing lead to another and we ended up "cleaning it's clock"! We pulled out all the perforated metal and what appeared to be heat shield. Most of which was gone anyway. My main question is: Do I need to put some sort of heat shield back in the top of it? Does that extra heat on the bottom of the engine create any issues? Has anybody (I'm sure someone has!) done this to their's? Paul, my friend, wants to eliminate the collector all together and bend some pipe to replace it. I said that's already been done but it's a few hundred dollars! So we decided to leave that to others! Sorry, I haven't taken any pictures yet, but I'm gonna take my camera tomorrow and get some shots. I'll post them here then.
