  1. My 96 Royal has passing lamps. Looking at the owner's manual, there is supposed to be a switch located somewhere in or around the left handlebar control. I assume it is supposed to be a momentary switch that only turns the lights on when the switch is pushed and held? Is this switch part of the control housing, or is it mounted externally? Whoever mounted the lights on the bike added a toggle switch to the left light housing. I can't even reach the switch unless I stand in front of the bike. Can anyone post pictures of the proper switch for me? Anyone know of a source for it?
  2. Just got back from seeing Rain. They were on Broadway and now they are touring. They do a fantastic Beatles show, starting from the beginning to their final moments together. If you like the Beatles you owe it to yourself to see this show if they are passing through your town. The place was sold out here on a Wednesday night no less. Sure did bring back some great memories (flashbacks?).
  3. Just an idea I thought I would pass along. Adjusting the passing lamps is such a pain in the a-hold I decided to find an easier way. Checking the alignment and tightening the adjustment nuts with the sealed beams out was the issue for me. They always moved and I could never get them exactly where I wanted them. So I made a tool to help with the job. It is very simple and I made it out of a piece of scrap wood. The notch goes around the headlight and butts up to the passing light housings. The housings will be held pointed straight ahead. Then I use a small level from Harbor Freight for the vertical setting. This makes it easy to keep them both the same when I tighten things up. Mike
  4. Anyone install the passing lamp bar spacer ( the one Tony makes) on a lowered front end 2nd gen? are there any issues with it hitting the fender? Thanks
  5. My RSV has the Yamaha passing lights. Presently they are aimed to converge on the ground about 20 feet in front of the bike. Not really useful at night. I tried to aim them further down the road, but I'm having a problem. While it's easy to rotate them side to side, I can't find a way to adjust them "up and down" so that they are aimed further down the road. I was going to check the headlight aiming point and aim them just below that to light up the road without blinding oncoming traffic, but I can't find a way to adjust them "up and down". Am I missing something or is this how they are supposed to work? Andy
  6. I've added passing lamps to my 06 RSTD and I'm having some trouble. I set up an in-line fuse on the circuit and connected it to the low beams. The whole thing is on a switch. I thought I read to that they use a 7.5 amp fuse. That's what I tied and it blew instantly. So, before I go messing around I thought I'd ask the experts. What size fuse should I be using on these passing lights. They're Yamaha OEM passing lights. Sugguestions would be quite helpful. Thanks all!!
  7. north bound on US 49, between Florence, MS and Richland, MS. Traffic kept me from turning around. Just wondering if it was one of us passing through Mississippi.
  8. Hello Everyone: If you or any of your friends are passing through our region and need assistance of any kind, please give us a call. I am very blessed. My 30 years in the phone industry has provided me with business contacts and friends in a 200 miles radius of Scottsbluff Nebraska. We also have a great Yamaha dealer "Celli's Cycle Center". Give us a call 308-765-0167 We would love to meet more members in person...Mark:)
  9. ...on one side. As far as I can tell, these are the original Yamaha passing lamps. Is there another sealed beam that will work or must I buy the original Yamaha lamp?
  10. I haven't seen stores that sell the Silverstar ULTRA in single packs and was thinking of replacing my headlight. Current stock headlight is almost invisible at night with the passing lights on. Was wondering if anyone from the KW area bought the two pack and has a bulb to spare they'd like to sell. Don
  11. My good friend ordered the new E3s for his 09 Ultra Classic. The dealer won't balance them since they require 3.7 oz of weights. He called Jake Wilson and they will take them back and send a replacement set and no cost. It appears that the new tire for the HD line has had some problems. The dealer said that not only are they way out of balance but the front one is out of round. Just passing it on.
  12. Turned on my bike today and my lamps didnt come on....Bulbs?
  13. I have just started noticing that my passing lights are on sometimes, and not at others. Since I bought the bike with them installed, I have never seen a switch for them. I thought they ran with my low beams, but lately if I pull up to someones back end at a light, in the reflection they are sometimes on and sometimes off. I think it is a short, but wanted to check to see if I am missing a switch. High/low beam doesn't make any diference. I guess I could rewire them to run with both. Is it better to wire a switch in, like I had on my 1st gen?
  14. Anyone know where to get a Driving Light ring/clamp that goes on the Yamaha Passing Light accessory for a 2006 RSTD? Stealer says Yamaha doesn't sell the individual pieces.....
  15. He was getting old and paunchy And his hair was falling fast, And he sat around the Legion, Telling stories of the past. Of a war that he once fought in And the deeds that he had done, In his exploits with his buddies; They were heroes, every one. And 'tho sometimes to his neighbors His tales became a joke, All his buddies listened quietly For they knew whereof he spoke. But we'll hear his tales no longer, For old Bob has passed away, And the world's a little poorer For a Soldier died today. He won’t be mourned by many, Just his children and his wife. For he lived an ordinary, Very quiet sort of life. He held a job and raised a family, Going quietly on his way; And the world won't note his passing, 'Tho a Soldier died today. When politicians leave this earth, Their bodies lie in state, While thousands note their passing, And proclaim that they were great. Papers tell of their life stories From the time that they were young But the passing of a Soldier Goes unnoticed, and unsung. Is the greatest contribution To the welfare of our land, Someone who breaks his promise And cons his fellow man? Or the ordinary fellow Who in times of war and strife, Goes off to serve his country And offers up his life? The politician's stipend And the style in which he lives, Are often disproportionate, To the service that he gives. While the ordinary Soldier, Who offered up his all, Is paid off with a medal And perhaps a pension, small. It is not the politicians With their compromise and ploys, Who won for us the freedom That our country now enjoys. Should you find yourself in danger, With your enemies at hand, Would you really want some cop-out, With his ever waffling stand? Or would you want a Soldier-- His home, his country, his kin, Just a common Soldier, Who would fight until the end? He was just a common Soldier, And his ranks are growing thin, But his presence should remind us We may need his like again. For when countries are in conflict, We find the Soldier's part Is to clean up all the troubles That the politicians start. If we cannot do him honor While he's here to hear the praise, Then at least let's give him homage At the ending of his days. Perhaps just a simple headline In the paper that might say: "OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING, A SOLDIER DIED TODAY."
  16. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=56600&stc=1&d=1305504455 I just purchased a 2008 RSV and judging by the angle of the lower wind deflectors, relative to the fork angle, I question whether or not I have the right passing lamp mount. Could it be that this mount is for an RSTD? Paul
  17. I don't know if this has been put up already, but my cousin posted it on Facebook and I thought it was worth passing on, [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--92lbsY2T0]YouTube - NRA Life of Duty Patriot Profile -- Patriot Guard Riders[/ame]
  18. A little over three months after she went into the shop, I rode Roxie home tonight. If you haven't followed the saga, she broke a rod, which then broke out of the crankcase. Because this is so exceedingly rare, there was an initial delay on how to process it. Then there was slow work as parts were measured, ordered, and then more measurements and orders. Three months is a long time when you miss your entire Spring riding season. As of now, the repair is being covered under warranty. The dealer has had problems in the past with getting paid (warranty authorisation revoked after the fact), and hasn't been paid on this repair yet. Payment generally lags repair completion by several days, and it is longer than that already. Rather than hold Roxie hostage, she has been released into my custody. The dealer said they couldn't figure out why the battery gauge wasn't working. I reckoned I could figure that out, so I rode away. Happiness! Owen saw her idling last week. He reported that they were tracking down some popping on deceleration. I thought that explained the delay, but I suspect that it was all about the lagging payment. Because, she popped like a mis-timed Harley on the way home. I need to ask my wife if she saw flames coming out the tailpipe, because that's how it sounded. I also noticed that the passing lamps were out. *sigh* I parked in the driveway to clear out a berth in the garage. Then she didn't start. A call to Squidley tracked down the problem: they hadn't tightened down the positive battery cable! While under the seat, I fixed the battery gauge and passing lamp issue: they had removed the fuse! I wonder if they did that to prevent battery drain? I wonder if a loose battery cable can cause backfiring? She didn't backfire when I ran her after tightening the battery. Over the weekend I'll give her a good cleaning (she still has oil from the blow up covering her shiny bits) and check out what they did. Oh yeah, and I'll put some miles on her! Dave PS, I am attaching the list of the parts they bought and labor used.
  19. First of all I apologize to Wally, and Tony for this triple post. Please delete it if it is a duplicate. I am in the process of parting my faring. I have it all dismantled except I can't figure out how to remove or if I have to remove the Passing Lamp mounting bracket that fastens using the two hex bolts. I don't even know what size they are and I don't know how to reach them because of the angle they are at. Is it necessary to remove these in order to drop the passing lamps down enough to remove the front faring piece? I'm stuck at this point and not sure how to proceed. If you have any comments or suggestions I would appreciate it. Thank you Chris in Red Deer, Alberta.
  20. What would be the proper relay to wire the passing lamps? I'm assuming that something like this could be purchased from the local auto parts store.
  21. Is the spacer bar for passing lamps still available? Any contact info appreciated.
  22. Anyone ever order from Accessories4bikes.com They seem to have pretty good prices for visors for headlights, passing lights and turn signals. That's about the only dress-up items left for my '05.
  23. Hi Folks, sorry if this is the wrong section to post this is but i am wanting to put some passing lamps (i believe that's what they are called) on my bike and was wondering how much they cost, where can i get them etc? I also want those little visors on the lights like the bike shown below. I have also seen a LED light strip that people are putting on the trunk of their bikes that i would like to get. Can i run both of these items and my GPS without draining my battery? Sorry if that's a stupid question but i just want to make sure. Thanks in advance for your help guys. P.S. Also to who ever owns this bike, i hope your not offended by me using your picture.
  24. I'm considering getting passing lights for my '09 RSV and not sure what you get when you order them. I see that the passing lights requires mounts as well. If someone can clarify.... Passing lamps -STR-4XY35-10-00 => are these JUST the lights? Passing lamp mounts - STR-3XY35-40-00 => is this the bar that the lights and turn signals attach to? Where do I get the recommended "spacer" from? Not sure I want the OEM lights if there is a better looking and more functional option. Is the Rivco 4" 55/60w a good choice? www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?model_id=42&Category_ID=49&manufacturer_ID=11&product_ID=36682&related=short Also... for the switch, has anyone used the Show Chrome accessory block? http://www.canadamotorcycleaccessories.com/Dual_Accessory_Switch_Block_1_inch_Cruiser_Bars_P24870.php
