  1. I have an advantage as I only live 91 miles away from freebird, a little East and a tad South. Being a newbie to the board and to my RSV I didn't have a clue what to really expect. I got there around 10:30 and of course the first thing I did was look up our host and shake his hand. It was quite an experience, I'm not sure how many people were there when I got there but they were coming in all day. Funny thing was - there were riders from everywhere, I walked around and looked at plates on the bike, but there didn't seem to be any strangers including me. It was nice to put a face on a board handle, problem is, my memory is about as long as my hair and by next week I'll have lost the faces again. Maybe a second year and a little more interaction on the board will help my memory. THANKS DON !!
  2. Took a nice ride to check on my boat at Atwood Lake Today, great weather in Ohio:Venture:
  3. just got back from the final run to the hub, to tie up the loose ends. shared a room with la pryor, so we got the first hand scoop on the accommodations. the room was nice and large and had a refrigerator, microwave, coffeepot, kingsize bed ( i had a room with single bed). i ate lunch and dinner there and my meals were great. had a slight malfunction at dinner on the service but they took care of it. randal and his wife, the owners bent over backwards to make our stay a-1. hit alot of rain going down, and out ran the rain coming home. the ambassador recruited some new venture riders. all in all it was a great time, and we got to see buddy's new wing first hand. really nice. i think the 09 rally is going to be a great success. looking forward to seeing everyone there. bill
  4. Well Wild Hair and I got to my place at 2:15 this morning after a 250 mile ride from Snarleys place. What a nice turn out met some new members and reunited with quite a few members from former events. Did 525 miles yesterday going up and back. My last big ride for awhile with my hip surgery scheduled for the first of June. So wont be able to do Don's MD this year:crying: Many thanks to Linda (Snarleys wife) for putting up with us all. Bill for putting on a great a event even though I was only there for the day. Wild Hair just left my place heading south to his. Looks like he may get a little wet going home. Always nice to have Lowell stop in for a visit. Hope everyone has a safe ride home from St Charles. P.S. I saw Cinderella Pig Out Again:stirthepot: John

  6. Hi All The bike is spring prepped, the weather is getting nice, and I just finished putting together a Piggy Backer XL - now I need somewhere to go?? Living in the Toronto Ontario area, I thought about exploring a little more of NY State, I have travelled through many times but never really stopped long enough to smell the flowers. I was thinking perhaps setting up camp in a nice State Park then doing some short road trips over the next couple of days. Any suggestions?? All welcome & encouraged!! Thanks, Ron

    Carb sync

Kevin (AKRefugee) came by the house today and we did carb sync using my old carb sticks. Neither one was too far off but our bikes are smoother now. Nice to see a MM and 2006 next to each other. I had a good day. Thanks Kevin ride safe Rod
  8. The guy I sold my 87VR to last spring needs to sell it for health reasons, its in the classifieds. Its a nice 1st gen if you are looking, and it would help a nice guy. Hey Dan..... its BLUE !!!!! Craig
  9. Has anyone seen or have any info on the New Hannigan trike kit???? Looks like a nice kit.... http://www.hannigantrikes.com/content/yamahatrike.html
  10. Was out today and went by North County Yamaha in San Marco. They had a Venture on the floor so I of course had to go look it over. It was a really nice looking 2004 Midnight Venture for sale. It only has 8700 miles and they are asking $10,499 for it. This bike is in excellent condition. Beyond the usually goodies it had the leather cover for the trunk (don't know if this is stock or not on the MV's but I want one for my 06 Cherry red). The pipes were drilled out and punched and sounded really nice. It has the Clearview windshield with the vent. That's about all I can tell you about because the wife was forcefully pulling me away from it (guess I didn't hide the slobbering well enough) Just thought I would mention it in case anyone is looking for one. Also thought I would mention it so that it might get bought thus keeping me out of trouble with the wife. If it doesn't get bought soon I do not know how long I will be able to resist it. If you want more info I can give you the number to the place just pm me.

  12. If anyone wants to stay in some VERY nice facilities in Leakey,Texas,(Right in the middle of the famed "Three Sisters" Area) I HIGHLY recommend this place , http://www.friopecanfarm.com/fpffacilities.html , While Leakey has a "Motorcycle Only" facility,It is great for Bikers. If you are looking for ALL accomodations,IE:Full kitchen, pots and skillets included plus mixer etc PLUS Heavy steel constructed BBQ Pitts at every cabin and alongside the Frio River plus right in the middle of a huge Pecan Orchard this place is NICE. It seems pricey but splitting with another couple it is well worth it.We rented a 2Bedroom Cabin,2 baths,1 in each bedroom for $140.00 a night. They are super friendly people.I even asked if they would accommodate a large Venture Rider group and they gave me keys to see their larger cabins that have 4 Bedrooms 4 baths full kitchen etc. ALSO a LARGE,VERY Large Pavillion with HUGE BBQ pitts for a group BBQ..THEY SUPPLY THE WOOD FOR THE PITTS!!! I am in no way affilliated with them I just like to share a great place when I find one..I will be back there again. Tom
  13. i met up with a new venturerider.org member last night named Evan, what a great guy. we had lots to talk about, he is a very avid rider who has done many trips, and looking forward to joining in on many rides, meets and eats, and ice cream. we had a go at his new to him 88. sweet ride, very nice shape, but i would like to set up his carbs for him. is there anyone in and around Toronto that has a manometer for setting up the carbs. cheers, Scott:beer:
  14. Today, Ron and I rode the bike to Harbor Freight. We found this nice high volume, 100psi, 12volt portable air compressor for $19.99 on sale. It is a nice compact size with all metal construction, with a quick disconnect coil hose and a nice straight air valve end. Comes with a nice carrying case. It is only 5 1/2" long, 2 inches wide, and 5 inches high. Thought I would share this with you. Yama Mama
  15. Last Friday and Saturday, three buddies and I took our first two-day ride of the spring. The tour was about 700 miles round trip through the hills of Southern MO and Northern AR and was it terrific! The weather was perfect; cool in the early mornings, but 70ish midday. Was it nice to get out and just ride and visit with the guys. For those of you who haven't had the opportunity yet, I FEEL LIKE A NEW MAN. GET OUT THERE QUICK, YOU'LL FEEL BETTER TOO! I think that fix will last about 2 weeks...maybe...but it sure is nice summer is on the way!
  16. Hi from over the pond here in the UK July last year i swapped my BMW K1200LT for a 2001 Venture to enable my wife who has a disability a weakness to her left leg which makes it difficult to get aboard, So a lower and easier bike to mount was purchased the Venture it had all the toys the beemer has and a nice big fat saddle to rest my ample behind on. After living with this bike for a month ( let me first apologise for my next comment) What a load of F****N C*** this pile of S*** is. Its heavy and doesnt corner the worst bike i have ever owned. I need to get rid of it but guess what S*** happens i find myself out of work so it has to stay at least for a while till new work can be found and funds raised to get a bike that corners. 9 months on still out of work, world recession, no work. Ive read a few threads on the forum and hear a lot about downsizing the front tyre to 130, so found a nice man who had a set of avon venoms white walls for sale so they were fitted front 130/90 16 rear 150/90 15 WOW!!!!!! This turns a real pig into such a riders bike it corners so easy and slow speed handling is great should have done this earlier its a pleasure to ride and can cope with all that the UK,s B roads can throw at it After 10 months I am converted, its the Dogs

    Took A Ride This Weekend

Well this last weekend I got out my MRSV and went down to see my sister in Eugene, OR. Since I live in Vancouver, WA. it was a nice long ride. This was finally the chance to really check out my new vmax gears and my WarmGear ensamble. Going down their I had a brutal head wind, and just a few places of misting rain. I thought that was a great test for my heated gear, because I stayed nice and toasty all the way down. On the way back It rained like Noah was coming back, but at least I had a nice tail wind. The heated gear worked great both ways. It really kept me warm and comfortable. Let me tell you about those fantastic gears. I absolutely love my new gears. I feel that this is really the way this bike should have come from the factory. I had to always downshift when passing on the highway before the gears, but now, just a quick twist of the throttle and you are flat gettin around vehicles. It's almost scarey what the new gears do for the bike. Any way I just thought that some of you folks would like to know about the rear gears and heated WarmGear.
  19. Thought I'd give a sneak preview of this year's upgrades on Goldie. I'm finally doing the MK2 upgrade of the brakes which includes replacing the front suspension. Here's the shocks as of today, waiting on the rest of the new parts... Brakes and Master Cylinders are already done as well as nice new SS lines. So are the Calipers. Now to install all these nice "Good as new" parts!

    New Ride

Hi to everyone I have been lurking for almost a year on this site and I have finally bit the bullet and bought a 2006 RSTD with 6500 mile on it My last ride was a Honda 750 ACE I have only managed to get 100 miles on the new ride so far but it certainly feels very nice Just waiting for the nice weather so I can try this bike out All the information on this site was very helpful Thanks dkip
  21. I saw a Mid Night Venture heading North on M-24 in Lake Orion Michigan Saturday morning at 9:15 am. 21 deg. On the back of his jacket was U.S.M.C with the date underneath. Anybody from this sight? Sure was a nice week-end.
  22. I have a nice 84 VR with only 33000 original miles that I have taken from mass to Florida via Skyline Drive and the BlueRidge parkway and it has a nice quiet exhaust exept it keeps coming loose. I found someone selling an original Yamaha replacement slip on mufflers for the VR and Vmax that were used and he said they were rich in sound and had a nice rumble. Well they work AWSOME but I can no longer listen to my radio but my water temp is alot cooler and the pickup is awsome. This without rejetting I love the sound and accelleration but I don't know if the people next to me will like me. I have had many bikes and this is the first that an exhaust has made a big difference. So should I put the old ones on and keep peace or ride like hell. TOM
  23. Has any one ever removed the rear trunk on there venture? just woundering what it would look like & how hard to remove it. Pics would be nice.
  24. This may be a Big shot in the dark, but...Wondering if Anyone on this site knows of a guy (that has posted his real nice lookin bike/paint job on his 2nd Gen Venture). I found the pics once, but can't find it again!! It's a Teal color bike (base color) with some real nice murals of Indians and Indian type "things" on it. He also is a Amsoil dealer and i met up with him at some training we both attended in Norman OK. His number on his bussiness card has been changed. Anyone?? Anyone?? I DO know his real full name, but dont think he uses that has his login name on this site. Anyone? Anyone? Dav?
