  1. my wife likes the loud exhaust. used to have a 1500 suzuki intruder with shotgun drag pipes on it. the wife would like the venture to sound similar. any suggestions?
  2. Went to start the bike this morning, hit the switch, turned over a couple of times, then a loud clunk... like something broke inside. I hit the button again and it started right up, no problem, no sounds. What the heck could that have been? Took it down the street... nothing. It ran fine. Anyone have this happen to them before?
  3. I'm looking to possibly replace my stock mufflers. Problem is I don't want to have my ears ringing after a 30 minute ride, or bust other folks ear drums (unless I want to announce my presence). I want a deep heavy rumble at idle with a loud bark if I open'er up. Any suggestions on what type of mufflers to buy, and is there possibly a you-tube site that I can get an idea of the sound? Thanks in advance!
  4. Anyone have these slip ons? I like the look but wanted to find out some more info such as, how loud, any problems with heat?? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  5. My engine sounds real loud while its sitting on the stand, is there a way to make the engine run smoother?
  6. This is only 15 seconds but I can almost guarantee a chuckle.. I laughed out loud. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxJMDzNZWsE]YouTube - why marrying a good speller is important[/ame]
  7. I want to put the stock pipes back on the Venture, tired of the noise but my girlfriend says "NO" she likes loud pipes?? Don't know how to make us both happy!! ha ha Any advice would be appreciated. She is going to be watching this one. DanC OK folks, you all asked for the photos of my girlfriend who likes my loud "PIPES":rotf:I really do not understand how this is going to help YOU GUYS give me good advice concerning my problem-- but by popular demand here they are. Taken at Bike Week, Daytona. PS: She had to approve of these photo. She is still watching this Closely!!!!!! She also picked this color!! GULP!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. How much oil do the rstd motors hold with filter change. Is everybody using yamaha oil filters or something else.Traded my 2002 suzuki 1500 lc yesterday on a 2005 tour deluxe.I like the bike alot seems to have more low end grunt than my suzy did even with less ccs.Cruise control is definately a plus.Do the barons 4-2-4 pipes have the manufacture name stamped on the pipes.I have looked all over the pipes and cannot find it.These pipes are really loud no baffles.Do the carbs have a heater circuit on them to aid in startup. The bike has alittle bit of a whine but i have ridden other bikes that have noises also so it will be fine.
  9. I wanted to get a louder horn for my RSV and didn't have the extra cash to swing for a Stebel. I had read a few comments on here that the Bad Boy's were quiet a bit louder than the stock horn, but not quiet as loud as the Stebel. I got my Bad Boy today and hooked it up. Got all excited and hit the button and no where near as loud as the stock horn. I'm very disappointed, I could have used that money on something else for the bike.
  10. Hi, I have a new to me 96 RSTC with 4x4 exhaust... i know it has the baffles in there but dang is she loud! each beat sounds like the Hammer of Thor ... BOOM BOOM BOOM... and when i "get on it" sounds like a small block w open headers....... is this normal? im only concerned with getting a ticket... other than that i love it... she did pass inspection in PA with no problems
  11. Just wondering what the most quite exhaust is that can be installed on an RSV? Have khrome works now and a bit to loud for me.
  12. My bike is a 1992 Venture Royale. I had thought my TCI is bad, still might be, but I am stumped on what is going on with this bike now. This is an intermittent problem... sometimes the bike works just fine. I have spark at all 4 plugs when initially cranking, maybe for 1-2 cycles and then no spark to any of them. The bike will crank over once , sound like it wants to fire and then nothing else.... If I try long enough I get a really loud backfire. The spark seems like it might be a bit weak also. I'm googling and searching the forum and purusing the manual, but not sure what to check for since it has spark on the initial revolution. Could this be a pickup coil problem.?
  13. I have a 04 Venture. I have had mic-mutes for three years now. Has been working great. Yesterday the wife and I went for a short ride. Right off the bat the communication was bad. A lot of noise and terrible clicking when we hit the talk buttons. One LOUD click when either button is pushed to talk and two LOUD clicks when you turn it off. It is really bad. Not fun at all. I have the driver and passenger seats off and have checked all connections. Any ideas?
  14. For_Paws and myself would thank you very much for taking the short cut when we crossed into Canada .We really enjoyed the ride into the tunnel that was wild and loud Man the Bub pipes on BradT scoot was FREAKING LOUD
  15. 2000 RSV - The guy I bought the bike from this past winter just stopped by work and dropped off the factory pipes. Said he was cleaning out the shop over the weekend and figured I might want them. Question: the pipes on there now sound OK although get a bit loud on the highway and need to crank up radio. Also cackles and pops when slowing from high speeds. Are oems quiet like a Goldwing or?
  16. ***Sound Clips added at the bottom this post*** Hi Everyone! So I spent my time going through the many available exhaust options only to decide on a nice pair of fishtail mufflers. Yep, that's the look I want. I found the infamous youtube video of the Brazilian guy who put them on his RSTD. I thought, boy those sound really good! And wow they are totally affordable at $88.99 each. I figured that if I didn't like them its not much of a loss. So I whipped out my card again and made the purchase on JC Whitney. here. *** I had actually first made my order with Jireh Cycles, as the same mufflers are $59.95. here. However after a week of no order being shipped, I called them up to find out what was going on, politely. They told me that they are on back order, rudely. I asked when they might get them in stock? The guy actually told me "there's no way to know that, probably a while!" I told him that I would like to cancel my order immediately, politely. I won't be buying through them again. Well these awesome looking mufflers came in a week later (shipping to Canada takes a while getting through customs) and I couldn't wait to install them on my 05 RSTD. Literally I was trying to get through the garage door to the bike while opening the box with my keys, all at the same time. Is there any better feeling? I installed the new fishtails in about an hour or so and I was smiling! Oh it looks so good. But when I took off for the day, my smile quickly changed to a worried look. Geez, these are LOUD! I heard from previous posts that they where loud before, but I thought to myself that they probably aren't that bad. Well they are bad. Getting going in 1st is like a neighborhood wide alarm. I had to pass two cops on my way to the highway and the only way I felt comfortable getting by them was riding in 4th going 30km/h (19mph)!! Maybe I'm a wuss, but I ain't no fool. However, they did provide me with much enjoyment on the highway, bringing back my smile for a short-while. Honestly, sounds like a nascar. But I realized that most of the cars that were behind me were staying WELL back from me, probably out of annoyance, and my ears had started to go all fuzzy from the sharp sound. So I rode home and said, that was interesting, time to fix it! I was looking up all sorts of baffles online but I thought that they were mighty expensive for tubes of steel and I can definitely make something for nothing here! So I started the process by knocking out the existing baffle. There is one small tack weld holding the stock baffle in place. You can see it in the fishtail end of the muffler. I ground the weld down and I just took a long metal bar, inserted it into the inlet of the muffler until it rested on the back of the stock baffle and started hammering. Out they came. ***I didn't remember to take pictures during the building process because I was... in the groove... Next time... So instead, to help illustrate, I created some 3D cad models to help explain. Just click on the photos to see a zoomed up version with some helpful notes. http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad85/phertwo/fishtail%20mufflers%20with%20custom%20made%20baffle/mufflerwitholdbaffle.jpg?t=1276018046 Then I measured up the old stock baffle to determine its outer diameter, 1.75". I then went to the local auto store and bough some exhaust tubing. The only stuff they had in stock was 18" long by 1.75" diameter with a tapered end. I bought three of them for a total of $10. I then drilled many many holes along the exhaust pipe (refer to pictures) and spent a good while cleaning the burrs out of the holes. From there I took a washer, welded on some support bars to them and welded that to the end of the tapered section of the exhaust tube. In the end I has some handsome looking full length, straight through baffles. http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad85/phertwo/fishtail%20mufflers%20with%20custom%20made%20baffle/newbaffleassembly.jpg?t=1276018127 http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad85/phertwo/fishtail%20mufflers%20with%20custom%20made%20baffle/newbafflesectionview.jpg?t=1276018177 Then, I slide the baffle half way into the muffler and began to pack in pieces of fibreglass insulation with a thin metal rod. I worked my way to filling most of the muffler with fibreglass before I slide the baffle right into its final position. I just put a tack weld in place to hold the baffle in, but you can definitely install a set screw to make it easier to remove in the future. I was lazy, so I "set it and forget it". http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad85/phertwo/fishtail%20mufflers%20with%20custom%20made%20baffle/mufflerwithnewbaffle.jpg?t=1276018234 Installed the new muffler on to the headers and fired up the bike. Ahhh, perfect! The sound level is at a much more controlled level, lets say less than medium loud. I have no fear of firing my bike up in the morning and waking the neighborhood, no fear of passing a cop thinking I might get a ticket, no funny looks from pedestrians that hate being irritated by overly loud exhausts. The new baffles make the mufflers sound meaty, deeper, less harsh, and pleasant to the ears. I can drive it fairly quiet for the neighborhood sneak out, and can also get it pretty loud when you lay on it - best of both worlds. I am a very happy camper now. One other note for installing the muffler on the bike - I made my own brackets for holding the mufflers in place by using some scrap metal. I welded my bracket to the muffler near half way, and bolted it to the where the stock muffler is hung from. Now you don't necessarily need to do this as the mufflers seemed to hold on just fine with the clamp, but I would definitely recommend making some sort of bracket! These fishtails get much heavier with the new baffles and packing and I would have hated to see one of them get loose and go flying. I will take some audio recordings of the exhaust as it is now. I never took the recordings of the original. If you want to hear what that is like, just take off your stock mufflers and listen to what the headers sound like on there own. ***This is just an experimental baffle design, and I'm sure there is a better way/better design. But this design works quite well and I'm very happy with it. http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad85/phertwo/retro%20tachometer/IMG_8547.jpg?t=1276018581 ...Sound Clips... 17. I'm having a dickens of a time getting audio thru my headsets. When I play XM radio thru the speakers they will draw police attention because it can be loud. As soon as I switch to the headsets the volume drops to less than half. When using the headsets with the CB on and the XM on, I have to have the XM volume so loud it almost causes ringing in my ears just so that I get a faint CB reception. I know there is an answer - I just can't seem to find it. HELP !! btw - I have a Garmin 450
  18. Anyone have a set of these on their scoot? I'm looking at a set on Ebay, but need to know if they're 'Nasty Boy' loud. Better yet, does anyone have a link to a sound bite??
  19. I have aftermarket pipes on my Venture that are way too loud. Don't ask me who made them. Came on the bike and have no markings. Look like bag slash pipes. Love the looks and the tone, just wish they were a little quieter. If anyone still has their oem's or are just wanting LOUD pipes, pipe up! (couldn't resist that) I'd love to get these off my ride.
  20. i've read lots of posts on here about buying expensive pipes , only to be disappointed with them being too loud...and now having to sell, trade ,swap, buy...and be disappointed again.....i did the same thing...with my roadhouse pipes but i found a $5 solution to the problem that might work for others here , if you have removable baffles...........i haven't seen it mentioned here.............aside from having the baffles wrapped.....buy two stainless steel scrub pads and put one in the front of the baffle....to keep the pad from being blown out...i used a vise to squeeze a section of the baffle down....i didn't insert the baffle horizontally in the vise, but as vertical as i could get it...and pretty much in the middle.....this might do the trick for you and save the $300 - $500 pipes you just bought.....worth a try anyway....
  21. Well I got the barons 424 mufflers on and I have the whine, but I'm having too much fun with the loud exhaust to care. The video does not do the mufflers justice, They are LOUD. I'll try to put the go pro on the saddlebags and see if it will demo the sound better. I'll post when done if anyone is interested. I know I like watching videos with the sound of the bike not music. Here's the link....[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axrKx0tG-L4]YouTube- Yamaha Royal star tour deluxe / with barons 424[/ame]
  22. I think my new pipes are too loud, what do you think? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W5mUVyh4l0&]YouTube- Mega pot d'echapement moto[/ame]
  23. I just installed my Tailgunners. What do you think of 'em? They spin like a Gatling gun when the bike is running. They ARE loud. Still trying them out to see if we're gonna like 'em. So far, so good. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3859.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3860.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3861.jpg
  24. At what point is a deceleration rumble called a backfire. When riding in the GA mountains, I had one or two definite (loud) backfires, but in normal riding the low rumble sounds like little backfires (good sound). Is the rumble I'm describing normal? If I hadn't had those loud backfires, I wouldn't even ask. The bike has 3000 miles and I've asked them to check the carb sync once since the first service (of course they said all was good). Any comments appreciated!
  25. I know mufflers have been discussed a bunch on here, but here we go again. I don't want a loud bike, but that sweet V4 needs to be heard a little better. I've read that a lot of folks really like the HD Road King pipes, but what would would sound good (not looking for loud, I just want to hear the bike better) and be easiest to install? Also looking for a bargain.
