1. I posted in Watering Hole, but thought it should be here?? Does anyone have any passenger floorboards for the right side available?:icon_smile_question I need them to so I can attach them to either floorboard on the right side when I am riding--this will give me the extra kick-out I need for my stiff leg. But it also means they can be removed if Big AL is riding my bike, or so they can't be stolen!!!!! Happy to pay reasonable price and shipping
2. So there I am cruising along at 70+mph with my feet up on the road pegs just having myself a good old time. Next thing I know it feels like I'm getting shot with a pellet gun all along my right leg from the knee down to the ankle!! It would seem that I managed to catch TWO yellow jacket wasps with my flapping right pants leg. Them little boogers nailed me about 15-20 times before I was able to stop the scoot and end their sadistic lives. Boomer........who surely looked like a monkey humping a football on that scoot for at least 40 seconds today.
3. Does anyone know of someplace I can get the vent that goes on the right side cover? I can find a left side on Ebay (which I already have one), But my right leg is getting a bit toasty now that summer is here. Thanks Guys.
4. this routine realy sucks, with a bad wheel, takes 5 min to get the leg to start working up 5-6 am,put the dogs out, feed them, make coffee, turn the lap top no,take the pills, dogs back in,laying under my feet, reading all these post,s,put closes on, limp to the barn, take a break, forgot sumething back to the house, turn on the cell ph,to the barn taKe a break, now turn the fan on,make a jug of tea,for latter, hunt for the tools i left out, take a break, forgot what i was going to do,start the bikes, let run till the heat gage moves, need to hall off trash, been putting that off for 6 mo.so guess no big hurry, wheel is a little better,by now, take meny breaks the rest of the day. going back to the doc mon, maybe find out what is causing this, can't realy swing my leg on the bike, feel like a old chapper rider, that don't want to give up riding GUESS I AM DOING AS GOOD AS CAN BE EXSPECTED,AND WITH WHAT I HAVE TO WORK WITH,70,OOO MLS ON THIS OLD BODY lowell
5. ...sure seems like. With another riding season starting. It was time to see how some of the work done would perform. First - I had the Rick Butler seat modification done. Second - New valve cover gaskets. Muffinman gave great advise on doing this right. Third- After 10k miles, time for a new rear tire. Metzler ME880 (I know, I know) Finally got to do more than a short trip today and check things out. I did a 250 mile ride today out into the west desert and to visit some of the old mining towns and have a great lunch (late, about 4:00 PM) - lots a fun though. The seat was great!! Thanks again Rick. After about 200 miles, I felt a little bit in the but, repositioned and never thought about it again. Gaskets, well, I don't see any indication of any leaking after running the bike all day at full temp. Rear tire should be completely scuffed in. I wish the guy leading the ride today was a little move agressive in the twisties but ... I guess I'll just need to go for another ride and enjoy the day. Oh. Normally I get about 32 mpg, on the first leg I got 42.7, second leg 38.8 and then about 34.5 on the way home (with a head wind) I don't know of anything that would really contribute to it but I'll take it. Now, if I can just get the smile under control so the wife doesn't think I'm up to something. Dave
6. Can anyone help me with web sites etc. to purchase a wide leather tank guard WITH NO POCKET OR STUDS I will be using it to protect my tank while I pass my right leg over the tank, and any bits on it could cause me to snag the foot and fall -OUCH !! I have to get on the bike by moving my butt up on to the pillion seat and then swinging the gammy leg over the bike--its' a site to behold  Thank u in advance for any help ____________________________________________________________________ never ride faster than your guardian angel:2133:can fly
7. Me and my wife went for a ride with another friend and his wife yesterday to get a bite to eat, great ride the weather was beautiful, first ride of the season after a long winter. It felt so good to finally get to ride after what seemed to be the longest winter ever, it seemed like the perfect day. I just bought the Venture toward the end of 2008 and i love the bike, it rides great and is an awesome looking bike. Now, i'm not the biggest guy in the world either but i handle the bike pretty good after doing a couple of short guy mods. We get to the local Hooters and of course lots of bikers etc sitting out front on the patio enjoying the nice weather, and i am backing the bike in a parking spot and there's probably 50 people at least looking of course. Everything was going just fine until.............i get a Charlie Horse in the back of my left leg and i am thinking to myself Hoooooly Shhhh.......!!!! The parking lot was sloped to the left so there was no way i could get the bike over to the right especially with the wife on the back and rest on my right leg. I could barely even move my left leg much less raise it to put the kickstand down lol. I finally did it but let me tell ya, it wasn't easy. I thought for sure that my new Venture was going down, scared the crap out of me! I think the only thing that gave me the strength to keep it up and get the kickstand down was knowing that all of those people were watching lol. Anyone ever had that happen to you?
8. Well its probably a good thing I am planning a MD soon. This morning I headed down the road and was concerned about the weather and I felt wetness and it was antifreeze on my r leg. It seems I may have a leak somewhere in the front near the radiator as the water/antifreeze hit me calf level down on the right leg only. It was not a lot and I managed to turn around and get back home with no aissues. Funny thing was the water/AF was never even hot on my leg. I guess I will need to take a very good look to see if I can tell where the leak is and hope its a hose and not the radiator. I did not realise it but, this may have happened last friday as I saw a silver substance on the r sid e engine but could not tell where it came from ant though perhaps it was something someone spilled passing by. I had not ridden since then due to work around the house etc. This time when I returned home I noticed the antifreeze seems to turn silver on the engine. Does that souond right??. If anyone has experienced this let me know what you found. I am hoping this is just an upper hose that just decided to let go.. Now time to go back to the drawing and see where those hoses etc are located and how to get to them.
9. So, I have had time to reply to a few posts this week. Been able to read threads and posts. Why you ask? Because my right leg doesn't bend like the legs of a bird!!!!!!!! I stepped on some gravel at work and landed my right leg against the curb. Tried to flex my toes up against my shin. Heard and felt a pop and fell to the ground. Apparently I ripped my calf muscle. So, I see stars and go lightheaded for about 15 minutes. I rode to work so I figured I had about a half hour before the pain really set in. Got some help and backed the bike out of the lot. Drove home using my left foot with the right propped on the peg. Maggie had the garage open and I dropped the kickstand and she helped me off. Could not use the leg at all by then. Kinda new what had happened. So, now I have a cane and the local old folks with walkers can lap me. Going to occupational health Tuesday for an exam. Been off since Wednesday. Since it happened on base I am not allowed to return until the exam. Goes under worker's comp. And since I work on the 3rd floor without an elevator they consider it unsafe. Oh Well, no lost days or pay. JB Oh. insult to injury - the only pistol grip handle cane available has freaking flowers and vines printed on it!!! I will get something different if I am told to use the cane for a while.
10. Unfortunately, pulling into a conveienience store for fuel at 12pm doing 5 to 10 mph at the entrance I hit gravel and both tires slid out and I was thrown down hard. This happened with 3 other friends on the way to enjoy a relaxing Sat. nite at my mother in laws lakehouse in Interlachin. It was right after we stopped for breakfast and about 1/2 way to our destination. I went by ambulance to the hospital where I found out I broke my leg in 3 places and will need re-conctructive surgery on my knee and broke my left thimb and shattered the socket which will also require surgery. I am now , imobile , in a leg cast and hand cast taking pain medication until Thursday when the ball starts rolling to get me fixed. My bike suffered minimum damage and I know now if I had a crash bar instead of a engine guard my leg would probably be much better off. Also due to this being an entrance to a public area I have an attourney involved also. I am also dealing with this syndrome should I ride again or hang it up, 3 weeks before this mishap I had a car pull out in front of me at night on a damp road, but I was able to save it. That alone really bothered me mentaly. Riding means everything to me, it is my escape, and my love, but I am really going to have and need some time to sort this out . I would really like to hear from some of you that have had similar experiences and how you handle something like this. All I can do now is take 1 day at a time and get through the pain. Last but very important, PLEASE FOR GOD'S SAKE LOOK OUT FOR GRAVEL AREAS, IT'S NO DIFFERENT THAT TRYING TO RIDE ON ICE! I didn't even see the gravel that took me down, it looked liked bleached asphalt.
11. Wow, been riding a good while and this is the first time I ever had a bee in my pants. Riding along minding my own business and pow!! One got me on the right leg about the knee on the outside. Grabbed that bugger and rolled him good in my blue jeans. Thought I got him but about 3 minutes later he got me again on the inside of my knee right in the bend. After I stopped and shook out a big ole red wasp I didn't feel to good about getting my feet up on the highway pegs. But I did anyway. What if someone came up with a little filter to put over your pants leg to let in the wind and keep out them critters? Wind sure feels good running up them britches!!
12. On 26 July at 8:36AM my 06 Venture and I went down on a Exit off I-95 South near Newton MA while enroute to a PGR Mission. My injuries: 4 broken ribs; 4 broken lower back vertebra; crushed left foot;twisted left ankle and knee; lacerations/abrasions to lower leg leg. Venture: $7K in damages. Bike is at Dealership in MA being repaired/restored. I am at home licking my wounds and attempting to create soft asphalt. Ride safe out there my Brothers and Sisters.....that road has no mercy! Boomer.......who failed to complete PGR Mission #103.
13. So, the wife and kids are gone for the weekend, and I decided to ride around town and do a few errands. Take the cover off the scoot, and put 'er into warmup mode. Start to get the gear on, which is only the helmet, gloves, and Venture Royale T-Shirt, 'cause it's just up around the corner. Now I get on the bike from the right side when it's leaning to the left on the side stand. Kinda look like an olympian running the high hurdles. Well let me tell you, I kick my left leg into the air and get it about halfway acrossed the seat and low and behold the right knee decides to crumple like a bag of cheap chips. So there I am madly grabbing anything I can to reduce the pending impact. It ain't gonna happen. I hit the pavement flat on my back like a big sack of potatoes. All I could see was blue. I thought I'd died and gone to the big guy in the sky. After laying there for a bit I realized that, yes, I was still amongst the living. I started taking inventory of all the body parts. The knee hurt like 'H'. The right elbow was scrapped and bleeding. The elbow woulda been OK if I'd had the Jacket on. I waited for one of the neighbors to come give me a hand. No one was around, so that was out. The scoot is still merrily chugging in warm up mode, the lower right fairing sticking about 6 inches out from where it normally attaches to the frame. I think I distinctly heard the scoot say something like 'Dummy'. So it reaches down and give me a hand to my feet. I stand there a bit, and decide, WTH, and put the helmet on, go to the left side of the bike, grab my pant leg and guide my leg over the saddle, go do the errands, come back to the house, pop 2 motrin and 5 aspirins, and sit in the reclioner the rest of the day. So much for working on the '91 while mama's gone.....
14. I've been hesitant to publicize it but Brenda and I leave tomorrow (June 5) for the ride of a lifetime. 1st Leg: Little Rock to Denver (preaching there Sunday) then Yellowstone. After two days in the park, on to Lewiston, ID & Spokane WA for church meetings. Then a few days in Olympia WA (preaching again and visiting with missionary friends) with a quick visit to Canada. 2nd Leg: Olympia WA to Rapid City SD to visit Mt Rushmore and preach for a friend. From there a hard fast ride to Sykesville MD (near DC) to spend a week with my daughter, son-in-law and 3 grandkids. 3rd Leg: From MD back to Little Rock via the Blueridge parkway with a 5 day stopover to visit aged parents in AL. In all, we will hit 22 states and be on the road for 7 weeks. Except for the ride from SD to MD, we plan on taking it relatively easy with a few days on the road and then a few days visiting with friends. The Piggybacker XL is loaded and we are exicted. Maybe we'll see some of you along the way. Lynn
15. :scared:On June 22nd 10:15pm on the way home after 300 mile ride to see our BACA kids.I was reflecting on the events of the day. When all at once a little piggy (200lbs)jumped out of ditch at about ten feet had just enough time to oh! impact dead center 60mph.Woke up sliding on my back ,bike fling over and landing in front of me.I watched it slide into ditch about 30ft.ahead of my landing. At this point i could not that I am concious(no helmet)I usually wear one. When I stand up I realize right eye is swole shut, forehead bleeding, both arms look like hamburger, left leg is killing me and I am in the middle of no where. I here a car coming from the north, my luck it turns off a mile before me. I can still hear hogs around and decide this is not a place to hang around,I see a light south of me and start toward it dragging my left leg and hoping they did not have dogs.Knocked on door and requested 911 waited on heli.Nothing broke just skined and bruised. GLAD TO BE HERE!! P.S. Son just told me it was 3/4 mile to that house. Also I was on the Roadstar,Venture was in the shop.
16. Yes I know its not a Venture sorry But Peg is happy. That matters the most to me!!!! We took it out ridding today and put on 150mi Peg's back did not hurt once. She said it rode better than the GL1500 and the 83 beast was too small for us - me really. Everybody that met Peg knows she is skinny so putting her in the Gold Wing seat made her look even smaller. Now if Yamaha had a seat & backrest like the Wing we would have bought it for sure. The Second Gen. has more leg room we Also like the body style too. But the Wing had more seating room. So we Give up one feature for another I guess you might say. So if you see a Dark red metallic Gold Wing at the M&E or Rallies it will be US outcast... Buddy
17. What is under the front left side lower leg cowling? I know there is a vacuum actuator pump for the crusie control but I do not know what else there is. I need to know this becouse mine was ripped off (along with part of my leg) by a car.
18. :buttkick:I posted a few weeks ago about a guy backing out off a parking space and hitting me. There is over $3000 dollars worth of damage to my bike, and my right leg got beat up a bit. My leg still has some bruising, and a lump that is still tender to the tough. This happened on 10/31/07. They offered me $750 for the banged up leg, and I agreed to that. Now I got this in the mail yesterday. I may not be the smartest guy in the world, but this is very insulting. Do all of you read this the same way I do? If I sign this and send it back. They will give me $750 for the whole deal and no more. Not just for the banged up leg, but for the damage to my bike as well? I somehow get the feeling they think I'm really dumb. http://webpages.charter.net/theskes/Ridiculous%20offer%20from%20Bristol%20West%20Insurance.BMP
19. saturday on our ride to the irish hills we stoped at a bike shop in cement city they sold h.d. honda and yamaha i saw a real nice ultra classic i think it was an 06 it looked great until i sat on it. being 6'4" tall the first thing i thought of as soon as my ass hit the saddle was wheres the rest of the bike? the next thing i noticed was i had no and i meen no leg room it would have been hard to even hit the rear brake i wiil admit it was a nice bike if i was 5'4" waybe:stirthepot: it's been a while since i rode a harley i guess i forgot how small they were or just realized how large my rsv is:stirthepot:
20. Now I'm not the only one that knows so...As you may recall a tornado ripped through our neighbohood on August 24th and brought with it most of the trees that had decorated our yards for many years. After getting our yard mostly cleared with the help of our neigbors on the left side of our house we had voulnteered to help our neighbor on the right side of us.Dave had broke his back a couple of years ago and was unable to lift anything heavy. We had made the day to help clean up on Saturday. Dave had decided on Thrusday that he would get a jump start on cleaning the trees and brush up before the big clean up on Saturday. Jack was outside on the cell phone when he heard screams coming from the next yard. He did not hesitate on busting through the shrubs that lined our drive way and Dave's yard to see what the screaming was about. Jack's first thought was that Dave had cut himself with the saw. What he found was Dave was pinned under a half of a tree that he had proped up with a stick so as to not pinch the blade while cutting but the tree was also still attached the bigger part of the tree. The chain saw was stilling running. Jack turned the saw off and then reliazed that the tree had crushed Dave's leg and the tree was still on his leg. Jack first atempt to lift the tree was unsuccesful and Dave said "there is no way that you can lift it" and with the help of addreline:superman: Jack was able to lift the tree off of Dave and then he was able to call 911. The kids got pillows for him while they waited for ambulance. After Dave went to the hospital ,we ,all the kids and Jack and me went over and finished cutting the tree up and stacked the wood next to our garage. We were able to contact his family and locked up the house. We got a call on Saturday Thanking Jack and that he could not believe that he was able to lift the tree off of him.Dave is back home now and he went to the surgeon on Monday to see if pins will be needed for the crushed leg. This is the picture of the tree that fell on him and Jack lifted off.The big part of the tree that was knocked down was what Jack lifted I always knew that HE WAS MY HERO....NOW THE NEIGHBOR KNOWS IT TO.. Jessie
21. I would like to extend the rear brake pedal forward on my '86 as my legs are long and when I need to press on brake I have to lift my leg to get to it. Any extension kits? Has anyone else had this problem?
22. A number of years ago I met my wife for lunch and when we came out it was raining. I had to park right next to a six lane blvd. next to a telephone pole aabout ten feet from the road. I was in a hurry to put my rainsuite on and got one leg in and was tring to put the other leg in when I lost my balance and fell to the ground. As was my luck the traffice light was red, and about one hundred people were stopped. I looked up and people were laughing. Needless to say I jumped up and didn't look at any of them. Leaned against telephone pole and got the other leg in,got on my bike and left. That was embarrassing! Gene Weir:rotf:
