  1. I finally finished with replacing the handlebars an cleaning up the wiring inside the fairing from all the electrical mods I've done. Changed the oil in the engine and the final drive. Decided to pour in a can of SeaFoam while I was at it. Started the bike to pump some oil into the filter before checking the final oil level. I let it run a bit to warm up good. It suddenly starting running rough and had a little exhaust popping. First exhaust popping I've heard since plugging the AIS a year and a half ago. When I tried to roll on the throttle real quick, it tried to stall. Then I remembered I had siphoned out most of the gas before I pulled the tank. It was probably running on mostly SeaFoam. I added the 4 gallons I had pulled from the tank back in and run it awhile. No change. Still rough with a little popping. I pulled out the Carbtune. They were off, but not real bad. I synced them and things did smooth out and the popping stopped. I could roll on the throttle without it trying to stall. Sound seemed different and the idle was lower than it was, but she was smooth running. Finished up a few things and went for a ride. Power seemed less than I remembered. I had to add more RPM to find a sweet spot. I seemed to be using more throttle. I was doing 80 and decided to see what she would do... made it to 100, but it was a slow to get there. Put about 50 miles on the bike and pulled into a convenience store. Decided I better buy some lottery tickets... might need them to fix this! When I got off the bike, I felt the cylinders. Both front were hot. Both rear were warm with the right rear being the warmest and the left rear just barely warm. Decided to buy 2 lottery tickets. Rode to work today (35 miles one way). Had to fill up before I got there. 22.75 mpg. Now a lot of that was wasted transferring fuel, idling and hitting the throttle hard a number of times, but that can't account for all of it. When I got home this evening, I pulled the left rear plug wire from the running engine... no affect. Pulled the right rear and the engine ran rough. On the left side, I noticed when I put the plug wire back on, the engine RPM would come up a little for a second or less then fall back off. Did it every time. It was like a little fuel made it into the cylinder while the wire was off and burned it quickly when the wire was put back on. I didn't have my tools out or have an easy way to check for spark on that wire, but from the reaction of the engine when I put it back on the plug, I would say it is firing. I pulled the air box that goes on top of the left side carbs while I was working on the bike. I'll check that to make sure I got it seated back in place and all the hoses replaced like they should be. I'll also make sure I am getting a spark on the left rear. Where do I go from there? I don't know much about carbs, but I guess I can learn with some help. Be this weekend before I can do much, though. What really amazed me was that this bike would push my 375+ pounds up to 100 mph on three cylinders and run smoothly while doing it!
  2. I just witnessd one of the worst MC vs Car accidents I've ever seen. It happened right in front of me. I'm south bound on Fair Oaks blvd in Carmichael, in the LH lane with the left hand turn signal on getting ready pull into the middle lane to turn left onto Kenneth, and a rider on what looked like a middle sized Honda v-twin split the lane to my right between my truck and another car that was in the RH lane. Up ahead a north bound car was in the process of making a left hand turn into some apartments. The rider didn't see the car, and the driver couldn't have seen the rider because of where he was coming from. I sat right there and watched him bury the bike into the left turning car. The rider launched down the street 30-40 feet over the top of the car. Pieces of the bike went everywhere, and then it caught on fire. All that's was left of the bike after the FD arrived and put the fire out was a black lump. It took about 15 minutes for the FD and Amb to arrive and the rider never moved. I thought he was dead, but the EMT did talk to him while he was laying there. The rider had a helmet on, and what looked like a riding jacket but I can't be certain. Whew!!!!
  3. Hi all. Just joined today. I have been in touch with Ruffrider who turned me onto this site. He has helped me to locate some needed parts for my 86. Im still looking for one more part. Im in need of a left side upper fairing for my 86. Its black urshi but any color would do. Mine is pretty cracked up. If you have an extra laying around I might be interested. Thanks, Benny
  4. Hi guys, im in desperate need of a left fairing half for my black/uschi 86 royale. Ebays prices always went beyond my grasp. At this point id consider other colors as long as its intact. Thanks all-Benny
  5. I wasnt home but he left a message on the answering machine
  6. I have a warped rotor .. right front... and just wanted to know if they are interchangeable (front to back, left to right, etc.) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  7. Looks pretty good and if that is the true mileage it ould be a heck of a deal. Clutch problem could be the master cyl or slave cyl. Only a short time left... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-1984-Yamaha-Venture-NO-RESERVE-03-136_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6718QQihZ013QQitemZ230238626987QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  8. This might have been posted before but I'm sort of new here. So here it is again Information to Ponder Counter Steering: If you push the left bar, the bike goes left. If you push the right bar, the bike goes right. That is, unless you keep pushing the right bar all the way, then you will probably go left while the bike swaps ends. Crashing: Remember riding isn't inherently dangerous...crashing is. The Sidelines: It's always better to be on the sidelines wishing you were on the track than on the track wishing you were on the sidelines. Fuel: The ONLY time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire. The Rear Wheel: The rear wheel is just a big fan used to keep the rider cool and his butt relaxed. If in doubt... watch. When it locks up or slides out you can actually see the rider start sweating and pucker marks are left on the seat. Too Slow: No one has ever hit something too slow. Rides: A 'good' ride is one you can walk away from. A 'great' ride is one you can walk away from and use the bike again. Getting Hit: They can't hit you if you're not there. Mistakes: Learn from the mistakes of others. You won't live long enough to make all of them yourself. Traction: When traction is sparse, the probability of survival is inversely proportional to the angle of lean. Large angle of lean, small probability of survival and vice versa. Your Brain: Never let a motorcycle take you somewhere your brain didn't go five seconds earlier. Fog: Stay out of fog. The single red taillight you think is another rider ahead that you can catch, might be the red starboard light of a docked boat. Parking: Always try to keep the number of times you park the bike equal to the number of times you've ridden it. Luck & Experience: You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck Mirrors: If all you can see in your mirrors is the direction you were previously traveling intermingled with sparks, and all you can hear is commotion from the passenger riding pillion; things are not at all as they should be. Other Objects: In the ongoing battle between objects made of metal, rubber and plastic going dozens of miles per hour, and the ground going zero miles per hour, the ground has yet to lose. Same holds for cars, trucks, walls and most animals. Draws don't count. Judgment: Good judgment comes from experience. Unfortunately, experience usually comes from bad judgment. Going Forward: It's always a good idea to keep the headlight end going forward as much as possible. Looking: Keep looking around. There's always something you've missed. Laws: Remember, gravity and centrifugal force are not just good ideas. They're laws not subject to repeal. Received via email - author - unknown.

    Seat removal II

Hi, Thank you guys for the response, I did get one of the nuts off, but I absolutely cannot get the other one (on the left) off. The flange seems to be in the way. Any ideas???? Thanks. 2002 Venture
  10. On Tuesday the 25th, there will be a memorial service to celebrate the life of Greg Darling. The service will be at 4pm in Roswell Ga, with visitation with the family from 3pm. I talked to his wife, Valerie, and told her I intend to ride to the service. She said "Thank you. Greg would like that, and no suits, wear your riding gear and bring your helmet in with you!" I intend to leave my house at about 3:15 for a leisurely ride to the service, arriving about 3:40. I would love for any of you in the area that can make it to join me. I think we could stop for a bite to eat after. Dragonrider has said that he will be here and I believe Blackjack and Fly-N-Lo might make it as well. If you would like to join us and would like my address for your GPS, or directions for your 2D Nav, just give me a call or PM me. Below is the info from Valerie's email to me: As Greg wished, there will be a Memorial Service for him as a Celebration of his Life. The service will be on Tuesday, March 25 at 4:00 PM in The Chapel at Roswell United Methodist Church (Building B), Mimosa Blvd., in Historic Roswell, Georgia (where both our sons were christened). Funny story I found, enjoy. Some of us wear BMW style two piece "open chin" helmets - you know the type - where the lower chin piece can be opened by pressing two thumb locks. Some people have also fitted their bikes with electronic cruise control or a version which operates on friction on the throttle - either way they hold the speed of the bike reasonably constant without any input from one's throttle hand. We also all wear gloves which invariably fasten around the wrist with either a velcro flap or a press stud; some of the more expensive types have a zip fastener as well, among other features. Picture if you will, one lone BMW rider with an opening chin helmet and a pair of good quality velcro fastened gloves sailing along the Hume Highway at 115 kph (that's all I'll admit to!!) dialled in on the electronic cruise control. Weather is good, no cars in the immediate vicinity, scenery is boring, no cops, life is good!! Junction of highway with Albury/Wodonga Road about 5 km away, no need to slow down yet; bike is running beautifully!! Looking forward to lunch. Bugger! Is that a bee that just got into my helmet through the small gap I've left for some fresh air? Could be. Well, I'll just open my helmet visor to let him out. Visor up ... no, the little bugger is going to be stubborn, cantankerous even! He's not going to leave and is now behind my sunnies, must be tired from all that pollen hunting. Don't want to be stung on the eyelid-I'll just open the chin piece on my BMW helmet (very handy) and get him out .... let go of handlebars .... squeeze the release buttons bike is nicely balanced and holding line well ... speed steady ... no cars >... this should be easy ... got the helmet open ... glasses off ... piss off bee! ... glasses on ... slam shut helmet ... hands back to bars ---- oh, sheeite! Thumbs of both gloves jammed in helmet!!! Gloves won't move even though I'm pulling like hell!! Wow, this will be interesting... can't quite press the release buttons with little fingers ... junction now 3.5 km away ... I know, I'll just pull one or both hands out of my gloves.... no, that doesn't work: "velcro is good stuff, won't come undone if you fall off!" I remember the salesman saying that. He was absolutely right, they're stuck fast, I'd have to tear my head off first . Well, next brilliant idea, what if I just touched the foot brake --- nooo, dumb idea! That won't work, this airhead beemer has great engine braking and when I get to about 40 kph and can't balance the bike any longer and the dreaded BMW boxer wheel-wobble starts, which it will, I am going to have major tank slappers --- sheeeiite!! I'll be off on my bum so quick and still hanging onto my helmet so tightly they'll have to bury me in it!! Won't do the bike much good either!!! Hell, I can see the junction up ahead about one and half k's away and I am really starting to get the wind up ... tense even ... certain parts are beginning to pucker ... if the lights change to red and that huge B-double waiting at the lights is in the middle of the intersection when I get there, jeeesus, I'm going to be a hood ornament next to that bloody chrome bull dog!! Must try and pull hands really hard ... can I make them any smaller >... 800 metres ... the left one is giving a little ... maybe the gloves are slipping on the sweat now pouring from every pore ... 600 metres yes, yes, that's it, they're wet with sweat ....... I am going to have to hit the footbrake in the next few seconds ... can't hit that @#$*&@ big truck at this speed, it might scratch his duco ... yes! yes! ripper! Got the left hand out ... now hit foot brake to cancel cruise, de-clutch and slow bike with foot brake ... steer for the shoulder ... slowing down ... slide foot... stop ... ease out clutch to stall bike ... side stand down ...switch off bike with left hand, right hand still glued to helmet ...tintops going past must think I've got toothache ... fall off into grass... lay there for 5 minutes till the shaking stops and the adrenaline rush dissipates... now release helmet with left hand and remove sweat soaked head. Breathe out ---- shizer! Was that ever close! I'll buy a Tatts ticket in Albury! When I had recovered, I realised there were two observation here: -No. 1: It's not a good idea to open or shut your helmet when on the move. and No. 2: Did you know, "adrenalin" is brown!! Rod
  12. Ok, just noticed on my bearings on both shafts, only 1 has a full circlip on it(Big bearing on main axle). The other two ( small bearing main axle, opposite end from pinion on drive axle) only have half-clips that are in the lower case half. No parts left in the main case. Is that how they're supposed to be? MamaYama manual shows full clips, the case is grooved for full clips. Inquiring minds want to know!!!!!! Dan
  13. I'm short a left side brake disc, for my spare front wheel. 1989, 1st gen. I bought a set, on E-bay last year, but the left one was Bent. Anyway, if anybody has one laying around, if interested in selling ???
  14. Hey I need some help. I had left my key on too long unattended and my battery drained I called a friend to jump me off and while i was putting the cables on my bikes battery he was putting them on his trucks battery and guess what he crossed them up. To say the least it is now completely dead. Now I am trying to find the main fuse. Where is it? I pulled off the left cover to check fuses and it was not where the manual said it would be, it calls for a 30 amp fuse and there is not one in the fuse block.
  15. I need to have the kickstand cut shorter. Is there a way to remove it without removing the shift linkage and the left side muffler?
  16. Change the plugs in my "06" today and I notice the area around the carbs on the left side (on/off fuel valve side) had alot of oily film, that plastic box that sits on top of the carbs, I removed the top was the same, on the left oily and normal on the right. Don't know what to make of that? Any ideas? Some kind of blow by????
  17. I was wondering if anyone has a set of right side guards off a RSV. I am looking for the engine and saddle bag quards. Maybe off a wrecked RSV that went down on its left side. I have a 07 MRSV so this would be the 2nd gen gaurds. Thanks for the help guys and girls. TheKid
  18. I sold this bike to a friend and he is changing all brake lines and the Front Left Brake Line tied to Rear he can not find and was told that Yamaha no longer makes this brake line. Has anyone found a replacement from some other source.. I mentioned going to a car parts and sizing up.. And never hurts to ask if someone has found one to work. From what he tells me it is close to 2' long.. Joe in NJ
  19. Does any one have a list of salvage yards or used parts venders or ebay stores? I've got my Venture home and have started removing the cracked plastic , left side only damage. I found the side cover on ebay and have already bought it. I'm bidding on the headlight ring and small vent in the front but I haven't found the upper left side fairing. If anyone has one or knows who might have one please let me know. I can probably repair what I have but would rather replace it if I can. thanks
  20. I have an oil leak somewhere one the left side around kickstand.Any guesses? Could it be the o-ring around the clutch slave cyclinder? Also cant seem to stop a leak around the bottom allen screw around the middle bearing cover.Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mark
  21. I'm home alone tonight so I looked in the freezer to see what was in there and I swear we could eat for a year without shopping. I found a few meat pies (Tourtière) that Leslie and I made so I put one in the oven. Boy did that hit the spot and bring back lots of memories too. When my mom died in 1995 Leslie took on the job of baking the meat pies every Christmas. Last year (2006) we made 30. A lot are given to family and friends but I still have a couple left. When they're gone they're gone but I will enjoy every bite and think of the time spent with Leslie stirring the pot while she made the pie shells. I need to look a little more and see if there's any fruit cake left in there...LOL. We made that every Christmas too. I have never had any as good as her's.
  22. Dicided that the time had come for the major operation. With a little help help from a friend (Wizard765) we removed the heart of the machine. Second gear was to be fixed!!! HuH? Where do you find second gear? Couldn't be that hard could it? Must be underneath,,,,,,,,, so let's turn this baby upside down on the workmate and start taking out those little round things,,,,,,,,, yep that works,,,,,,,, oh no what's all this,,,,,,, some forgot to drain the blood first?,,,,, nah just some left overs, thank goodness because you got to put that stuff back in again you know, otherwise it won't run so good,,,,,,,what did you do with all those little sewing up dudads,,,,,,,,,lets put them in separate baggies so we can tell wher they came from,,,,,,,,,,,,now lets see which baggie goes where,,,,,,,,,,,,oh it don't matter, they all fit soemwhere,,,,,,,,,,here, throw them in acoffee can,,,,,I hear that works real good,,,,,, ooooh, lala,,,,,,, we're supposed to make sense of all this?,,,,,,, let's put it back before we forget where it all goes,,,,,,,,,let's just take one more layer off, maybe it will be self explanitory,,,,,,,ya high hopes, now we got more stuff on the bench, how can we work on anything this way,,,,,,,,what's all these pookie looking things,,,,let's read the book,,,,oh that's the gears,, look we found them,,why didn't they mark which ones were second, they all look first to me,,,,,,,,maybe there is another layer that's why they call it second,,,,,I always wondered,,,,,no we did it,,,, they all slid off just like that,,,,,,,,,,did you take a picture to see which one goes on first,,,,,there must be a forward and backwards,,,,,someone posted that he turned it around and it worked just fine,,,,,,,,,,ya but that was the washer not the whole motor,,,,, you don't think it will work the same,,,,,,,after you're done with it you'll need more coffee cans,,,,,,,,just think of all the help I can be to others who are missing parts,,,,might just have the right one left over,, I know, enough of all this, you want pictures RIGHT? First 2 rows are Scamper, or what's left of him. Last three pic, are Goldie undergoing a facelift.
