  1. I saw Lonestarmedic during the week and asked if he would help me get the carbs synced on the ol beast. He called on Friday and since yesterday was supposed to be kinda crappy we decided to make a quick job of it. First thing was to replace the plugs and wires. Those E-bay custom wires are sweeeeeet! (unfortunately they sent yellow). I was determined not to have to strip it to the frame so that made poor JB's job a whole lot harder. Then we got to the battery box. It had never been removed and liked it that way. I I rounded one bolt off, broke another but it came off with only a little skin off both of our nuckles. (that will be another day to repair that). Everything went great after that until we started to sync the carbs. It still had a backfire at about 3500 RPM,s but with the diaphagms still on order I expected it. Then We start cleaning up. JB says "how many plugs did you buy?" "Well duuuh! i needed 4, so I bought 4." Why is there still a brand new one in the box? I had forgotten to replace the last plug while he was threading the wire. Installed that and OMG (oh my Gosh) the backfire was almost gone and I gained 200 RPM's on the idle. The carbs will need another sync after I replace the diaphragms anyway, but between that and fixing the intercom system. He was a miracle worker. Thanks again JB, you are awsome.
  2. I just got my bike put back together after getting it painted. Man it looks good! A buddy of mine painted the tank, front fairing, front fender, lower fairings and saddlebag tops (I'm picking them up tomorrow). I bought this bike last spring - it was totaled. I replaced the whole front end and a few other parts. This paint job pretty much completes the restoration. Now if I could just keep the darn pollen off of it. Anyone in the Carolinas knows what I'm talking about...
  3. Well as many of you know I'm sold my Venture due to economical downturn, but now I feel very sad. Steve W is hour away from Chicago, with his truck, and trailer to take my baby wher she belong, in twisties of nothern Georgia. I don't know I have mixed fillings, I'm sad, but I'm happy, surviving this turbulent times. In bright side Lina is start new job, and I'm hired for new job too, so hope to have another one sun. You gal's and guys pray for Steves safe trip. Love you all.
  4. My sister's son has long been known to have an alcohol addiction problem and has even been trying to land a job in one of their local bars lately in Bozeman, MT. Well, he has some refection to do now as he applied for a job in the downtown area bar of "Boodles", but was never hired. That's good for him as someone else now, (who might have been opening up the bar in the morning,) disappeared when the whole place blew to bits from a natural gas leak: http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa167/hlaltimus/Bozemanexplosion.jpg Story link: http://www.montanasnewsstation.com/Global/category.asp?C=50432&nav=menu227_3

  8. I'm a new 2009 RSV owner and I'm ready to switch out my stock mufflers for the RKs. I've read as much as I can find on here about doing this but I'm unclear on a couple of things. I'm really looking for the easiest way to do this.... If I go to the local HD dealer and ask if they have any stock RK mufflers, is there a particular type I should ask for? What about brackets? Can these be purchased or do I have to grind and cut? What exactly do I need to do this job? Thanks for your help, David
  9. I am retiring from my job this summer after 30 years. I will of course get another job and start a 2nd career but before doing so I have the blessings from my lovely wife to go on a 30 day ride on my RSV. This ride will start at the beginning of August. Due to the heat/humidity I'd rather not go south. Besides, I'm from the south and have seen much of it. I'm trying to decide which way to go-West or North where it should be cooler. Due to back problems I will probably average no more than 300 miles or so a day but maybe up to 400. I'll stay at the cheapest hotels I can find to save money. Anyone have any thoughts on which direction I should go based on personal experiences?
  10. My whole adult life I've been struggling with the question of what I wanted to do when I grew up. Now at the young age of 53 I think I finally know. Yesterday I sealed the deal on a new job which I am hoping will finally put me there. Ever since I got back from my Sturgis trip things have been kinda slow. The projects I've been working on either got completed or petered out right before Thanksgiving and things have been at dead stop since November. Being idle and considering the lousy weather we've been having I have been wrestling with my mental and financial health warding off cabin fever and slow cash flow issues. In the mean time doing my "What Do I Want To Be When I Grow Up" exercises. These exercises pretty much involves making a list of the components of the perfect job and then develop a strategy to find that job and get hired for it. My list pretty much read like this: I want a job that requires me to do the following: Ride my motorcycle Travel to meet other people involved with Motorcycling. Conduct business with people who had motorcycling on their minds, for fun and profit. Attending, covering and participating in motorcycling rides, gatherings and events. Writing about those places, people and events I experienced while doing my job. Getting paid for doing all of the foregoing. Work with other people with similar interest and values. I did not want to have a job where : I had to be stuck inside all the time. I had a set schedule or routine that forced me to combat rush hour traffic daily. I was required to wear a coat and tie everyday. My pay did not represent the effectiveness of my efforts. IMPORTANT LIFE LESSON HERE; Once you decide and can visualize what you want in life, point your nose in that direction and follow it. Eventually you will find what your looking for. So Yesterday, I spent several hours with Jerry McDaniel Owner/Editor of Thunder Roads Magazine of Georgia and as of today will be working for him as a Field Representative for his magazine. Being a field rep includes all of the foregoing but, mostly seeking out Motorcycle friendly businesses in Georgia and enticing them into advertising in the magazine. So, if any of you out there, especially North Georgia members know of any Georgia motorcycle friendly businesses who would like to increase their exposure in the Georgia Motorcycling community through direct market advertising in Thunder Roads Magazine, send me an e-mail and a lead. I'll take all the help I can get to get a fast jump off the line. And do appreciate it. Or, If you have any event anouncements you would like included in the magazine, give me a shout.

  16. For all my friends in Eastern Canada and other areas of North America that are having real serious issues with the job layoffs and slowdowns in their jobs, keep in mind that we are still short of workers in Saskatchewan. If you want to come out here and look for work I invite you to stay here at my place for a few days while you look around. We are so short of workers that our Provincial government is sending another group of companies and bureaucrats and HR people to Ontario next month to try to recruit some of the workers hit by the auto sector layoffs and shutdowns. The StatsCan figures show November2008 jobless rate as still dropping from Oct2008.( I think it is well under 4% here in Regina) There is even talk of a charter plane to ferry workers to and from Ontario for the work week and back home for the weekend for some manufacturing and oil sectors. Here is a link to just one website set up for job postings http://www.saskjobs.ca , and if you want any info on anything about Saskatchewan or a company just call or email me i would be happy to try and fill you in. To everyone affected by the slow economy and a job shortage, my thoughts are with you. Brian

  18. My oldest son, Matt, sucessfully defended his thesis on Friday. Analysis of Acoustical and Psychoacoustical Emission of a Desktop Personal Computer System I went to his defense presentation and I have to say most of what he talked about went way over my head but he did a real good job and I was able to understand what it was about. He has been working so hard for the last 3 years on this project and is relieved that it is finally finished. Now to find a job.

  20. Wayne and I thank all of our Venture family who made the ride to St. Jude's! Our hearts and prayers went with you, and we are so glad to hear that all went well. Great job! Brandy and Wayne
  21. Some people are very bold. There is a escalating crisis in this country. I'm talking about people driving with suspended license,no insurance, and under the influence of something not to mention unsafe vehicles. It seems to be normal for people to drive everyday many crossing state lines. Construction workers, utility crews, etc drinking up the paycheck every weekend with no conscience or thought for what they do or the people on the highway at risk. We all might want to raise our uninsured coverage and just hope for the best. I know several contractors who still have help wanted signs posted. The only qualification to get a job is to have a drivers licensee for a $12 an hr job.
  22. It is time for a update and that I have not kept you all abreast of what’s going on in our world. Linda and I are loving living in Las Vegas, the weather is fantastic and I ride the bike all the time. We ride with some really nice people and we both have bonded with them very well and have made many new friends. If you did not know Linda absolutely loves her new job at the VA and really has connected with her co-workers. We have sold the house in Minnesota (Finlay). The economy is tough all over but really tough out here. There are allot of jobs in the minimum wage range and allot of competition in the better paying fields . I have been hired at Mandalay Bay as a security officer (only took 14 months). So far I have not met anyone of importance yet but I have met some rappers and hip hop players. ( kinda cool) I get to see some real high rollers and we get access to see some really good shows through MGM so its not a bad gig I just cannot gamble on any of there property's. I figure it’s a good thing. Lol So with all that being said I am really excited about this opportunity and the position is a good opportunity and it is a job I might just really like. We have bought a new house and finally got moved in so the last 4 weeks have been kind of hectic. We just got the Internet hooked up with the phone and cable in. We have no TV yet and figure to buy one in a couple months. I want a 60 inch plasma but the NAVIGATOR keeps telling me to think smaller. We are both very happy about the move here and think it was a good decision. Even though we left some really good friends but it opens the door for some very nice visits. Now here are some things we have learned about living here in Vegas. 1.When you ride the bike out in July 07 make sure it is not record breaking temperatures. 2.When it rains it really does pour like pee out of a boot for 5 minutes. 3.The roads flood very fast and do not drive through it. 4.The roads become slick (VERY SLICK) like driving on black ice.(on 2 wheels it sucks) 5.It is a dry heat like opening an oven and sticking your head in it. 6.Make sure you have a job before coming out here. 7.Make sure you change cell to local number. (they will not call you otherwise) 8.Make sure you get a Nevada drivers license right away. ( they will not hire you without one) 9.There are lots of jobs for local established people. (not out of towner's) 10.Before your hired they climb up your butt with a microscope and really check you out. So things are starting to turn around for us and with all the above we are happy with the move. We want to have a VR maintenance day at some point when we get settled. Right now we are fixing the place up. The owner of the foreclosed property was a idiot/ He took stuff and broke walls like a little kid who did not get his way/ Blamed the bank for his misfortune. I have lost 2 homes and many jobs but never acted like this idiot did. But we did get a good price on the house in a great neighborhood. Its more home then we wanted but in 10 years maybe we will make enough to retire.LOL You all are the GREATEST bunch of scooter dudes and dudettes. Hope you all can make it this way at some point because we have a place for you to stay now …….......................................Ron
  23. Found a nice set of floorboards and shifter for a 99 Royal star....how tough would it be to adapt them to my 88 Venture? I'm pretty good at adapting and fabricating things like that, but with the shifter and brake assemblies, it seems like it'd be a tough job. Anyone out there with enough knowledge of both bikes to offer an opinion? Thanks:banana:
  24. Hey Folks, It has been brought to my attention about some of our conversations lately in the site. Let me 1st off say that it is our goal to keep this site PG rated, and the majority of the membership does a very good job at watching what we say on the forums. I'll be the 1st to admit that I am guilty of a few colorful metafors (sp?) so I am not without blame. There have been a few threads that push the boundries lately. We have many new members and perhaps it has slipped through the cracks that we are user friendly here. I know we try to keep it where kids can walk up behind us and we dont have to worry about what they are reading or seeing. I'm not saying to keep it like Teletubbies, we are all grown and we are bikers, many of us use colorful language at work. I'd like to state again for all of us to watch what we say on the forums. This is not directed at any one person, from time to time we let our hair down and sometimes we speak our minds. Thank you to all the members here, you do a great job of self policing yourselves and help keep us on the strait and narrow.
  25. Hop this works, seems like it is harder to do than the job was.
