  1. A few of us have been continuing the thread on the countdown to 4000. We hit that number Jan. 9th at about 10:45pm. Now we're up to May 2nd and we're getting close to the 5000 mark. We're counting down from 257 at the moment. Please no arguments about the number and whether folks get on here or not. I just think it's great that we've had this many folks sign up. I know not all of them are riding a Venture, but that doesn't matter. I'm betting at the rate we're going it's gonna hit 5000 before Don's maintenance day. That's June. So if you like having fun come and count down with us. Either there or here. Unless someone complains. Then I'm sorry. Margaret
  2. Me and the wife went on a 250 mile lunch run today. We wanted Texas Roadhouse badly but the one in Orange Park is usually crowded. We took 90 all the way to Lake City where TRH is rarely packed and we had a great lunch. Getting back up on 75 then I-10, we were running about 80. As I hit Jax and got on I 295, I felt fatigued. So did Jean and she was complaining about a headache. It hit us that the Road King mufflers, which are drilled out, was invading my space and seemed louder than ever. Now, I love the way they sound in local driving, but at highway speeds, it is now grating on me. So, I just might have to go back and install the stock mufflers for long highway trips. And you thought you had tough decision to make in your life, huh?

    Just not my Day!

Well first we missed the water line, hit that one before! Then we found the old gas line but as luck would have it we hit the good gas line and wooooos yep should have call DIG Rite! Man I hate 20/20 vision. I knew I should have went for a ride instead! All this for a patio...............
  4. Bumped.. Thought I'd bump this up before checking out ebay. I pulled my bike out of storage today to start a couple of jobs it needs before riding season. Well I removed the luggage and found the back half of the left saddlebag broken with a large piece on the floor. It must have been hit by me over the winter but I don't remember doing it. Anyway if someone has this for an 84 and wants to get rid of it I'll take it off your hands for a reasonable amount . Thanks Rick
  5. Go out to start the bike at work yesterday. Hit the switch, turns over but doesn't start. Hit the switch again, engine turns and stops (kinda like the hot start issue sound), hit the switch again bike starts. Get on and notice that the odometer is actually on the odometer (I usually leave it on trip 1 and have left trip 2 unreset since I got the bike (to keep track of how many miles I've actually ridden it since getting it.) Both the tripometers are reset to zero. However, all of the radio stations I have set are still set as normal. It was 42 one the ride in and dipped to about 30 in the morning but was about 57 or so when I went to start it. Have no idea how old the battery is. It's a sealed, yamaha branded battery so I figure it's probably the second battery and is, roughly about 4 or 5 years old. It was low enough winter before last to not even turn the scoot over. Put it on the battery minder and it was good to go again and rode with it all last summer. Kept it on the minder every week or so this winter so no problem till yesterday. I'm thinking this is a sign that the battery is dying and the voltage dropped low enough to, have the hard start, reset the trip meters and put the odometer back showing. Any thoughts?
  6. Hi all, Just wanted to let everybody know in this neck of the woods that my web site is down and I don't know how long it'll be that way, so for now; I'll be sitting on the side lines and trying to keep up with things through the wife's web site. Even though hers works and mind doesn't on the same computer, I'll just do hit and miss things without actually knowing what I'm doing if that makes any scense, wish me luck, lol.
  7. 06 RSTD, 22k miles. ridden daily and dealer maintained (maint contract). anyway- went out Saturday morning - nothing happned when i hit the start button. checked the kill switch (was set for run) and neutral light (was green) - kickstand - was down. hit it again - nothing. lights don't dim. horn & signals work! played with various combinations of clutch lever, kick stand, gear position, kill switch, ignition switch - still nothin. in gear - bump the engine several times - more of the same. after a 4 hour wait for the tow truck - but that's another VERY FRUSTRATING STORY!!!! - scoot was hauled to the local dealer. "o yea" says my favorite tech "it started right up when it got here!"... good thing he beleives me - said they'll take it apart and have a look see.
  8. I just noticed today that my left lower fairing has a crack in it. About halfway down going about 2 inches towrds the inside. I can't see any areas where the lower may have been hit by anything. Has anyone else had this problem? The bike is just 3 months old... Jerry
  9. Any members get hit in the big storms around Memphis last nite?
  10. I seldom go on You Tube, but a friend flagged this to me. It is an intersection car/cycle crash where the car obviously ran a red light. This is not for the faint at heart as the biker took a bad hit. But, on a lighter note, there are many more short videos attached near that are down right funny and it is amazing how stupid some people are. RandyA [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a68i-NDjdlc[/ame]
  11. I should get an award honoring the level of stupidity I have managed to attain without the help or influence from any outside source. I went out to the shop this morning to finish putting plugs and plug wires on my bike. (I had done one yesterday.) I was hoping to get it done in time to go to afternoon church service at 2:00. So anyway, having removed the side covers, top cover, battery, tie wiring back all the wires that were in the way, the battery box, the 2 little chrome covers behind the horns, and the horns and having wrestled the solenoid away from the battery box, I changed the plugs and plug wires. Put everything back together and hit the starter. Nothing....nothing. OK, what did I not hook up. So I take it all apart again and retrace my steps to see if I had left something off. Everything looked fine. Got the multimeter and checked everywhere I could think and could see that I had voltage on the battery side of the solenoid but not the starter side. I checked the ignition wires where they go together prior to the solenoid and discovered I was getting .5v when I hit the button. Sumpin serious wrong here. I cleaned all the connections I could find and put it back together. Nothing....nothing. OK, took it back apart and checked all the fuses, more wires, everything I could think of. (again) After a couple of hours I said the H*** with this. I buttoned everything back up and decided to call it quits for the time being. I was standing there staring vacantly at the bike and thinking nasty thoughts about this bike and was starting to dredge up visions of myself throwing gas on it, followed by a match, and then riding off on a new bike, when all of a sudden my vision snapped into focus on the kill switch. WHAT?? WHAT!! I don't believe this!! I walked over, flipped the switch and hit the starter and it fired right up!!! Since I never use the kill switch, I must have accidentally hit it while I was working. How could I have not checked that to begin with? How stupid!! and before you say: "that ain't so bad, could of happened to anyone." I will tell you that this isn't the first time this has happened to me. I should KNOW to check it first.....man....I need a drink!!!
  12. Dang I like the smell of snow. Around here we don't get much of a chance to experience it, but this morning with temps hovering down close to 30 degs and rainy I could smell snow in the air. It's sort of a clean crisp pure smell that hits the back of the nasal passages. It brought back a lot of memories of upstate New York where I first hit the deck. I hoped that we might actually have a few flakes hit the ground, but it wasn't to be. 500' higher up and I'd have been in the white stuff. It's still below 40 degs at 11AM. Who knows?? Maybe tonight???
  13. I just returned from the funeral of John Shockley, he was 46. John was a riding and shooting buddy. He was in Florida for a Goldwing meet and, outside of Ocala, Florida a car in the oncoming southbound lane hydroplaned across the median , hit the guard rail on the northbound lane spun around, and came to a stop blocking a full lane and a half of the northbound highway. It was dark, about 6:40am and raining. John did not have time to react and hit the stationary car in the right rear passenger door. It appears he was traveling around 65 mph. according to reports of the other riders in the group. John was a prankster who enjoyed swiping my motorcycle key just to see how I would react when everyone was ready to go and I couldn't find a way to start Bertha....A great guy and riding partner, I will miss his wry grin and soft manner. I have to believe that somewhere in heaven there is a great two lane mountain road where John and Don Spiker are riding together...Please be careful out there...I can't stand the thought of losing anymore of my friends.....Tommy
  14. Ok since we're playing christmas games here's another one. Have fun. Don't hit the elves. http://www.dedge.com/flash/christmas/index.html Margaret
  15. On Fri there were two crahes in my area. In one of them a rider was east bound when a west bound vehicle tried to pass another west bound vehicle hitting the rider head on. On the other crash the rider was hit from behind on forced into the other lane where he was hit by oncoming traffic.
  16. when it rains it pours, 4 bikers killed on Long Island last weekend......bunch more hurt......... get to work this morning and find we had 2 bike accidents this morning, one looks like the guy hit a deer, one of our officers found him on the side of the road (under the bike)..no idea how long he'd been there, no deer found but they found hair on the front of the bike. Local guy, I kinda knew him, did the tile work in his kitchen a few years ago. Other one hit a deer about 6 this AM, not hurt too bad but the bike is messed up. Another local, don't know if I know him or not yet, didn't get his name. These darn deer are getting tough man...............
  17. Google has implemented a new feature which enables you to type a telephone number into the search bar and hit enter and you will be given the person's name and address. If you then hit MapQuest, you will get a map to the person's house. Everyone should be aware of this! It's a nationwide reverse telephone book. If a child gives out his/her phone number, someone can now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious, and alarming. Note that you can have your phone number removed or blocked. I tried my number and it cam e up along with the mapquest and directions straight to our house. I did fill out the removal form for myself, and encourage all of you to do the same. Quite scary. Please look up your own number. In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to: google (http://www.google.com/) Type your phone number in the search bar (i.e. 555-555-1212) and hit enter. If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information, simply click on your telephone number and then click on the Removal Form. Removal takes 48-hours. Check your own number and although this may not apply to you if you have an unlisted number or cell phone as primary contact, but you may know someone who needs to know this. Please share this information with friends and family.

    @#@@#$@@# Son of !@$!@#@$

Driving home from the Grocery store, 81 y/o in a brand new subaru pulls directly into my lane, panics and comes to a complete stop. Can swerve to the right, so I picked the rear quarter panel and hit him. Up and over the windshield, over the rear of his car and down onto the pavement I go. Sprained neck and back and a magnificent bruise on my left thigh from whatever I hit when I was traveling thru the air. 6 Hours in the hospital, bikes totaled, helmet has some pretty nifty gouges, but hey, other then I'm going to be pretty sore I will be fine. Now comes the fun part, fighting the insurance companies. Hmmm, what a shame the 08's JUST came out.
  20. saturday on our ride to the irish hills we stoped at a bike shop in cement city they sold h.d. honda and yamaha i saw a real nice ultra classic i think it was an 06 it looked great until i sat on it. being 6'4" tall the first thing i thought of as soon as my ass hit the saddle was wheres the rest of the bike? the next thing i noticed was i had no and i meen no leg room it would have been hard to even hit the rear brake i wiil admit it was a nice bike if i was 5'4" waybe:stirthepot: it's been a while since i rode a harley i guess i forgot how small they were or just realized how large my rsv is:stirthepot:
  21. I will make this short until the drugs let me become more coherent. Last friday, Moundsville, WV, 745 pm. crossing through an intersection at 30 mph, I was hit by a 16 year old girl who failed to check or slow down to turn left. direct hit to my left leg. knocked me off my 07 rsv, which continued 120 yards down road with out me. "damn fine bike," I thought to myself watching her drive away as if I was still on her, as I lay on the road. Fractured thigh now has a rod through it, shin had a carbon fiber and titanium external fixture to hold it all together, changed to a rod this morning, ankle and foot both broken, three huge gashes with black foam to pump out fluids. Thanks to helmet and Joe Rocket Ballistic, rest of me is OK. Just arranged for wi-fi in the ICU, where it appears I will be for a while.
  22. or rather , has anyone been keeping a running tally,on the number of downed/injured riders , that we have accumulated this past year? seems to me , that we have had an inordinate amount of "hit by a left turning cager",stories since the server crash. just jt
  23. Just as I was leaving work tonight we had a very massive and major storm roll in to town. Of course when the first rain drops hit to road all the stupid cagers hit the breaks and stopped traffic on the highway. If they had just drove normally I would have stayed in front of the storm. I got hit with massive amounts of rain and then the hail. I caught a weather warning on the radio about 2 inch hail and a tornado warning and a few spotted funnel clouds. Rain I can handle, small hail is fine since I have my riding gear and helmet, but 2" hail and tornado's!! I pulled off the highway and under a gas station canopy. I had left downtown along side a guy on a scooter and was talking to him as we were stuck in traffic. We both stopped at that gas station. The guys at the gas station were nice enough to open the garage doors to the service bays and let us pull in there for protection. (BTW, he rides a Maxi Scooter and he is like Don in that he has started a website and forums for these scooters. (http://www.scootermaxi.com ) We had horizontal rain and very strong winds. I got to talking with this guy and it turns out he lives a few blocks from me and works a few blocks from where I work. Go figure. Anyways the larger hail never made it to where we were and the rain let up after about an hour. We drove the rest of the way in light rain and soaked to the skin. Now I am finally dry and warming up. My wallet's contents are strewn all over my desk drying and my gear is drying in the basement.

  25. Is there a source for turned down tips for stock pipes? When I pull my trailer and really get on the gas I can smell the exhaust fumes. I think it is because they "hit" the front part of my trailer's enclosure and get mixed up in the swirl. Wondering if turned down tips would help.
