1. I am wanting to add some additional lights to the rear of my 05' RSTD. I saw the thread on the Harley license plate light kit for the RSV. Can anybody tell me it this mod will work for my RSTD? Thanks for any input on the subject.
2. Yamaha Suffers Through Rough 1st Quarter http://z.about.com/d/motorcycles/1/0/2/L/-/-/YamahaLogo.jpg We've reported on Harley not being the only manufacturer that's suffering, and Yamaha's first quarter results reflect more of the same unfortunate, industrywide news. Net income for the Japanese manufacturer dropped 22.2 billion yen (or $213 million) during the first quarter of 2008 according to Bloomberg, a whopping 12% decline. The Bloomberg report quotes a senior analyst who reiterates a theme that has plagued the motorcycle industry as of late: "Demand in the U.S. for the company's products, particularly the leisure-oriented ones, are slumping." Unlike Harley, whose 2008 lineup is heavy (no pun intended) on touring and cruising bikes, the '08 Yamaha lineup is diversfied with everything from supermotos to sportbikes to scooters.
3. I'm picking up an 04 RSV and I want to put passing lights up front. I also want the "Harley tail light mod" in back that I have seen posted here here. ex..http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3768 Can anyone reccomend a dealer or mechanic in the area Aurora Illinois who can do that? I know any dealer can do the factory lights, but some guys might not want to do the Harley Lights. Also, can anyone reccomend some specific brand / model of REALLY bright bulbs to use? I really want to see and be seen at night. Thanks
4. This is a waterproof XM radio. I've thought about getting one of these for awhile but since it's a Harley product, the price is a ridiculous $250.00. I found this one used on E-Bay for $75.00. The guy switched to Sirius. http://buzznet-86.vo.llnwd.net/assets/users16/marinerfan/default/Road_Tech_Radio_004--large-msg-120942759465.jpg He didn't have the handlebar mount since it was attached to his fairing. It was perfect for me since I already had a Hoon hardware mount for my Delphi Roady 2. http://buzznet-58.vo.llnwd.net/assets/users16/marinerfan/default/XM_Radio_002--large-msg-120896983532.jpg It has a built in 1/8" audio output jack so that is perfect. The power supply had a plug but the owner had cut it. He included the plug but it didn't work for me anyway. I simply hooked it up to 12 volt switched power and everything worked great. I must say that it's a very nice unit. Totally waterproof and has big buttons so that you can use it with gloves. I think price of a new unit is too high, but if you can find a used one like I did, it's money well spent.
5. Well we went for our ride today.. Al, Thomas, and myself(Brian)...Now in this first picture you will see 2 Venture riders coming to aid a Harley rider(my friend Al)..... With what tools we had on hand we managed to repair the Harley..Look at the linkage for the back brake... It was actually quite a serious problem but luckily Al was able to lift the brake peddle before it caught on something in the road to catapault him.. Yes as we got closer to the lake Erie shore it got colder and colder(as Carl had said) but we did make it to our destination... As you ride along this Lakeshore road these giant wind turbines are scattered all about the farmers fields, looking very much out of place with the surroundings.. They go on for miles, I have no idea how many there are, I have seen at least 30-40(or more) on a previous longer ride.. http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=42.615265,-80.662308&spn=0.215264,0.464172&z=11 Lakeshore road between Port Rowan and Port Burwell.....Can give GPS too if needed..
6. Yesterday my boss dropped his beautiful Harley in a accident. He was following a bread truck and his view was blocked to the events unfolding in front of the truck. A vehicle stopped suddenly causing the bread truck behind it to lock up all 6 wheels in a skid. My boss dropped his Harley trying to avoid hitting the bread truck. He walked away from it with only scratches and bruises but his Harley is a mess. His wife trying to make him feel better said it's only a bike I'll buy you a new one. He said no it's more then a bike. This was my FRIEND.It's more then a machine. It has a soul. Women just don't understand.
7. Hello all, this is my first attempt at a post. Been reading and observing for two or three months now and would like to say thanks for all the information members share on this sight. I've read the harley r/k mufflers will fit rsv, I have a neighbor that has a set of harley electra glide mufflers for sale cheap. Will these fit a 07 rsv? Thanks Scott from Il
8. I said long ago that Harley might do well to build a touring bike around the VRod engine. I expect they will do so at some point but at least one person got tired of waiting. Here is what he came up with.
9. I know I promised pics and now I have them. 95 Harley Heritage Classic with 15,000 miles on it. Boy, I hope this works!!!!!!
10. I am thinking of installing a Harley Ultra or similar type tour pack on my RSTD. Does anyone have any experiences to share with similar mods? Any ideas about using the existing quick-detach sissy bar hardware would especially be appreciated. Thanks in advance! Bob LeDuc Calgary, Alberta
11. http://www.nascar.com/2008/news/features/02/28/kpetty.bike.ride.kschrader/index.html Just read this article about Kyle Petty (Harley Classic) and Ken Schrader (Suzuki Boulevard) riding their bikes from Daytona to the next Cup race at Fontana, CA. Kyle says hes riding a Harley now after riding a Victory for the last couple years. There is a picture in the article of him riding a Vision, must be an old picture. Anyone know why hes not riding a Victory any longer?
12. has anyone out there used harley rails on their 2nd gen i see alot mor harley rails on ebay then venture rails .and if so was there alot of modifing to them to get them to look right ? its one of the last things i want to put on mine
13. Does any one know where I can purchase red turn signal lenses for the rear of an RSV? I want to purchase a run-stop-turn module and will be needing red lenses.I know I can get red LED's ,but don't want to use a load equalizer and I like the self canceling turn signals.I have seen them on other member's bikes on this forum, but can't seem to find them anywhere.I also thought about using the Harley accessory tail light, but don't know if they could be wired to also function as turn signals.Any help would be greatly appreciated, such as where to buy, part #s,etc.
14. Harleys have always been known by their cylinder head configuration: The Pan Head The Shovel Head The Knuckle Head And of course the Block Head, you haven't heard of the block head??? Well maybe you know it by a different name.... The EVO, Give me a break the EVO was made by saturn and you had to plug it in every night, the latest incarnation of the Harley engine is what it looks like,, a "BLOCK HEAD". This really irritates the Harley rider that has dropped 20k + for his new dream bike and it is known as a "Block Head" so next time your Harley friends get on your nerves or you just want to watch them get indignate, comment on how much you like that new Block Head engine design Or how the Block head engine reminds you of the Pan Head design but uglier Just my little bit of insight to brighten your day:bighug:
15. Does anyone know if the T-Bag Dekker Supreme, made for Harley truck racks will fit on Yamaha's Venture trunk rack ? If not, what other large luggage bags are available to sit on top of the RSV truck rack. Many thanks, Robert
16. A friend of mine has two bikes. A kawasaki drifter and a swift chopper. He decided to trade both of them for a harely street glide. The harley dealer here in Albany, GA wouldn't take the swift chopper because they couldn't find a value for it. The female salesperson offered to take the kawasaki on trade and gave my friend a price. She wouldn't give him a breakdown as to how she arrived at the price of the harley. My friend went to another harley dealership about 45 miles away that is owned by the same person here. They offered my friend $500.00 more for his kawasaki. The next day my friend called the harley dealer here and said he was ready to trade. The female salesperson in a very rude tone said there was no deal to make. The deal she gave him was for yesterday only so she wouldn't sell him the harely and take his kawasaki on trade. My friend said that was ok but he would get a harley from another dealer. He went to tallahassee, florida and the harley dealer there offered him the same trade in value but was selling him the street glide for msrp which is $19,000.00. It was then that my friend realized that the harley dealer here in Albany, GA was charging $3,000.00 above the msrp. He closed the deal with tallahassee and brought the bike home. That was friday. Saturday my friend and two of our mutual friends asked him to go to the local harley dealer so they could buy him something for his new harley as a gift. When my friend entered the harley dealership he was met by the sales manager who grabbed his hand but wouldn't let go. My friend finally pulled his hand away from the sales manager and said is there a problem? The sales manager said yes, the owner doesn't want you in this dealership so you need to leave. The sales manager said you bad mouthed our salesperson so you are not allowed in this building. About that time the owner came out and my friend asked to speak with him. They were having a civil conversation and my friend told him the only problem he had was that the salesperson wouldn't show him the breakdown she was using to come up with her price. The owner said well you came in here and got a deal and then went to another dealership so we don't won't you in our dealership. About that time the female salesperson came out of her office and started yelling at my friend "you think you are a big man don't you." My friend talkes with this hands sometimes so as he was talking to the owner the salesperson told him he better get his hand out of her face. Another friend was next to him, he is 6'6" tall and weighs 320 pounds, and he said come on let's go, it's not worth getting this worked up about this. My friend left the building and after he was out the door another friend who was still in the dealership said the salesperson said , "we don't need prick's like that in here." The owner finally told her to shut up and get back in her office. I thought I had seen it all but this arrogance takes the award.
17. For those of you who went the IMS show in your town, is it me? Or was it a disappointment? Went to the show at the Javits Center in NYC yesterday. I went to look at several different brands, BMW and Victory mainly........I'm glad I went because I was severely disappointed with them, RSVs? I really don't like this years colors. Harley had the most appealling bikes and I'm ot really a Harley guy. Vendors were boring too.
18. Anyone know where I can get a Reese style hitch for my Harley ultra. Snake
19. As to what our Harley riding members think about the Bad Santa commercial that Harley is airing? Personally, if I was still riding a Harley (or even considering going back to a Harley), I would be really off put by it.
20. Hey did anybody see this in todays news about Harley Davidson? http://www.topix.com/com/hdi/2007/11/motorcycle-maker-shuts-down-some-production-for-one-week I hear they will be having a big sale soon. Peggy:big-grin-emoticon:
21. I'm thinking of doing a stage 3 mod to one of the two sets of Harley pipes ( I don't know the part #'s of these pipes) or a set of stock pipes I have. The harley pipes are a bit louder then the stock pipes one of the sets being a bit louder then the other. I'm now running a set of turned out mufflers from JC Whitney PN ZX017037U which make the bike sound real good and they turn the heads of Harley rides. The JC Whitney's a 3 years old now and a bit beat up and they look bad on a new 07. My harleys are still in good shape and of course the stocks are in A1 condition. My question is does any one have a sound clip of the stock pipes or harley pipes that have had a stage 3 mod done to them? 32"longTurned Out MufflersZX017037U
22. I not knocking harleys but just had to tell you all this story. A friend on mine bought an 07 street glide. He paid $400 for a sprocket that harley says will eliminate the vibration. After installing the sprocket the vibration moved to a higher rpm instead of going away completely. My friend went back to the local harley dealer and told the service manager he wasn't going to pay $400 for something that doesn't work. The service manager said lets go back in the shop and talk to one of the technicians. When my friend explained his problem to the certified harley technician the technician replied, "It's a damn harley it's supposed to vibrate." My friend is very upset.
23. I have owned a couple of sport touring bikes. What I always liked about them was the fixed fairings. I could go 90 mph, hold the handle bar with one hand while resting the other hand on my hip, and go as straight as an arrow, cutting through wind like a knife. I also owned a Harley. You couldn't ride a Harley like that. It was both hands on the bar. It always felt as if the handlbars would rip out of my hands when I rode with one hand. The RSV does not have a fixed fairing. I suspect the feeling is going to be similar to riding a Harley. I am almost sure of it. Would someone comment on this?
24. Hey today is Friday........I was assured by the Yamaha folks that my Clutch Basket would be here this week......well we have about 8 hours left......I have been patient......quite so I think........even found me a new dealer who is quite nice.....but still he is dependent upon Yamaha. I am not sure what the deal is with this clutch basket.....whether they make a whole new one.....or blueprint one already made......hey do not care anymore.........I just want it fixed. My Basket full of Crickets completely quits at high speeds..say 65 in 4th and on up to 75 in 5th. Smooth as silk......Hey I do not ride that fast much.....only if wanting to go somewhere and I hit the interstate....normally I love the back roads......take a long lazy ride.....55 mph tops......do the speed limit......keep one eye on all the passing impatient cages. That is how I like to ride. At these speeds the whine is very high pitched and annoying....... So today is the day of decision.......if they do not call me....I am done......the Venture is a nice bike.........but hey.........that screaming eagle down at the Harley shop is looking better and better........I may find myself going in just to look again today..... So what do you all think........think you can handle an old school Harley Rider with a sense of humor? I am used to making head gaskets out of a Tide soap box.....but hear testing has been done and Fab boxes are much more tear resistant..........:stirthepot: Kit
25. Just a quick question on which will provide better fit? I'm 5'10" and have a back problem and want the bars a little higher and back to my more natural arm length and back support position. I already have a set of Harley Bars (Don't ask) and I am wondering if they may be better or worse than the Flander set up I've read about here. Any feedback is welcome.
