    Venture leads the way

Yall would be so proud. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/ride-time/IMG_1176.jpg Went riding with a bunch of buddies Sunday...once again, I was asked to be 'point man'. I took everyone on a short ride around some of the more scenic areas in Amarillo, and led them to the top of this little hill that is northwest of Amarillo. I pulled over at the top, and although its hard to see, my 2007 Venture is at the front. All the other bikes are Harleys. Three ElectraGlides, a Fatboy, a Sportster, and a RoadKing. You can see the Amarillo skyline in the distance. Granted, these guys know I'm good at running 'point', and they know that I'm very familiar with the area. Still, its a hoot when your the only metric rider with a small herd of Harleys following. Kinda fun. I tried to get some video of the ride, but its hard to do when your the one in front, riding solo. Then my camera batteries died. Oh well. First order of the day was a big biker breakfast at a place called Cody's, on the north side of Amarillo. Huge pile of food, and we all just toss in a few dollars to the cook. Then we made a few stops at some watering holes, and ate some free food, including calf fries, at a redneck dive called the Ranch House. All in all, a good time was had by all. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/tx2sturgis/ride-time/DSCN0937.jpg So...any other Venture riders wanna come along next time?
  2. After a life long dream of having I finally got!! 1986 Venture Royale. Does anyone know, can tell me, will the plastic off an 83 fit on an 86? Where can I get the remote radio controls for the left handle bars? How to cure a "hard start" on cool (not really cold) mornings? Yes, as you can see, I am new to the Venture thing. But hopefully with the help of some veterans, I will be out and riding very very soon. Thanks. Ohedron42 merlin
  3. Well, finally was able to go for a ride this morning ,after a long winter . Just could not wait to go for a ride whit these new tires. Man what a difference ,smooth ride even whit a 39 lb in front and 41 lb rear , will never go back to those Brickstones , they don't last so long and are as hard as rock . Got these Elite 3 from your side of the border ,had them installed at a performance shop around here . Now let's hope they will last longer than the OEM ones .
  4. Anyone have a sidecar mounted? Just hooked up a Motorvation Formula II and would like to hear how some of the hard steering issues have been solved. Thanks, labill
  5. Broke the selfadjusting clutch cable on my Saab as I pulled into work place last night. Put it in 1st cranked it up and started home. You can usually shift one like this if necessary. Why is the Saab so hard to shift this way??? Went in smooth once in a while but hardest one I have ever shifted this way.
  6. I am currently in the market (mainly researching right now) for a good one and/or two-up bike that can be used for local and long distance riding although I do not want a full dresser. The RSTD is one of a few models that has caught my eye that I feel might be able to serve my purposes. I am wondering, however, if there is a hard top case that can be fitted to the RSTD. Can you fit a Venture top case onto the RSTD or is there an aftermarket case that works (& looks) reasonably well? Also, I see that the RSTD is carburated for '08. Does anyone know if '09 will bring FI? All input is very much appreciated.
  7. Just popping in to let people know Im not dead, or locked up or anything. Just busy busy. Ride hard, have fun and stay safe.
  8. Hey all, This is my first post. Mostly cause there is 100 feet of 2 feet deep snow between my bike and the driveway, so even thinking of the bike depresses me:-) What a winter!!! ( I walked out to the shed this morning and the snow is rock hard. Hardly made a footprint so no hope of shoveling it) I really like this site. I have found answers to many questions just by reading the forums. I ride an '07 Midnight Venture. Love the ride. Had an '85 Wing before and there is no comparison. My wife doesn't hound me to pull over after an hour on the road any more. Some days I can't get her off it... Question is: What is a good pump to get for the air suspension? Especially the front. They are hard to get at and because the pressure is so low, just disconnecting the air hose changes the pressure drastically. Tried the dealer here but they aren't much help. Thanks, John
  9. I'd like to hard wire the power source for my XM, and i've searched a couple ways to do it that look straight forward. My question is, the power cord that I have now indicates 5vdc, is there some sort of resistor in the cigarette adapter that lowers the voltage to the unit, or is that just a minimum and will run off 12vdc no problem? Thanks Joe
  10. okay folks, i need the very best helmet speakers money can buy. they must have a broad frequency range with good bass responce. ive got a soso set but i'm half deaf and certain frequencies are hard to hear. where can i get some. just put a new sirius radio on my vstar and i want to be able to here it.
  11. How is your new Wing working out? If Yamaha does not upgrade the Venture for 09 I'll be taking a real hard look at Honda for sure.
  12. I know like hard seats but these guys are a bit on the extreme side. At least they thought of brakes.
  13. Man I had a close call tonight on the way home. I went for a ride with a friend who just got a new bike. The weather was nice so I figured I would take the chopper out and blow the cobwebs out of it. So on the way home I was running 70 on I 95 about three car lengths behind a pickup truck when a large steel truck hub cap flys out of the back of the truck headed directly toward me about head light high. All I could think of was if this thing gets under me I am going down hard. So I jogged right and as it passed I fined it off with my left foot and leg, man did that hurt. But over all this could have been a very bad day. I guess the Big Guy was looking out for me today.
  14. well as much as i hate to say something bad about crotch rockets. 2 and maybe 3 kids learned a good lesson today. they passed me like i was standing still on i-270, heavy traffic, weaving in and out. about 15 minutes later i saw red lights along side the road and 2 of them were on their knees next to their bikes in hand cuffs. came back by a little later and they were loading the bikes on a car hauler. guess their riding days are over. they will probably nail the one that got away later. i imagine they broke a whole bunch of laws before i saw them ,and the cops were waiting for them. can't really go off on them, i did a little stupid stuff like that when i was young. i just did'nt have as fast a bike. i learned the hard way to.
  15. Well I quit for the night. Had it all together with an extra spacer washer to take up some of the slop on the driven gear, then after I torqued it all down the tranny was stiff and hard to turn, so I took it all apart again, removed the washer, set it up loose and verything was ticka di booo. Put the bolts back in, after cleaning everything again and new gasket stuff, and now it's the same again. It's hard to turn and a real bugger to shift, feels like it's jumping through the rotations. Any ideas?? Is this normal until it gets full oil or should I look for something else?

    My Venture Trike is Gone

Just thought I'd let y'all know that I have finally sold my venture, trike kit and all! I have not been terribly active on the Venturerider site due to other time commitments, but I did want to thank you all, especially those who contributed all those techie articles that tended to improve on the design of the Venture, and I also enjoyed all the chit-chat and exchanges. My wife and I even got to attend one Meed 'n Eat in western NC... those who were there will remember the Midnight Venture with training wheels Anyway, I'd like to stick around a while if y'all don't mind... I will probably not be buying another bike, but you never know. I've been riding for 55 years, and old habits are hard to break. Thanks to all who made this site possible, and those who work so hard to keep it running smoothly... God bless every one of you and above all, RIDE SAFE!!!! Charlie
  17. I decided to drain the antifreeze yesterday. Everything went well, drained the radiator, cylinders, etc. but when I got to the water pump I couldn't believe how hard it is to get to the drain plug out. Do I need a special wrench? Do I need to take the exhaust pipe off? If it is the exhaust pipe that has to come off then the bottom screw on the pipe is just as hard to get to. Am I missing something? What if I don't drain the water pump? Harry
  18. Before I start running all over town, is the fuse strip in the main fuse,a hard to find or easy to find item? If easy ,where? If it's a hard to find item what amp fuse is it and I'll just replace the fuse holder with a different kind. Thanks
  19. Hey guys, my 84 is giving me a fit. I had her out of the garage yesterday and was waxing her, added a little oil, fixed a broken side cover and just getting her ready for a ride. Before I did this I cranked her up and she ran fine. After doing her grooming and upkeep, I cranker her, she started very hard, reving the engine is very slow and she backfires a lot. She wont idle on her own. What do you guys think? I have checked over everything I did and cant find a thing. Thanks
  20. Specifically from people in South Carolina. Will have a place to stay temporarily, and I'm starting to struggle with getting rid of stuff that I don't need and really don't want to move, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the long distance job search thing. Any ideas? http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/images/misc/progress.gif
  21. I remember recently reading threads that talked about computers crashing and people losing all kinds of stored info pictures, files, folders, etc. We had our computer crash on the Th to the point it wouldn't even restart, all we were getting was a blue screen. We had knowledge of a small computer shop locally (Practical Computers Inc.) a husband & wife with a couple of employees, anyway they have been around for a long time. We took seven years of our life to them in a dead tin can on Monday the Th and and got it back on the RD with a like new hard drive, double the memory and all of our stuff we thought was lost is still there, and we have the old hard drive if they missed anything (they said bring in the old hard drive and they would find it). Yes it cost $150,00 to have it fixed. If I would have installed the new $45.00 CD writer two weeks before the computer crashed (it crashed while putting the CD writer in) we would have had the capability to save things to disc so we wouldn't have been taking a chance on losing them later. Live and learn. Put a disc writer in your computer so you can download your memory's. I hope this will give some of you a reason to smile as I'm sure there is a computer repair shop that can save your memory's too.
  22. Who has installed a Sat radio on their bike? What type did you get? What mounting system? Did you get the type that transmits to the radio, use the accessory plug or hard wire it? Any and all info would be appreciated. Thanks.-Jack

    Stabil

To Stabil or not to Stabil. Up here in N. Mich. the RSV sets in hybernation for 5 months or so. I have always put stabil in the gas and filled the tank before putting to bed. The fella that we bought our RSV said he never used it because it was hard on rubber gas lines and plastic parts. I personally don't agree. What is your opinion?
  24. I am new to this website and new to RSV. 25 years ago when my daughters were born I quit riding. The Girls are married and it was time to return. Two months ago I bought a 2000mm, I have loved the looks, styling and was patient and willing to wait for one to cross my path. Everything that I heard said this was the best ride out there especially for the passenger. Because I was away so long, I took the advice to get my ride skills back so in the last 2 months I have put on about 2,000 miles (city & highway) and feel comfortable with my skills again. However, I have been reading on this site the last couple of days how hard it is to carry a passenger. I am very confused, did I make a mistake or was my research correct? When I get my wife back the bike after 25 years and we lay it down, there may not be a second chance to make a good impression. The question is this, is it that hard and what are the any tricks?
  25. Time to get up on the old soap box after what I experienced in Charleston SC this past Sat. It seems Charleston has a new city ordinance, no motorcycles are allowed to park in public parking lots or garages. I found out the hard way, entered a parking garage and was chased down by an attendant and told to leave. After a brief discussion with the attendant I was informed of the city ordinance. I have made some inquiries into this matter and was informed that, get this, motorcycles are clogging the streets of Charleston and creating too much noise. I'll concede on the noise part, but clogging the streets. So, instead of ticketing offending bikes with loud pipes, they choose to discriminate against all bikes. Well, I was told I could park on the street in the metered spaces, which run for two hours before you need to put more change in. My time ran out and I ended up with a parking ticket to boot. To put it bluntly, I was totally pissed. Ruined what should have been a wonderful day. So now fellow Venture Riders, do we really want to go where we are not wanted? As much as I hate it, I won't be taking trips to Charleston, if they don't want my bike, they must not want my hard earned money. I plan on spreading the word to as many forums as I can. May even send a letter or two to a few magazines. Please feel free to tell others about this, I would like to think we as a group can change some attitudes towards riders. Let me know your thoughts. Thank you.
