    to those on facebook

Friends: Facebook does not appeal to me, never has. I tried it, added one or two friends, and I have only made a couple of entries in 3 years, and only checked it about twice a year. Now we hear of all the politics and corruption, and security problems, and now to top it off Mark Zuckerberg, a billionaire and co-founder of FB, called the users of Facebook, and I quote: "Dumb f**ks". ( he used ALL the letters!) How can you stay in a place like that? I prefer MySpace because its rich in media content and I've met many good friends there. Sure, its not perfect, but good enough for me! I plan to stay on MySpace. Below are several links dealing with the problems of FB, and quitting FB, or heck, just google "how to quit facebook". I know some of you are addicted and will never quit. At least look at some of these pages and then make your decision, with full knowledge of the outcome. ______________________________________________________________________________ http://www.businessinsider.com/well-these-new-zuckerberg-ims-wont-help-facebooks-privacy-problems-2010-5 http://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-myspace-busted-for-telling-advertisers-which-specific-users-clicked-on-ads-2010-5 http://wcco.com/goodquestion/quiting.facebook.question.2.1701767.html http://www.newsweek.com/id/183180 http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-quit-facebook http://www.wikihow.com/Quit-Facebook http://techguylabs.com/radio/ShowNotes/Show668#toc3 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_y7mMlKgjY]YouTube- Leo Laporte Deletes His Facebook Account[/ame]
  2. 14 bikes took a nice ride yesterday to the route 66 red carpet ride in Illinois. It is a festival celebrating the mother road. We had such a great ride with great friends and perfect weather. Museums about the history of the road and sights along the way.
  3. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNIE Hope you have a great day your friends Rick & Shirley
  4. I have read about the problems with the 06/07 2nd Gens and the basket whine. I know that friends don't let friends buy 2nd Gens ( hey just couldn't resist ) But my friend wants me to go look at an 06 with 53K miles. Supposedly they want $4,000.00 for it. The price seems good, even a little low. What should I look for on an 06 ? What speed is the whine audible ? Anything else ? Probably no records as it is being sold at a local pawn shop and they have had it for a while. If I get the VIN, wouldn't the dealer be able to pull records ?
  5. I've never really been a fan of Facebook because I feel it is just too intrusive into our lives. I have an account with a few friends that I don't really use or post on. I look at it once every couple of weeks and see updates such as info on an aquaitances kid's last bowel movement or similar dribble. Here is something I discoverd today and you facebook users may already be aware of it. I was having lunch with coworkers which included my manager which is nothing unusual since we do that most days and we're all friends. Today my manager is looking at his phone and he says "I see you read a couple of articles last night". I questioned him about that and apparently Facebook had shared with him what I read off of Yahoo last night. He quoted me 4 topics which were correct, I had read them. Now I find this a real invasion of privacy. Since he saw that I have to assume all of my other "friends" saw it too. Now what I read wasn't anything significant, just Yahoo headlines. However, had I been searching for a new job or reading how to deal with managers, etc. That could have been awkward. If I read something of interest and feel it is worthy I'll mention it to my friends. I don't need Facebook automating that for me. So tonight I have gone into Yahoo and Facebook and turned on or off any security setting I could find that shares any information about my online activity. And if I find that doesn't fix it I'll delete my Facebook account. Dennis
  6. We will be spending several days with friends in Bowerston, Ohio this spring. They don't ride so they don't know what kind of roads to look for from Bikers. Since I ride a Venture and not a Crotch Rocket, I am looking for midly curvy roads to 'cruise' on, NOT race. Also, any local sights or places of interest. While our friends are at work, we planned on cruising the local area, 'sight seeing'. When we were visiting them last year, we learned of a couple of customs that were different from ours here in Omaha, Ne. - They like vinager on their French Fires, and have something like 'Hot Bacon dressing' for their salads!! BOTH of these really surprised us and we LOVED them. So, while we are out sight seeing, I would like to find some local places to eat that are either differrent or just plain ole VERY good food. We are getting tired of eating at 'Applebees' or other chains everytime we go out of town. So, I thought some of you folks might have favorite places you could point us to. Any suggestions are appreciated, craigr
  7. After 3 trips to the muffler shop and 4 hours total labor I got the roadkings on my 86.Got the pipe and the bends for free.Nice to have friends.
  8. I have two lady friends who want to travel to the U.S. next year. They want to go to Sturgis and then tour around. What they want to do is purchase two bikes with buy back at the end. they will probably fly in to L.A. Bikes they want: Naked sport bike. MotoGuzzi 750-900 preferred, as that's what they ride now. But any Naked bike similar to this is okay. For around $2,000 Can anyone help with information?????
  9. Back to Hill Country for the next three months! Looking forward to seeing our old friends and maybe meeting some new ones too.
  10. Dear Santa, I don't want much for Christmas, I just want the person reading this to be happy . Friends are the fruit cake of life - some nutty, some soaked in alcohol, some sweet - but mix them together and they're my friends. 12. Col Ralph Parr is a Double Fighter Ace; Fought in WWII, Korea & Vietnam. Before starting you should get your favorite beverage for this is quite a long read but it Exemplify the American Fighting Spirit. He shares one experience where he single handed took on 16 Mig-15s. http://www.goldengatewing.org/proptalk/speaker.cfm?ID=26 I'd recommend purchasing the CD. It is great to invite friends over to share with friends on Veterans Day.
  13. Warning: Scam Against Older Men Women often receive warnings about protecting themselves at the mall and in dark parking lots, etc. This is the first warning I have seen for men. I wanted to pass it on in case you haven't heard about it. This is a 'heads up' for those men who may be regular customers at Lowe's, Home Depot, Costco, or even Wal-Mart. This one caught me totally by surprise. Over the last month I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping. Simply going out to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you or your older friends. Here's how the scam works: Two nice-looking, college-aged girls will come over to your car or truck as you are packing your purchases into your vehicle. They both start wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts. (It's impossible not to look). When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say 'No' but instead ask for a ride to McDonald's. You agree and they climb into the vehicle. On the way, one starts undressing and then starts crawling all over you, while the other one steals your wallet. I had my wallet stolen Sept. 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, 17th, 20th, 24th, & 29th. Also Oct. 1st & 4th, twice on the 8th, 16th, 23rd, 26th & 27th, and very likely again this upcoming weekend. So tell your friends to be careful. What a horrible way to take advantage of us older men. Warn your friends to be vigilant. Wal-Mart has wallets on sale for $2.99 each. I found even cheaper ones for $.99 at the dollar store and bought them out in three of their stores. Also, you never get to eat at McDonald's. I've already lost 11 pounds just running back and forth from Lowe's, to Home Depot, to Costco, Etc. So please, send this on to all the older men that you know and warn them to be on the lookout for this scam. (The best times are just before lunch and around 4:30 in the afternoon.)
  14. I'm on my second new style Venture and have over 185k combined miles on them. In October I went on a yearly ride to Winchester Speedway with my friends from Jackass Flats. We get to put all the bikes on the track,a high banked blacktop 1/2 mile, and have at it for 8-10 laps and get to repeat a few times too! What a blast to let the Venture blow past my Harley friends. Anyway after 3 outings on that day running in 3rd gear wide open and hitting the rev limits on the straights I thought my power was falling....or was the speed deceiving me? As we left the track in a group of 50 bikes I was sure my bike was noisey and power was down. At a traffic light I told my buddy what was going on and he said my bike was sounding noisey. I felt each pipe and all 4 were firing. When we reached the next stop I was concerned but with all the Harley guys talking about how good my bike sounded blowing past them and saying they had a new respect for my Venture. It felt and sounded better but still not right until we had rode about 50 miles at normal speeds. Then in a good place for it one of my friends with a 2010 Harley Ultra Classic Limited hit it hard and started around me and it was ON then! My bike ran great and while he was trying to shift gears on his Harley I was banging gears like a Yamaha dirt bike and it ran great! I don't know for sure but I'm thinking I bleed the lifters dry or something and I had problems until they pumped back up.....I have rode it over 1000 miles after that and it's not noisey and runs great as usual! Can anyone tell me what happened?

  20. As always, we had a wonderful time at Vogel! http://venturerider.org/forum/images/smilies/happy65.gif It was great seeing everyone, our old friends and meeting new friends! Even our daughter Jacque and her friend Jimmy were able to come and they really enjoyed hanging out with us! It inspired Jimmy to get his bike out when they got back to Huntsville and they went on a 100 mile trip into Tennessee! http://venturerider.org/forum/images/smilies/whistling.gif We might even see them on two wheels in the future at one of our meet and eats! Here are the pictures we took!! Once again, it was so good to see everyone! http://venturerider.org/forum/images/smilies/bighug.gif http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/Sleeperhawks%20Mechanic/2011/Sleeperhawks%20Mechanic%2020110820%20Vogel/

  22. It is amazing how you can leave home anticipating a great reunion with friends made, and the prospect of making new friends, have a fantastic time, ride till your seat is worn out, imbibe till the inhibitions drop away ( and then some), eat till your pant size needs to increase, win stuff to the point of embarrassment, appreciate the true quality of people we met and come home to find the world has not crashed, the garden grown, turkeys, goats and pets missed us. Thank you Venture riders for the fellowship and memories we have brought home with us and we certainly look forward to more opportunities. Teri n Erv
