  1. Hey Folks, Well here we are at another New Year, I know many have made resolutions ( I hate that word) and will try to change a negative in their life. Darren (93 Venture) came up with what I think is an awsome idea to raise some money for St. Judes. His idea is for a weight loss for money to donate to St. Judes. I have thought over the holidays what might be the best way and this is what I and some others have brainstormed. We will get some volunteers to be a group that will attempt to loose the weight. They will come up with a weight that they think they can loose before Freebirds Maintenance Day on June 6th. Folks would then pledge so much per pound on the combined total weight that the members want to loose. There is a twist to this also as we want folks to be realistic in their attempt on loosing weight. If someone says they want to loose 40 lbs and they only loose 30 they have to pay lets say $1 per pound that they didn't loose. Keeps people somewhat honest and motivate to lose the weight they said they would. As mentioned if your going to participate in this, BE REALISTIC! dont say that you want to loose 60 lbs in 6 months. This will be a total of all the goals set by the individuals. There will be a second thread started once we have the volunteers where members can donate however much per pound. So what do you folks think....are you up for the challenge??
  2. ...Folks around here are into are into side-arms and Gun Leather, but I ran into these folks at the gun show this weekend. Being somewhat of a afficiendo myself, I was very impressed with their products. I purchased one of their holsters and it is the highest riding, closest fitting holsters I have ever used. If you like Gun Leather, ya might want to give their sight a look http://www.mernickleholsters.com/ Kinda fun just to Browse DJ
  3. Here's my pics from the meet. Had a few surprises Ceecdo and his wife came down from PA & 86er came up from GA. A few folks didn't show, but we had some fun as usual. http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/NC%20Annual%20Meet%20Jan%202009/ Margaret
  4. and thought it might be interesting to a lot of the folks on VR.org. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=135&pID=15000
  5. I am going to need some work done on my 2007 RSTD - due to a lay-down this week. Should that be done at a dealership? Thanks folks, Shep
  6. Just got back from a 1 hour ride, 47 degrees, sunny and nobody out on the road except me...........only passed a couple of cars. Now its back to work tomorrow, we dont get the day after off like a lot of folks do, but at least I have a job..........hope everyone else had a great New Years day. I sure did....the ride was the icing on the cake......
  7. Folks, I'm in New Orleans downtown this evening. Looking for a family friendly local-flavor jazz restaurant that is reasonably priced. Any New Orleans folks on here who could guide us to a good local spot? We have a car so can drive somewhere here too. Thanks
  8. I'm posting this because maybe this way when the modern parable thread gets pulled, we can see who had the closest square. Redneck said 7pm sunday justjt said 9:35 sunday. I figure that a lot of folks aren't looking at the 'puter today because of the weekend, so I'll say 2pm monday.
  9. Ok Riderduke posted a M&E in VA on the 6th of Dec. We need someone to ride in a car from somewhere farther then SC. Gotta get someone from up North preferably. Since whoever comes the farthest gets to take dragonriders gift with them. So come on folks someone in PA maybe or Maryland would be good. Maybe even a WV person could make it. Well it's just a thought. Thank you for your time.:banana: Margaret
  10. As I was listening to the radio on the way to work this morning, the news was talking about the priorities of the incoming admimistration. One at the top of the list was climate change. That made me feel better as it is 18 degrees outside and it is still over a month until winter gets here. I have to say that I can not see how you folks from up north deal with winter, especially our friends north of the border. This would be even more difficult for me due to my love of motorcycles. But, I guess for many of you, it's snowmobile time. Try to stay warm. RandyA
  11. Hey All, I have been talking with Lewis and he has mentioned to me that the folks that donated for the St. Judes Tattoos are eligable for some gifts. Now the gifts vary upon how much was donated up to $34.99 is a St. Judes Lapel Pin, up to $74.99 is a T shirt, up to $149.99 is a Hat and $150.00 or more is a license holder for your car or bike. There is a problem here, this offer is only good for 1 week and we have to have an answer by Monday morning. This might be a nightmare, but we (Lewis and I) want you folks to have the choice to accept these. Now there is another option that Lewis came up with and I really like. His thoughts are that we break the donation amount down and get 165 pins or a combination of that and shirts and sell them on the site in the classifieds. We could either put them up for auction, or fix a price and sell them outright. The monies that we make off them could go right back into a St. Judes fund that we are working on. The choice is all of yours that donated, we will do what the masses want, although you could really make us work our butts off with a certain answer Let us know how you feel, I will put up a poll up top that we will use for the decision. I will make it so that those of you that donated anonymosly can also stay that way. Thank you all again for the donations that took us to almost $3300.00 for St. Judes
  12. OK folks, some of you are aware that with one the upgrades a while back, a new feature called "Social Groups" was added. These are like little mini-forums that are not publicly displayed on the main site. They were very poorly implemented in my opinion. The biggest problem is that there is no way to be notified of new posts to a social group that you are a member of. If you don't check them on a regular basis, it is easy to forget about them. The other problem is that the discussions are not "threaded" as they are in the forum and that makes it hard to have any continuity on a particular subject. There is a new software upgrade that will be ready soon. It is in "beta" right now which means that it is being tested and any major bugs are being worked out. Some sites are already using it and it seems to be stable now but I'll wait a while before installing it. Upgrading the software here is a major pain as I have a lot of customizations that have to be re-applied when I do an upgrade. The REAL question I have is do we even WANT to continue with the social groups. I've had mixed feelings about them from the beginning. On one hand, it is a good place for folks with a common interest that really doesn't warrant a specific topic area in the main forum to exchange ideas, discussion, etc. One example is the "Biker's/Musicians" social forum. This site is not about musicians but we have a number of folks here who play guitar, banjo, drums...even tuba that enjoy talking about their music, gigs, etc. The social group is a great place for them to do that. On the other hand, I think that too many social groups can distract from the family atmosphere that we have here. If enough folks take their discussions to the social groups then the forum could become pretty slow. I prefer that most discussion take place here in the open so that we can all participate. So, those are my thoughts. What are yours?
  13. Happy Halloween folks.... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=176Zp3SsoqQ]YouTube - 07 Halloween House Light Show[/ame]
  14. Greetings to all- The 1st Annual Texas Venture Stampede is over and all that is left are the memories and the photos. Thanks to all who came and enjoyed the weekend. We had beautiful weather and a great place to ride. The Texas Railroad was interesting. I think it would be better suited as a children's activity. The meal Saturday night and the door prizes were great. The local Yamaha dealer ponied up a great stack of goodies. Grand prize was won by Lil'bit. She has a $100.00 gift certificate to River Road for clothing and accessories. The folks from Canada received the longest distance travelled award. The City of Athens provided them 2 keys to the city in honor of their attendance. Our final total was 26 people attending on 21 bikes. I travelled about 1800 miles from Thursday until Sunday night. We occupied 22 rooms at the Quality Inn. Along with our group, there was a Lincoln Continental Collectors Club holding a meet. What a great display of cars. Unfortunately I did not get pictures. I think some of our other members may have. My thanks to Mavrick for his help in putting the Stampede together. I had a blast working with him. And thanks to the sneaky folks who paid my tab at supper Saturday night! I am putting together a CD of all the pictures that I got from folks. Crimson Knight grabbed some short video clips to add to the collection. I will be sending these out in about a week as momentos of the weekend. I need anyone who did not get pictures to me on Saturday night to shoot me a PM. Mavrick and I will be sending certificates of appreciation to all of the places who helped out. Now, the final order of business for the 1st Annual Texas Venture Stampede- All who attended have asked 2 questions- When and where will the 2nd Annual Texas Venture Stampede be held? Give me your input now folks. I am thinking maybe Hill Country and we run the Three Sisters for fall of 2009. http://s258.photobucket.com/albums/hh269/lonestarmedic/Stampede08/ Thanks for the memories JB

  17. Holy Cow! I swear that we are a bunch of Masochists, I dont have the exact miles, but it is over 1700 for us in 58 hours. What a weekend, I can say it enough to all Thank you for all your support in this effort. I wont go long winded as I am pretty much dead right now, but you all know the folks that put this together. Please give them a big thanks as this wouldn't have happened with out several key players, and I'm not talking about me. I'm going to bed and will bore your ears off tomorrow...Good Night!
  18. Gas prices up locally $0.45 already this morning to $4. Heard in city near by up to $5.05 for reg. Ike is going to cost everybody big time, no matter where you live. I wish the folks of Texas well, but it looks like you are going to get it! RandyA
  19. I've read the many threads here about direct wiring, and have decided that I would "prefer" to install a fuse panel somewhere under the seat (??). I'm not too keen on connecting accessories directly to the battery. A couple of questions: 1) What types (manufacturer) are you folks installing and are you happy? 2) Where have you installed the fuse panel? 3) Are there panels made specifically for the RSV? Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated!
  20. Thanks DonC, ( GunBoat ) for pulling this off, and Thanks DonN. (Freebird) for sending the emails to the Texas members. Don H was pretty surprised, when we came wheelin up to his house.. The neighberhood will never be the same..but we did leave the Red Lobster in one peice, so we should be allowed to come back. We had a Total of 8 folks and had a Great Time and an Awsome visit. I have posted the pics, forgive me if I mispelled any names or have the wrong names with the pics..I am gettin Old..
  21. I was once told that there is freeware that works with Microsoft Office? I understand that it will work with all the same applications that Office has ...if someone knows could you tell me where to download it from? Thanks in advance for all the help ...we'll see you folks in a few days !!
  22. I was wonder which model of Harbor Freight trailers most people are using. I found this model on their web site. I was wonder if anyone had experience with this particular model or what thoughts folks might like to share. Thanks in advance. 23. Hey Folks: Need some help: I wear a half helmet and wife and I really do not need to have IC/CB for traveling…BUT I have a need this weekend (and past times) to have IC/CB for a group ride….I read posts and just got the IMC HS G45U for half helmets. I know Gary N. has them and gives them two thumbs up…Just using for occasional group riding. Anyway…I read everything in the owners manual and have one question…. When I hook them up…Radio_Aux-CB comes in OK...I can talk into the microphone without pushing the talk button and hear myself in the earphones….Is there something up or this normal.....I can not read anything about this anywhere….This happens when I have the radio on/off…CB on/off….both on/off…makes no difference…Could you experienced IC/CB folks help me out and let me know if this is normal…Again..just talk into the microphone and hear myself in the earphones...Thanks for any help provided.... George In Virginia….
  24. I know Texas is a big state. Are any of you folks in the path of the Hurricane?
  25. Folks I just want to take this time to praise those who deserve it. I recently (read last Monday) decided to buy a backrest for my '08. I looked at both the Utopia and the Diamond R, I went with the Diamond R and I am so happy that I did. I know you folks hear of us praising certain vendors that offer us great products or service. Let me tell you that Diamond R does both. I ordered online and then later that morning talked with Patty on the phone. She was very pleasant to chat with and had told me that she had already packaged up my backrest and was going to ship it the same day I ordered it! I recieved it from Texas to Michigan by Thursday 3 days...it don't get much better than that folks. Lonna and I went to Bummers M&E south of Indy this weekend and I can tell you that my back was a much happier part of me. If you are looking for a backrest, please check out what Allan & Patty have to offer. Their products are top quality and the customer service is stellar....I highly recommend them to all of our members
