    My better half wants to see Gulf Shores, AL and New Orleans the 3rd week of January. I see their average high is 62 that time of year which is fine compared to what we'll have here in Wisconsin! What suggestions does anybody have for scenic rides, good eats etc in these two regions?

    The wife and I are planning a 10 or 11 day ride from the Washington DC area to New Orleans and back the end of May and could use some advice\suggestions on routes and things to do while there. We've never been down that way before. All we have decided so far is to head from home to the north end of the Blue Ridge Pkwy, taking approximately 2 days to ride to the southern end. We will then either take a quick lap on the Dragon (been there done that, as a passenger the wife finds it boring) or the Cherohala. From here we haven't decided anything. Suggestions on an interesting route from the Dragon\Cherohala area on down to New Orleans would be most appreciated. Also, suggestions on things to see and do while there along with best places to stay would be great. Thanks very much in advance for your thoughts. Cheers, Dan

    We took Bradt, NaughT and their daughter Brooke on a Louisiana swamp tour at Honey Island Swamp while they were here and to New Orleans the next day.     The Corps of Eng is going to open the Morganza spillway to divert floodwaters from the Mississippi west of Baton Rouge and New Orleans starting this afternoon. A quick check of LA DOT conditions shows many roads closed already due to flooding. Travelling on I10 may become iffy as the waters rise west of New Orleans towards Lafayette.

    The time is almost here. I have the whole month of July off and taking my new tent trailer and off I go to Las Vegas. My route down is planned but of course open to different sights as the days progress. My route home I will be winging it thru Texas to the ocean then to New Orleans. From there I have no idea yet. Stay safe everyone and I hope to keep checking in.

    Folks, I'm in New Orleans downtown this evening. Looking for a family friendly local-flavor jazz restaurant that is reasonably priced. Any New Orleans folks on here who could guide us to a good local spot? We have a car so can drive somewhere here too. Thanks
