  1. Looking for the headsets and lower cables for 92 venture trying to keep all the original equipment on the bike that i can,
  2. I have an 89 Venture. I replaced the battery about 1 1/2 years ago. I have a Decka. Bike has been sitting in storage for about 1 1/2 months. Went to start it today battery was dead. Jumped it with car and it would run but when I took off the cables it died. restarted and let it run till it warmed up. removed cables and it would idle. When try to get the rpms up it started to sputter and tack would go all over the place and gauge would go towars the bottom. When let it idle every thing was fine. Is it because the battery is drained so much or is there other problems. This has never happened before. Bike has 100,000 miles on it. I plan on putting battery on charger in the morning and leaving it there till the afternoon. Thanks in advance
  3. Hey, I got a question I'm hoping someone knows the answer to. My 1998 Gold Wing 1500 has an annoying electrical tendency. The last two time I went for a ride it all was right with the world then suddenly it acted like the battery was dead. The motor lost all power and I coasted to the shoulder and stopped. There wasn't enough juice in the battery to crank the engine. Karl, ic23b, came by with his van and jumper cables. We had to jump it 3 times to make it 6 miles home. All my gauges were wacko, with either no readouts or ridiculous readouts. I cleaned the battery terminals and cables and put the battery on the charger BUT the charger said it was ALREADY fully charged !!?? A couple days later it happened again and I ended up walking home to get the car and trailer. When I got back to the bike it cranked over just like 'downtown' and fired right up. Is there a relay or solenoid in the main circuit that could fail and interrupt the current flow? Any ideas?? Quirk
  4. Can you jump a venture with jumper cables hooked to an automobile battery?
  5. I changing the brake cables and clutch cables and need to bleed the clutch but cant find the bleeder to bleed it with. Need help urgently. Thanks
  6. I bought a FireStik antenna for my bike because I read a few posts that said it was an easy swap. Apparently, I'm not that bright when it comes to CB's. The antenna has a male end on it and so does the cable on the bike mount, so it won't just screw on. I've found replacement cables, but they all have the wrong connector at the radio end (and they're all 18'). So how do I get a cable on this thing??? I'm completely lost. Thanks guys.
  7. I just installed a zumo 660 on my 04 Venture. I up graded from a 450. I still have the fairing split but should have it back on tomorrow night. I drilled a 1" hole to the left of the left hand speaker "right hand as you are looking from the front towards the back of the bike" with a wood drill bit to run the cables through. Simple and up high and there is plenty of room. I will send a picture of the hole in a little bit. What I wanted to share was that I took Squidley's advice from his "Installing an Aux line splitter" and went to Radio Shack and bought the cables he mentions in his article. I can now hear the Garmin through the head sets. The install was cheap and easy. Thanks again Squid for a job well done. P.S. The picture did not turn out. Sorry.
  8. A Friend of mine told me that someone here makes up a cable to use with the headset for blue tooth. I have a Nuvi 760 and would like to use the blue tooth without having two separate cables and mikes to deal with. Can someone help with this? Thanks Chuck
  9. I'm not familiar with 1st gens at all. Was cruise control standard on the bikes or was it optional? How does the cruise servo connect to the throttle cables? Does it connect to the junction box right in front of the carbs?
  10. Has anyone replaced the throttle cables on a 1988 Venture? Need to know if I have to take the Fairing off... Thanks, J.D.
  11. I have an 87 and the machanic took the bike apart to do some work and the cables are shot. He tried getting new ones but said they were no longer in existence. These are special cables because they go through the cruise control. My question is: Is there somewhere where I can get new cables? Does anyone have decent cables from a parts bike? Where do I get a parts/maintenence/ diagraphm book to trouble shoot the cruise control if not working correctly? Does anyone have a working cruise control from a parts bike? Thanks Woody Email to byekryam@aol.com
  12. I received my New Set of Throttle cables for my 89 the other day, and they are Installed, Working Great. ---- Of Note: At the Carb, end, the New ones Have Vinal Inserts, I guess Yamaha took note of the Fraying at the #1 Carb hook up point. ---- Wether this will stop the Fraying problem, I don't know, but its worth takeing note of if you need to replace your throttle cables.
  13. I just thought I'd pass this along for any of you VR riders who just love to enjoy your cruise control. Over a month ago I replaced my throttle cables; still a little stiff. Wrench and I decided to replace the cruise control cables as well. POINT: it too him over 3.5 weeks to find them, so they are getting scarce. Mine cost me a little less than $63. At 71 years and on an 86 not sure I'll now buy a spare set. HOWEVER: the cruise just climbs up hills without any of those familiar 'drops.' I have no idea how long that will last, but for now I'll enjoy it! Meanwhile, off Tuesday with dogman (Dave) who is driving to Ft Collins, CO, from Toronto, Canada. We will be taking 14 W off I-25 past FC, to Cameron Pass (10,276 Ft), to Steamboat Springs, to Glennwood Springs; There will be an overnighter there, with Dave in his trailer camper and me in a motel. Then we split as he heads to Los Vegas where his wife is flying in for their vacation, and I head back home. That is, IF I last that long! LOL JackZ aka DePreach
  14. I have a 2007 RSV and have been thinking about changing my handlebars out with either the Tour Deluxe bars or the Flanders G2 bars.I have the GenMar risers now, but do not like how they hit the tank cowl and would like them to come back a little more.If any one has done this I would appreciate some input.I e-mailed Buckeye Performance and was sent a price list, but the total for every thing is close to $600.Does any one know if the Tour Deluxe cables and brake lines are 2 " longer than the Venture stock ones and will fit. I can buy stock cables and lines much cheaper than aftermarket.I would like to have the stainless braided ones, but out of my price range right now. Also, do we get a membership discount from Buckeye Performance ?
  15. Hi guys, I have removed my carbs off my -'87 VR a few times. Every time I remove the upper left fairing to get to the cables at the Venture Cruise "junction box" and disconnect the "shorties" going to the carbs per the manual. This is a long process. Have I been doing it the hard way? Can the carbs be removed and safely disconnect the cables right at the carbs then yank them up and out the top without swearing? Bottom line , have I been disassmbling the fairing for nothing?
  16. Is there somewhere online I can purchase intercom adaptor cables that hook into the connectors on the bike? What is manufacturer and part number? Also, what then do I need to adapt those to earbuds? I've read that the Sony EX71SLB work nice and are comfy. I'm thinking of doing this more for my wife so she can hear the radio while riding on back. Am I on the right track here....if she's plugged into rear connector will speakers still have sound?
  17. I have a 08 venture. the cruise workes but when going down hill then an the way up it will lose about 5 mph then pick it back up to set speed. Would the cables be out of adj? I did adj the carb floats so it is possable I didn't get the cables just right! Thanks for input! Ps. the floats were way off from the book. Milage went fron 34 to 42. Don't put that in stone. I need to do some more checking on that part.
  18. Still working on this thing, yes thing. I have lost that lovin' feeling for the time being. I cannot get the idle screw to touch the linkage even with it screwed all the way in. Does the "A" sync screw have anything to do with this? Is there an adjustment on the top cable that controls this. I can get it to touch the idle screw if I push down on the linkage. I have the cables disconnected at the round thing where all 5 cables meet. I have also sprayed deep creep in there but that does nothing.
  19. After installing risers, I've now rerouted the throttle cables 3 times, and they're still sticking when turned to the right. I also lubed them and it didn't seem to make any difference. For those of you who have been successful in getting the throttle not to stick at all via rerouting, exactly what route do your cables take? They originally went (starting from the left) around the steering neck, inside the front brake line, outside the right vertical bar of the inner fairing frame, and around the outside of the right side of the fork. That's the route shown in the service manual. I tried bringing them inside the inner fairing frame, no luck. I then tried outside the front brake line, still inside the inner fairing frame, and up, coming out by the top right of the triple tree, by the pinch bolts, no luck. So what route works? And for those of you who have purchased longer cables, where did you get them and how much did they cost?
  20. was going to run my son up to St Louis we stoped for gas before we left he went in to pay we get on the bike and all it will do is click never would turn over just click so i call my wife and tell her bring jumper cables we try to jump it but notheing so i got a bigger pair of cables it clicked then turn over one time then i put it on the soleniod and it fired right up drove it back to the house. so is it my battery or the is it something else?
  21. I am just trying to get a handle on how many users have had problems with their throttle cables either being too short or too tight after installing risers (Baron's or other). Yes, I know that Baron's says longer cables are not needed, but I have read through enough posts to see that there is some sort of problem. I plan on getting these risers from this eBay seller: Polished Risers I think I prefer these because they are polished, where the Baron's looked brushed. Anyway, I am trying to figure out if I should just go ahead and order a longer throttle cable... Thanks.
  22. I've ordered a set of valve cover gaskets. The PO gave me a set of the heavy duty battery & starter cables but they were never installed. Should I put these on while I have things apart for the valve covers, and what problems can I expect to look for? I also have a new fuse block in the box.
  23. I need a few parts for my cruise addition project. I am adding a 1988 cruise control to my 1983 plain jane I need the bracket that mounts to the triple tree that the cruise light pod screws to. Also the rubber grommet that goes around the ignition switch. They are items #13 & 14 on attached PDF of parts listing. Anything from 1986 thru 1993 should work. Also I need a set of throttle cables from a bike that had cruise (83-93). I have the pulley box that connects the upper and lower cables. I didn't realize cables were different until I got the bike stripped down yesterday. Will the cables from a second gen work for what I need? I see several sets of these on Ebay for very little. They look very similar in pictures. Also could use a 1983 TCI unit. A clutch side foam grip would also be nice. I got the throttle side one with the right hand electrical control. Also, I bought a rear shock with a spring. The one I bought is from a 1987. I did not get the air line that goes into the right top of the shock. The one on my 83 that only has the air bag goes into the left side of the shock and is too short. Or, if anyone can tell me what the threads are going into the shock, maybe I can get an adapter. I have an extra fork tube air set with shrader valve. I might be able to couple to existing line with one of the air lines from this if I knew thread size. If you have any of these PM or email me price with shipping. Thanks Gary
  24. Ok, I'll admit I'm not the brightest bulb on the Christmas Tree at times, but I've searched and I'm coming up with nothing. Can someone please post a link to the thread that explains how to run the extra ground from the starter to the frame on a 1st generation. I've got an 86 VR and I'm trying to take care of some issues. Also if there are any pics on running new battery cables, I need some help with that too. Thanks, I appreciate any help I can get. Mick
