    RSTD ?

I am putting pillow top seats on my RSTD and would like to know for the passanger seat,I put the front bracket on and mounted the seat. Now what type of bracket holds the back part of the seat to secure it to the fender? star4772 :confused24:
  2. Well with a little help from Carbon one making the adapter plate we were able to get the trunk at least mounted to see what it looks like. I think it will look pretty good after trunk is painted to match. and the backrest and armrest are redone in black also a good cleanup of the chrome and mounting bracket. What do you all think?? The detachable backrest is straped to the back. Joe star4772 If anyone needs anything done I highly recommand Larry Carbon one He is just amazing. Attached Thumbnails

  4. I a missing the Stock Rear Seat BRACKET that holds the rear seat to the rear fender. Does anybody know where I can find this bracket?? I have a 1997 Royal Star Deluxe Thanks Pete ptynning@msn.com
  5. I was browsing through the Custom Dynamics web site a few days ago and found these little LED license plate bolts. http://www.customdynamics.com/illuminatorz_licence_plates.htm#LED_Tag_Bolts I thought they were kind of clever so I ordered a set and just installed them tonight. I decided to mount them to either side of the plate on their own bracket. Otherwise they would have to be disconnected in order to remove the plate. I wired them as brake lights and they add a little twinkle to the lower corners of the plate. Here's a photo. Dennis
  6. After some prodding by fellow members I'm offering my Stebel air horn bracket for those who wish to have one. It's made from 1/8" stainless steel and nicely polished. Pics below of it on the air horn and in the mounted position. It replaces the stock horn on the right side of the bike, and tucks in very good as well. The horn doesn't stick out beyond the exhaust pipes because of that. Price of the bracket is $15 which will include shipping priority mail. Payments can be made by PayPal at lskeels@wowway or use the same address to get my home address if sending a money order. Larry
  7. We would like to find a larger trunk for our '84 Venture. Our weekend away showed us we need more room. I know I saw the answer here but I can not find it. Does a trunk fom a 1985 fit onto the bracket on a 1984? The '85 is larger isn't it? If I go with an '86 and newer, I know I would need the mounting bracket, does the newer one bolt right up or are there mods needed? Thanks, Dave
  8. Goes anyone have a stock right side deflector and bracket assembly they would sell? Maybe someone who has upgraded to aftermarket deflectors? oops. could a mod edit the subject to -right-
  9. Coming home from Savannah today I almost lost my running light. the frame mounted bracket to which squidly's light bracket, the horn and a fog light are mounted broke clean off. The metal is clean all through the break, so this was not a developing crack with ultimate break. Don't know if something hit the light to have caused this, but at least she landed on my boot and hung on by the wiring. Question one would be if any one knows of the top if this is a bolt on tab or welded on. And second, if it is bolted on does anyone have a spare (left side) so I can fix this easy like. Thanks!!
  10. I ordered the Light Bar Bracket from Tony on here and today when I thought I would at least loosen the bolts that holds the light bar on...I barely could get the right one out...but it finally broke loose and I was able to unscrew it. But the left one was already slighly worn out...and it is so tight I can't get it. Now the 5mm hex key can't get a good hold in the bolt. Why would they tighten those THAT tight...especially when they are so hard to get to. I even bought a set of ball end hex wrenches. So, short of taking the thing back to the dealer to put the bracket on...anyone got any ideas as to a way to remove this wollared out bolt. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Wally
  11. What is proper assembly of rear wheel on 83 xvz12? From right 1. axle bolt 2. washer 3. brake caliper bracket 4. ??missing spacer?? 5. RH oilseal and bearing 6. etc... I seem to have too much gap on right side, and brake caliper bracket is clear to move too far?? toward wheel, bumping brake rotor bolt heads
  12. I am need of some help. I have finally got my parts but I am having problems putting my windshield back on. The book don't show how to put it back on. I don't even know if I have all the parts. I have two brackets with rubber on one end and then 2 bolt holes on the other that has what I would call guide pins that the bolts go through. It looks to me like they go down at the bottom in front but I don't know if the rubber goes up or down. Then I cant figure out how to bolt the rest of it up. I can see 2 bolt holes up at the top by the mirrors but I don't know if there is supposed to be a bracket that goes between the windshield and the frame. Next I have a bracket left over that I don't know where goes. Mine is green and looks kind of like a butterfly. There is four bolt holes one on each corner and then 2 bolts that look to be pressed in coming up through the middle. The old one has plastic broken off still attached like it would go to a fender or something like that.
  13. I was buttoning up the fairing after several weekends of maintenance and mods and noticed something on the bottom of my passing lamp bracket. There are 2 little squares welded onto the bar that appear to have tapped holes in the bottom of them. This might be a nice place to add an aux light mounting bracket. If no one knows what I am talking about, I will post a picture. Thoughts? RR
  14. I was able to install the arm rests I got from Snaggletooth (Thanks Mike, I'll buy ya a cup of coffee sometime). I used a U-Bolt around the passenger grab bars through the upper portion of the bracket. I needed to cut down the length of the U-bolts. After I installed them, I covered the nylon locking nut with an acorn nut to avoid potential damage to the seat. The lower part of the bracket needed to be attached to an "extender". I used a piece of plumber's tape (left over from garage door opener install) and bolted it to the arm rest bracket. I them exchanged the seat mounting bolt with a longer one. The saddle bags are very tight to put on. I will try the ideas from my earlier post today when I get home from work on Wednesday. Doreen and I took a short ride around town and does she love them!!! We can not wait to get on the highway. As per Rule #1, here are some photos. Dave
  15. I just bought my uncle's 96 red/wht Royal Star (with only 4500 miles!), and have been reading about the Road King exhaust fitting onto the RS, with a modified bracket. Is there a particular year range RK exhaust? Where can I find a bracket? Thank you! Jon Jax, FL.
  16. I need some help on the MKI to MKII brake upgrade. My rear swingarm is different on my 83 compared to my 88 donor bike The pin that the caliper bracket slides onto is a different dia. between the two models. The 83 has a smaller dia. pin on swing arm that matches the original caliper bracket. The 88 has a larger pin that is welded to the swing arm, and it matches the 88 caliper bracket. The 88 bracket, when put on the 83 swing arm flops around. What am I missing here. Bracket at top of picture is 88, bottom is 83. Hole is also slightly elongated in 88 bracket, by about .080". But there is no obvious signs of wear or fatigue. Hole is longer front to back than top to bottom. The holes are the same center line distance, picture is distorting this . Gary
  17. So I get the new bike home Tuesday night. The wife and I take about a 5 mile ride to check it out. Pull up in the driveway, and notice one of the rear speakers aren't working.. BRAND NEW.. come on now... SO, I call the dealer the next morning, and of course, depends on how busy we are if we can get to it right away or not... UM... I just spent how much for what?!?!?! Got home last night and decided I'll look at it myself.. Pull the seats, and yep, sure enough, plain as day is a a connector with nothing plugged into it... I start looking around for the other end. It's up under the trunk, with the wire running between the trunk and the trunk bracket. You could tell exactly what happened... They put it together, couldn't get the connector pushed back through from between the bracket and the trunk, so said WTF.. it's only one speaker.. I ended up pulling the speaker pod loose, and it gave enough clearance to force the connector through... I also noticed that one of the connectors for one of the antennas wasn't routed correctly and placed in the holder for it.. and another wire laying loose that should have been run through a wire keeper.. SO.. I sorted it all out, put it all back together, and now I got sound all the way around, and no worries of wires rubbing from being in wrong places.. It sure makes me wonder what other problems I'm going to find from the dealer assembly though... If they do something like this with a brand new bike, I'll be damned if I'm going to trust my life to others when you have no ideas if they take shortcuts or not.. At least when I work on it, I know what was done.
  18. Just put an e3 tire on the 86 and have been having fits getting the wheel back on. I get it back in the splines on the pumkin but do not have enough room after putting the caliper bracket or push rod back on to place the washer between it and the swingarm. Can't figure out what I am doing wrong. HELP PLEAE. AND THANKS.
  19. Hello everyone. I have noticed while browsing this wonderful forum, that many have installed RK mufflers. I was wondering if any one had the template for the bracket on hand. The links from some time ago have expired. I just scored a new set at the local HD dealer for $75. I am very excited to get moving. I did already order the clamps on ebay thanks to you guys. any assistance would be greatly appreciated. thank you. I have a new to me 2005 rstd and love it.
  20. I've started the mod to my 06 RSTD, in about 1 week it should be completed.. I have all the parts needed to install the Venture tour pak and seats to transform it into a Tour DeVenture..... If anyone is looking for the following please email me 3 piece Mustang seat w/ driver’s backrest (offset bracket to sit back further) Luggage rack for passenger backrest Removable Tour Pac bracket with tour pak and LED light
  21. Hey all, I purchased a new 6 disk cd changer on ebay for my 06 venture but the thing doesn't have instructions on how to install it on my bike. It looks to have the rubber mounting bracket to go in the side compartment. anyone know where to find some detailed instructions on how this mounts? Thanks!
  22. Hey yall, I'm looking for a left side passenger foot rest bracket. Don't need the peg or floorboard, just the bracket that mounts to the frame. Thanks.
  23. OK, so like many others, I bought one of them Bad boy air horns at Harbor Freight. The stock horns I had were just about as useful as a tender whisper in an offender's ear, so I had to do something. I bought the horn, happened on to some scrap 3/8" aluminum to cut a bar from, and went to work. The original horn bracket was way too short to mount the air horn, so I cut a new bracket from the aluminum scrap I had. I cut the bracket, drilled the holes and mounted the horn. http://i38.tinypic.com/2pt544i.jpg http://i38.tinypic.com/2885uzo.jpg I ran it like this for a couple of weeks and everything worked fine, but I really didn't like where I had it mounted. It just stuck out there like a sore thumb. So I set to looking for an alternate location, preferably down lower at the front of the front engine guard. We just happened to have a couple of small 90 degree brackets laying around at work, so I spirited them home and got to work once again. Here's what I came up with. http://i33.tinypic.com/2cyo844.jpg http://i38.tinypic.com/16gjtyd.jpg http://i35.tinypic.com/2edyyhg.jpg I like this set-up a lot better. And since I have an extra bracket, I can now mount a second horn on the other side! The overall appearance is a lot cleaner and there is less exposed wiring and I now have two spots where the original horns were that I can use for mounting passing lights. my only concern at this point is concerning heat from the exhaust pipe possibly melting the plastic. I've only had the horn in this location one day so far and I check it every time I stop to see if it's getting hot. So far it's staying quite cool.
  24. Hi, I am short one bodywork bracket for my red '84. I wondered if anyone here might have an extra they'd part with? The bracket I need is the one that holds the bodywork piece just near where the front left lower faring turns to join the picece that goes under the radiator. It anchors the plastic to one of the mounting bolts for the LHS engine case guard. Its a small right angle piece that has a threaded hole on the bodywork end and an open hole at the case guard end. I hope I am being clear. Anyone got one that for a few bucks they'd put it in the mail to me? Thanks, Brian H.
  25. I know a lot has been posted about the Stebel Nautilus Air Horn. I took a few pictures of my installation on my RSTD and wanted to share them. Stebelhorn1.jpg shows how I mounted the relay under the right side cover next to the coolant overflow tank. Stebelhorn2.jpg shows the wiring according to the wiring diagram included with the horn package. Stebelhorn3.jpg shows the brackets I made from aluminum bar stock. Aluminum is easy to drill and bend. Not shown in the picture is the slight bend I made in each bracket to get the horn to sit back closer to the frame. I used a large adjustable wrench to hold the brackets while I hand-bent them. Bend away from you on the end that bolts to the original horn bracket, bend towards you on the other end. The brackets are hidden behind the horn so they don't have to look pretty. Stebelhorn4.jpg shows the finished project.
