  1. I have a 2005 RSTD and I bought an intercom for it last November. I bought it so Karen & I could talk on longer trips. So far We've only taken 2 long trips. Once to Daytona in November, and we just got back from Ohio. So far we've had to send the intercom unit in for replacement, and on this week's trip we were close enough to just stop at Sierra Electronics where we bought the intercom, and had both headsets replaced because the speakers went out. The people at Sierra are nice enough, but it's a real inconvenience to have it not work when you need it. Did I just get a lemon, or is this brand just junk?
  2. After 2.5 years of procrastination I bought the GXM30 Antenna to complete my Zumo 550...I installed it and to my surprise XM has a Lifetime subscription like my Sirius does so I bought the Lifetime subscription so I could finish out my Zumo Mods! Now even though I like Sirius better,I just had to get my Zumo completed, glad I did. I thought many times about just getting a cradle for my Sirius receiver but I have too much stuff on the handlebars already. Let the riding begin!
  3. I hated to do it because a lot of this work I could have done myself but, I dropped my bike off at the dealer to have a new rear tire installed, new air filters, gas filter, stearing head checked, new battery , stripped bolt removed etc, etc, etc......I am just so behind in things that need to be done around the house that I just decieded our safety is to important to let these things go rather than to rush around and do a half a$$ed job on the scoot myself....changed my rear brakes and the fluids last week and will check the front brakes when I get her back....bought a new shorty winshield and winshield pouches for my baby and Taters bought a new level 3 jacket for herself....I ordered a ram mount and aqua box for my mp3 player and will re-route some wireing when I get her back.....Just came back from bongobobbys to check out his trike and yes, he was installing some new toys himself....Dang, now he gave me some new ideas for my scoot..... *$#*^! YOU BOBBY..lol...now I have more work I want to do on my bike.... p.s. ..... this is cutting into my ice cream time:bawling:p.s.s. yamaha is going to replace my faring due to cracking of the plastic at the winshield..
  4. I bought a quick release for my helmet. This is the one I bought: http://www.ironhorsehelmets.com/quickrelease.htm Okay, so how the %^#* does the black end attach to the loop with the two D hooks?
  5. ok so i barely bought my 98 royal star from a guy who's the first owner, he said he bought it from the dealer with aftermarket pipes on it.... the problem is that the bike doesnt seem to have been re-jetted since it seems to be running a little lean.. it takes a while to warm up and if i try riding it when it barely starts, it kinda hesitates to run....how do I know what kind of exhaust it is?? what could be the problem??
  6. Howdy to all and thanks in advance for your help. I have a 90 vr with 13k on it that pulls the front wheel off the ground on a smooth shift into 2nd gear. That isn't normal is it? When you look at the weight to HP ratio and then factor my big ass on it, this doesn't seem likely to me. All my other bikes have been lighter with shorter gears & about the same HP and this one is definitely quicker. I've talked to people at 2 local Yamaha dealers and they seem at least as puzzled as I am. I need to get the valves etc. done in a couple thousand miles and wondering if there's anything they need to know about and how I can find out more about it. Can anyone recommend a shop anywhere in my area? I live near Duluth MN. The guy I bought it from had it about 5 years and put 3k on it, bought it in Colorado & says he doesn't know anything about the history. Thanks again.
  7. I am just now reassembling my 86 VR after much TLC over the winter. Question: has anyone left the black air dampers off the engine? {just on top of the valve covers}. Any reason to use them? I want to thank all the technical contributers here for their work, it has helped alot on my project! The list.... removed fairings and fixed all the plastic cracks with epoxy and "glass, and repainted fixed class computer rebuilt the suspension/bushings with the zerks, lubed shaft etc removed the stereo/cb and all related components and replaced the plastic covers with stock non-VR parts [about 30 lbs of stuff} replaced the seat with aftermarket {bought used from here} replaced fork seals and front brakes replaced the pipes with new Macs {bought here} adjusted valves, tuned, carbsync etc I only rode the bike once after buying it last fall... so I am itching to get going! Thanks, Gary
  8. In Oct 2008my wife and I bought a 86' Venture and a small, color matched trailer to tow behind the bike. It was a package deal. We bought it from a guy in Long Island and at the time we lived in SC. The trailer has no title. This wasn't an issue in SC because there's no registering/titling trailers there. However, we've since moved to NV and here it needs to be registered. I've looked all over the thing and the only thing I could find is a Coleman stamp on the bottom of the fiberglass shell. I took it to the NV inspection and they looked and looked for a vin to no avail. They basically said there was nothing I could do without a vin or title. I've tried to contact the guy I bought it from but he is long gone and I'm certain that even if I could get a hold of him he wouldn't have anything. I got a form from the DMV about applying for a title if it's homemade but this thing totally does not look homemade. I've thought about dismantling it and building a wood frame to make it look homemade and then put it back together later but that seems ridiculous. I don't know what to do? Please help!
  9. After reading the recommendations for using the 44K over Seafoam, I bought some off eBay. I bought 10 cans and now I'm awaiting delivery, so if anyone near Amarillo would like to try it, I may have a little left over. $12/can is what I paid for it shipped. Thanks, Forrest.
  10. I need to put my mind as ease a little. Without getting into much detail and risk maligning the RSV folks, I want to compare bikes for sound and feel. I'm wondering how much engine vibration I should be feeling and how much noise I should be hearing. Being this bike was bought "untested" I'm a tad paranoid! So if anyone is in the Calgary area and could help a guy out I be obliged!
  11. Hello Everyone! New Gnu @ the Watering Hole......first order of business......where are the lions?? Gotta keep an eye out for them!! Seriously tho'. I had my trial subscription for abt a week and found so much to offer I felt guilty taking it for free, so dropped my $12 and became a member. Last Oct. I bought a 98 Royal Star Standard from a friend of a friend. I'd ridden before but this is my 1st big cruiser. AND I'M LOVIN IT!! She was well taken care of but ridden seldom (only 6k miles)and the owner bought another bike so this one had to go. $3K later and I was riding her home. Looking forward to getting to know and hopefully meeting/riding with some of you. Hoping for a get-to-gether in FL so I can see some of the other great rides on here in person (and steal ideas!!). Once again, Nicetameecha. AwesomePossum (a.k.a. Keith) p.s. The chatroom is verrry cool!
  12. Never mind. I just bought some from eBay.
  13. I picked up a Schumacher Battery minder (up to 2amp cycler/ desulfater) today at Princess Auto as it seems to have all the features of the Batter tender plus. It was less cheaper than the Battery tender so I bought it. Does anyone have one of these and if so, what are your thoughts on it. Thanks Brian
  14. Just purchased an 05 Venture, this bike has been sitting for about a year. The previous owner bought it as a rebuilder, it has some damage on right side, all cosmetic no structural or mechanical. Anyway he said when he bought it he charged the battery and it started right up and ran good. Now it acts as if its not getting gas to the carbs,(fires and chugs some with choke out but wont take off and run) I have no juice to the fuel pump, is there a relay? all the fuses that I can find are ok. I unplugged the pump and hot wired it and it seems to be locked up, wont run acts like a dead short. Any suggestions??

    1991

March of 1991 we bought a new Yamaha Venture. We put over 26,000 miles on it the first year. Here is some of the photos http://www.photoshow.com/watch/iy6Ea5JH
  16. Bought this as part of Black Friday from Walmart.com for the wife's car. Consumer reports gave good remarks for the 330S. User reviews were just the opposite and the tomtom forum there are some folks that bought the same model from walmart. Seems as long as you don't update it, you are fine but as soon as you update the maps or add anything like voices the unit goes south. Freezes on the splash screen and what not. Also rechecked the walmart.com return policy. Returnable in 15 days, but they will not refund the taxes I paid. Grrrrrr. Gees I haven't gotten this in my hands yet and I am already having buyers remorse.
  17. Okay, so I am new to this site. I am 16 and ride a 1985 Yamaha Venture Royale. I was just thinking that I am probably one of the youngest kids out there who actually have bought one of these themselves. If your son or daughter has purchased a Venture, and they're 16 or younger, let me know:080402gudl_prv:
  18. As if I did not have enough of other things to do ......like work , I went out and bought myself another Black Cherry . Not 2 wheels , but a set of six strings . 30 years ago , I was self teaching myself , but never fulfilled the task of playing successfully . My first set of strings was an original left handed Les Paul made in the early 50's . It was a rare one at that being an F hole hollow cut away with a single pickup . It was worth a pretty penny to say the least . But it's gone now and and to start fresh again , I picked up an Ibanez Artcore AS73L in Black Cherry ! So I am giving you fair warning , I sound like a sputtering 1st gen running on an 1/2 cylinder , . For the last 2 late evenings , I have been getting my finger tips all tendered up . I must be doing OK so far as the dog hasn't started howling yet and the wife hasn't tossed me or the guitar outside . I know we have some musicians here and perhaps when I do get good enough , we should have a jam session at one of the M & E or Rallies . BEER30
  19. Has anybody had any experience with these pads ?? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/YAMAHA-Brake-Pads-XVZ-1300-XV-1600-Royal-Star-Silverado_W0QQitemZ200396948242QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item2ea896c312#ht_2983wt_872 I just bought a rear set from local dealer ( $ 47 including tax )
  20. I'm looking for used passing lights and mounting hardware for my Midnight Venture. the reason I'm looking for used one's is ...My wife just bought another Horse ..and I bought someother stuff for my bike ..so my funds is a little down .
  21. I bought a chrome tank cover and liked the look, but since have bought a Clearview shield and with the more swept back angle of the Clearview the chrome reflects right in the viewing path, so I have put the black one back on.. Anyone looking to get a chrome one, I'll let this one go cheap, it is just sitting on the shelf in my garage.
  22. I bought a sealed-beam Halogen headlight to try in my VR. Has anyone tried this?
  23. So as many of you know when I bought my 03 RSV it had the stock mufflers on it. The guy I got it from had a GW before he bought this he had Sampson Fishtail mufflers that he put on but did not like them. Well today I took the saddlebags off to clean everything up really good and decided to go ahead and put the Fishtails on. It sounds GREAT to me a bit loud until you get to cruising speeds but I like it! I'm just wondering how much louder it will get with miles on them? The more I ride this bike the more I love it one GREAT MACHINE!!!!!! http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s37/VictoriaVett/100_1683-1.jpg
  24. :bang head:hi all i have a full exhaust on my rstd i just bought. and they did not jet the carb. is there a jet kit out there for a 05 rstd. i cant find one.
  25. I bought a plain royal star in 1996, and dressed it up from there, the way I liked it. I was single at the time, and spent quite a bit of time on the bike. Well, I met Beth, we hit it off, she wanted and deserved a better ride(air ride, tunes, intercom, comfy seat and backrest) and besides, the extra horsepower, looks, and electronic cruise did not hurt my feelings either. Couldn't afford to keep both, so I sold the royal star to a friend of mine, but said that I'd love to have it back if and when I could afford it. He traded it in on a Kawasaki Vulcan touring model, and I lost track of the bike, but was told by the dealership that he traded it in at that the fellow that bought it lived in a small town called Coboconk, which was about an hour and a half away, at the time. I always watched for the bike, hoping to meet the new owner, but it just did not happen. We moved back to the Windsor, ON area, and it's been 5 years since I've seen the bike. Well, guess what? While cruising the SCRC sites of the Ontario chapters, I found my old bike, and it WAS for sale. WAS being the key word, because today the most recent owner and I came to an agreement on my purchasing my royal star back. Isn't that something? What the heck are the chances of that happening??? Gotta love my wife, she is letting me go through with this. We are going to travel about 6.5 hours next Sunday and pick it up to bring back home!!! Here's a link to the pic of the bike that he had posted...... http://forums.delphiforums.com/Durham261/messages/?msg=1729.1 Isn't it sweet? So, now I have two royal stars in the garage, my old 96 plain jane, and the 04 Midnite Venture. I am certainly one lucky son of a gun!!! gunky
