  1. I have a 2005 Royal Star Venture. Recently (this riding season) I have been experiencing a problem. When listening to the radio, and trying to talk on the cb, the channel changes when I push the talk button. If the display unit is on the cb display, the cb channel changes. I've checked the connections in the fairing, and they are all good. Was wondering if maybe the talk switch was bad? I did have to spray some cleaner into it to be able to transmit. Any thoughts? Thanks, George
  2. Hey all you First Gen Gurus, Last fall I noticed what I thought at the time were indicators of a bad stator on my '83 Venture. I was riding it and noticed that when I would turn on my turn signals the voltage needle would fluctuate each time the turn signals flashed and also when the radiator fan would come on the voltage would dip from 14 - 16 volts down to about 10. Since it was time to put it in the barn (and also because a mechanic told me replacing the stator would require pulling the engine and a huge labor bill) I decided to deal with it this spring. Over the winter I kept a trickle charger on the battery and started it up every few weeks and it always seemed like it was putting out about 12 - 14 volts as long as it was running at idle. Since I wasnt riding it, i didnt see any of the earlier mentioned behaviour. When I got it out this spring suddenly the battery seemed to be dead, the voltage meter is at the bottom of the scale even after the charger has been on for 2 days at 2 amps. So now Im thinking dead cell in a reasonably new Deka Gell battery. The big question is...can a battery thats going bad make a non-techie boy like me think its the stator? Or is it more like the stator is bad and now the battery is as well? Or could it be the voltage regulator not functioning and not charging the battery or sending the correct voltages to the lights/instruments? Any advice or opinions would be welcome......Im also trying to decide if its time to put the old girl up for sale as a parts bike or fixer upper. Thanks! George0fthejungle
  3. Big hurdle cleared to start selling this crap. E-10 is bad enough - - this stuff is going to be really bad. I think the only winners in this whole thing will be the lawyers. Just my 2 cents. http://domesticfuel.com/2012/06/15/hurdle-cleared-for-sale-of-15-ethanol-blends/
  4. Is anyone here from Kaukauna, Wisconsin... I might be looking at a bike there if we work a deal out... Question is Kensports good or bad? Is Manitowoc Wis. a good place to stay over night... Thanks
  5. I figured I'd post here as I'm sure someone has the experience to guide me. For the last 2 days I have been getting a pungent sewer gas smell from a cabinet in my kitchen. This cabinet is not under the sink, but it is against the wall where I believe the main vent runs. It has been raining pretty bad for 2 or 3 days as well. I noticed a few things: 1 The smell (not as strong) is present in the cabinets of all bathroom sinks 2. I don't smell anything from the drain openings 3. The smell was almost gone then the wife ran the dishwasher & it got bad again! Am I correct in assuming that there must be a clog in a vent pipe? All the drains flow quickly. Could there be a clog at the main sewer trap outside the house which could cause the smell? I have never had this issue in the 5 years we've lived here. The house was built in 1993 so I know all the fixtures have P-traps and no modifications to the plumbing have been made. It is on a slab foundation. My plan is to go to the roof & snake the vents (& run some water in them) to see if it clears this out. Should I open & check the sewer main trap outside, or is that not needed since all the drains flow quickly? And to think I thought the gas smell from my gen one was annoying:bang head:
  6. I have recently put a lot of money into this bike; new needles and seats, diaphrams from sirius, progressive springs, had the tci resoldered and new diodes put in and had my seat redone by Rick ( which turned out great by the way). Was still running crappy. Rechecked the compression that I thought was good. Not so good. 3 cylinders were in the 120's and the back right was 100. Long story longer there is some blackening in that cyclinder and my mechanic thinks its either a bad ring or bad spring on the valves. 11 hour job. Now I either rebiuld or get a decent used motor with good compression. Or sell for what I can with the new owner knowing what he is in for. With all the info that has been compiled on this site I am considering trying to fix this thing myself if the cost is reasonable, even though I have never pulled a motor before. Also wondering what the cost would be to do this, rebuild or used motor. Any imput would help my decision. Thanks Doug
  7. hello every one i could use some advice on a motorcycle. as some people know i sold the 1984 venture royal. now i heard from my lawyer that my workers comp case is over and should have a settlement check by august. or as early as july? it,s not a fourtune. but should help me get a nice bike and take care of basic needs for a few years. im thinking of going with a smaller bike. bad knees and seat hight on the venture made it hard to handle. i heard about v stars? but do they make them larger then a 650cc. not that a 6500cc is bad. just want something that can get me down the highway,s and make trips with some comfort. someone said they made a 1100cc? or a 900cc? i dont want to realy leave the yamaha brand. and im thinking in the $3000.00 to $3500 range if that can be done ? on a good vstar. or something else you all can think of? thanks oldgoat
  8. One of them brought a Bobcat too, what was once a yard in bad need of mowing became a nice flat playground;
  9. Been poking around the local m/c on-line classifieds. What's with these people (both private and dealers) that they think they can gouge buyers just because it's "that time of year". I seen an ad somewhere for an '06 Cherry RSV and the guy was asking $14,500 for it ..... yeah, there's a sukker born every minute but none so bad as to fall for that price... geeeesh .... and these dealers...errrr, I mean STEALERS around here .... man!!! '03 Wing, no ABS, no farkles, 80,000 km .... $14,500 .... they're nutz! (rant off)
  10. This is not motorcycle related but for those of us who use the internet to order stuff such as household items, furniture, etc you need to check this place out. I have been dealing with them now for several years and their customer service, delivery, quality cant be beat. I have ordered futon mattresses, dishes, a whole living room set, office chairs and many other items from them usually at a pretty good price and free shipping to boot. Any time that I had an issue it was immediately resolved. I cannot say anything bad about them. Im sure your wife will like this site as well. Mine surely does....And they take PayPal. Were always looking for good places to deal with and I have found this place to be one of the best out there. http://www.wayfair.com
  11. Well I had a little time so I dug out my 83. I got the headlight changes, lowbeam still does not work GRRRR. I had already had it on the charger. Got it fired up, stung bad for a bit then cleared up. Took it out for a spin. Stopped at a friends place to chew the fat. when I went to leave the starter just growled, no start. I let it sit for a couple hours and tried again, nope not happening. We pushed it down his drive n got it started, not to hard. Got home and let it sit until I got home from work. Tried to start it and nothing. Checked the battery and it was dead so I figured it was bad and got a new one. Not the battery is dead again and still no start. Any ideas? Shaun
  12. I put a deposit on a new 2010 demo bike some exec at victory had today so I'm selling my venture or going to trade her. I have loved this bike since I first seen it and it's either a love it or hate it bike. I have yet to talk to one person who has one that has a bad word to say about them. I still plan on getting on here when I can since I'm busy now that I have custody of the kids and getting them straightened out! But it's getting better!
  13. I have replaced the fork seals on my 86 venture with Yamaha seals, the right side went together with no problems, the left seal leaked like a fountain. I have replaced it again and there is still a leak however not as bad. just seeping insteading of a steady steam. I can not figure out what I am doing wrong.
  14. Sounds like the mild winter is going to come to an abrupt end. Sleet and Ice turing to snow with strong winds in the next 48 hrs. Accumulations of up to 15 inches......I guess its not so bad. Another few weeks and we are on the downhill side of things. At least this isnt late november with another 4 months to look forward to.

  16. It's time to replace my old desktop pc in the den. A laptop would not work here and I was wondering if anybody had anything good or bad to say about the All In One pc's out today? All I do is surfing, paying bills, and social email etc. I ocassionally may backup something to the network server but thats the extent of this den machine. My thoughts are a All IN ONE with a wireless mouse and keyboard would be great. A 20+ inch screen would be nice to.No touchscreen is necessary. The less moving around in this lazy boy recliner the better I like it.
  17. Any one have experience with the My Best Buddy Trailer. Looking into getting one and would appreciate any comments good or bad. Thanks.
  18. I'm relatively new to side arms - in the Army I carried a 45 cal. - that's my experience. I was the recipient of a new Kel Tec P11 today and was wondering if there is something I should be aware of ? Would like to read the good, bad and the ugly Thanks
  19. Wikipedia among others, is considering a website blackout in protest of SOPA. I am a contributor to Wikipedia, and I think Jimmy Wales is right on. I'm ashamed to admit that one of the prime sponsors of this bad legislation is a Republican from Texas. I guess Lamar Smith has been corrupted by large wealthy Record and Movie industry PAC's. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act That link may be working or not depending on when you try it. 20. Got to burn almost a whole tank full through the the RSV this afternoon. Dodged a couple of rain showers. Saw a rainbow, but put the Frog Toggs on anyway and sho' 'nuff 5 minutes later the sun came out! That's the good news, the bad news I now have a 1999 "pogo stick"! The rear shock is completely "oil-less".
  21. Got the bike running today...thanks dingy . It has a couple of issues, though. It leaks more oil than the Exxon Valdez, it's got a water leak that I think is a bad hose, and 1 carb slide is a little sticky. But it's firing on all 4
  22. Now just what is it? Well I spent some time to make a spice rack for my wonderful wife,,, she wanted it for a long time,, but it involved cutting wood and that is not my specialty,,, but I done IT. Now of course the shop is all dusty and my Scamper is sitting there all covered in dust,,, not really all that bad, but bad enough to need a cleaning,,,,, sooooooo what better way to clean the dust off than go for a ride,,, SO I DONE IT. Didn't work so good, so maybe I have to try IT again, and ride a little longer and faster.
  23. Found this bouncin' around at work looking for some clean humor, hard to find these days, enjoy :] Susie's husband had been slipping in and out of a coma for several months. Things looked grim, but she was by his bedside every single day. One day as he slipped back into consciousness, he motioned for her to come close to him. She pulled the chair close to the bed and leaned her ear close to be able to hear him. "You know" he whispered, his eyes filling with tears, "you have been with me through all the bad times. When I got fired, you stuck right beside me. When my business went under, there you were. When we lost the house, you were there. When I got shot, you stuck with me. When my health started failing, you were still by my side. "And you know what?" "What, dear?" she asked gently, smiling to herself. "I think you're bad luck."
  24. Setting here day after day after day staring at the same four walls day in and day out something has to snap. Tonight it snapped, and I cut loose. No food, no money I said to hell with it and went shopping, I have check protection with my credit union so every bad check I write only costs me $20 more. I went to the grocery store and bought $174 worth of food so we didn't have to live on roman noodles for the rest of the month. I went 11 days being so sick I could barely get out of bed before I broke down and went to the Doctor that I could not afford and found out I have a lung and sinus infection which is the reason I could hardly breathe and had such god awful headaches and then had to pay him and then pay for prescriptions. Then today if it could go bad it went bad, I came home after writing a bad check for food to have my Daughter waiting for me crying that her knee hurt. Why did her knee hurt? She used the small step latter we have to try and get something off the top shelve in her bedroom at the bigger mobile home we just moved into and evidently she didn't lock the latter into place because it folded up on her and she fell (she is OK thankfully because as of Oct 1st the state of Michigan felt she no longer qualified for health insurance ) and put her knee threw the wall in her room and fell across the cable hook up for her TV and ripped it out the back of the TV. So I go and escape tonight to the local bar and spend $40 drinking jack and coke and talking with friends and strangers over 13 years old just to get away from it all. So now I will beat myself to death for the rest of the month because I spent $40 on myself and wrote a bad check for food that will set me back at the first of the month when I get my next disability check. You all need to take a careful look at how you are prepared for life, I thought I had everything taking care of, but one fall down the basement stairs changed my life forever, insurance and the government will make sure you loose everything you saved and have before they lift a finger in your behave. No Christmas tree this year because there is no presents to put under it. I have to keep the internet going because the schools don't supply books anymore and my Daughter has to go on line for homework, have to pay rent to keep a roof over our heads, got to pay consumers to have heat and power, have to pay for water and sewer and garbage pickup, need to pay insurance to drive, need to pay medicade for insurance and silverstone for prescriptions just like any one of you do. So now I will spend the rest of the month hating myself for spending $40 stinking dollars on myself instead of setting at home going nuts. Lot of people do not understand (like I didn't) what it means to be broke, not the broke that you used up you allotted money for the month and you can just get more out of the bank or the credit card, but the kind of broke that there is just no more money to get. How do you decide what to write a bad check for, for food or for a winter coat, boots and gloves. She just will have to be cold going and coming to and from school but she will have food to eat. Guess I have ranted enough even though it's only a fraction of what I want to be able to say, but it sucks when you realize that you used to go to bed praying that things will be better or not worse tomorrow to going to bed wishing you don't wake up the next morning. Thanks for being there to let me rant.....Karl.
  25. I just had to share this. A couple bad words but very funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUY-H3vWhzY%26hl
