  1. Has anyone added a cd changer to their 1st Gen WITHOUT removing any of the stock audio stuff? I was thinking about mounting a cd changer in the trunk only if there was some way of wiring the audio into the present system without removing anything and installing it so that if I wanted, I could stilll use any of the original audio. I would just hate to ruin the OEM set-up. Has anyone performed this already? If you have, I'd love to hear from ya.
  2. I had asked yesterday what the back up fuse work for. Well I finally followed it through the wiring diagram. You will all be happy to know it fuses the audio and cb system. Sure enough without it, no radio or cb. Bob
  3. When I first got my 2009 Venture home...I noticed that when playing the music through the SPEAKERS...that the volume was speed controlled. In other words...at various speeds the volume would "auto" increase on it's own. I specifically remember that at 50mph the volume would go up quite a bit. That no longer happens. And I know about a month ago that the control center (black box on the left handlebar)...kinda FROZE UP and it took awhile for it unfreeze. So I don't know when it happened OR if there is a SETTING for that...has anyone experienced this or know about if it is a setting related thing in the audio controller. Thanks, Wally
  4. I have been lurking on the forum for sometime picking up info on various things. However, I have a question and need some help with the answer. I have a 2009 RSTD and my wife and I like to wear half helmets. What are my options for audio between the two of us. I am not really interested in cb, radio or cd. I would just like to be able to talk while going down the road. Thanks for any help in advance.
  5. On my recent trip to california my brand new Garmin stopped audio function through the internal speaker and aux output. Anyone had a similar problem. Only mod I did was to split the aux input behind the casette deck so I would not have to ride with the door open. Working fine till I shut it off then no output. Works fine through the FM transmitter I should add. By the way the audio books are a geat thing to listen too crossing the desert.
  6. Oh fer croid's sake.. lol Since the bike is out of action for a coupla days I went and 'washed it' and promptly broke it again.. gremlins do vex me. After washing the bike the radio speakers were crackling.. odd sound, I thought it was just perhaps static because I was bringing the bike into the garage.. But when I turned the bike back on to check something the radio would not come online at all.. no audio/ radio / CB or another.. the controller is stone cold dead.. next please. I'm thinking something got really wet and shorted out.. Does anyone know where the fuse is for the radio?
  7. I want to tie the audio output from a navigation system to the audio system of the motorcycle. It needs to mute the radio when it talks. Since we always use headsets the audio through the headsets is the ideal solution. Essentially, I want it to act like a 3rd mic on the intercom. That way it mutes the radio and we hear it through the headsets. I'm wondering if I can't piggy back it onto one of the headset mics using a circuit similar to the one in the drawing. Sure would appreciate input from the electronics wizards.
  8. Hi: Does anyone know if there is an extra RCA line level output, or subwoofer output available on the 2nd Gen Venture stereo? I am looking at possibly adding a Clarion SRV314 subwoofer but will need an audio signal. This sub can accept a line level RCA signal or speaker level so either would work. Any idea where I would start to look to find out if it does have one? I am looking to get a bit more bass to go with my polk audio dB 401s. Ron
  9. Not sure how or why, but the audio controller housing is cracked and the bottom edge has fallen off. It still works but I think only the wires are holding it on. Does anybody have a "dud" controller with a good housing???
  10. Thought I would share this. This happened to me about half way through our 350 miles of rain on the way to Bogalusa. The next day I went through all the connections and found them to be still clean, dry of water and greased with dielectric grease just as I had done a year ago. Symptom: Any audio source from speakers is severely distorted. The distortion is so bad you can not understand anything. This initially occurs at a volume setting of about 18 or above which is my normal cruzin' level. If the level is kept around 10 or so, it sounds ok for a while but eventually becomes distorted. All the while the head set audio is clear. The dealer has ordered a replacement audio amp unit (warranty) after confirming with Yamaha that is is a known symptom. Just as a side note, the retail cost for the replacement is $1400.
  11. Here is a site posted by Flash41 in another thread that has just about any kind of video editing, audio editing, ripping software that you will probably ever need. All free. Great resource. http://dvdvideosoft.com/
  12. Radio, CB, MP3 and other External Audio (still under construction) Q: How do I use an MP3 player or other audio device with my Venture? A: There is an Aux input jack right next to the stat-of-the-art cassette player in the fairing. In addition, many owners have used a splitter in the Aux input line to add an additional input jack right next to the Aux power jack on the left side of the fairing (be advised, however, that you should NOT connect two external audio devices at the same time, even if you have two jacks, unless you use some type of external isolation device to prevent probably damage to one or both of the audio devices). Please see the threads in this section of the Technical Library for all the answers: [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=74]Radio, CB, GPS, Etc. - VentureRider.Org[/ame] Q: My CB antenna is on a different side of the bike than my buddy's antenna - how do I know which one is right, and does it make a difference? A: The CB antenna should be on the left side of the trunk. It makes a difference because the CB unit is mounted under the trunk, and the antenna wire from it is not long enough to reach the CB antenna if it was mounted on the wrong side during dealer prep of your bike.
  13. Has anyone ever seen or thought about making a control box that can plug into the existing CD player wiring (located in the saddle bag), then have an Ipod plugged into it, that converts the command signals from the built-in audio system to the Ipod, and also converts the audio from the Ipod back into the built-in audio system? (Whew, that was a long question.) I have seen other threads that just plug the Ipod into the existing Aux jack and use various wireless remotes to control it. It seems the holy grail though would be to use the existing CD interface that the bike already has. No extra wiring or remote. I am sure if the control box I describe existed, people would pay for it. I know I would.
  14. As you may know I recently changed the rear tire. Took both bags off and had to disconnect the CD player. Now I have no audio. All other electrics seem to be fine. I disconnected the CD player and still no audio. Checked the "audio" fuse (behind the lower fairing) and it is good. Any thoughts? I thought I may have shorted something, but apparently since the fuse is good that is not the case. Just thought this may have happened to someone else. Thanks.

    CB radio

I have a question. Do you need a headset plugged in to hear the CB? I know that you need a mike to talk but can't you listen through the audio system?
  16. I have lost voice on my whole system. No CB, no intercom with passenger and no cell phone using Buddy Rich Cable (worked fine before). Not sure if anyone else has had such a problem and where I could look for this. It all started about 2 weeks ago. Not sure if this may be related or not. I had my bike parked in buddy's driveway and his wife backed in my bike on the left side. That flipped the bike on the right and it rolled a fair bit (enough to scratch the top of the fairing and windshield). It may have pulled on the audio cable....not sure. To test I have exchanged helmet with my passenger and still same. I can hear her but she can't hear me. Same goes with the phone and CB, I can hear but they can't hear me. Any idea? I will ask the dealer to look at it under the insurance claim or under warranty....his choice I would think this is covered by warranty...right? Thanks for any suggestions.
  17. On my '07 Midnight Venture, one of the screws, which attaches the Audio Head unit (which is mounted on the handlebars) has fallen out and is lost. The other screw is still there, so the audio control unit sort of pivots now. But, I figure that it would be best to have both of them where they belong. I believe that there are just the two screws which secure that unit from below. Does anyone know what that part number is please? I might as well have the shop replace it under warranty when I have the bike in there this next week for service. Thanks guys! Pete.
  18. The audio system on my 99 just doesn't seem to have enough power through the headsets. I have some of the mid-range (pricewise) J & M headsets, and with the IC at it's highest setting we sometimes struggle to hear each other. In addition, the radio volume seems weak also. At full volume it is still none too loud. I am running Road King pipes, so the exhaust volume isn't the problem. It does seem that the CB has plenty of volume....it'll blow my ears out. Just seems like the audio system doesn't have enough output power. Is this typical of the RSV's? Oh....I forgot to add that when I am playing MP3's through my GPS's player function I can get plenty of volume. Of course, the GPS has a volume control for the output so I can crank it up. One more thing......does the IC on the RSV really NOT have a VOX control? I can't find it if it does.... That seems incredible that an IC system would not include a VOX adjustment. Thanks, Joe
  19. I want to install a set of Nasty Boys 4-2-4's on my 06 RSTD but would like to hear them first , is there anyone who has an audio clip that I could hear
  20. I was just thrown into the 21st century on fathers day when my kids got me an MP3 player. Now I want to add a mini jack to my existing stock audio system so I can listen to the MP3 player or even plug a Garmin GPS to it. This would be on a 1st Gen an 86 VR. I have the stock wiring out of the standard maintenance manual, but has anyone spliced into the wiring to add a mini jack? and where did you connect it ? I want to be able to use the intercom and CB while listening to the MP3. I thought I read that someone gutted their cassette player and wired a MP3 player through it, but couldn't find the post as I searched through the post on MP3 players and audio. Did he wire right into the wiring? That's what I am looking to do. I don't want to upgrade the player, I have a FM modulator but too many cords and hate changing the stations when you leave or go into a different area. I think the best option would be to add a mini jack.
  21. I'm going to mount a GPS NAV system on my 89 and think it would be great to tie it's audio output into the intercom system so the NAV will interrupt the radio when it talks. Now, the audio output on the unit is enough to drive headphones so I bet it's way too much signal to tie directly into the MIC input on the amp. Anyone got any suggestions on how to properly make this connection?
  22. The other members in my riding group say the audio from my CB is a lot lower than everyone else. The audio is crisp and clear, but just not very loud. The receive audio is fine, it's just the transmit audio that doesn't have much punch. I have a 2009 RSV and have checked and double-checked all of the connectors and they're all good. I've also replaced the OEM antenna with a Firestick FireFly and the SWR is 1.2 to 1 and I have a good signal. I'd like to avoid taking the bike to Yamaha service until I absolutely have to. I'd rather fiix it myself. Has anyone found a solution to this problem. Have you tweeked the modulation pot on the Clarion circuit board? Does anyone have a schematic of the Clarion CB unit or can tell me the number of the modulation potentiometer on the board? Thanks guys, David K4ZZR
  23. 2003 Venture. Haven't seen this exactly in search of posts. Has anyone removed cassette and replaced with aftermarket audio? I realize would require losing door and trimming opening to fit. I hate stock audio system. Don't use CB or intercom. Would give away stock audio unit to anyone interested. Just looking for advice, I don't need to re-invent wheel (just maybe audio system). Thanks for any input!
  24. I have been researching this for weeks now. and I have one on it's way to me... the Yaesu FTM-10R dual band water and dust proof motorcycle radio. It does 2 meter, 440, has a FM/AM receiver, allows ipod input and can wire up to two headsets and has intercom between them as well as audio sharing. It also has a stereo audio amp to drive my speakers in the faring. On second gens it looks like it would fit in the cassette location. on first gens it can pretty much mount anywhere. This will allow me to stay single antenna and still feed my ham radio hobby. and if I want to be "naughty" I can mod the radio for Marrs and CAP operation and transmit/recieve on the FRS frequencies to talk to the other guys in the riding group. 440mhz on low power is 3 watts, so if you stick to the high channel numbers and get a GMRS license you will be "technically" legal. just transmitting on a radio without the correct FCC type certification.
  25. OK folks, I got home late last night and barely had time to play with the new Zumo 550 before going to bed. This morning I stuck it in my work car so that I could try it out a bit today. Now, my work car is a 2008 Dodge Caravan. It has an AM/FM/CD unit with RCA type inputs on the front for auxiliary in. I use it all the time with my Sirius radio with a 1/8" stereo to dual RCA plugs to run from the Sirius unit to the car's stereo. The way it works is that when you plug an audio source into the aux input jacks on the stereo, it automatically switches to aux. I simply unplugged the stereo plug from the Sirius and plugged it into the audio out jack of the Garmin car mount. It worked great at first but then it started losing the aux in signal. There is an indicator on the stereo that says "Aux" when something is plugged in. If it is on aux though and there is no input signal, the display says "No Aux Found". It will show "Aux" and work fine for a few minutes and then "No Aux Found" for a few minutes and during those times there is no MP3 nor navigation prompts heard from the Garmin. Also, I notice that if I press the pause button on the Garmin MP3 player, I also lost navigation prompts as long as the MP3 is paused. I'm thinking that all of this has something to do with the way the aux input works on my cars stereo but was wondering if any of you have run into a similar problem. The only way I can double check it would be to get it installed on the bike and go for a VERY cold ride.
