  1. I was out riding today and it was warm. My lower vents are worn and always flop over closed so my legs were toasting. I had to stop at Wally World and pick up a few things and I ended up in the automotive section. I don't know why but I was looking at air freshers and saw these lil slip on jobs that go down inside the vent and have a clip on the side that snaps over the air conditioning vent louver. Wait a minute.....air conditioning vent.......lower air vent.....Hummm? They are the right size to slip in and stay in place. They come in a pack of 4 of a $1.28. It worked like a charm, held the vents wide open and got the breeze back on my knees. Not to mention I still smelled pretty good myself after 200 miles. Not such a selection of manly scents like "Burning Rubber" or "High Octane" but I can get by with vanilla on a hot day. Hey....the ladies like ice cream......right? Who says an air fresher is pointless on a bike? Snaggletooth
  2. I got myself a Stebel Air Horn but did not wish to place it where the factory horn was located , nor inside the front fairing like most others . The fact that inside the front fairing muffled the optimal decibels that the Stebel air horn provided . Relocating it in place of the factory horn allowed optimal decibel sound on the right side of the RSV, but not on the left side . I wanted equal amount of sound on both sides of the RSV, so I searched numerous possible location as to where to mount the Stebel air horn . I looked towards mounting up in front under the triple tree on the front forks , but not enough clearance and bad idea if the front forks were fully compressed . I looked towards mounting under trunk , but did not want the navigator to jump up and disrupt my driving if I were to suddenly blast away , if you know what I mean . So, I looked towards the underside of the RSV. And to my observation , there was enough room behind the lowers and along side of the oil filter to where a large enough cavity was located to mount the Stebel air horn . I made a mount simply out of 1/8” x 3/4 “ x 2 ½” metal strapping . Using the exiting mounting bolt on the Stebel at which I believe was a 1/4” diameter by 1”, I drill a 1/4" hole on one end to secure to the Stebel horn . I drilled a second hole 3/8” measuring from center of the 1/4 “, 1 3/8” to center . Pictures 1 and 2 show how I made the bracket. Note:You may want to pre-wire the horn mounting as I did by making pig-tails with plug-in terminals as you will have to remove the horn during oil changes. As you see in picture 3, a 14mm acorn nut that is connected to a bolt which passes through the frame . I removed the acorn nut and removed the bolt. Taking that bolt and passing back through the 3/8" hole on the new mounting bracket on the Stebel horn and placed it back into original hole and re-tightened the bolt with the orriginal acorn nut . You will want to maneuver the horn to where it does not make contact to any other part of the RSV, especially the oil filter, then tighten down the bracket . In pictures 4, 5 and 6, you can see that the Stebel horn does hang down lower that the driver’s floorboard brackets , but not as nearly as much that the motor’s oil pan . I have not had any issues as of yet going over obstacles such as trailer loading or curbs, but do take precautions at the least . I also used the air tube inlet that was provided with the Stebel air horn and routed the opposite end up and behind the lowers to not take in water during rain or road wash. Wiring the Stebel, I used the relay provided when I purchased the horn. I mounted the relay under the right side battery cover. There are numerous threads on how to wire up the relay. I chose to go connect the main power to the relay straight to the battery and ground it to the frame. To activate the air horn, I connected the factory horn terminals themselves. Therefore I did not have to monkey around running longer wires, nor adding more drain on the RSV’s wiring. Muffinman was gracious enough to supply the terminals tome and I cannot remember the correct name of these. I have seen at the auto parts store. These terminals have 1 female with 2 male blades on them, which allowed me to both connect the factory horn wiring and the wiring back to the Stebel horn relay . I have been running my Stebel air horn in this location for almost 6+ months now. Placed over 3K miles on the scoot even through major rainstorms. By mounting the Stebel under the scoot, the horn itself is projecting it’s blast towards the ground, echoing the 138 decibels equally on both right and left sides of the RSV. The Stebel horn has not taken in any water to cause malfunction as of yet and with the horn itself is pointed to the rear, it does not scoop up any rain or dirt. Plus I still have the factory horns as well! BEER30
  3. When I stop gently the front brakes or fork make these noises especially when starting out. The service manager says it's normal(surprise). Is it? Also will the front fork hold air for more than a day? Thanks!
  4. well thanks to muffinman getting me a output shaft i finnally got my bike back together. seems to run pretty good but i think the cluthes are slipping a little bit so i already have my next project ready for e. that and i put in new fork seals and i'm not sure if the anti dive is working right. my front end wobble is gone but it seems like it might have sort of a hop in the front-end. went for a ride again tonight though with the air in the front on low and it seemed alot better so it might just be that i finally have the forks full of fluid and need to relearn my air settings when riding. anyhow another venture back on the road thanks to all the help here.
  5. ...am going to have to get used to it. I was having a problem with my front struts bottoming out after I put in new seals. One reason was it had lost all air. In the 13 years I have had this bike, the shocks have always held good air and I usually kept about 10psi in the front. So, since I got a brand new, still in the box, set off ebay for about $63, I thought I would just put them in. I removed the grills around the steering and in no time I had them apart. I filled the fluid level to 5.5 inches with the struts compressed as directed. After extending the struts, I then slid the spring in and it was about 3/4 inch below the top of the strut, so that gave me no preload. I expected to get some lift on the front of the bike, but it gave me a lot. I went from being almost flat footed to being up on my tip toes on flat ground. I am also having to get used to the ride being on the edge of being harsh. Hitting some off ramps that were a little bumpy before are now down right rough. I took a ride at lunch after lowering my rear shock pressure from about 60psi to about 25psi and that definately helped on the footing. I will probably need to add some air back with a passenger. I have even thought about looking at the possibility of sliding my front tubes up some in the tripple tree. The problem with that is if I slid them up a half inch, that would only make about a quarter inch difference on my footing. RandyA
  6. Has anyone run the Kumho higher than 44psi? I like the tire until I get into a turn hard then I feel like I'm driffting on a dirt bike. Just wondering if more air will stiffen the side wall up or is this just part of the darkside you have to live with?

  8. I just a large round of pre-road trip maintenance on the bike tonight, oil and filter, new set of plugs, and recharge the air filters.. I had done the plugs and air filter 12,000 miles ago and they looked spanking brand new, fresh red on the K&N and spark plugs had a nice colour to them (though I will post pics of them later on for your visual interpretation of them..) I goofed when I put the oil in though, seems I added way too much.. almost 4 full litres instead of the usual 3.5 litres when doing the filter as well. Silly question, ought I be better off to drain the excess or will it simply vent out and be no cause for concern except for possible mess on the bike? With the bike upright, warm engine, the oil sits to the top of the glass, when on it's side stand, it's in the middle. Personally, I'd drain but was always curious about this.. Thanks in advance.
  9. Good evening all. Just came in from the garage where I was beating myself up with this problem, i.e, #2 air valve not responding to throttle whatsoever. I ensured the vacuum port was clean and clear by squirting B12 through the port and it exiting from the top of the carb; then used moderately high pressure air with the same results. The diaphragm is good, no holes, no tears and attached with no separation. The small oring was/is in place. Carbs sync perfectly creating 24 mb of hg at idle (1050 rpm). Plug is firing. Good vacuum at the boost sensor vacuum port on the carb manifold. Everything checks out except for a dead air valve. What the h....! I have two more nights to figure this out or I am left with taking my Ultra to the rally. I really won't mind doing that but I would much rather ride the Venture because it is a much better bike. Any more ideas. H______E_______L________P!!!!
  10. Folks... Just found a great deal on Air horns and decided to let every one know. I bought the one for the motorcycles for $ 30.00 and got a couple extras for an old powerwagon that I'm rebuilding. I got the black ones but they also have the chrome and marine grade. Take a look at the website, it's simple and inexpensive....just thought I'd let you know. Ken Here's the address: http://Kalmari.ecrater.com

  12. I have a 96 RSTD with a factory hydraulic shock.........with two up, and some gear for the weekend, the rear bottoms out.......I'm 6'4" and 280 wife is 6 foot and 200. So I don't know if anyone makes a performance shock, or I'd be better off with an air shock unit, and have found NO sources for modification other than o.e. replacment......any help?
  13. So...I'm torn between an Air Hawk seat cushion or a beaded seat cover. I live in Central Florida and ride the RSV to work in the morning when it's nice and cool. Often times, I have to ride between sites. When I get off the bike (because of the high high temps and humidity), my butt is soaked! Does the Air Hawk provided enough air flow to keep the "sweat factor" at a minimum? Or are the beaded seat covers really the way to go?
  14. I was in Walmart yesterday looking for something and stumbled across a "Quick and Easy" motorcycle dryer. It looks exactly like the Air Force Blaster sold by shops for up to $200. I have a friend that paid $180 for his. I knew they were expensive but there was no price on the ones in Walmart. I took one to a clerk for price check and it was only $20, that's right $20. Didn't have to think about that very long. It has the same specs (4.0 hp, 29,400 ft/min air) and accessories that are shipped with the air blaster. For a picture see: http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=B3%2DCD Apparently this is a close-out item at Walmart so you may have trouble finding it. Dennis
  15. Seems there might be some Afro Engineering (or is it Redneck) going on here. What are the funnels (for lack of a better/correct term) Seems like they are not seated correctly on the left side?? Would that make a difference in performance? Should I worry about it? Now that my head gaskets have been replaced it seems like I have less pep/get up and go! Could this be related to a carb issue (air filter doesn't look bad but will probably replace) Do i need to look at a carb sync? If so is there someone within say +/- 100 miles who could (and would) help? btw. fuel is still running around 40 See what else I can find! Thanks,
  16. I had the pleasure of meeting my first venturerider brother today. Walter (wes0778) what a cool guy. He showed me what the big craze is about on these Stebel air horns, folks that will be my next purchase. Anyway Walter good to meet you my friend. Carl
  17. Hey All, I was on ebay looking at the various mono rear shocks for different makes and models. The price they want New and Used for a 2nd Gen Rear Shock is Crazy. Does anyone knows if a shock made for a different bike will fit a 2nd Gen??? Does the RSV shock have to be air assisted or will a standard shock work? Yes mine needs to be replaced, all oil has leaked out, still holds air, but not wanting to go to far, especially two up, with it that way. Thanks, Later-
  18. Paul

    New Project

Well I finally am building my trailer here are a few pics. I cut down a HF trailer to 30 inches wide and CNC'D the diamond plate at work. I still have to mount my diamond plate bumper along witl my LED lights. I put a slot in for a divider which will be for the dog when we take him. I am making 2 different tops. A solid one for regular use and one with a cutout with a little high rise box with widows with screens for air intake and I also have to put one more exhaust in the back that will have 3 small computer fans (which will draw as little power as LEDs) to pull the air through. I have to finish the cooler rack which I will line with orange acrylic and then polish the aluminum then the flames will be orange from the outside. I am going to make it so I can take it off the trailer and mount it to my hitch platform when not using the trailer. I am going to get someone to tig weld all my seams to make it water tight and I should be good to go after I put the fenders (with diamondplate mudflaps with small flames cut out in them. It should be sharp when its done if I can find some hubcaps that will fit the 8 inch wheels as the ones I see say they are for golf carts and they are different rims. Anyway let me know what you think. When its all done I will only have about $350 into it as I got all my aluminum at cost and programmed the CNC myself and cut it on my own time. (its nice having a key to the shop) And being that it is aluminum it is very light. Paul
  19. Okay, now for a dumb question. I just purchased a 2005 RSTD and I have no idea how to adjust the shocks. The previous owner lost the manual and I checked the bike out and cannot find any clue as to how to physically introduce air into the shocks, both the front and rear. Can anyone answer this simple question for me? Thanks!
  20. my dear YAMA BROTHERS here is a question that even the pros ( dealer) couldn't answear so i turn to my brothers. i have a 2003 midnight venture and i did the universal joint on in and when i remove the rear shock i also removed the air line attached to it and accidently spilled oil from inside the shock. does anyone know how much oil is in the shock or how much to put back in if the shock is completly empty thank you
  21. Luke AFB is west of Phoenix and is rapidly being surrounded by civilization that complains about the noise from the base and its planes, forgetting that it was there long before they were. A certain lieutenant colonel at Luke AFB deserves a big pat on theback. Apparently, an individual who lives somewhere near Luke AFB wrote the local paper complaining about a group of F-16s that disturbed his/her day at the mall. When that individual read the response from a Luke AFB officer, it must have stung quite a bit. The complaint: Question of the day for Luke Air Force Base: Whom do we thank for the morning air show? Last Wednesday, at precisely 9:11 A.M, a tight formation of four F-16 jets made a low pass over Arrowhead Mall, continuing west over Bell Road at approximately 500 feet. Imagine our good fortune! Do the Tom Cruise-wannabes feel we need this wake-up call, or were they trying to impress the cashiers at Mervyns early bird special? Any response would be appreciated. The response: Regarding 'A wake-up call from Luke's jets', on June 15, at precisely 9:12 a.m., a perfectly timed four-ship fly by of F-16s from the 63rd Fighter Squadron at Luke Air Force Base flew over the grave of Capt. Jeremy Fresques. Capt Fresques was an Air Force officer who was previously stationed at Luke Air Force Base and was killed in Iraq on May 30, Memorial Day. At 9 a.m. on June 15 , his family and friends gathered at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City to mourn the loss of a husband, son and friend. Based on the letter writer's recount of the fly by, and because of the jet noise, I'm sure you didn't hear the 21-gun salute, the playing of taps, or my words to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques as I gave them their son's flag on behalf of the President of the United States and all those veterans and servicemen and women who understand the sacrifices they have endured.. A four-ship fly by is a display of respect the Air Force gives to those who give their lives in defense of freedom. We are professional aviators and take our jobs seriously, and on June 15 what the letter writer witnessed was four officers lining up to pay their ultimate respects. The letter writer asks, 'Whom do we thank for the morning airshow? The 56th Fighter Wing will make the call for you, and forward your thanks to the widow and parents of Capt Fresques, and thank them for you, for it was in their honor that my pilots flew the most honorable formation of their lives. Only 2 defining forces have ever offered to die for you....Jesus Christ and the American Soldier. One died for your soul, the other for your freedom. Lt. Col. Grant L. Rosensteel, Jr. USAF

  23. I just took my new Time Out camper on it's maiden voyage today. Since this is my first trailer I still have alot to learn. The camper pulled great and I did'nt have any major problems. There was one thing that kept happening that I don't know how to correct. I stopped at several intersections and when I had to turn left or right from a stop the front of my RSV started to wobble slightly. When I straightened out it stopped wobbling. I had 30 pounds of tongue weight and I had put air in the rear shocks. I did'nt add any air to the front shocks. Anybody have any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate it.
  24. I haven't changed my air filters. The dealer did it the last time so I looked around on the bike yesterday to see about removing them and didn't find an easy way to get them off. Do you have to remove the lower fairings in order to get the filters off? Thanks, Dennis
  25. I was down at the dock taking some measurements at the bottom of the steps when I heard a humming noise that got louder and louder. I thought it was an approaching aircraft as there has been a fair bit of air traffic as a result of an air-show over the weekend. It was getting rather loud and must have been fairly close because I could feel a vibration in the air... it was then that I looked up and realized I was amidst a swarm of bees! The bees made a cloud that was at least 25ft in diameter and were blocking my exit from the dock. After about twenty minutes the swarm was starting to thin as they were collecting in an adjacent tree, they didn’t seem too interested in me so I cautiously made my way past them and out in the clear. What a relief! Buzzing insects make me nervous and can be quite startling for me (especially when I’m riding along and catch one in the helmet... don’t ask me how I know!). I’ve never witnessed anything like this before so it was quite an experience. Here are some photos as they started collecting in the tree…
