  1. The dealer that did my Hannigan trike used a rake of 4 1/2 degrees.Hannigan, in Murray Ky, uses a rake of 6 degrees. Does the 1 1/2 degrees make a difference in the steering. All trikers chime in.
  2. My new-to-me 97 Tour Classic came with a Yamaha Windshield. It measures 23 1/2 inches from the headlight opening to the top. I assumed that was the "Tall" that was originally on the bike. The shield itself has the protective coating pealing off really badly which makes looking through it when the sun hits near impossible. So since I need a new windshield anyway, I am trying to purchase a "Medium" so that I can look over the top. Now as far as I can tell checking data from various websites the Yamaha windshields come in three sizes each 3 inches shorter than the next: Tall - 23 1/2 inches Medium - 20 1/2 inches Short - 17 1/2 inches So twice now I have won auctions from two different sellers on E-Bay selling a Medium Royal Star Windshield. Problem is when I get them they measure 17 1/2 inches which I believe to be a short - not the medium I thought I was buying. The first one the seller stated he was unsure and just "thought" it was a medium and took it back. The last one even had the following part number on it: STR-4NL07-10-00, which, when I looked it up showed a medium, but when I just opened the box it measures 17 1/2 inches again. So, as sit here for a second time very frustrated: What is the true measurement of the Yamaha "Medium"? What Yamaha Part Number should I be looking for if I want a medium shield for a 97 Tour Classic?
  3. I'm riding in a parade this week end so I needed a flag. Went to the HD place and bought a HD trunk flag. Filed away the inside of it a bit and it fits great. SO. While I was there I saw the shorty antennas for the Ultra. COOL!!!! So I bought them. Their about 18" high instead of the 40" I have now. They are also properly loaded for AM/FM and the CB transmission. Now the Venture antenna has a male 1/2" SAE or something like that. The HD antenna has a female 9mm. I need a 1/2 male SAE to 9mm male adaptor. Anybody ever been here??????
  4. wish i had one of these before i lost 1/2 of my thumb http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=E3mzhvMgrLE&NR=1
  5. My son and his wife just had a new Baby boy. his name is Micheal Luke. He came in 1 & 1/2 months early at 5 lbs 6 ozs. Meet my new grandson
  6. Was in Wally-World just looking while Warden shopped. ( With her shopping I don't have any money to spend!!!) Anyway ended up at their small collection of bike stuff. A young guy was there with a little Blonde that was VERY VERY VERY good looking and built like Rachael Welch. She was trying on 1/2 helmets. I watched a little asked what he was riding to get talk flowing. Then I asked him if he liked her. Of course answer was yes. So I asked " You don't like her face?" Proceded to explain my thoughts on 1/2 lid on that pretty thing. They both ended up thanking me and left with fullface helmet. Made me feel good. So on way home saw a truck beside superslab with hood up. Stopped and got it started for him and sent him on his way. How was your day???
  7. Happened for the first time today. Went out for a ride with almost a full tank of gas, look down and the warning light is on and it's showing empty. I eased it for another few miles to the next station with my butt sucking a hickey on the seat because I didn't know if the gage went out or if I had a leak and was actually out of gas. Filled up and it only held about 1 1/2 gallons, rode about another 150 miles and the gage would go from showing completely full to bone dry empty and back again. Filled up a few miles from home and I had only ran out another 1/2 tank or so. Where do I start to fix this blasted thing???
  8. Well, been home for a week now recouping from sholder surgery, WAY to much time on my hands before I go back to work. Tinkering in my work shop, I want to run several more lines remotely off my air compressor so I have alternate locations that I can plug in air tools, etc. I am thinking of using 1/2" inch PVC pipe? Anyone have any experience with this? Just thinking 1/2" as its cheeper that 3/4"? Would ther be a difference in air flow CFM,s etc between 1/2" and 3/4"????????? Air is used mostly for blowing off parts, drying and a 3/4" air ratchet. Light sanding, no heavy spray painting or orbital sanding? Any hints?
  9. Got my chrome all on, added another light and had her all shinned up for Sunday. But Sunday did not live up to its name and it was wet and cold. But today the sun came out and even tho I had to putt 4 miles of dirt road to get to pavement- cuz theres a bad bad mudhole my usual 1/2 mile to the pavement, I was able to get some wind in my face. First ride of the year and she felt good, bike felt strong and im excited for summer!

  11. AS was suggested, I tried get a feel for my vibration issue I talked to the dealer today. They said it would be a 1hr to 1 1/2 hr to do the job. I was trying to get an idea if it's under warranty...nothing said to that. I also was told that my vibration issues would not likely be solved by a carb sync. What say yea all?
  12. Almost 80 degrees today...wanted to take the bike for a spin. It wasn't handling properly...thought perhaps tire pressure. Sure enough it was low...while adding air realized that the valve stem was rotted and broken. The bike is only two and 1/2 yrs old...this surprises me. Anyway, I need to get it repaired...I am not much of a mechanic and I am wondering how difficult it is to remove the front wheel. Appreciate any advice.
  13. Any bowhunters here that use a decoy ? Is it worth it to buy one ? I have rattled in a few real big 8 and 10 pointers, only to have them hang up about 40 or more yards out. The 1 1/2 to 2 year old 4,6,and 8 pts. seem to come on in.
  14. Ahhh, Leaving on a trip Thursday for a few and also next week. I ordered the car tire and the jerks at Tire easy never e-mailed confirmation or answered a phone.....Heck I need a tire so I have to run 60 miles and pay $199 for an elite II due to the time frame. I get home and sitting at my door is the Kumho tire??? Now that's a pain in the ass... With business prep I can't mount this tire (time) and have it scheduled for a morning install locally. I sure liked the look of the kumho and am sure the $199 + Tax tire is going back to the dealer (I hope). I wish Tire Easy had communicated or kept their site updated. It would have saved me 1/2 a day today and 1/2 on the return....Sometimes it just gets complicated:doh:

    Bill's Old Bike Barn

Wife and I took a ride up to Bloomsburg PA to visit Bill's Old Bike Barn. If you haven't gone there yet, it is a must see. Reminds me of the motorcycle museum in Maggie Valley, only much more diverse. Saw the "kettenrad," a 1/2 track motorcycle - developed in Germany and used in WWII. It is still operational. What a sight! It is easy to get to. About 1/2 mile east of I-80 along rt. 11 North. Plus what a great day for a ride!
  16. Has anyone out there used this or know anything about it? I would like any and all info you can give me. Thanks http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=BA-7530-00
  17. I was in Auburn Ind. Sat. and went to the car museum.Iwill post a few pics. of the cars. The little silver car was at the motel where we were staying. The guy said it took 2 1/2 years to build, started life as a 1953 nash metropolitan,he did a great job.Hope you enjoy the pics.Jerry M.
  18. Ok, so last night I installed the washers in the carbs to increase the fuel mileage and reduce the gas smell at idle. Before the change the bike ran pretty good. I decided to install (2) #4 washers on each carb in replacement of the original plastic one. The bike fire right up and ran great for a couple of minutes and then it died. Restarted her and she will idle, but as soon as you give it throttle, she would die. I then recalled something about the fuel/air ratio settings so I checked each of the screws. They were all at different settings. One was 6 full turns out, one was 5 1/2, another at 8 and the fourth one was 4 1/2 turns out. I reset them all to 2 1/2 turns out like suggested and now she won't even idle. Where should I go from here?
  19. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=140326669122 I can't afford it but might get chance to take stab at it. What do you think of it and what do you think it will go for. Any way to find out what the reserve is? I am really in a bind now. Only transportation I have is bike and can't hold it up. If I scrape everything I got togather I may be able to make small attempt at this thing. I think it would last me a couple weeks. Wouldn't be any 1/2 assed insurance on this one. I KNOW IT IS A SAAB BUT I LIKE THEM..
  20. latest update on my trailer and a few questions. got my harbor freight trailer with 12" wheels. narrowed the frame to 18 1/2", and shortened it 3 1/2". i welded the frame together instead of bolting. the frame is at the sandblaster. i bought a neat plastic locking box at lowes and my cooler will go on the front. going to take one leaf out of the springs, and mount the axle on top of the springs to lower it. it should work out great and will look factory made. just ordered a hitch for my v-star 1300. so far i think the whole job less hitch will be about $350.00. now the questions, since i have never pulled a trailer. do i need safety chains? any worry pulling in the rain? will the hitch coupler tilt enough so it won't bind on the side stand or in the curves? what air pressure should i run in the 480 12 tires? any other conditions that i have to worry about. pics will follow when i get it done. bill
  21. I have shortened the center holes on the Leveling link to (converted Inch to MM) 169mm now I would like to shorten the holes distends to 165mm raze the rear about 1/2 inch do you think it will be safe or cone you see a problem Thanks
  22. Are quite the opposite when applied to lowering the front of a RSV. Thanks to all of you guys for the detailed directions about how to do this! I got the project completed and lowered the front, one inch. But, mathematically knowing better, I actually envisioned a one inch lowered seating. Big dumb mistake! No one had mmentioned that when lowering the front one inch that the seat would only be lowered by 1/2 inch. Lowering another 1/2 inch now would only give me about another 1/4 inch lower seat, and that's too much work to gain just a 1/4 inch. Guess I'll just add a 1/4 inch rubber sole on the cowboly boots! Ha. So, just remember that what ever amount that you lower the front, the seat will be only lowered about 1/2 that amount. (Guess everyone knows that but me!) Ride safely and watch out for those crazy cars! ___________________________________________________- I should of stood in bed!
  23. got some really good advice from you guys, went and bought a set of used roadking mufflers($40 with clamps, and put them on my bike, made brackets from 1/8 "x 1 1/2" steel and they sound great and were easy to put on.sounds great and looks stock:banana: thanks to the guys on this site
  24. I have noticed in the last week that my low oil pressure warning light is coming on from time to time. So far it only comes on when I approach the rev limiter in 2nd gear, it doesn't come on at high RPM's in 1st or 3rd gear. I have checked the oil and it was just below 1/2 in the sight glass, so I added enough oil to bring it to exactly 1/2. I went for a ride and it is still coming on at high RPM's in 2nd gear. Any ideas on why the light is coming on or if I should be worried by this?
  25. I had the dreaded wobble in the front end of my 84 VR and after talking with Skydoc and Lonestarmedic they instructed me on how to change the steering head washer without taking the fairing off and it worked like a charm.I just took it for a ride and it is nice and stiff with no wobble. It only took about an 1 1/2 hours to take it apart adjust the bearings and put the furber fix washer in and put it back together. Thanks again guys Venture Riders are the best. TOM
