  1. Here is the article from the Amarillo paper, bikes down, some riders injured others dead. A grim reminder to stay alert when traveling. James & Anita White have ridden the colorful stretch of highway west of Pueblo, Colo., dozens of times. Friday's trek should have been routine. But the trip ended tragically for the Amarillo couple when someone in their motorcyclist group struck an antelope, setting off a chain reaction that left Anita White and another man dead. The Colorado State Patrol said Jeffrey Parker, 51, of Amarillo, was the lead motorcycle in a pack of nine that was traveling north on Colorado 69 near Westcliffe about 5:30 p.m. Friday, when he hit an antelope. It was one of three that ran into the road and into the path of the cyclists. Parker was rushed to a Pueblo hospital, where he died. The Whites, who were sharing a bike, also were transported from the scene to a hospital. Anita White, 58, died Saturday. James White, 49, suffered injuries that were not life threatening. Jesse Wright, who was riding immediately behind Parker and two bikes ahead of the Whites, said he saw Parker go down after striking the animal. The Whites' bike slid after running through a pool of the animal's blood, then hitting dry pavement. "This was a freak accident," Wright said. All nine riders were from the Amarillo area and members of the Southern Monarchs Motorcycle Club. They were on their way to Buena Vista and Independence, Colo., for a weekend of camping, Wright said. On Tuesday, the answering machine at Southern Cycle, the Amarillo motorcycle shop the Whites co-own, said the business was shut down "until further notice" because of "a death in the family." The Whites had been married 31 years and had been riding motorcycles during all that time, often logging 10,000 to 13,000 miles a year on Harley-Davidson bikes, according to the club.
  2. Is there a way in taking a picture of the moon without the moon being white out as the one I took below
  3. If anyone is interested......i have 3 shirts left and 8 patches..... i have a green xl a brown xl and a white xxxl- (not sure how we ended up with this 3x white left over as i didnt order any extra ones in that size. Maybe someone got the wrong size at the rally??) $12 plus shipping I also have 8 patches left........$5 plus shipping. Let me know if anyone wants them I also have the stuff that needs to be mailed out ready to go to post office tomorrow so be watching for those soon.
  4. Yesterday I decided to run a dedicated ground up to the fairing and when I started taking the bolt out of the ground lug I found that it was corroded to the point that the nut was 'locked' in place. I had to pry it out and found the cavity was nearly full of that white corrosion 'stuff'. The really perplexing thing is that I installed that battery new less than a month ago. I cleaned, scraped and used a small file to clean all of the corrosion off the lug as well as the nut and reinstalled with everything coated with white lithium grease. The Question ?? Why would it corrode that quickly ??
  5. It was a beautiful last week on the parkway.I saw a White Venture and a white RSTD in Va.near Fancy Gap. What really shocked we were the amount of BMWs on the parkway last week.I usually see an inordinate amount of Goldwings and Ultra classic but it seemed every other bike was a BMW last week. Was there a rally or is everyone trading in their rides on a BMW?
  6. Took this last Sunday on the Cherahala Skyway,Then the rest of the day was a disaster. The red one fried the electrical system when we started to leave after this picture and I noticed I had a tire problem! We got home at midnight that night after calling family and 2-trailers to come haul us home. The white one had no problems and headed back to Knoxville when he thought we were ok. Oh well mine has new E-3s and the red one is still at Yamaha in Dalton, GA.
  7. My present carb settings on my 84: 1. Back to white spacer under circle clip on needles, but my gas mileage has suffered. Low to mid 40's. Used to be high 40's, low 50's at 65 mph. (Once got 55 mpg at 55 mph!-retired and why rush home?) My Venture is used almost exclusively 2 up. (We're not light weight people) Checked plugs in early spring they were very white (lean). But never got any knock. Still white now but less white than before. Thinking of going back to a few thousands less than stock white spacer (.010-.020 less?) 2. Pilot AIR jet #2 under carb diaphram. Filled in with 24 hr JB weld and redrilled out with a #53 drill bit. Was a guess and worked. It does have minor throttle response improvement. 3. Pilot screws: 1.75 turns out 4. Carbs synched several times. 5. Used to have a bad hesitation just off idle accelerating, now completely gone, with above settings, starts in warm weather with no choke. 6. Original carb diaphrams coated with dielectric (silicone) grease. If done every year or 2 they will never get holes!!! Do this on any rubber. 7. 3 Friends with 1300's. All are in low 40's on mpg. Dropped needles about .030-.050" depending on their preferences. 8. Why haven't you done my carb needle spacer change out? Better MPG, more HP (hotter spark), reduced operating cost and a "greener" (less carbon footprint) machine?

  9. Hey sleepy, you were asking about the product so here you go... Over the last few months I’ve been experimenting with a product and I find it helps tremendously to keep the white walls clean and looking white. It provides a coating and helps seal the rubber to prevent brake and road dust from embedding in the rubber. The product is “Inflatable Boat Protectant” and it’s made by Strico Products Limited. I’ve been using this product for over ten years on my Zodiac and its great stuff. It’s designed to protect the boat material from UV rays and subsequently the coating also makes the material much easer to clean. I thought of using this product on the tires one day after having worked so hard to clean them up. I did want time to test the product before I mentioned it on the forum, it’s been almost three months and 6000 miles and thus far I’m more then satisfied with the results. *Please note this is ‘not’ a cleaner. The product is designed for PVC and Hypalon and is also suitable for Vinyl and rubber. It’s a milky liquid that you apply with a ‘small’ (about 1 sq. inch) sponge or piece of paper towel. Although this product has a dry finish and does not wash off with water *Do not put any product on the part of the tire that comes in contact with the road. I put two coats on in the spring to test the product and another two coats when I washed the bike a month later and haven’t put any since. Just wipe it on and let it dry about 10 minutes between coats, two coats should do (more is not necessarily better). I won’t have to put any more on for a while now as it seems to hold up very well, even after washing. It will dry with a bit of a sheen (which I think looks good) but more importantly it makes cleanup MUCH easer and you won’t have to scrub so hard or as often to get the ww’s clean. I wipe mine with a little Vim and I’m done. It helps keep the white white and the black black, I also use it on some of the vinyl. Use what you want to clean up the tires there are a lot of products that work just fine. Just make sure that when you put this stuff on that the tire is clean and dry. You won’t have to be as aggressive with the cleaning after applying the Strico. Now for the bad news, this bottle has lasted me for a while, I’m not sure where you can get it or if it’s still even available. I’ll go back to where I got this bottle and see what I can find out, in the meantime if anyone else happens to know where it can be found please lets us know.
  10. Just to let everyone now, a friend of mine is selling his 1999 GoldWing trike and custom trailer. It has just over 50K miles and also has the easy steer. This Wing is white in color and it is in excellent condition. He is asking $22.5K for both pieces. The custom trailer is about a year old and looks like a small horse trailer. It is also white with a lot of chrome. It is very sharp. He has over $5K invested but would take $4K for trailer alone. I'll try to get a few pics and post it in the classified shortly. Anyone interested just shoot me a PM and I'll get pics and more info to you quickly.
  11. I bought a part from kncklhd 1 in White Plains, Maryland. They lost it. Anyone had any dealings with this E-Bay member? How do you loose a 40 lb part before you ship it? Got my money back but really wanted part.
  12. I have a 2000 MM. You all know what they look like. Mine has black wall tires. I am considering white wall tires. Does anyone with a 2000 MM run white wall tires? If so do you have any pictures of your MM with the white wall tire? Thanks for your input, Harry http://www.venturers.org/Photo_Gallery/data/615/medium/My_2000_MM_Venture_number_728_-5R.jpg
  13. This was written by a black gentleman in Texas . And is so funny. What a great sense of humor And creativity!!! When I was born, I was BLACK, When I grew up, I was BLACK, When I went in the sun, I stayed BLACK, When I got cold, I was BLACK, When I was scared, I was BLACK, When I was sick, I was BLACK, When I bruise, I'm still BLACK, And when I die, I'll still be BLACK. NOW, You 'white' folks.... When you're born, you're PINK, When you grow-up, you're WHITE, When you go in the sun, you get RED, When you're cold, you turn BLUE, When you're scared, you're YELLOW, When you get sick, you're GREEN, When you bruise, you turn PURPLE, And when you die, you look GRAY. So who y'all callin' COLORED folks?
  14. I just got off the phone with Gary from Dan't Yamaha and I will be takeing my Pearl White RSTD over to him next week for the Hannigan trike cinversion. I'm so excited I can't wait to see it when it's finished. Got to find a name for the new Pearl white trike. Open for suggestions.:happy65:
  15. Well, in a thread called "Putting Venture carbs on a 96RSTD" the discussion led to talk about what colors were offered for the various years of the Star. I did some searching and found out that there is a big difference between years both in how many colors and what colors were offered. So I was thinking if it would not be cool if we had pictures of every color offered for the stars in a folder on this site sorted out by manuf.year and type. So what do you guys think about this? I have already begun working on this and first of all I am gathering info on colors offered for each year. Alongside we can search for pictures and would be most fun to get them from members only - if possible. So what do you guys think? Should we give this a go? Freebird ! Can we somehow host this on the site? So if you play along and want to add some color just copy my list here below and fill in accordingly and repost. That way the list should little by little be filled in. And make comments on corrections if there are any wrong info. I am not far gone on this but I started with the 1996 to 1997 model and here is what I think was offered. Note that we are talking about the 1996 to 2001 Royal Star. Not the Venture and Royale Venture. The color info on them is listed on this site (This post was edited after Sleeperhawks post here below: 1996 model : New White / Mature Red Bluish White / Blue Metallic Yamaha Black Milky Brown / Yamaha Black Bluish White / Dark Blue Cocktail 1997 model: New White / Mature Red Elegant Brown / Black Shirobai White / Enticer Maroon Milky Brown / Urushi Black 1998 model: Cammellia Green / Ceramic White 1999 model: 2000 model: 2001 model: Black (no other color). So you guys and gals who know anything about the other models chip in and update the list. Little by little the list will grow and finally be completed. Any suggestions on doing this differently of cause welcome. So lets work together !!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Just got back from a six day trip to Mexico with a friend. For all my fellow Canuks, that white stuff on the ground is sand, not snow...LOL
  17. Okay guys, I know chrome and wide whites look great on Midnights, Black cherry, blue/black and Charcoal, but mine is the 04 White with the "bluish white cocktail". I hate the blue tint. I am gonna go for the street rod look. Already removed the emblems, the "eyebrows", the tank bib, and the stock chrome horn. Tape deck has been removed. RK mufflers. Moved the headset connector from the tank up to the handlebars under the radio. A painter owes me, I just need to remove body parts and strip the clear and stripes. My ideas at the moment are bright white, or Chevy Victory Red with Black accents to match my truck, or maybe Matte Black with Bright Red wheels and Rotors! Regardless, the dash will be Matte Black. Does anyone else have trouble with the white reflecting onto the windshield? I have the front rotor covers on my list. Will these be as hard to break the bolts loose as when I had to replace the rear rotor? Those I had to heat with a torch to break the loctite. I am looking for ideas to remove any other unnecessary chrome. Will fenders from a RSTD interchange? I would trade my fenders with mascot and standard chrome tips for fenders without holes! Will the RSTD tank interchange. Don't they have a "bulge" instead of the tank bib? I like that and would trade mine with factory rubber bib! Maybe one of you RSTD guys want the flat top tank for a mural!!!! Alright then, unload your cool ideas on me!
  18. Hey all, I'm just getting back from Iraq and wanted to get the scoot out for a spin and knock the cob webs out of the exhaust. Well, lets just say when I opened the garage door I was not happy with what I found. Seems my boy decided to spray paint his dirt bike while I was gone. He took a can of white spray paint and commenced to spraying without taking any precaution to my bike sitting beside it. Needless to say, My bike has little specks of white all over it. The seats, the chrome, the bags....OH BOY......I'm really not happy with him. So instead of riding, I'm trying to find away to rub the white dots out without ruining the paint. Do any of you on this wonderfull site have any suggestions. Jim:bang head:
  19. Hi, On my 86 VR, the CLASS white plug connector appears to have a problem. When I turn the ignition with inserted key to ACC, the CLASS monitor will come on, light up w/the normal wording, and then display only the "PSI" lettering in the upper right corner. I may or may not get an error message; however, I am unable to adjust the air pressure. Then, if I open the CLASS door panel and push and/or press on the CLASS white plug connector, the monitor will continue to reactivate and finally stay connected long enough to allow me to adjust the front and rear air pressure. Do you think the problem is in the white plug itself or does the circuit board connectors that the white plug connects to need to be resoldered? I hate to talk bad about my 86 VR; however, as advanced as this bike was in 1986, you would think Yamaha would have come up with a better CLASS electronic connectivity design. It seems kinda cheap compared to the rest of the bike. Don't mean to upset anyone, just my opinion. Anyway, let me know your thoughts and past experiences concerning this question. Thank you, Allen Dallas, Texas
  20. Hi , I'm trying to shorten and add a right angle connect to an exiting 3.5 stereo audio cable. The cable has a yellow and white wire wrapped in copper wire. I believe the copper is for shielding (please correct me if I'm wrong). Does it matter which post yellow or white goes to. I've made up a connector with the white going to the left post and yellow going right, I've got continuity between the top pin to top pin of each connector and again continuity from middle section to middle section of each pin. I seem to be getting stereo sound from left and right speakers. My problem is there is a continuous whine in the background with or with out music playing that is not there if I use a unmodified cable. I thought maybe some of the shielding copper wire strands was touching one or both posts so I cleaned them up. But the whine is still there. What am I missing?????? :bang head::bang head:
  21. On my dash headlght warning lamp (the white one) is always on the headlight bulb is fine. Is this supposed to be on all the time or does it indicate a problem? What do I need to look for to fix it? Thanks Jim.
  22. I was coming home W/B on 17 in the pouring rain a couple of hours ago (5 ish?) and passed a White RSV and a couple of other bikes in a pack (maybe an Ultra classic, a BMW, and a Honda or something similar??). Didn't look like there was any trunk rack on the RSV. Was it anyone here?
  23. I pulled my radiator overflow tank and pulled the 3 white wire connection apart... I ohmed it out to each other... nothing... I started the bike had black wire to neg side of batery and red probe to all 3 wires (1 at a time) and I got no Voltage... Am I doing something wrong? or did my stator wires some how become disconnected? Does the white plug have to be connected to produce voltage? I'm thinking the Dealer did something to this when I had my Shock Replaced, Cruise & Fuel gauge fixed under warranty. Of course my warranty is run out now and the work was done in March and I haven't done any long trips and have been putting on a tender every night... I kinda knew something was up a while ago when a few times I got a weak crank. Any suggestions??
  24. I've searched with no luck for the Venturerider.org business card template. I have the solid black one but I had another one that had a white background. Can someone point me towards the place to download the white back grounded one ? Thanks Keith
  25. Curious where the best place to pick up a tire would be. I believe there is many that order the tires on line and have them shipped to you door. I was looking for a rear tire for the 1999 but I would like white walls. Any suggestion on a brand. The Dunlop 404 was the one that I had a problem with, not saying I would not purchase another. Brad
