  1. There have been a bunch of threads lately as to the best headlight for our bikes. Those that have the SilverStar Ultra feel it is the best, those with HID feel it is the best, most of us feel that whatever we have is the best. What I would like for some of us to try to accomplish, is a side by side by side by...... comparison of the different headlights available to us. There would be a Silver Star, Silver Star ultra, PIAA, And several different brands of HID, with maybe a stock thrown in for fun. The test could be held at a MD or possibly even a M&E that ran late enough. Before the test every one would need to make sure that all of the lights are aimed to the same point. The bikes would have to be lined up across a dark road and each take turns turning on their head light. It would have to be judged by everyone as to best illumination in both hi and low beam, beam patterns and even by someone a few hundred yards down the road looking back to see which was most visible and or was blinding oncoming drivers. That person down the road may even have a photographic light meter to get some actual non-subjective data. This way it will be as scientific as possible. Well at least as scientific as we can be that late in the day. What else needs to be added to this and how can we pull this off? This thread is not for the "I like what I have posts" but to try to determine what really works without 1 person having to go out and buy all of the systems to test.
  2. got my 14 on ebay. listing no. is 230495367713 low reserve if you really want to feel young again.
  3. Measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale at 1:41pm. Ive been hearing reports of buildings shaking and being evacuated. Apparently it was felt as far as Boston. Did anyone feel it?
  4. All, This was my first MD get together. I have to say, this group of folks have to be the nicest bunch I've met in a long time. People would ask if they could help while I was doing some routine maint on my bike... "can I hold that for you ?, need a hand ?", mostly without asking. I'm sorry, I don't remember members names much, but you know who you are... Thanks for the help and going out of your way a new member feel like he's part of the group. John
  5. I really hate to cancel the Maintenance Day but due to a couple of circumstances I feel the need to do so. I'm kind of mechanically inclined but not enough to be the oversee this event. Others who were planning to help aren't certain they can make it so I feel it is best to call it off early instead of waiting until a week or so before the event and having to make the call. If one of our members wants to step up to the plate and take over I'm more than willing to let this group use my four garage stalls for that day. Another small factor I switched over and am riding a Goldwing trike. I found a great deal on an 02 and my goal is for my wife to ride with me. Again, I apologize from the bottom of my heart for you who were planning to come. I had good intentions when I scheduled this event. My humble apologies, Mark
  6. Maintenance Day is ALMOST over. Everybody is gone now except for Rick and Linda Butler and they are leaving early Monday morning. I just want to say a couple of things and I'll try to keep it short. I LOVE the jacket and will cherish it forever. I was somewhat at a loss for words and to be honest, a bit embarrassed about finding myself a little choked up. If I COULD have talked, I would have said this. I want you all to know that what I feel about all of you and what this organization is NOT any pride that I have accomplished something beyond my biggest dream. I feel no arrogance, no conceit, no feeling that I am anybody special. What I feel is truly honored that you have made me a part of your lives. I am honored that so many of you have chosen to be a part of this group and very humbled that you all take the time to participate whether it be by attending this event or any of our others, by your participation here, however you choose to be a part of VentureRiders. I don't feel that I am doing anything special for YOU.....I feel that YOU are doing something special for ME by being a part of something much larger than myself. I wish I could better express in words how I feel about all of you but just know that you are a special and very important part of my life and I thank you for that. Now...I'll say it again. If you have never taken the time to attend a VentureRider event, whether it be my Maintenance Day, our International Rally or any of the other rallies, meet and eats, etc....you just absolutely do NOT know what you are missing. Please take the time to do so whenever you can. As for Maintenance Day...this one is now over but we are already thinking about, planning for and looking forward to Maintenance Day 2011. I'll post a date as soon as I can and hope that many more of you can work it into your schedules. Not sure what the count was this year. I know that I received one report that they counted 152 bikes and there is seldom ever a time when some are not out riding for one reason or another. I know that there were more than 200 people. Now I've told Eileen that I think we are about at the maximum that will show up. So..............let's shoot for at least 250 next year...but ... uh.....shhhhhhhhhhhh.....she might here me.
  7. wednesday i traded my beloved 86 venture for a 2000 v-star.. (straight up) the 86 was just to heavy for me now that i have lost 240 pounds( and muscle).. the v-star is nothing like my venture.. nooo sirr eeee.. but i sure feel safer cause i can reach the ground and handle it better.. both bikes had 24000 miles..
  8. Very frustrated now. Stock seat hurts. Corbin is not much better. Now the Butler mod makes no difference to the pain in my tail bone. Quite frankly I feel like giving up and selling this bike again. A lot of money spent and I can't do much riding!!
  9. I bought this Olympus C-4000 digital camera Sat at a garage sale for $1.00. I mounted it on the bike this morning for my ride to Tulsa to have some breakfast with my Sr. Homies, just to get a feel how it was going to work. Do you think I got my dollars worth? http://www.photoshow.com/watch/Wa7Ft3Cu Phill
  10. I went back to stock exhaust, unfortunatley one of the muffler gaskets is leaking and I have a trip coming up and might not have time to get a replacement shipped. my question is: I cant hear the leak but I can feel it. will i damage anything by riding anyway. thanks for the help
  11. So from reading other clutch threads it seems you can just double up the clutch spring and get a better feel. I've been thinking about the PWC clutch kit, but concerned that several people have complained about the change in friction point on the clutch lever. Does doubling up the stock spring do that also? And if not, does anyone that upgraded to the PWC have a stock spring they want to get ride of. Also instead of the PWC kit, can one just get the PWC heavier spring, I read someone here didn't like the feel of the kit and just used the spring, but I can't see paying for the whole kit if I just need the spring.
  12. Has anyone ever rode a Suzuki C90T? I like the way they look just wonder how they feel? Any opinions out there?
  13. Well, do ya? http://www.flixxy.com/lucky-day.htm
  14. Meeting at Pioneer motorsports at noon tomorrow (Rt.16 in Yorkshire..across from Earls restaurant)....thats Sunday the 16th...anyone wishing to ride with us, feel free to join in the fun.....see you tomorrow.......
  15. Well its been just over a week since I sent out my seats to Mr Butler and they finally arrived today, now if I could just get out of work, cough cough lol. Just cant wait to get them mounted tonight and take her for a spin. Had a question for the guys who have had the mod done, is the difference something you feel right away or am I gonna need a long cruise to really feel the difference? I ride about 65 miles one way to work everyday and not that the seat is uncomfortable but would love it to be more comfortable. Please let me know your input and thanks in advance!!
  16. ok, i have floor boards and highway boards.....just bought the 86 royal, (first full dresser) former cruiser styles....wanted to test the waters on an older bike first....found a very well kept up and beautiful one.................with the heal toe shifter, brake and boards, i find myself not being able to brake as fast as i like because of my own coordination......boards sit up high and lifting my toes to the brake is not a natural feel to me at all. they look great and r great under ur feet, just thinking of my comfort and safety. anyone else feel this way? anyway to put forward controls on or lower the boards and controls? if not.....what do i need to put stock pegs and controls back on? does anyone have some and want to throw in some cash for these boards? any info anyone has would be a huge help......

    Want to share this

I have a daughter that is 16, and forgot more than I will ever will know, we ll know that story. So I want to take her on some road trips with me this summer, ask her ride down the street with me and that way you can get a feel of it, she agree and she never been on a bike in her life, so I left the driveway went 1/4 to the stop sign, never got out of 2nd gear she scream slow down all the way then I made right turn hoping the feel would come to her, Nope 1/2 mile she was still scared again never got out of 3rd gear, went back home and she said never again, so her friend that has ridden got on we came back and she said that is the nicest seat and bike I ever been on. Look at my daughter and said I will text you while we ride and tell you what all you are missing.. Brittany shook her head and walk off...It was all in fun but I did learn she ain't gonna be riding wirth me....
  18. I took Blu out for a couple hours today and i almost feel human again. I was down to the last fuel bar and still had enough seafoam to cause a let of very smelly smoke. It took a bit to warm up but once it ran a bit, I took to the road. I rode it to the station and filled up. there was just a bit of flutter taking off but after a few min on the interstate, everything smoothed out and she was silk again. I had not ridden it since I had trouble with height and almost dumped it at a stop sign. After Yammer Dan and others helped me through the settings, I got a mud wasp nest out of the shock area and I could flat foot her. I decided to go play in the slow traffic and get used to it. I was amazed that I never had to put my feet down until I was totally stopped. She balanced very well even going really slow. I tried some tight turns. It was no effort to pull into a parking space in an empty lot pull through the spot and u back into the third spot with no problem. As much as I would like a RSV, I hope the guy does not come up with the money this weekend. Thanks for the help guys!
  19. I just picked up a 2000 RSV and front and rear suspension feel very stiff. I was just courious what others are running for pressures.
  20. Hi guys, I just finished watching the Ride like a Pro DVD (soon to watch the Deal's Gap DVD =) And yeah, interesting concepts and a lot of what I already know but to watch them do it, the verbal reinforcement helps as well.. "However".. They're using lower centre of gravity Harleys with better low end grunt on them which must make it much easier to do the dips and turns etc. The ONE issue I have with my bike when doing the advance maneuvers is that I honestly feel the bike will fold up on itself with the steering locked in tight and causing the bike to drop.. Though they say "rear brake and power" will stand the bike up, I always feel like it's going to force the forks over hard and lock it up causing the fall.. you know what I mean? Then I see in their video later on where they say "these techniques work for all kinds of bikes" and show the various bike.. Yeah, nice Harleys, dipping down deep scrapping their boards blah blah.. then a Goldwing.. then a Valkyrie and then.. A 2nd Gen Venture dipping down hard and over negotiating a proper dip and turn.. HUH! My bike is tuned up properly.. Lowering links, risers, even pressure in the forks, good shock in the rear and newish tires, proper inflation but yet when I do those turns, I really feel like I'm going to lock it up to the inside of the turn and drop the bike.. I know it would be hard to point out what's what without seeing or being there, what's the trick with our type of bike? A month or so before we can get our bikes out around here.. I really want to hone up the skills for this season.. I can do all those exercises on a VStar, but still struggling with the sharper turns on the Venture.. (paraphrasing a quote from the video: After 20 years of riding a motorcycle, I thought I had 20 years of experience riding a motorcycle but in reality all I had was one year of riding experience repeated 20 times, doing the same mistakes over and over again, until I learned how to ride a motorcycle properly.. ) Makes sense..
  21. I installed a 165-80-15 Nexen SB-802 on my TD yesterday and I went out and rode about 250 miles on it just to get a feel for it. I must say that I love it!! I'll gladly answer and questions. I posted the info on the DS tire data base.
  22. As I have mentioned earlier, I am going thru a lifestyle change. On Nov 19, I weighed 242 pounds and this morning I weighed 207. In another 35 pounds I will weigh about what I will be comfortable with, even though it will still be above the gov/insurance recommendations. The best part is the change in my diabetes control. My A1C was about 11 then and now it is 6.6, which means I had an average sugar level between 250 and 300 and now it is much closer to 100. I have now dropped my insulin from 46 units a night to 15 while working with a doctor. The most amazing part about this is how easy it has been. The biggest change is simply stop eating all the sweet junk I was eating, and now I don't crave them at all. To be diabetic, I was really abusing myself with what I was eating and drinking. I am still eating about anything I want and really don't think of being on a diet, as I am not. Just eating slower, chewing my food and eating smaller portions. The key to eating smaller portions is to eat slow enough to get food into your system rather than eat faster and stuff yourself and still be hungry. It is also about how much better I feel when I finish a meal and not feel stuffed and have a bunch of indigestion. The main reason I am bringing this up is I want to encourage other's to consider what I am doing. I don't suggest going thru a divorce as I am doing to get you to start thinking about yourself, but in my case it has been a real refocus of my personal needs. I also want to encourage others that are type II diabetic or going to be to consider what you are doing to yourself. Diabetes has a bunch of related problems that comes with it. RandyA
  23. Leaving for the hospital. Our oldest granddaughter is in labor with her first child. This will be our 2nd great granchild...another boy. She went into labor at 2 am. Will keep you posted. Pat and Don PS. It makes us feel so old!!!
  24. ......... made you a better driver? After changing jobs last year and having my commute time doubled and having to cross the city each day I feel I'm more aware of traffic around me and try my best to be as courteous a driver as I can be. Paul
  25. Got off at 3PM today and ran home to go for a ride. Hit 40 today with the sun shining. The DC is finally seeing a little bit of a warm up. I only went out for an hour but boy did it feel good. Lots of salt and sand on the roads, at least along the sides so taking it easy is required in the turns but at least I was riding. Oh yeah, did I mention I got to ride today.
