  1. Can anyone tell me how a Travelcade compares to the stock seat or any other as far as height and forward position? I only 5'9" so I expected it to be a little taller than my cruiser, but it feels like I'm too close to the tank and even with the highway pegs my legs aren't stretched out. before I start cutting on the seat I thought I'd ask.
  2. The 2007 RSV chromed metal emblems seem to be glued onto the tank. I want to remove them from one tank and install (glue?) onto another without any damage to either tanks or emblems. Anyone do this and/or anyone know what is best technique?

    84 Venture fuel tank

Anyone out there know where I can obtain a good USED or new gas tank for my 84? Cheap gas has rusted it out again. Tank is off and thought I'd try to repair it but think I'm just asking for future trouble..... Any ideas?
  4. I have a 2005 RSV and it was sunny and some what warm yesterday while I was changing my brakes. So I thought I would put the battery in and go for a ride. I had it all winterized well you know the carbs were draind and the battery was takin out. So all went well at first at least while I was ridding. But then when I shut it down @ my mom's and then restarted it up. Then when I started to take off it stalled twice. It was almost like taking off in second but it was in first. But then after I had it out on the road it started to take off better. I did notice the gas tank was almost full but not all the way could condenstate have collected in it. I did change plugs to NGK Iredieum. Sorry about the spelling I tryed to gap them @ .035 But I broke the center conducter on one and had to replace it. So I just left them all alone and installed them the way they came @ about .032. It seems to run alright now thats why I thought it might be moister in the tank. Just thought mabe one of you guys might have had this happen before Thanks for any thoughts. Quicksilver
  5. My 99 has been a jewel for the last 5 years I've owned it. However I recently went a whole 6 weeks without running it(I know, thats inexcusable for some who lives in Florida). Now I have a problem with a rough idle(sounds like Harley) and stalling. Runs fine however under power. I assume I've got gunk/crap in the idle circuit of the carbs. My dealer suggested Ring Free in the tank. I put some in and I'm gonna run the tank out this Sunday and see what happens.Anyone else ever had this problem? BTW I've been an auto mechanic for 35 years and have always HATED working on Japaneese carbs--very small jets and passages and overly complicated.

JUst came to mind, on a battalion ex in wainwright, and our sgtmajor was just out of the airbourn, (witt) and and we HQ were enamey force for the bat. and we had to set up a new biv. area and had the anti tank pl. as senturies, and we were just setting up camp, and 2 of the anti tank boys where in there 3/4 ton warming up and sgtmjr witt was just checking things out, and the guys seen him comming and new who was comming cause it looked just like a bull dog comming across the snow, and they didn't get out to challange him, well in short he had ripped the door right off the truck to have his chat with them....
  7. I was wondering what was under the tank bib and if it had any real significance or if it was just decoration? I didn't want to pull it off if it covered anything up. Anyone have a picture of what it looks like under the bib? Not really thrilled with the look. I would prefer a clean top to the fuel tank.
  8. Greetings, I was just wondering for storing the bike over winter is it better to have the gas tank full or pretty close to empty. Mine just has 2 bars showing on the guage right now. I was thinking about that gas just sitting there for 2 to 3 months. If it was better to start the season with a fresh tank. Or does it make a difference. Thank you. bossman
  9. I left My House early AM yesterday, with a little over a half tank of fuel, took the gal a few to run right and a bit to get her started, but she cleared up in a few minutes and went on. Now like i said I was going on a ride , and my ride was taking me to Urbanna Virginia, for a PGR mission. well that half a tank of gas didnt last no time at all, all in all about 47 miles. and since it was dark out and the sun coming up, i was holding back on the right hand , and not seeing just how cold i could make myself feel. The choke was off , and even after stopping her for a half hour rest stop i didnt need the choke to start her. no black smoke out the back.... so can i figure on her using lots of go juice on cold days, or should i have her looked at.
  10. OK just because I'm a bit thick at times and this is one of those times, just what is happening with the tank when you vent the filler neck ? A cross section of the tank just might explain this to me but I can't find one. I like pictures.... Curious minds want to know..........
  11. Help!! I have an 84 Standard. I was having problems with the gas gauge , It would read full and I"d drive 30 miles and I would have less than 1/2 tank. The mechanic I go to told me it was the sending unit in the tank. I pulled it out and used a new gasket to seal it up. Wrong leaked. Took it apart and tried again. Leaked. Stopped by the local shop, Yamaha #4. Leaks. Hand cut a cork material. Leaks! Any thoughts on what will seal this up???Joe
  12. Ok - next projects. I need to chase down 2 electrical items. One looks straight forward. I have a bad connection between the fuse panel and the gauge cluster. Wiggle the fusebox and the computer monitor and the tach. go in and out. Number 2 is a parasitic drain on the battery. I charged the new battery on a slow charge. Checked the status and all good. I then turned off the bike and didn't do anything except turn it on to accessory 4 times in 2 days long enough to check the PSI in the front shocks. Maybe 30 seconds each time. Today I had to give her a boost. Last on my list looks to be cleaning the gas tank. Turned from reserve to on the other day. After jumping today, cranked several times with no vroom. Turned the tank to reserve and she fired up after 3 stabs of the starter. J. B.
  13. I'm looking for a set tank badge for my RSV 2004 ,anybody here have an extra set or want to sale his ????????????
  14. I took the gas tank off today to change the plugs and noticed that there was oil caked onto the rubber stacks that run from the carbs up to the plastic boxes just under the gas tank. The oil is only on the stacks on the one side (left side) and not the other. Any ideas how to fix this?
  15. :080402gudl_prv:My new aux gas tank, it holds 3.5 gls. On the kick stand all I can get in it is 3 gls. I get 37.6 mpg. around town. Hwy I get 40 mpg. I got 113.5 miles with 3 more gls. That is a total of 260 miles per fillup. I use the 3 gl. first then swith over to the main tank. The main tank is turned off till I need it. this is done with out stopping. When the 3gls, is running out I flap the main tank on. 260 miles around town or 280 on hwy on 7gls, of gas. I still have my reserve gas of one gls. in the main tank for 37. 6 miles or hwy at 40 miles. I now can go 320 miles befour I run out. The aux tank can be tanken off or on in less then 5 mins. I do like stoping a lot but not for gas. I know youall like picture so here is some.:cool10:
  16. My girlfriend dropped a whole can of Seafoam into her 750 Ace (3.7 gallon tank) which probably only had 1 gallon of gas in it (just guestimating as she knows it was not full and could still see some gas). Anyway, she started it up, it ran for a while, then stopped. She couldn't get it started again. Am going to go over tomorrow and maybe drain her tank into a gas can then fill up the tank and start over again.... Question is, if there is so little gas that is diluting the whole can of Seafoam, could she have done any damage? Do I just need to fill up the tank, shake it up a bit and try to crank it up again? Thanks, Jeff
  17. While I sure hope I have at least another 60 days of riding, at some point I must face the inevitable. This will be my first winter with my 07 RSV. With other bikes in the past I have done everything from gas stabalizer, to battery removal. I have left petcock on, I have turned it off. I have filled the tank and I have emptied the tank. I have also done nothing. Now I have a bike I want to make absolute certain lives for 100k+ miles. What do other Northerners do with their RSV iover the winter?

    Tank Bib

Is the gas tank on a 07 RSV and RSTD the same? I found a tank bib that fits a RSV and was curious if it would fit my RSTD.
  19. Traded wife’s RSV and purchased smaller touring cruiser for her. Got a decent trade in price and told the dealer OK if I can take some of the accessories off. Planning on putting the items on Ebay but figured I would give my Venture riders first shot at these listed accessories below. All items are in great shape and prices do not included shipping cost. All items will also be listed in classified ads with picture. Thinking of removing Passing Lamps and selling for $150.00; if anyone is interested let me know. 20. Well, I got the bug last night and went out and tore into the bike. I finally did some things that I had been threatening to do for a while. 1) Re-routed the MP3 cable into the fairing. 2) Relocated the com cable to the left side of the handlebars 3) Changed the sparkplugs 4) Removed the CD changer cable 5) Cut down the windshield 6) Removed tank emblems 7) Removed front fairing chrome "eyelashes" 8) Installed custom tank bag I want to thank all the people that have posted ideas and help with all the items above. Everything that I read really helped and without it I would not have been able to do half of what I did. Thanks. I will post some pics when I get it all back together.
  21. i walked into a local auto parts store and there it is, a display stand wth Sea-Foam products. he said he has been selling at his shop for 15 years. if anyone is interested pm me and i will pass on the address. when i was down in the USA visiting Bongobob recently, i bought two cans of the stuff because i had not found a distributer here, and this guy is almost in my backyard. the stuff does work, i had a hesitation around 2500 rpm, poured in half a can on a full tank, ran it through and the problem seems to have gone. next tank i am going to put the other half can in. cheers, Scott
  22. OK, I suffered through a tank of gas without using 5th gear in the name of science. NO reason to ever do it again. Many of us know that the overall gear ratio in 4th gear on an RSV is identical to the overall gear ratio in 5th on a 1st gen. Also, many 1st gen owners continue to insist that their bikes routinely get better gas mileage than the 2nd gen. So out of curiosity, I just burned a full tank in my 05 RSV without hardly using 5th gear at all. Saturday I did a PGR mission up in Oklahoma a bit over 100 miles from here. I filled up just before heading home and kept it in 4th the whole way, averaging 75 - 80 MPH. Then I added one 40 mile round trip to work before I filled up. Result? I got a measly 32 MPG on that tank of gas, where I usually get 36 under the same conditions. Conclusion? The difference, if there really is one, has to be due to the overall weight of the bike and the wind resistance. It is also very evident that the overdrive gear on the RSV does give you better gas mileage when hitting the super-slab. Goose
  23. Well I finally did it, I pulled the 1973 Kawasaki 125cc out of my mother in laws shed where it has been for the last 20 - 25 years. It is a mess but I figured I will start with the obvious and go from there. The gas tank is coated in rust on the inside and I am looking for feed back from you guys about the pros and cons of the diffrent methods. I have seen several ways of doing this including Freebirds post on Kleen. I figure either way I go I will be putting washers, chains or some other metal in there with a good spin to loosen up all the surface rust and break loose all I can before going with the chemical cleaners. Someone suggested tieing the tank in a blanket with washers in it and putting it in the dryer on NO heat for some time to get it all knocked loose. What are your thoughs on the following methods: 1. Navel Jelly 2. Kleen 3. Electrolosis If you have another idea I am all ears. I want to know which method you think is best and more importantly in my case idiot proof.
  24. Just refilled my old 83 with gas and upon returning home to garage discovered gas leak. It is a 'pressure' gas leak that goes away when bike is turned off. The bike starts up and runs great but once started gas leaks out below just forward of fuel pump. I checked the pump and hoses and it appears to be coming from up in the upper area of bike around gas tank and carb area. I sure hope the plastic gas tank hasn't cracked, (or) it could be a hose problem. I can't figure out how to check where the output of the fuel pump joins the engine. Anyone else ever have this problem? Just a bit too unsafe to ride to shop, if I can't resolve it, may have to call for a tow..gas hitting those hot mufflers is too risky. Thanks James
  25. I have bought some Sea Foam and am not quite sure whether I should just pour some into the gas tank or if I also need to pour some into the carburetor. I think the carbs are what need the cleaning the most which would be taken care of by the Sea Foam in the gas tank. However, given that my plugs were black, it may also be a good idea to clean up the valves with it. If you have used Sea Foam, how have you used it to get good results? Thanks for your input. If you put some in the carbs did you pour it in directly while the engine was running or did you use the vacuum lines?
