  1. Many thanks to Freebird and out telephone conversation the other day. I managed to find the wire set on ebay (that had been mentioned on this website in the past) and was able to order a set. Hopefully this will solve my 1989 miss on one cylinder as I probably fouled a plug and needed to change plugs. So, will change all wires and plugs and see what happens. Once again, thanks for all your help Freebird.
  2. I am curious if anyone knows whether you can change out the rear final drive (on an 83-85) with the newer 86 and up pumpkin and drive shaft together? I know the 83-85 has separate drive shaft and final drive so one would have to change out the complete assembly, but if that is possible and it bolts up to the 83-85 swingarm (plus the yoke spine) and matches the rear wheel spline, then it could very well be possible. I need someone who has checked this option out. Louie
  3. Winter looks like it may be getting longer. A little long but worth a look. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOLkze-9GcI]YouTube - Climate Change - Is CO2 the cause? - Pt 1 of 4[/ame] Kelly
  4. Ok here it goes i am looking at getting a stebel natulis horn for my rsv. Any suggestion on where the best price might be?? Also has anyone had any problems with one? Also the barrons lowering kit ...does it change the handleing at all good or bad, at 5'7" i could use about an inch closer to the ground and dont want to mod the seat cause its really comfy...
  5. I am kind of new to the motorcycle scene. I have worked with cars since I was a kid. I purchased a totaly perfect '86 Venture last summer. As I use it regular I desided to change plugs and oil over the christmas break. Then wile out riding last week it started to back fire when I get off the gas and some times when I am warming it up it will pop slightly. Have I got a plug loose.... what a bear to change plugs on..... ? Have I disturbed something...... a carb rubber? The local shops just shake thier heads and say live with it or scrap it. any recommendations from other riders would be helpful Kevin Victoria BC Canada
  6. I have a 2005 RSV and it was sunny and some what warm yesterday while I was changing my brakes. So I thought I would put the battery in and go for a ride. I had it all winterized well you know the carbs were draind and the battery was takin out. So all went well at first at least while I was ridding. But then when I shut it down @ my mom's and then restarted it up. Then when I started to take off it stalled twice. It was almost like taking off in second but it was in first. But then after I had it out on the road it started to take off better. I did notice the gas tank was almost full but not all the way could condenstate have collected in it. I did change plugs to NGK Iredieum. Sorry about the spelling I tryed to gap them @ .035 But I broke the center conducter on one and had to replace it. So I just left them all alone and installed them the way they came @ about .032. It seems to run alright now thats why I thought it might be moister in the tank. Just thought mabe one of you guys might have had this happen before Thanks for any thoughts. Quicksilver
  7. just bought a new venture and want to change the windshield to a shorter one. any tips on right way to get the old one off?
  8. hi all could anyone tell me at what milage should you change the u-joint on my '99 rsv? i have over 42,000 miles on mine, it seamed ok when i pulled the rear end, driveshaft and swingarm off and greased everything a couple of months ago. fixen to put about 2,ooo miles on it next weekend and will to going to the international rally in july. just rather change it now than on the side of the road. thanks in advance don
  9. While I am somewhat set in my ways when it comes to my preferences in music and singers (If it ain't Willie or Joan, well then it ain't s...), but I think I am eclectic enough to at least listen to other music so that I can somewhat talk about it intelligently. However, I have been listening to alternative radio here recently, and it makes me wonder, "What happened to the music?" Now maybe I just don't understand, or I'm to old to really appreciate someone screaming "Hey look.. I've got a band" 17 times in a row while accompanied by a four cord change rip. But..... is this really music. Heck, even a very young Bob Dillon (who, in my opinion was a genius lyricist, but should never have sung any of his songs) would be preferable to what they are trying to pass off as music today.
  10. I'm looking out the window at the snow falling and am happy as heck that I got out on my bike yesterday. Weather was clear and in the high 40's. Here in the Mid-West, the weather can and will change overnight so when these opportunities come up I take full advantage of it.
  11. Over the Christmas break I will be starting up the wood stove in the garage and changing the coolant in my 2nd gen. Venture. I have not done this service before. I guess I will follow the service manuals guide lines. Is there anything to watch out for or should do or not do? I will also change the plugs which I have done before. I am close to 40,000 miles on the bike. I did the splines this past summer when I changed the rear tire. Any in put?
  12. well decided to change both tires , How hard is it to remove tires of the rims .I want to take them of and change them myself and have them balanced at my repair shop.Any special tools needed .
  13. I was just sittin' here reading what some others had posted regarding the way people look, young versus old, and aliens versus those who have been here a while. It seams to me that we have been dealing with those problems since this country was first settled at Jamestown, VA. The older generation has always been inventing new stuff that made life both better and and more difficult for the younger generation. We often did'nt like the way they looked or dressed, hell we didn't even like the music they listened too. Now some of it has become classic. My dad (now gone) could not stand men with long hair or mustaches, now it is the fashion. Well, things change and we have to change with them and learn. When we came back from Viet Nam, we were not welcomed home and were harassed. Now when the troups come home they are heroes, and they are. But we are not taking care of them, just like before. We see, kids with spikey hair, illegal immigrants, different religions that we have known about but never met their believers before. A black man running for president, that is credible candidate. Wow, things are changing and staying they same all the time. These people and things I mentioned earlier are our furture and we should embrace it. We don't know where it will go, but go it must. Ain't it wonderful. Please think about the people I mentioned earlier, it is not what they look like, or where they came from that is important; it is what they will do with their lives that will be important. It is our responsibility to help them develope in their own way that is important. We must open our hearts and minds and accept them and their ideas. As I am sure our parents and grand parents accepted us. See these changes as opportunity. I am not sure what caused me to write this. I hope after you have read it, you will think too. Maybe it is just because tomorrow is kind of a big and anxious day for me. After I get home late tomorrow it will be interesting to see what some of you have to say. I hope I did not ramble too much.
  14. Has anyone here had their RSV repainted just for the heck of it? I've never cared much for the solid white but I couldn't pass up the deal I got on it. I was seriously considering selling the 04 and buying an 08 just for the color but the 08 looks just like the 04, with the color difference of course. Anyone ever do this, were you happy with the change and was it overly expensive?
  15. I'm over do for an oil change. Our ATV's are single cylinder liquid cooled Yamaha 400 and 450 engines. These are the 4x4 Kodiak models and used mostly for hunting rugged terrain and slow manuevers. Our average speed might be 5 to 10 mph tops. We are over do for our first oil change. The service manual says first one do at 200 miles or 20 hours. Our atv's have about 350 miles each on them. I noticed the service manual says change oil at 200,750,1500, and every 1500 after that. Do I need to wait a while before switching to synthetic? It's not like we can break the motor in with 10K first. We average about 125 miles a year. My thoughts are extreme temperature variations. 0 degrees playing in snow in the winter to 100 in summer. Slow speed depends mostly on the liquid cooling with less air flow.I have noticed the electric fans kick on often. I'm going to be using Rotella oil with super tech oil filters. Just wondering if I should wait a while before upgrading to synthetic?
  16. TODAY WAS MY FIRST RIDE ON THE NEW AVONS I WENT TO THE SMALLER FRONT AND ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW! YOU GUYS WERE NOT KIDDING THE CHANGE IS AMAZING. SO FOR ANYONE STILL ON OEM TIRES THIS IS THE BEST CHANGE I HAVE MADE YET. THANKS FOR THE INPUT ON MY TIRE PURCHASE. THIS PLACE IS THE GREATEST!
  17. Just did the first oil change on a 87 Venture Royale that I bought this summer. I put the new filter on and in the process of cleaning up the oil drain pan afterward, found a compression spring on the bottom. Duh! No mention of the spring in the user manual or the service manual but I did find it in the parts manual that is posted elsewhere on this site. The oil filter cover is tight and doesn't leak after starting and runup, so my question is will the absence of the spring in the filter cover impede the flow of the oil through the bypasss valve assembly? Being somewhat lazy, if I don't have to drain the oil and start all over, I'm just as inclined to wait until the next oil change. Any thoughts? Thanks Ron
  18. Let me know what you guys think about the website. Is there something I could change? Make something better? Please let me know. http://lifesavertcb.com Regards Zach

If I leave here tomorrow Would you still remember me? For I must be travelling on, now, 'Cause there's too many places I've got to see. But, if I stayed here with you, girl, Things just couldn't be the same. 'Cause I'm as free as a bird now, And this bird you can not change. Lord knows, I can't change. Bye, bye, its been a sweet love. Though this feeling I can't change. But please don't take it badly, 'Cause Lord knows I'm to blame. But, if I stayed here with you girl, Things just couldn't be the same. Cause I'm as free as a bird now, And this bird you'll never change. And this bird you can not change. Lord knows, I can't change. Lord help me, I can't change. Lynyrd Skynyrd

  22. Getting ready to change both tire on the bike .Everybody here seems to go for Avon's tire (Venom) and putting a smaller size on the front wheel .What am I to do my mechanic here says that he had problems whit AVON tires and I don't want to put Bridgestone's on the bike again these are tough but they run hard and have no comfort . So what is the front size recommended .
  23. Bought some ebay items to unfry my bike...hoping not to refry it. Clock and computer are dim with no red warning light. I have 12.59 volts at the battery and at the connectors for the clock and computer. The intensity does not change when the bike is started. I did not change out the ignition switch from the fire as it was black with soot, but seemed to function. I did not check resistance across the switch. I did not open up LCD to check any connector there because the clock was dim too. Where to go next? I did scrub the ground wire off the battery to the best of my abilities...same for the red connector. Thanks in advance, Tim
  24. OK, 3000 miles ago I switch to the Mobil 1 full synthetic motor oil. With that said: do i just change the filter and go another 3k or change out the oil and the filter? any takers?
  25. :detective:Well took the old gal in for her 8K service, and decided to replace the OEM tires, back one was getting that flat look and the tread was almost down to the wear indicators. It was like a last minute thought while i was there, and had to take what they had if i wanted to ride, this past weekend. Well i got the M880and will se for my self what happens. Anyway, i get home and park the bike, the 40 mile ride was really great bike handled a whol lot better. We after an Earlie morning No A/C service call I go around back to clean baby up for a ride and just happened to look at the front tire, to see what date code was on it, no biggie 2107 pretty new there, so im happy, then i take notice of a rotation arrow on the Rim, its pointing up, and the tire rotation is pointing down.... wheels turning in my head, like ok what isnt right here.... well the rim was put back on backwards... Needless to say i came unglued, and called the dealers service dept. . Now my feeling is Yamaha didnt go through the casting trouble for nothing, so it should be installed the right way with the arrow going in the forward direction of the bike. ... I was told it was ok, and that it was on there for speedo reasons, because that rim is used on other bikes. and that it was ok to ride like that. He couldnt change it because no mechanic was there to do that til tuesday. I was still leary and said there goes my weekend, or something like that, He then said hold on a second and it was like seconds and he was talking to some one, and when he came back he told me to bring the bike right up and they would change it. Now is there any concern with the rim? while in the show room i did go check out another Royal star, it was the Tour delux and the rim marking was in the right direction. Any thoughts.......
