  1. What time is breakfast on sat? Need to know how early to leave to make it there in time. I'm hungry already, menu sounds awesome, and if help is needed, count me in!
  2. Very nice pictures......the bike in those pictures does not look like any 83 I have ever seen!!!! Might have to update your description in the header? Kidding aside,.....glad the trip went well, I'm jealous!!!
  3. I drove a Chevy Volt to Chicago from Mpls this past week, very nice driving vehicle. If you want to save money on gas and put it in the bike instead, try the volt! I was very impressed with the ride and handling, averaged 44-50 mpg at 70-75 mph. Drove it all weekend, around 250 miles, before I left for Chicago, only used 1.1 gallons of gas.
  4. That is a nice looking rig, I second the question of...Who makes that sidecar?
  5. Very nice house, now how about pics of the MAN CAVE, i.e. garage? Possibly, still a work in progress?
  6. Miles, obviously money is no object and thats great. I think its awesome that your trying to improve the bikes handling beyond the manufacture. I wish I had the funds to do that stuff, but I don't. I think everyone needs to remember that this site is about helping, improving, ideas, friendship, etc, not knocking down someones idea. I hope you keep us posted!
  7. Try swapping the plug wire from the dead cyl to one that does have spark. If there is still no spark on the same cyl, try swapping spark plugs, if the same cyl still does not have spark, it is either a bad coil, tci, or wiring issue.
  8. If that spark plug is clean, (not wet or black or white, just looks like new) then that cylinder is not getting gas. You will need to remove the carbs and take them apart and clean them. Or, buy the carbs that are for sale, that someone else mentioned. If you have never cleaned carbs before, I recommend to have someone do it for you, or at least have someone help you do it. Also, if the gas in the tank has sat in the bike as long as the bike has been sitting, you are going to want to get that gas out and add fresh gas. If the gas has a turpen tine smell, it is no good and will only cause you more headaches, even after your carb problem is fixed. Good luck and welcome to the site.
  9. As for me, I like it quiet and stealthy. If I want to hear it, I just twist the fun wheel a little more.
  10. Just curious why you would want to disable the YICS? Is it a fuel mileage issue or do they actually run better? I have mine still hooked up, bike runs great, gas mileage around 40, idles good, can't complain a bit.
  11. I did see yours, it looks different than mine though. I will post pictures of mine tonight. I may still be interested in yours if you still have it.
  12. Great ideas, thanks...I'll try that first. It turns out after talking to the previous owner, the trunk came off the bike while it was being trailered. It tumbled on the road, missed a car by inches, and went into the ditch. Before that, there was not a scratch on it, so now I'm thinking maybe a hinge got tweeked or the frame around the openings.
  13. I am at work... I'll post pictures tonight.
  14. I may try the oven idea...as a last resort. It is still functional so I'm trying not to make it worse.
  15. The trunk on my 83 VR has not closed great since I bought it. It looks like the p.o. let it tumble off the bike while driving. The gaps on the top and bottom halves, don't match up when you close the lid. Has anyone tried to tweek the cases on these bikes? I have tried but I am a little scared of breaking them.
  16. Well, as for me?............Lets see.........20 grand or more for a big vibrator on 2 wheels,...... or $1500 plus some other maintenance goodys just to keep my 83 venture in tip top shape. NO CONTEST. I'll keep my smooth running, fire breathing V4, race machine!!!!!
  17. What year bike? I'd check battery connections for tightness, the chassis grounds for cleanlyness and tightness. If nothing turns up with battery and cable connections, then check fuse block area for connection issues and then look at the ignition switch. These are all good places to start, if you still do not find anything, start the engine and then start wiggling wires to see if you can duplicate the concern.
  18. NAW,....that would not be it. IT WOULD RUN FASTER THAN EVER IF YOU DID THAT!!! LOL GLAD TO HEAR IT WAS NOTHING SERIOUS.
  19. I don't know what breaks with heel/toe shifters, but it sounds like a bent shift fork or a bad spot on the roller drum. Have your brother fix it, or at least help you fix it, this time. Maybe then after he sees how much work it is, he will be easier on the shifter.
  20. Yea, chance of flurries next week. Thats ok, my bike runs and I have skis for it!
  21. Thanks for all the advice. I will let my friend know to check this stuff. Won't happen soon as he works nights, I work days, so I don't know when I will see the bike again.
  22. I, also, am wondering what you might want for the hitch?
